Stopped in for breakfast. I had the savory biscuits and gravy with chicken sausage and scrambled eggs. My wife ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes. Honestly, and I don't say this lightly, but it was all so delicious! The best biscuits and gravy and pancakes we've ever had! The service was friendly and attentive. Everyone was polite and took good care of us. Since it was our first time, our waitress did a good job helping us decide what to get. The restaurant is comfortable, clean, and in good order. Picky Pete here! Got the backyard burger with garlic fries. Listen if I could give 6 stars I would. I'm pretty sure the burger patty was hand made. Not a frozen patty. Very juicy and flavorful. My brother got the quinoa salad here, and said it was better than the last place we stopped. They also had a tomato rice soup, and a clam chowder. Both were amazing. The service? Impeccable! I stopped in on a rainy day a little before opening (which is 8am) and was welcomed in. The interior is bright and clean, with various pastries and desserts on display (the pastry shop down on S. Main owns this restaurant). The menu is quite expansive (which always has me worried), and I tried the Avocado Toast. As a millennial, we love and are very passionate our avocado toast . Unfortunately, they put way too much into this. The sprouts, cheese and nuts were overpowering, and caused the toasted bread to become soggy. Did not like. The iced tea was great. Popped into this place on a busy Sunday morning a week after they opened official to the public. I met a few friends from the neighborhood that invited me to join them. Service was a bit off but they have only been open for a week. So it is not a big deal. They will work out those issues in the coming weeks. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs and hash browns. The chicken fried steak was tender though could have used a side more of gravy. The has browns were crispy and very good and the over medium eggs were just tight as requested. The meals came out within a reasonable about of time as well. I also got to try the Lemon Ricotta pancakes and I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. The inside of the restaurant is spacious, clean and bright. They did a wonderful job on the remodel. There is even counter seating. The minute you walk in, you're greeted by staff who are pleasant, in clean uniforms and ready to seat you. The restaurant has been completely remodeled and is beautiful. Music playing on a low level in the background. Our orders were taken right away and within 15 minutes our food was delivered to our table. The huevos rancheros were very good. Lots of flavor. The chicken fried steak was made with a brown gravy as opposed to a white gravy, good but lacking a little flavor. No toast or biscuits offered with meal. Hash browns needed to to be crisper. Best of all, this is a second place to experience Emma's Bakery, all the baked goods you could imagine. My only wish would've been, in the morning, when the restaurant just opens I wish they'd space customers out a little as opposed to back to back. read more

My wife and I are very picky about restaurants nowadays because the quality seems low and the price is high BUT NOT HERE! This was one of the BEST breakfast I've had in a long time and my wife agreed! The chicken sausage omelette was phenomenal, the hashbrowns were not oily, nice and crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked in the middle, the bread was thick and fantastic. Her veggie omelette was full of vegetables and spinach. The strawberry mimosas were very good and our little girls banana split croissant was to-die-for! They not only have a fantastic menu of breakfast lunch and dinner, but they have delicious looking pies, cheesecakes, and a humongous handmade pastry section! Eggs benedict luke warm at best and the hollandaise seemed like it had been sitting as it had a very dull look.Both the last two visits we had the same server and maybe he let the food sit too long before bringing it out. Every meal has been delicious. The Backyard Burger was the most delicious burger I have had in recent memory.

The service was okay. They definitely need more training. I was not fond of having to get up after eating to go and look at what deserts they had to offer. I do like how it changes daily but the servers should know what is there to offer. My husband ordered the Hey Ma Meatloaf. He said the Meatloaf from Loves taste better than what they had. I orders the Cali Cubano it was Okay just soggy. The dessert were mediocre we didn't even finish our cheesecake. Got our Bill which was $74.00 for food that had no imagination and was just okay. I don't mind paying a large bill for a dinner for two. I just expect the food to taste what my money is worth. I enjoy food and enjoy trying new things. This place I will not try again. read more

I love 31st Grill! I was excited for them to open since their food at Emma's Bakery was amazing. 31st Grill did not disappoint. I've been 3 times. The first time was on a much needed no kids date with my wife. She got the Chicken Caprese and I got the 1850 Burger. Both were amazing and the garlic fries were delicious. The second time I went I got the Salinas Valley Bowl, I had them add black beans to it. I'm not a vegetarian and usually want the plate with the most meat, but I devoured that bowl it was so delicious. They don't skimp on the portions of the bowls, best bang for your buck. My wife got the Farmstead Eggs plate and she and my kids loved it. This last time we went, was also amazing! I got the meatloaf and oh my goodness it has to be the best thing on their menu. The mashed potatoes, DELICIOUS! The meat loaf cooked to perfection and wrapped in bacon, YUM! The mushroom burgundy gravy was the best part of it all! I couldn't get enough of it. For kids they have an extensive menu, including butter noodles which is my kids favorite. They gobbled it up. The service is always amazing! The ambiance is relaxing. The food always top notch. Cute clean little place right past Old Salinas. Brightly lit and the friendliest people I ever seen in some time! We tried the crepes with bacon and eggs, side of sourdough, and the parm calamari. Crepes were nice, not too sweet, filled with cottage cheese topped with strawberries, powdered sugar, and a walnut butter. Delicate and tasty! Bacon was cooked perfect, great sweet smoky flavor. Sourdough was actually grilled and thick and yummy! Calamari was big and tasty, good parm flavor I didn't even need to dip into cocktail or tartar! Side note: we were house hunting in the area and the server told us how nice Salinas was and some great places to check out. read more

I've been twice now and the jury is still out. Juan was our server and he was outstanding. Attentive, but not in our face. He kept our iced tea glasses full! The ambiance and decor are wonderful. Even packed, it's not too loud for conversation. It's so hip with the mod light shades and colorful upholstery. The food is made of quality ingredients but there are some issues with service as well as flavors. It's a very nice diner style menu with lots of old school, Mexican, and neo-hip dishes. The problem is that I've yet to have anything that was supposed to be hot come out of the kitchen hot. The next problem is that salad dressings seem to be from the Sysco Food Truck rather than made in house. The beet salad is gorgeous but the raspberry vinaigrette was too thick and too sweet. She opted for the Italian vinaigrette that, again, was too thick and not house made. My friend had the Asian Chopped Chicken Salad. She received two 1/4 C pots of dressing that was too thick to pour out of the containers. Also, the grilled chicken that was sliced and placed on top was dryer than dust. There was no way that neither the Beet Salad nor the Asian Salad could have been adequately dressed with the pots of dressing on the plate. In fact, I believe all salads should be chef dressed in the kitchen unless otherwise instructed by the customer. But first and foremost, upgrade the dressings, please! The first time I was here, I had a patty melt and upgraded to onion rings. I'm pretty sure the onion rings were not house made but they were crispy without depositing hot snail slime on your lip when you bit into it! The patty melt was crisp, juicy, oniony, and delicious. The second time, I had the pastrami sandwich which was, in fact, a Rueben. It was delicious! We finished up our lunch with pie. My friend had the chocolate cream pie. I had the cherry pie. The crust of both pies were so short and flaky! Delicious! We took home almond croissants to have the next morning. I was expecting a croissant with almonds folded in, but what I got was not a flaky croissant with almonds. Instead, it was a delightful pastry with some marzipan inside and sliced almonds on the outside. It was delicious, but it wasn't a croissant. I like this place but there are some issues. I'll still go back because it's a lovely place with great service and pretty good food. read more
