They are always kind to our kids and the donuts are a great variety with something for everyone. My daughter is moving out of state, and for our last mother/daughter morning we wanted to have donuts and coffee for old times sake. Lamar's is the only donut I actually enjoy eating so I picked up her request and a couple of extras for kicks and giggles. She loves the chocolate raised and my favorite is the cinnamon crumb. It literally melts in my mouth with enough cinnamon to not feel like you are eating a sugar donut. I've never had their fritters and wanted to try the blueberry fritter because the only place I've enjoyed those is Sweetwater, TX! Unfortunately I was given apple and not blueberry so I didn't try that one but my family said it was delicious. Finally, I chose a Bavarian Crème Lamar's Bar and it was light, the crème so creamy and the chocolate in top a perfect pairing to the crème. I worked as a nanny about 5 minutes from Lamar's donuts for 2 years. The kids I was nannying were 4 and 2 at the time and Lamar's was a frequent stop for us. Their family loved Lamar's and sometimes when the morning wasn't going so great, we'd have a little outing to Lamar's to brighten everyone's day a bit. Haha! My favorite was always the apple fritter and Boston cream, while the kids loved the sprinkle donuts and strawberry milk. Back in September the kids mother died unexpectedly. I have since moved to Pennsylvania, but when I heard the news, I wasn't sure how to support the family from so far away. I decided to have Lamar's delivered to them. I didn't tell them I was having donuts delivered so they may not know they were from me, but the most important thing is that those kids (now 7 and 5) had some donuts to enjoy at such a challenging time. When I bring donuts into work, I splurge and bring them Lamar's. When the shop isn't too busy, I have had special flavors filled and frosted for me which won me over. I have so many favorites here and the seasonal flavors are always a hit at work. I am particularly fond of the chocolate covered raspberry filled donuts which aren't in the case regularly but Lamar's is happy to make if you have a few extra minutes. Other favorites are the glazed mixed twist, maple bars, cherry cake donuts, cherry bear claw, and anything chocolate. The blueberry cake donuts are also delicious. Pricier than some other smaller shops, but the donuts are as big as plates and are super fresh. For traditional donuts, there is no better place than Lamars in my book. My old review may be a decade old but until the pandemic and then the Marshall Fire, I had been a steady customer. Maybe way too steady for my waistline, but steady nonetheless. They make the best, traditional donuts anywhere in the area. The staff is always helpful and friendly. There is nice seating if you want to stay. Most donuts go out the door and there are piles of boxes on a table for outgoing large orders, presumably for workplaces. I'm sure many of you work in places where such order are delivered, by a staff member or a delivery service. They will also do custom orders of different styles, not always on display, such as powdered sugar covering on flavors that are often made for the masses as glaze or chocolate frosted. As I said in my original review , there are still many people who prefer that. Today, my husband had his Bavarian Cream custom done as they often have shells available in the back to do that. But not always. They do need to keep their shelves full for those ready to view, buy, pay and run out the door and on their way. They do have drinks available, to go, as well as to stay. And if you don't see a drink you want, they will give you water in a nice clean cup, with or without ice. My husband had a dark roast coffee as they do have choices and he though it quite good. I had water and it was very fresh tasting. I also had a powdered donut, raspberry jelly filled and luckily mine was ready to go. A few flavors were also powdered so it must be catching back on. Stopping here will be more regular for us now that we see they are still up and running well. The burned area nearby is being rebuilt so all these workmen are probably in need of donuts for snacks on the way to the jobs. Alrighty so I'll make this quick. If your on a diet do not enter!!! I was very happy to see a Lamars on this side of town. Unfortunately we live in Brighton and there are no donut places in that town and grocery stores dont count. So I was working in Louisville and stopped in to treat the family to some delicious not so good caloric morsels of heaven. It's not to easy to access from McCaslin but it is visible from McCaslin blvd. Okay... let me just say... who doesn't love a good donut!? Boyfriend and I decided that we were craving some sugar after lunch, and remembered that LaMar's was super close by. I think we stopped in around 1:30pm or so on a Sunday. Knowing that it was so late in the day, we weren't really assuming that the shop would be super busy, and we were totally right - which, by the way, was completely fine! We may be some of the only oddballs that go on the hunt for donuts right after a meal, so do keep that in mind lol. The storefront is easily visible off McCaslin, but having never been to this location, getting into their lot was ever so slightly labyrinth-like. It very well could have been the direction we tried to enter their lot, but I digress. Parking is super ample, as their are a number of restaurants and businesses in the area to sustain a large number of cars and people. The area in general, though, is super chill and quiet. But my impressions of Louisville are always just that, so maybe I'm biased. Walking in, I noticed right off the bat that the shop was very clean and tidy; I totally got the vibe that the folks that run this place (not sure if they're owners?) take pride in the way the business is presented. The gentleman that greeted us was very kind and helpful, and gave me the impression that, even if the shop was packed full of customers, he'd be happy and helpful to every single one. We decided on a chocolate raised donut and a maple raised donut (my fav!!), paired with a chocolate milk for my fella, and a bottle of water for yours truly. After all was said and done, our total came out to be $6 and change - totally reasonable considering bottled beverages are always way overpriced in general. The dining area was super empty and quiet; I think there was a party of three teenagers that came in after we did, but we were the only ones who actually took a seat to enjoy our treats in the shop. Despite the donuts being made way earlier in the day (only speculating, but I'm assuming they're baked up before the sun even wakes up lol), they were still super light and fluffy, and didn't taste stale at all! I'm super picky when it comes to pastries and baked goods; a total snob, if I'm being honest, but these were awesome. My donut was a bit too much for me to handle (even though it was super yummy), but I lucked out and had a good partner that helped me out a lot. I know I'll never be tired of donuts... and I know that this is a place that I would most definitely visit again... so I don't really have any complaints! Today we got the pink coconut, the m&m donut and the peanut maple. We got there 15 minutes before closing so pickings were slim. The donuts were good. The customer service was mediocre. The attendant could have been friendlier and we noticed that she boxed two full dozens on the side before we ordered ours. The store was empty so it looked as if she boxed those for herself before we ordered. Moving from Kansas City, where LaMar's started 50+ years ago, I was pleasantly surprised to see a handful of locations in Colorado. So so good! I was missing donuts from a mom and pop shop back where we are originally from but this place is far better. The donuts are very moist, and there are so many different kinds we had trouble choosing which ones we wanted to try. We ended up getting 6 regular donuts and 6 of the filled/more expensive ones and we all just split them so we could try them all. They're a little pricey but honestly that's a good thing, otherwise I'd be stopping here every other day for their donuts. The place was also very clean so bonus points for that. Before trying this place out it'd been years since I'd had a donut. For shame, right? I think the last one I had was some sort of Krispy Kreme donut, but the cleanliness of the store (the one located near the Park Meadow's mall) left something to be desired, so I just hadn't had one in a bit. The first time I went here I got a lemon bizmark, a regular glazed, and something else I can't remember. Yumminess in my mouth! I'm a huge fan of lemon, and the bizmark was delicious. The second time I had some it was close to closing time, so my husband brought back what they had left. I think I had a vanilla glaze or something. It was definitely more dense than the regular donuts, but it was delicious. I've since had these donuts again and they were, again, wonderful. We've had to make a deal with ourselves to only visit this place once every two weeks, if that, because most donuts are usually more than 500 calories a pop and soooo unhealthy.
