I asked for charcoal gray, and got green

I am incredibly disappointed with my experience at That's The Cake. I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years, and throughout that time I have recommended this bakery to countless family members, friends, and coworkers because I genuinely believed they made beautiful cakes and valued their customers. Unfortunately, after today's experience, I can no longer recommend them. I picked up my father's birthday cake today, and it looked nothing like what I ordered. The cake was noticeably smaller than the cake shown in the advertised photo, especially considering I paid approximately $120. Even more disappointing, the color was completely wrong. The cake I received was a dull greenish-gray, while the cake in the advertised photo appeared to be a beautiful charcoal gray. When I questioned the color, I was told the photo was actually black, but that simply was not how it appeared in the advertisement. I ordered based on what was shown, and what I received was nothing close to that. The cashier was kind and showed genuine empathy for my concerns. She listened and tried to help, which I appreciated. However, once the owner came out, the entire experience went downhill. His attitude was dismissive and uncaring. Rather than listening to a customer who has supported this business for well over a decade, his response was essentially, "Oh well, there's nothing we can do." There was no apology, no attempt to make things right, no offer of a partial refund, store credit, discount on a future order, or any gesture whatsoever to show that my business mattered. My sister later contacted them by phone to let them know how dissatisfied we were with the cake, and the owner told her that he had offered to re-pipe the cake before I left, but that I chose not to do it, which is a complete and utter lie. What hurt the most wasn't even the cake itself--it was how I was treated. Customer service matters just as much as the product. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. What separates a great business from a poor one is how those mistakes are handled. I wasn't expecting perfection; I was expecting compassion, accountability, and a willingness to find a solution. Instead, I was made to feel like my concerns were an inconvenience. Because I live across town and needed the cake for my father's celebration, I didn't have the time to leave and find another bakery or wait for a replacement. I was essentially forced to take a cake that I was unhappy with because I had no other option. After more than 15 years of loyalty, I expected to be treated like a valued customer. Instead, I left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and honestly hurt. The kindness shown by the cashier was completely overshadowed by the owner's lack of empathy and unwillingness to stand behind his product. Sadly, this experience has permanently changed my opinion of That's The Cake. I can no longer recommend this bakery to anyone. If a business is unwilling to show even the smallest amount of care or appreciation for a loyal customer when something goes wrong, then it says a lot about how they value the people who support them. I sincerely hope the owners take customer service more seriously because no one should leave feeling the way I did today.

Our hearts were so full of anticipation as we ordered our gender reveal cake from this bakery. It was supposed to be a beautiful, emotional milestone for our growing family. Instead, when we sliced into it, there was nothing -- just plain white cake with no color to reveal the gender. That special moment we'll never get back was ruined, and the sadness it caused our loved ones still lingers. They kindly offered a refund, but money can't mend the broken trust or bring back the joy we lost. I hope this review helps spare other families from the same heartache on their unforgettable day

I have ordered 2 large cakes and cupcakes from That's the Cake Bakery and would recommend them to everyone. The quality and craftsmanship is superb. The cakes tasted good and looked great. Everyone at both parties I hosted raved about the cake. One cake was happy birthday funfetti with cream cheese frosting and another was white/vanilla with lemon filling and cream cheese frosting. I cannot wait to try more flavors. Definitely go get your cakes and sweet treats from this great little bakery.

I was very impressed with the cake Monte made for my 70th birthday party. He is extremely artistic, and pleasant to work with. My cake was not only beautiful, but moist and delicious. I will definitely be ordering from this bakery in the future.

To start, the cake tasted amazing! We got a red velvet cake for my daughter's 21st birthday. My only complaint is they didn't do what we discussed. I sent in a pic for a quote but over the phone I requested all black icing and glitter. He said I had to pay an extra $5 for glitter and I said that was fine. We get the cake and it's trimmed with pink, hearts added and sprinkles instead of glitter. Overall, I would still order from them again but ask them to read back my requests.

I really wanted to love this bakery but the cakes were a bit too dense in my opinion. The frosting on the cupcakes was also not very tasty. I will say that the owner was delightful. And the displays inside the bakery show that she does amazing decorative cakes for weddings, parties, and events. The displays are beautiful!!!!! But the individual cupcakes were just okay.

We got a snickerdoodle cake for my son's birthday. The icing and cake were very good, and they had it ready on time and just the way we ordered it. Everyone was really nice from the point of ordering to when we picked it up. We would recommend this bakery!

We used That's The Cake for our wedding and could not be happier with how it all turned out. They are a grandmother/grandson duo who own their adorable little shop in Arlington. I had let the initial quote expire because wedding planning is not my strong suit and Nancy was so great helping me get it sorted out. We set up a tasting which is held in the shop with Monte. He walked us through each flavor and helped guide us though the process. It was so much fun, like treat tasting with an old friend. He works really hard making cakes all day and we appreciated him taking his time personally to do a tasting. Some shops just send you samples and call it a day. We chatted about horror movies and sweet treats and it was great. We ended up choosing Monte's favorite which was an almond cake with a raspberry filling and it was a huge hit. Some of my guests who I would consider desert connoisseur's were particularly impressed. Side note: I really liked the Mexican Chocolate and Caramel cake as well but the final choice was left up to my groom. When discussing the look of the cake we let Monte know we were having a moody wedding and the florist would provide flowers. He suggested some black marbling along the bottom to glam it up and it turned out perfect. Unfortunately I was not on site for delivery so I couldn't tell him in person how amazing it was but I was truly blown away with how it turned out. If you're looking for a beautiful cake from a family owned small local business- hit up Monte and Nancy!

I got the spongebob "you know what's funnier than 24? 25" cake and it was amazing. Not only did it look good it tasted amazing! I got the wedding cake flavor with cookies and cream butter cream and it was the best combination I've ever had. It look exactly how it was depicted and I got a lot of compliments on it. I will say the icing was very sweet but the cake itself was delicious! I will definitely be back for any other specialized cakes I need in the future.

We stopped by to say Hidy to Monte and pick up some of those yummy Cupcakes ! 'Till next time, Monte.

Ordered online for the birthday flavored cake with buttercream frosting. I chose purple for the details and lavender for the cake color. Cake came out beautifully and everyone enjoyed it very much. My only qualm is their clunky old fashioned website. Its a little annoying to use. Also, "birthday cake" and "wedding cake" are vague descriptions for cake flavors and I'm sad I didn't see an option to add a filling. Still worked out really well and if it wasn't so far for me, I might return in the future.

This cute little cake shop has been here around 7 years and I never knew about it! It's definitely hidden on a side street off the highway. It's owned by a grandma and her grandson. I got to meet both and they are super nice and helpful. The cakes are beautiful and prices are affordable. They can get as creative as you need. They have many cakes on display, but are open to doing whatever deign you can think up! I sampled some of their baked goods. The key to their pre-made goodies is to get there early! They seem to sell out fast! Lots of cake balls, all the chocolate chip cookies, and some of the cake by the slice were gone! So get there when they open or shortly after. I tried there valentine sugar cookies and a chocolate fudge cupcake. Their sugar cookies are clearly made with lots of butter, they were soft, thick, very sweet, and had valentine sprinkles throughout. I liked the light crunch the sprinkles gave to the cookies. I have tired their chocolate chip cookies and I actually liked the sugar ones better. I was surprised by this, bc chocolate chip is my absolute favorite. The chocolate fudge cupcake was really pretty. It had lots of frosting, drizzled in chocolate, and sprinkles on top. The frosting made cupcake a little top heavy! You will love these if you love frosting, buttercream to be exact. The cake was nice, light, and moist. I have also tried their cake balls before and I LOVE them! They are so good. The chocolate one is the best! If you live in the area, come try out this hidden family owned bakery!

Young, high-energy staff and everybody was friendly. I had an adorable little waitress who was possibly high as a kite. But flower high, not the bad stuff. Honestly, it worked in everybody's favor. She was upbeat, extremely polite, and got my order right. I'm happy. The menu is one of those long double-sided laminated things with probably 50+ breakfast choices. Everybody should be able to find something. Prices looked to range around $10-17 per entrée, and the portions were solid. They also had a bunch of turkey and chicken sausage options for non-pork eaters like myself. I ordered the chicken fried steak with hash browns, scrambled cheese eggs with onions mixed into the eggs and hash browns, plus two pancakes. Around $15. Pardon the food pics. I forgot to take them until I had already loaded everything up with every sauce known to man: ketchup, hot sauce, gravy, syrup... probably a few others. I definitely recommend this place. A gem.

Cody was our server and he was courteous and lively, and overall we really liked the cozy vibe inside. Plenty of space inside for large groups and can be intimate enough for date night too. We ordered the spicy calamari, a Caesar salad, and a pasta sampler to share. First, the complimentary garlic rolls came out, and they might have been my favorite part of the meal. Incredibly buttery, soft, and flavorful. The calamari had a nice batter and savoriness but my girlfriend noted that the green onion garnish tasted off and seem spoiled. We let Cody know and he hopefully relayed that to the chef to let them know. The Caesar salad was pretty typical but enjoyable nonetheless. We got the pasta sampler and the first thing I noticed was that the sauce tasted pretty one dimensional and a bit too sweet for my liking. I'm no Italian food expert but I found it to be at the same level as canned sauces. The cheese fillings and pasta themselves were pretty good and there no complaints there. The meatball also suffered from being a bit bland and had the same problem with the sauce. Maybe it was just an off day, and I do understand they are a family business. Hoping that if I try dining here again I'll have a much better experience than this one.

I've never had mazapan, but I liked the sweetness of the peanuts and powder sugar in the drink. The matcha had grassy notes, which I liked. It tasted like a sweet fresh peanut milk drink but not necessarily like peanut butter milk. You can get a regular or large sized drink. Dulce de leche concha was pretty and tasty. It seemed more milk bread-like since it was soft and fluffy. It reminded me of melon pan because the crust was soft and crumbly. There's a small amount of dulce de leche in the middle, which is okay since the top is very sweet and the dulce de leche is rich. Shio pan with cream cheese and everything bagel: similar to a Chinese baked bread (cut almost all the way) filled with whipped cream cheese. The bottom has a slight crust but not hard like a Korean salt bread, and it's topped with everything bagel seasoning (not too salty). Dubai choco strawberry cookie: moist and almost fudgy because of chocolate chunks, topped with fresh strawberry slices. There's a small center of pistachio cream but the usual crispy noodles were already broken and mixed in, so it's less satisfying to me. The chocolate cookie part was like a rich brownie. It stayed soft even refrigerated. The marranito (pig-shaped sweet cookie) was thick and broke like a soft cookie. It's like a gingerbread cookie with less spices. Even refrigerated, the cookie was pretty soft. I'm usually not too fond of this type of flavor, but I liked this version. Ham and cheese bun: fluffy baked Asian bread with thin slice of ham and cheese. Bacon egg and cheese milk bread resembles a thick Chinese bread bun with a bacon-wrapped thick tamagoyaki inside. The egg part looked like it was overcooked. Coffee bun is a soft and high plain bun covered with a thick layer of slightly bitter coffee powder. The bread items started getting drier after getting cut and refrigerated but softened once they were microwaved. There are clean trays and tongs for the baked goods. The line moves along the edges. The bakery had (2) baskets of large umbrellas since it was a long and slow line and blazing hot. The outside line takes up most of the small parking lot. There is some street parking along the 2-way road. I think the bakery was busier than normal due to it being the day after a BTS concert and social media. It took about 50 minutes to get inside, 20 minutes to get through the line, then 15 minutes to receive drinks. There are a few tables along the right side of the inside bakery and a few small tables outside. Even though it was very busy, the staff projected a friendly and competent image. There're clay heart-shaped plates to eat on and plastic forks for splitting pastries. The graphics on the murals, merch (shirts and aprons), big boxes, and cups were cute. The image on the plastic cups are easily scratched off.
