We sought refuge while walking around the chilly city, and found this cozy spot. It wasn't very busy, as it was early in the day, which was perfect. The street outside was blocked off for a movie filming, which is not uncommon in Chicago. On a normal day, parking would have been right outside, which was fine! It was blistering cold outside, and we were welcomed by warm and friendly bartenders. We ordered a simple chicken sandwich and fries, with a double Jameson neat on the side, but it was more than a bite and a drink that kept us. Wife and I Stopped by for a quick lunch today and I must say, we'll definitely be back! Great food, awesome service! By mistake we forgot to inform the waitress that we didn't want bacon on our chicken wrap, and she got us a new one on the house even though we offered to pay for both. This was a very good gesture especially since it was our fault. Mac & Cheese bites are a must! Chicken wrap was flavorful and the thick-cut fries were satisfying. Myself and some friends were in the mood for some wings and football yesterday evening and we just so happened to land on Aberdeen Tap. I was not sure what to expect, but I trust my friends opinions, and decided since the "wings are bomb" I might as well just get that (always have to check with the waiter/waitress on these things too and this is where it gets interesting) Our waiter whom I will remain anonymous mentioned the wings are AMAZING, but I ordered them with more hesitation than James Harden attempting a three pointer, when his response to my question "there seems to be a plethora of sauces which is your favorite was "I like all of them" Main reason for the hesitation is that, THIS CLEARLY MEANS THE WAITER DOES NOT EAT THE WINGS and knowing what I know now, he makes the proper decision. Now to the delivery: I ordered the wings and they came out almost quicker than the potato wedges we ordered initially as well (hmmm maybe they are using old meat? Not sure) the presentation of the wings were not bad, I was feeling like that 6 year old kid Christmas morning, finally I can eat. I took a drum first, jerk rub, got the game on with a nice cold PBR for 3$ this place was looking like I might have to come back, but what was about to happen, is something personally I have never had happen to me, and caused me to be so alarmed that I created this yelp account to post this review to get this word out to other so they cannot allow themselves to make the same mistake as I did. **** Let it be known I do enjoy eating wings and have ordered them multiple places this is by far with a landslide victory the worst*** As I take my first bite, I noticed the wing just felt weird so I take my bite (which felt like pop rocks) and I can almost taste sand....... (I am not trying to make this out to be any kind of satire, this is non-fiction and caused loss of sleep last night) I rushed to rip what I thought was a chicken wing from my mouth, but to my surprise the bone was almost disintegrating. Something I had never seen or tasted before, and I immediately get queasy as I attempt to pull bone fragment from my teeth. I am serious, bone fragments, it was so fowl that I was in a state of shock almost. I grab the waiter and show the "wing" to him, and say "i appreciate the hype on the wings my man, but does this not alarm you" ***Now this is where I thought to write the review*** He took the wing, threw it immediately in the garbage placed 4 feet from behind me and said "don't worry about the wings on the bill we will cover that" honestly I was thinking more toward them having to cover the hospital bill that was going to emerge from this chaos. To sum up the visit, for the next 30-45 minutes, post telling waiter about the atrocious piece of possibly anything at this point was not acceptable, our waiter would not come back to the table. We concluded that he might be embarrassed at first, but when 40 minutes hit and I had to get up to go to the bar and ask for more water or they may have a clean up on table 5 I think this is when I boiled over and just needed to leave. As a table, the chicken wrap that a buddy had looked awesome, it really did, and they had a sausage on a bun sandwich that looked appetizing thinking on it now, but I was not able to think about putting anymore of whatever ingredients they are using over here. The water thing got to me because he could visually see I was distraught and possibly going to be sick, but again I really think the embarrassment hit him close to as hard as this wing did to me. We wanted to get out immediatetly after getting the check, but something was on my concious and I took a picture for venmo amounts for the person that threw their card down. Thank God I did, because I look this morning AND THE WINGS ARE MOST DEFINITELY ON THE RECEIPT AND ARE MOST DEFINITELY PAID FOR WHICH IS WHY I AM WRITING TO YOU ALL, Aberdeen. I was appreciative that this bar operated during the Covid pandemic. Now my second time, I love the ability of such a small staff to manage so efficiently all of the customers. The one waitress is certainly the most present in awhile and seems very content in her ability to provide that great service with a smile. The inside is generally dark so during the day it seems like a dungeon but keep your focus on the food and service. My eating partner tried the "Duck Confit" and was amazed at how good and well presented it was. I had quite a juicy and well cooked "Medium" with wonderful toppings and tots to round out the delicious meal. Can't believe I've been living in the city for 9 years and today was my first time hitting up the Aberdeen Tap. The staff are really nice folks and take solid care of you even when they know you're not intending to spend the big bucks (stopped here to watch a basketball game while I waited for my dog to get groomed and had a sandwich, chili, and sipped on a Diet Coke for over an hour). The food was great. Just simple bar food and well-executed. Definitely making this a go to spot! read more

I recently visited this bar with some friends on St. Patrick's day and saw some people giving the door person a hard time while we all waiting on line to get it. Considering this being one of, if not, the biggest drinking holiday I think the door person handled him self well. This particular group was definitely intoxicated and I don't really know what was happening, but I'm glad I didn't have to experience this amateur hour. We've really been enjoying this bar. We meet a group of people in the back room for WVU game watch parties - one of the owners is a WVU grad, too. We've enjoyed really good service, food and drinks here. There are always specials like $5 Bloody Marys on weekends and a rotating $5 featured beer of the month. The space is comfortable and the game is on 2 TVs in the back space for easy viewing. The fried Mac & Cheese bites are somewhat addicting, the shrimp tacos are nice & spicy with really large breaded shrimp and my hubby swears the short rib sandwich is perfection. Came here for a team lunch outing as its not too far from the office. The selection for food and drinks are vast which gives this a ton of variety for lots of people. I dropped a star only due to one thing, I ordered the wings which were $12 and was told that they were rather big wings and could be categorized as a meal/entree. Despite that, the wings were delicious but they were not equivalent to a meal. I got half buffalo and half something bbq. Stopped in this cute neighborhood gem for a quick dinner on a Monday night. So many places are closed on Mondays but luckily they were open. Brick walls, big windows and a long bar frame the small room. The windows are actually garage doors that roll completely open when the weather allows. The rustic, casual vibe was perfect. There was live entertainment, which was a bit loud but very good. What a fun surprise! We ordered margaritas, shrimp tacos and the Cubano sandwich. Everything was delicious and fresh. My friend and I shared and we both loved everything. Our server was friendly and professional. She made a great experience exceptional. Comfortable in a neighborhood/location where 'comfort' doesn't spring to mind. Who knew the West Loop had neighborhood bars? Well, from the looks of all these reviews before mine, a lot of people. But, better late than never. I get it now: come for the beer and stay for the food. First point of order in going to a bar, the brews. If a bar doesn't have a good selection, why does it exist and why are you patronizing it? Luckily for all involved, TAT has a fantastic selection of brews. I go back and forth between Daisy Cutter and Bell's Amber. [Slight point of order: I thought I remember being told, years ago, that Bell's couldn't be served/bought in Chicago. No?] I do appreciate a good beer selection... and that brings me to my second point: the people pouring the beer and serving it to you are nice. Nice. As in, no attitude. It's such an added and unexpected bonus that I had to make mention of it. Again, I don't go to bars because the people who work there are nice. I go for the beer. Granted, I don't want to push spat upon, but if the bartender/waitress simply takes my order, brings me my beer and keeps it moving, I don't get bent out of shape. Here: smiles, eye contact, chit-chat. It makes a (positive) difference. Thirdly, one should not go to a bar for food. You should go to a restaurant for food. Go to a bar to drink. If the bar has food, cool. If it has good food, great! TAT has good food! They're not reinventing the wheel or serving the essence of quail thoughts frozen at conception and served in an oversized Kangol. They serve food, good bar food: chicken wings, sweet potato tots (hello, somebody!), fried calamari, cevapcici, burgers, and grinders. We all know my beef issue, so I tend to stay away from the stuff. But, a winter weekend afternoon of Daisy Cutter, sweet potato tots with ranch dressing and a pork grinder really can't be beat. Had a chance to stop in to celebrate a certain person's leaving for New York! I gotta say I really like this joint even if its in an area where there isn't a lot of stuff. 5-star bump! Met fellow Yelper, Dan G. here for an after work IPA (or four), and loved the huge beer list again (Lagunitas "Sucks", Rogue "Yellow Snow", Daisy Cutter). Service is done with a smile and we were well-attended to. Gator Banger! As in an alligator "banger" (sausage) in a bun, smothered with a spicy brown remoulade that I would put on everything! What makes this place so awesome? I really can't put my finger on what "it" is, but like The Kid in the movie Magic Mike (yes I'm not ashamed to say I love that flick) Aberdeen Tap has it. It's not a super flashy Channing Tatum-like tavern, but it seems to rain dead presidents on them all the same with some of the good old fashion features of a great American neighborhood joint. It's just your regular old corner bar with great food, super friendly service, and some sidewalk seating for when weather permits. There's a good sized beer list with some great local flavors as well as imports. The food menu boasts bangers (sausage sandos) and grinders (open-faced sandos) that will knock your socks off and the jukebox always seems to be playing something that'll make you say, "Damn...this is a great song!" Overall Aberdeen gets an A+ as far as I'm concerned. read more

This place came highly recommended by a bartender I spoke to recently so I had high hopes. The place itself is ok. Neighborhood corner bar. outdoor seating, food, drinks. tvs on, music playing. parking isn't too bad. The duck confit is good. The burger is ok. bland. Our drinks were just ok. Now we could have just chalked it up for bum luck and kept on drinking but honestly, the service was pretty bad. The place wasn't packed so it's not like they were busy. I almost hate to write this review as I am sure as this place catches on, my new place for watching Bears action in a comfortable, uncrowded, friendly atmosphere will soon be history . . .but for now the Aberdeen Tap pulled off a near perfect visit the other day. We almost didn't get here as my football loving friend really hates to try anything new, especially when it comes to football watching. But after a little convincing that if he didn't like it, we'd go somewhere else at the half, he acquiesced and we were on our way. And just like in that old Life cereal commercial, he "liked it". Whew! A bit off the beaten path but worth looking for, the Aberdeen Tap is at the Corner of Hubbard and Aberdeen in the site of the former Peek a Boo bar. It's a great location, actually, as there is plenty of free (yes, I said free!) parking along Hubbard where it runs along the side the railroad tracks. The space is great! Exposed brick walls, comfortable bar stools, windows looking out on the street and those wonderful garage door walls that roll up in the Summer to bring the outside, inside! I also have it on good authority that there is outdoor seating on the Hubbard side sidewalk in the Summer, bringing the total seating capacity to around 150 seats. Gotta love that. But for now, in these Winter months, there are about 20 seats at the bar and a number of high top tables located around the perimeter. Cozy, simple and warm. Our bartender, Nica (sp?), was great! She welcomed us as newcomers, offered us both the brunch menu (til 3 on Saturdays and Sundays) and the regular menu to order off of, and didn't even look at us with disdain when we ordered a couple of domestic bottles of beer versus one off of their extensive list on tap or bottled beers (including one of my favs Allagash White). There are daily specials (on Sunday it was $5 Bloody Mary's and $3 PBR's) but check the chalkboard to get others as the list was too long for me to remember them all The menu has a good range of bar favorites (burgers,wings, egg rolls, sweet potato tots) as well as some unexpected items such as a range of sausages, as well as some sandwiches I had never heard of (chee vap, anyone?) We had the shrimp bisque soup (soup of the day) and split a BLT that also came with some of those sweet potato tots. Delicious! The soup was warm and creamy with chunks of shrimp and our sandwich was built club style on a soft bun with peppercorn mayo and cheese that got two thumbs up from my football watching partner as well. Considering the amount of beer we drank, and the food, I was surprised to see our bill was only around $50! Throw in a nice tip for the bartender and our Bears Sunday Funday was quite reasonable. We headed here after dinner to grab a couple of drinks to celebrate my friend's birthday. It started off great - good drinks and super-friendly service. What more do you need, right? Unfortunately, the experience soured pretty quickly thanks to their allergic reaction to our seemingly ordinary choice of tune in their jukebox. We put money in the jukebox and chose a couple of tunes - a few seconds into the song, they cut it off and went to a next song. When we asked the waitress what happened, she replied that she cut it off, and she did so because she dislikes the band's lead singer. Puzzled, I commented that I should get a refund on the $1. She asked us to take it off the tip which, to which we said we can't do that...so she returned and forcefully slapped the dollar onto our table. Fair enough. But still odd. Too bad the amazing service we got for 90% of the evening came off the rails after we used the jukebox. Overall, still a great place. (imagine me pointing my thumbs at myself) A good neighborhood bar hidden in a quiet location, I came here with a large group the night before Thanksgiving. It was surprisingly not busy (isn't that the biggest drinking night of the year?) but that's ok but we were able to find plenty of seats and the bar has got a nice calm feel about it. They have an impressive beer selection. Prices are on the higher end, but nothing crazy. I got hooked on the Allagash White (oh boy is it good!) but that night they had Stella on special for $3. Not complainin' there! Also had the $5 burger with fries on special, which tasted just fine. The bar is pretty close to the expressway, I found no trouble parking, there were no parking meters, and it's also close to the blue line. What a great location. The bartender was really friendly and there are a couple tv's in case there's a game on. What I'm saying is my friends and I would have no problem consuming alcohol at this bar. We were crying into our Champagne cocktails (the low-$ special!) on this night over the imminent departure of Colleen, Yelp's fabulous Chicago community manager. Chicago's loss is NYC's gain. Even under these trying times, a good time was had by all at the Aberdeen. Everyone there was Super Elite, glittery and fabulous. The Aberdeen is great! As I was stressing about it being way out practically in the suburbs, I realized it's only steps off the 65 Grand bus. The back room was a little small for all the Yelpers in attendance, but I'm going with "cozy" - when you know lots of the people, the closeness is not a problem. Great beer selection - I'll be back for some Allagash White, and I heard the food is good too. I didn't sample any, but from the high praise, I can see stopping back for that. The Aberdeen Tap has GREAT atmosphere. As soon as it warms up, they open up the front of the building, and sitting at the bar feels like you're sitting outside. It's great. We stopped in for specialty beers (Forbidden Root Strawberry Basil and Ace Peach Cider were delicious) and appetizers. Service was outstanding for a bar. I loved their Carolina Coast wing sauce and black bean chorizo chili. Their buffalo wing sauce was just "meh" and I probably won't order it again as not much flavoring. Burgers are $5 on Wednesdays. I am happy to call Aberdeen Tap a neighborhood bar of mine. I didn't realize until mapping the location that it is less than a mile away from my place (can you tell I just moved?). This could change a few things from now on. A note that I stayed here long enough the last time to check in twice - so I was a regular in one night. I enjoyed it that much. The bar tenders were awesomely attentive, conservative and generally made me want to hang around longer. Hence spending more than $250 between two of us. Yep that kind of evening. I have to say the beer selection above average - just take a quick glance at their website. The neighborhood crowd makes for a breath-of-fresh-air atmosphere. I have ran the gauntlet in Wrigleyville so you can see where I am coming from. Besides having all the great stuff noted above the food was pretty damn good. I had the duck confit (sausage style) grinder which was laced with garlic aioli and chimichurri sauce. Perfect compliment to all the booze that was flowing. Later on a couple patrons joined us and we decided we couldn't deny crispy fried spring rolls with sweet thai chili sauce and the sweet potato tots with ranch. Two very good choices.
