A hidden gem! It's not so often you find bakeries that do gluten-free, so I was so excited to hear about this bakery being gluten free. I have two coworkers who struggle finding places that offer gluten free options so they were ecstatic to hear about this place. I got the chocolate fudge cupcake because I love all things chocolate and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! My coworkers also enjoyed it and loved their gluten-free cupcakes. It's so convenient because I am in the process of planning my wedding and am still looking for a cake! The employee was so nice and patient with us! If I could give less than one star, I would. Let me start this way... My fiancé and I went to That's The Cake Bakery because several bakeries said they could not do the cake the way we wanted it for our wedding and had a picture to show what we wanted. Nancy was so reassuring to both of us what she could make the wood look real and the bark to be as the picture we had provided. We pay the deposit and shortly after that, paid the final for a total of $575. We made one change and that was we would provide the flowers and place them at the chapel the day of the wedding. Day of the wedding comes....neither I nor my bride seen the cake till after the ceremony. I was never contacted as specified when the cake was delivered for inspection. When my wife and I seen the cake after being announced, I was livid. The cake looked nothing like the picture we had provided and hoped for. My bride shot an email off to the bakery and finally called yesterday (04/06/17) and was told by Nancy that "she wouldn't reimburse anything because the cake looked exactly like the picture, everybody loved it and we can do what we felt necessary as she was right and we were wrong." I have our top layer of cake and if you wanna see this disaster, I will be happy to show it. I also have pictures from the day of the wedding. Ridiculous. Horrible. Liars. read more

I ordered a two-tier cake for my mother-in law's 100 Birthday Day six weeks prior to picking it up. I even called 72 hours before to confirm everything to be on the safe side. When I arrived it was the wrong color -- WHITE. It looked like a wedding cake -- not what I had ordered. It broke my heart. One of the owners (male), told me he would call me when they opened again in 48 hours to discuss and resolve the issue. He NEVER did. I have emailed the store twice and called twice. Nothing. No one's perfect and we all make mistakes, but not living up to your word and not replying to emails and calls is just rude and bad business. I've had the absolute worst experience I've ever had with a local owned business with this company with over a month and advance we gave very clear pictures and instructions on how we wanted our cake done for my daughter's first birthday. It's a doughnut themed birthday and we sent them pictures on how we wanted the cakes to look we also told them that our one-year-old daughter has eating issues and she will not be able to eat sprinkles or chew through fondant we asked for regular butter cream icing so she could eat it when we received the cake the full thing was covered in fondant and it had sprinkles on it. That was just for the smash cake. For the cake for the adults all of the donuts that was meant to be on the cake look absolutely horrific and we found one of them with a hair in the icing. We brought it home and called the company and tried to figure out some kind of a deal but the only thing the owner had to offer was to tell us that the very obvious hair that was in our cake was just a bristle from one of the brushes and told us that she would drive out to our home with her personal tweezers to remove the hair during COVID-19. They also told us that we can come into the store and bring the cakes back so that they can fix them but the only thing that we really wanted to do was get a refund she was absolutely rude and disrespectful when she told us they can only do Store credit which we refused because we did not want to ever come back to this company when we asked for a regular refund she told us they would absolutely not do that and while we continue to try to speak to them she hung up so now we are stuck with horrific looking cakes on our daughters very first birthday and we're down over $200. Also we sent them very clear pictures of what we wanted and when we receive the cakes and you can see in the pictures that I have provided that the product that they gave us looks nothing like the pictures that we sent them. And we fully understand not wanting to 100% copy somebody else's work we have no problem with that but the product that we received looks like it was made by a complete amateur not a professional baker who owns their own company. When we brought this up on our phone call to them and they told us that the product and the pictures look exactly the same but you be the judge. PLEASE do not use this company they are horrifically rude and they produce a terrible product. read more

Love this place! Besides the cake being absolutely delicious and the owner/baker being an an absolute delight she made the exact cake we had pictured in our head. She did the cake for my daughters baby shower and we wanted it to match the invitations and she couldn't have done a better job right down to the right colors. We had called a couple of other places before we found her and didn't get anywhere close to the curtesy or pleasantness that we got from her. Even on the phone she was wonderful and I want to say again the cake was not only beautiful but amazingly delicious as well. And I'm sure it was no easy task because this was a three tier, three different flavors...red velvet on top, lemon in the middle and chocolate for the bottom tier and all with butter cream icing! My initial dealings with Nancy at That's the Cake were so promising, I'm honestly sad to give it a 2 star rating. My parents visited this weekend from Georgia and I wanted to do something that would give us the wedding planning experience together and decided that a cake tasting with them, my fiance and me would be perfect. My mom is gluten free, so I did a lot of research to find a bakery that could accommodate that and settled on That's The Cake, even though it's a 30 minute drive from where I live in downtown Dallas. Unfortunately life got crazy, I got sick and had to have unexpected surgery, so there was a couple of weeks between when I first reached out to them to talk about an appointment and when I was able to make it. By that point all their Sunday appointments were filled and they don't do appointments on Saturday, since it's so busy (not unusual for a bakery.) However, I was very grateful and relieved when Nancy said that she'd see us after their store was closed. Except that it didn't happen. The 4 of us loaded into the car, drove 30 minutes each way in the rain...to find an empty store. I called and got voicemail. I emailed. We waited 30 minutes and then Nancy's son responded to the email that she had gone home sick and didn't tell him of the appointment. I understand that unexpected things come up. I'm thankful that her son was checking messages and responded (though we were about ready to leave.) However, I'm crushed that this experience that I was so looking forward to will now never happen, since this will be the only time my parents visit Texas before the wedding. He apologized and seemed to feel bad about it and said his mother would reach out to me on Monday, but honestly, there's no way that I can use them for the wedding. What if she gets sick then? I can't have her just forget to do my cake. I need to be able to trust my vendors and that trust has been completely ruined. I do appreciate them working with me to try to find a time with my schedule and that's why this is 2 stars and not 1 star. However, small businesses need to do a better job of having back-ups for when emergencies and unexpected events arise, especially when their business caters to once in a lifetime events. read more
