I recently had the chance to eat at The Abbey for the first time and I was very impressed. I was there with a group of friends so we ordered 2 appetizers to share, the fried pickles and the loaded chili nachos. Both appetizers were large portions, we even had some leftover. One of the things that I liked was that we did not feel rushed to eat our food and leave. They allowed us time to enjoy our appetizers before bringing the rest of our food. I ordered the Ribeye steak with fried green tomatoes and a salad. The steak was a perfect "medium" and was one of the best steaks I have had around London in a long time. The Abbey is a location on a small corner of Main street. Don't let that deter you, however, This location is prime for the food they serve. It's fresh, and solid American Cuisine. The decor is bare-bones, This location was a florist prior to becoming a different series of diners. That being said, it's slightly gaudy with the art work that clashes with what they are. We are in southeastern KY, Not England. So the decor of London England type items, while a play on our city name, not really my taste. The ceilings are open to the rafters, and a metal roof, that part I love. It's down home country feeling. Fits right in a city that is in the Bible belt and considered a "southern" town. Lets talk about the food here. I've eaten at this location several times, I always like to try something new here, the food is good, well prepared and the service is solid. They change their menu every so often as a good restaurant should. My meals here have been varying between awesome, to mediocre. I've tried their seasonal Chicken Salad sandwich. It's classic and pretty "cookie-cutter". It does have the fruit that you would expect. Apple chunks, grapes. Of course the Chicken is grilled and then chilled for the salad. It's a clean eat. Probably one of my favorites that they use on the seasonal menus. They have a Sirloin steak. It's a little heavy handed on the seasonings, so my recommendation is to ask for it unseasoned or maybe lightly if you prefer that. I personally like to taste the meat, not the seasoning. But hey, I'm a purist. When ordering your steak the standard rule of going one level lower than you want, doesn't really apply here. The cooks are skilled enough to hit medium, or medium rare without missing it too badly. Maybe not even noticeably. But to be safe I did go with that rule. But it was pretty spot on for the rare that I ordered. However, The crowning jewel here, Buffalo wings, that are awesome. No fake seasoning, You know the type, Metal tasting or just pure pepper. These wings are an appetizer of course, but you get enough if you add an order of fries, you have a meal. One more amazing item that they have here. Peanut Butter Pie. It's a weakness of mine. But their pie is better than most I've had. It's always prepared well, and it comes out with chocolate syrup made to look like a 5 star restaurants desert. I HIGHLY recommend you try it when you stop by! Service is pretty good for a small diner in London. It's nothing really special, but there is a waitress there that has become our "regular". She's pretty awesome. Most days it's semi-slow in there, so it shouldn't take as long as it does to get food and service, but they are attentive and try to do the best they can. Stopped by on our way to Gatlinburg, TN. Looking for something different than fast food. Saw the review here on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Only a few miles off of the expressway and worth the diversion to avoid the usual fast-food and Cracker Barrel fare. So glad we did! Great atmosphere, good beers on draft, and a simple menu with great food. Our bill for 4 kids and 2 adults with a couple beers was 48.00 (not including tip). Service was excellent. I had the Shrimp Po Boy and my wife had the turkey avocado club, and both were delicious. She also enjoyed the tomato basil soup. The kids loved their burgers and Abbey Chips. The only reason why I'm giving it a three star is because of the service and the wings. Other than that my chicken was burnt and it had no flavor. I saw my favorite dish in the menu that I have never seen a restaurant do it so I ordered to try it and it was a complete disappointment. I can seriously cook that dish better than the one they served me. I came to this place because it was listed for five star but I am disappointed about how people review this place. Very nice quaint restaurant in downtown. Worth the drive off the interstate for a modern feel without the chain feel hometown restaurant. Our food was hot and good. The Abbey Chips were way too salty. We had Fried Green tomatoes that were not like my mom makes but good for a restaurant and something different. My mom wanted to try something different so she had the bison burger w/sweet potato fries and enjoyed it. Her only complaint was it needed some mayo to help with the lean meat and dry but good bun. My father had ribeye and baked potato with zero complaints only compliments. They cooked it just the way he requested. I had crab cakes. They tasted great but were quite greasy. If we would have known to request light salt, mayo I think we would have gone with 5 stars. The service was 5star! read more

This is my favorite restaurant in town. I love the decor, location, staff, and most of all: Food! They have better steaks than any "hometown" restaurant. The Abbey Salad is to die for. The Abbey is my "go-to" place for a burger when in London. They cook them to temp and they're char-grilled and delicious! The fries aren't fresh-cut but they're still pretty good. I have been here twice, I will not be back a third time. First time was on Mother's Day and so I thought the service being subpar was just because of the day. Then I went before dinner service on a normal week day and the service was still subpar. We were seated and informed by the server that he had been triple sat so it would be a moment before he would get out drinks to us, no problem but he was the one that sat us in his section, there were clearly other servers that had tables when we got there and continued to take tables after we were seated. And, from my count, they didn't have three. So the server choose to triple seat himself. He did run his tail off but we got our nachos with cold melted cheese and then got our salad with out entrees. But really, it's the food that makes me not want to return. For me, giving me margarine for my baked potato and charging me for a loaded potato in which I get a pinch of cheese and a few bits of bacon is ridiculous. My catfish was alright. Living in London, KY for 3 weeks on a rotation and my classmates and I decided to give this place a go. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice, and the service was very good. I got the Buffalo chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was good tasty, just a bit too salty. One of my friends got the sirloin and they gave her A1 sauce with it, so take that as you will. The grilled chicken sandwich was also pretty decent. The catfish was ok. However, the service was so poor and our waitress was so rude it made the entire experience horrible. We waited forever on service. The lava cake was microwaved to a crisp and when I complained she told me that it was the point of a lava cake to taste burnt. Nevermind the fresh char on the edges. I will never go back. Stopped here on our way down to Florida. My wife had the black and blue burger. Which she loves. My daughter and I had salads which were great our son had the chicken strips which were also great. Was traveling on 75 and decided to take a trip to this spot for lunch. The restaurant had a good lunch crowd, which is a good sign, but the staff was not overly friendly or accommodating. The fried pickles were too salty, but the burgers were amazingly good. Fresh, hand patted patties on soft buns. I have to say I was a bit disappointed in this place. We came here on a Friday night so we expected there to be a wait for pretty much everything and there was. However, the disappointment came when we received our meals. We ordered steaks that tasted great actually but everything was cold, not even close to warm. They offered a 10 percent discount on our checks that helped lessen the sting of being disappointed but we just won't be going back there again. It's a shame too. read more

Pretty much your typical Americana style restaurant. Mozzarella sticks and french fries from a frozen food distributor, I'm sure most of the food there would be the same. The ambiance was good--music mellow and low key except for a brief period when someone turned up the volume. The menu was broad enough to cover most preferences. Even on a Sunday evening, everything seemed to be fresh and cooked to order. Steak tips, chicken, vegetables, and fried green tomatoes--all excellent. My husband ordered peanut butter pie to go.
