My first time here and am so glad I came! Clean, well run, yummy cocktails and great beer assortment and the food was wonderful. From the moment I pulled up I could tell this was an inclusive environment with the multiple BLM posters in the window! As we walked in the staff clearly communicated where to order (the bar), how the menu works, and what area to sit in. We ordered Nachos and the Cubano as well as a cocktail and a beer. The server continued to check-in and see how things were going. The can selection was on point and prices appropriately marked so we were able to take some home. Very cute place! I enjoyed playing games with my partner while we were here. I just wish they had a better selection of games to play. As for the food, the Caesar was incredible! The dressing was really creamy & the croutons were baked to a perfect crunch. The pepperoni pizza dip was really tasty & definitely something I recommend trying. The "soft" pretzel was one of the worst pretzels I've ever had. It tasted like plastic & was nearly impossible to eat because of how hard it was. I would compare it to a dog toy. The first time we came to this place, it was about an hour before they closed & we figured the pretzel was this way because it was the end of the evening, so when we came back we decided to give it another try & nothing was improved. On the way to our fav winery we have seen this place several times and finally decided to try it. I made a reservation online as they do time slots per hour. We did one hour. Great outside seating with heaters. Inside had plenty of TVs so I could still catch a score to a game when I wanted. Order at the bar when ready. I like that. They bring water and menus to the table. Bar area is nice with plenty of alcohol options. Their beer menu is wonderful as well as mixed drinks and ciders. We ordered a cherry cider and a sweet peat. See my photo for the smoke infused wonder of the peat! Both were amazing. My one issue was a limited menu HOWEVER they do it to the 9's on their food so it's ok. Mac n cheese was perfectly cooked with a crunchy layer on top. So creamy. The pulled chicken nachos were flavorful. Love the bbq sauce and cilantro. Not sure the chicken was moist enough or flavored enough for me. The fondue with bread was pretty good. The cheese was. The bread could have been a bit more soft but I'd get it again. Very Good food in kind of a pub style atmosphere. No wine list and only 4-5 offerings by the glass. Go there for the beer. The service model is to line up in a slow line, then order and pay at the bar. Then they bring the food to the table. This is no more efficient than somebody waiting tables with a second employee behind the bar. Don't go expecting table service. Trivia with an exceptionally nerdy crowd popular on Tuesdays. Update! The food is awesome. This spot wasn't my favorite for snacks and it's a bar that is way into politics... But they have REALLY elevated the food... the menu, prep, presentation, portions, quality and taste... all top notch. Well executed with very little staff. The drinks are always on point and they have fun offerings nobody else has... like boozy soft serve. They are still a place that tries to make politics a big focus of the experience... which is lame... super exclusive. I happen to agree with all the owner's beliefs... but the attempts to discourage "centrists" and "conservatives" from enjoying themselves there... feels divisive and slightly combative. Just be neighbors not gatekeepers. I get it... Americans all want to divide up and only hang out with folks that agree with everything ... but that doesn't necessarily make for the best bar. Very cozy suburban bar! This is the second time I've been there and the service has been outstanding both times. For a small bar the drink and food list is pretty extensive. They also have a variety of board games to choose from. Our favorite thing we had was probably the pizza dip, the mix of the gooey cheese and slightly crunchy bread was top notch. My first time here was absolutely amazing because of Crystal. Each drink Crystal made was not only delicious but the perfect balance between strength and sweet! She even took the time to chat with us and truly get to know us. When we expressed to her that some people had gestured toward us and made us feel unsafe outside, she let us come in while she was closing up and made sure we were safe until our Uber got there. This is a fun place! Great beer and great ambiance with plenty to keep you occupied. There's a bunch of large tv's to watch sports, a rack of board games and a rack of books. We ordered a flight of beer, $15 for 5 5oz pours which was plenty of beer for us. The selection is small but I appreciate them offering samples to make sure we fill our flight with beers we can appreciate and enjoy. The food left something to be desired though. We got the Bavarian pretzel with cheese fondue and the chicken tacos. The pretzel tasted good enough but it was quite small compared to what we are used to getting at other breweries. The fondue was slightly gritty as well. The tacos were big but were a bit bland and dry. The avocado crema on top was tasty but because the taco was so large and the portion of chicken was so big, the chicken itself never touched the sauce. All in all, a great experience and we can't wait to come back to try more beer and watch football or play some games. Definitely worth the stop. read more

I've been there 3 times about to be 4 soon! It's my go-to spot for great bars in my local neighborhood. Perfect spot to bring friends or a date. They've got great drinks and a comforting atmosphere. I really loved how they decked the outside seating with lights. My favorite thing to get there is the smoke encasing, only for an extra $2! It remained me a lot of beauty and the beast and is magical. I'm also a big fan of the drug mule. Parking can be hit or miss sometimes because this place is poppin'. My husband and I came in on a Saturday afternoon, around 2pm. At first we were a little thrown off because we weren't expecting minors allowed, but that was on us. The 649 has a nice menu of appetizers and small plates, a decent beer list, but one that is not very diversified (heavy on IPA's, but to their credit they do rotate breweries) and a nice décor. The charcuterie is excellent, as is the BLT with Avocado. So is the beer cheese soup. What prevents me from being a regular is the service. While the staff is welcoming and are good bartenders, unfortunately, like so many establishments, they seemingly are always under-staffed or overwhelmed and so you have to wait in line to get a drink, order food and then stand in line again if you want to re-order and again if you check out. I'm patient, bit to a point. On one visit we waited in line over 15 minutes just to close out, which is not reasonable to ask of patrons. It is not uncommon to see 5 to 10 people standing in line at any given time and one or two bartenders busting their tales to keep up. If you want high-touch service of a wait staff to serve you the 649 was not founded to be that kind of establishment. It would be nice if there were a designated place at the bar that is exclusively set aside for ordering. While its assumed that takes place in front of the cash register, I've witnessed patrons step up to be served ahead of those standing in line. Simply stated, it's difficult on the bartenders working here and as a result service to patrons suffers as a result. Lastly, the 649 lacks an identity and I wish the owner would create an environment that is consistent. For example, the music choice of a bar may not be important to some visitors, but it happens to be something I pay attention to and enjoy. The music played here is unusual (read: bad). This probably stems from the staff being able to select their own music, which is good if its cool and not so cool if its an acquired taste and appeals to only a small clientele, which doesn't exactly make you want to stick around. Music is a very subjective thing, so perhaps playing a variety of genres or bands versus only sticking with one person's favorite band would improve the overall vibe. read more
