This bar is just up the street from me, has a really nice outdoor area and I've wondered why I don't use it more. Well today I realized, stopped there for two beers and an a simple appetizer at 5:30, when many other bars in the neighborhood are offering happy hour pricing. Two IPA's and one appetizer with tip $40. We ordered potato skins which were as pathetic as I've ever witnesse. I had no idea Russet potatoes came in such minuscule sizes. Four tiny little skins topped with a bit of cheese and bacon bits, $14. Add the tax and tip to that and you're looking at $18 plus for 4 measly potato skins. Fun local neighborhood hangout. Was on a pub crawl Friday with a friend in the area and he took me here. While too nice of a place to be labeled a dive bar, I will still put it in that category out of respect and my love of these types of places. Bartenders that feel like they've known you for years, great local beers, and of course classic "old man" beers like PBR on tap. First time here and pleasantly surprised. Super kind staff, lots of seating choices, free parking around the block, and great food. The mac and cheese squares are incredible! Super creamy yet crispy on the outside and paired with the marinara...oh so good. Pretzels were soft and salty. Good cheese and mustard dipping sauces. Caesar salad was great but those nachos!!! I would say, top five, maybe top pub/gastropub grub in chicago, edges out Centennial and even my beloved Owen and Engine. Literally everything rules, got the Cubano grinder last night and good lord, so good, unctuous, rustic and indulgent. Got the poutine, a little light on curds but equally indulgent and amazing. Also had a few bites from their chicken sandwich and let me tell you that was brined in something really amazing. After seeing this wonderfully aesthetic exterior for many weeks I decided to stop by and give it a go. I was not disappointed. The drinks are made well and priced at a good value. A solid beer here will run about $6-$8 max and the "featured cocktails" are typically $8. The interior is a small corner of a building that is wonderfully decorated. Food is excellent and can hold its own against a "conventional" restaurant. I would return as a regular, and if your visiting Chicago, I would 100% recommend for food or drink! read more

My friend used to live in the area and this was one of his hidden gems. I'm so very glad he introduced us to this place. It's got a really great chill vibe. The staff is great; they kind of just leave you alone to chill and hang out with your friends, but will be there when you need things. The service is fairly quick. They're not over run with people on a Monday night, but they've got room to accommodate on busy nights. Monday nights are specials on grinders (awesome delicious sandwiches). We each got beers and grinders, which come with fries. I tried the duck confit. It was good and even duck confit fancy tasting (part of the charm of this place...the other options looked really good too). My friends got the buffalo chicken, which made me want that. I also wanted to try the pork belly. Decisions are hard to make; I'll just have to go back. TLDR: the food is good (grinders are on special on Monday). The service is good. Despite being in a residential neighborhood, there was always a good crowd here whenever I walked by. My friend and I dropped by for a quick lunch, and I can now understand why this is a neighborhood favorite. I ordered the Southwest salad, and my friend ordered the BLT club. The food was great, the service was quick and attentive, and the ambience was chill and great for comfortably hanging out while maybe watching a game. Here's what you need to know: -Easy street parking -Get the Duck Grinder -$5 burger on Wednesday As for the details, I came on Wednesday night and the place was packed! There was plenty of outdoor seating open, but it was a bit chilly. I sat by the bar waiting for my friend and the bartender served me up a cup of water right away. I must have been thirsty because the water was gone before my friend arrived, but the bartender promptly refilled it even though I haven't ordered anything yet. That's pretty great service. I was able to snag a table after a few minutes of being there. Unbeknownst to me at the time, there's another section of the restaurant with more tables in the back past the bathrooms. It's way brighter in there, though. The music was good (well, if you like pop music), but very loud, which cause the people to talk loudly making it very loud overall. The waitress was pretty great - friendly and helpful. Duck Grinder $12 - I swore off ordering duck anywhere outside Chinatown after having eaten some disappointing duck dishes. I was on the fence about trying it here, but reading the review convinced me to try it and it was awesome! This shredded duck with its garlic aioli served on a piece of pillowy bread blew my taste buds away. The steak fries were good, too. I'll come back for this grinder. Slice Chunky Monkey Pie $6 - I was so looking forward to trying this concoction...but unfortunately they ran out. Guess I'll have to come back for more tasty beer and yummy grinder. read more

There's PBR on tap; what more do you need? We stumbled upon this hidden gem thanks to Yelp. What a phenomenal discovery! I knew from the moment that we walked in the door that we had found the perfect place for a weekday night. The Aberdeen Tap is a perfectly sized space that can accommodate five or fifty of your closest friends. The building itself is nondescript from the outside, but absolutely beautiful on the inside with exposed brick, granite coutettops, and retractable garage doors which look like they'd be perfect on a warm summer evening. Our bartenders Chris and Zak (named after the movie) were truly phenomenal. They made us feel like Norm must have felt every time he walked in to Cheers. Chris has been here since opening day (5 years!) and you can tell that he's truly passionate about his work. What a stellar example of customer service! The food is DELISH. Definitely try the fried mac and cheese and the gator banger. Just plan to be sleep afterward from being so super full. Make sure to stop by the next time you're in Chicago, and if you've already been - go back! Love this place! read more

Great little neighborhood corner bar/grill with character. Brought my dad here for lunch. Atmosphere: Clean, dark woods and a little utilitarian. Exposed brick, high-top tables, nice bar area and plenty of TV's. Lively with lots of locals but not loud. Front windows are actually garage doors that were retracted up creating an open air experience. Very nice. Food: Wednesday special was their 1/2 burger and steak fries for $5.00 (normally $9) and a good local beer (can't remember the name) for $4.00. The burger and fries were very, very good and the beer of the day was excellent. Service: Brisk and accurate. We are not locals/regulars and although we felt welcomed we did not get the warm neighborhood vibe...maybe next time :-) Value: Great value. Burger and beer special was excellent considering the quality and quantity. Both of us enjoyed this place. Food and drink were excellent and the price was right. i was just in with my friends. We went to leave and the doors auto locked. My friend (who was drunk) drunkenly kicked the door because it would not open. The bald bartender with the glasses started yelling at her that she's a stupid bitch to the entire bar. I stood up for her and told him not to talk to a woman like that and he proceeded to call me a dumb cunt. I have never been talked to before in such a manner by an employee. I don't appreciate this behavior and expect more of this bar as i enjoy coming here until today. They need to hire better employees who don't have anger problems and know how to treat those who are paying them to have an enjoyable experience. read more
