I am happy to call Aberdeen Tap a neighborhood bar of mine. I didn't realize until mapping the location that it is less than a mile away from my place (can you tell I just moved?). This could change a few things from now on. A note that I stayed here long enough the last time to check in twice - so I was a regular in one night. I enjoyed it that much. The bar tenders were awesomely attentive, conservative and generally made me want to hang around longer. Hence spending more than $250 between two of us. Yep that kind of evening. I have to say the beer selection above average - just take a quick glance at their website. The neighborhood crowd makes for a breath-of-fresh-air atmosphere. I have ran the gauntlet in Wrigleyville so you can see where I am coming from. Besides having all the great stuff noted above the food was pretty damn good. I had the duck confit (sausage style) grinder which was laced with garlic aioli and chimichurri sauce. Perfect compliment to all the booze that was flowing. Later on a couple patrons joined us and we decided we couldn't deny crispy fried spring rolls with sweet thai chili sauce and the sweet potato tots with ranch. Two very good choices. One of our favorite bars in the neighborhood with an outside patio. We went for Sunday brunch, surprisingly it was open on Easter. I am a sucker for a deal/special/discount and this spot has great daily specials. Weekends they offer $5 bloodies & mimosas, we had at least 3 Bloody Maria (tequila, my fav). I absolutely still love coming here however, I feel like things have been a bit clumsy recently. I was in on New Year's Day for their Wednesday burger special and it happened to be happy hour. I was told by the waiter that I wouldn't be charged for my drink since he spilled water all over my lap and soaked my jeans. I thought, fine I'll take a free drink just to find out I was charged full price for my happy hour drink. Jokes on me. The Aberdeen tap has been fawned over and lauded by so many I didn't really believe it was as awesome as they claimed. However, it is as great as advertised, make no mistake. The service is fantastic, as the bartenders are the kind of dudes who will attempt to solve lone star puzzles with you while simultaneously keeping every glass in the bar full, quite a feat considering how infuriating those things can be. The food is solid, they have Cher-vaps on the menu, which usually are only available at Chicago street festivals, so they remind me of beautiful summer days even when the fall and winter in this city get me down. What a great neighborhood bar! It took us awhile to try this place, but boy am I glad we did. Aberdeen Tap has the feel of a bar that's been there for ages. It's consistently filled with regulars, and the bartenders seem to truly enjoy what they do. I love that the bar opens up so easily to the outside -- they've got two full sidewalks of outdoor tables and the bar itself opens up all the windows and doors in good weather. Most importantly, Aberdeen Tap serves fresh and creative bar food. I love that the feature specials for various nights of the week. As everyone else mentions, their sweet potato tots are AMAZING. Went to Aberdeen Tap around 9pm on a Saturday. I got the Roxy which was a light and refreshing mixed drink that was $7. I also got the buffalo chicken grinder for around $12 which was very mediocre. The fries were super crispy and seasoned well however the sandwich was drowned entirely in buffalo sauce and the chicken was breaded to an extreme. I would come back for drinks but the food is hardly anything to write home about. read more

Came here last night with 6 other friends because we heard about the 5$ burger and fries deals on Wednesday's, and we were more than impressed! The burgers were thick and fresh and the fries crispy and delicious. They have a great drink menu and have daily deals which makes it a great place to come for young professionals who don't wanna sacrifice their firstborn for a decent meal in the Loop. As soon as my foot touched the floor my body flooded with dopamine and serotonin. It was as if I was guided by my belt into the seat, and then faster than two shakes of the Lamb of God's tail, the waiter arrived. He explained the menu more savagely than the most verbose slam poet, and by the time he got to the day's special even I felt social indignation rising in my gullet. Twenty-five minutes and three Randy Alexanders later, the waiter appeared again, this time as if he were a powerful gladiator, fresh from the ludus, his oiled flesh reflecting the rose pedals that rained down from on high. My beautifully powerful and earnest champion, a Murmillo, stepped onto the sacred sands ready for glory or death, if in fact there is a difference between the two for his ilk. He was armed with a sumptuous array of meats as his Gladius and a fourth Randy Alexander as his Scutum. The other patrons' blood began to rise. People were pouring alcohol onto their faces and bodies. The table next to me, that I'm pretty sure was a graduation party, began to openly copulate. The glowing embers of battle began to stoke in my own belly. I was there, my senses sharpened to those of Romulus the Great Wolf, in whose wake doomed empires were built, which in turn gave birth to other doomed empires, and so on, like the webs of shattering glass falling in as lethal fangs closing and cutting deep into the flesh of history. I've been going to Aberdeen Tap for years and I've always gone with the same people. Today, it's St. Patrick's day, and I went with the same people, who for reference are all 29. The bouncer bent my friends ID in half and said it was fake - he is literally turning 30 in 5 months and has gray hair. Staff OR patrons! And frankly, its sort of a rarity. I rarely find a bar I want to stay awhile, and that is exactly what occurred when I visited Aberdeen Tap (formerly Peek-a-Boo) on a Friday night at around 930pm. Prime douching hour, at most bars....but Aberdeen remains chill, toasty and friendly. Nestled on an unassuming corner station at Aberdeen Hubbard. A classic corner bar that is well updated and boastin' a bountiful beer list. Plenty of tables, a supremely friendly and attentive staff (our server with red hair was a joy), and an above-average bar fare menu complete with "chee-vaps" sandwich, sweet potato tots, and much more. ALLAGASH WHITE on draft!? Well, color me sunk into my seat for awhile, I'm staying. The jukebox and easy, non-permit street parking are icing on the cake. Especially when you drink a few too many brews off the stellar list (why I thought Fin du Mond was a great idea when already pretty tipsy, who knows?) because you can leave your wheels parked nearby, take a responsible cab home, and trod back at anytime to fetch it. No beating the meter maids over here, folks! A great bar. A great crowd. Wonderful service. A winner of a beer list and a menu that will keep most people quite satisfied. And the best part? While I'm still torn on the idea of ClipArt, I'd be remiss in giving anything less than a 4-star rating to a business that promotes their weekly trivia on a single sheet of white copy paper with Sir Homer J. Simpson's image sidled up next to the event info. After that, there's also craft beer (LOTS of it) and bangers, which aren't for my strictly veggie diet, but I like the idea of taking a phallic piece of meat and combining it with the word 'bang'. What a combo! I fell in love with their craft beer selection, but having already gotten pretty lubed up at our previous location so I went with a reallyreallygoodbutkindofpussyalcoholic ginger beer. I'd like to mention that while I did love my meager 4.3% ABV Crabbie's Ginger Beer it's $7 price tag was a little hard to stomach as were some of the other prices on beer, which were noticeably higher than other beers in area bars... but then again there aren't too many bars set away from the 'main drag' like Aberdeen Tap, so the plus side is that while you may pay a premium on certain specialty beers, the crowd here isn't your usual weekend drinking crowd or even your standard beer snob. They seem to be a decent crowd of decent people, just like you and I, who don't need to prove anything or impress anyone and just want to sit there, listen to decent not-too-trendy music and enjoy my mildly over-market-value-priced beer. read more

You should be drinking good beer from their extensive beer menu served by wise people who make you smile. Isn't this what intelligent people look for in a bar? And while you're there...check out some of the fantastic food. The bangers are very good, the BLT made my mouth happy (and we all know that's what's important), I like the hummus platter and the greek salad with chicken too. Oh! Fried macaroni and cheese! How can I forget about that?! Need another reason to show your pretty face at the Aberdeen Tap? The staff. They are lovely people who serve you food and alcohol. I was already impressed by Aberdeen Tap's voluptuous beer list, but now I have to add their stellar food (sweet potato tots, battered mac 'n' cheese bites and juicy wings, to name a few items) and smiling service to the roster. And, they can effortlessly (and flawlessly!) host a large group! Really, not a misstep in their game. Aberdeen is the kind of bar that can suit any mood, any personality... take me, for example. One minute I was enjoying a cold Goose Island Sofie, and my next drink was champagne spiked with ginger liqueur. The new kid on the block. The fact that I actually walked past my beloved bistro to go to another bar in the hood must mean that something good was in store for us. Just up the street, next to the Metra, we found the Aberdeen Tap. It's near the Fulton market area, which was quiet on the weekend. The AT has a nice space. It was wide open on this sunny day and there were some families having a nice lunch at the shady cafe tables. They have a great beer selection here. Standouts include: Bell's Oberon and Two Hearted, Lagunitas Little Sumpin, Hacker Pschoor, Rogue Dead Guy, Daisycutter, and Allagash White. Oberon for the lady, Rogue right here. We opened with some jamming jerk chicken skewers. Spicy Boneless Pineapple Chutney w/ Flatbread. They had a great kick to them and the jerk marinade was excellent and well complimented by the pineapple chutney. Our server was all over the place handling all the tables and the bar, and doing so in an efficient and pleasant way. She stepped up with suggestions when we were waffling with the menu choices and keenly directed me to add cheddar to the beef brisket-Guiness braised with mushroom gravy. Good call on that tasty grinder, paired with some sweet tater tots. Chopped salad plus chicken for my wife. Daisycutter and two hearted for round two. Great beers and good eats will be bringing us back. Who knew places like this existed beyond the bistro? Looks like everyone but me. I need to get out more often. read more

The Aberdeen Tap is located in semi-quiet River West, where street parking is a breeze, and patio seating on a Sunday can be reserved for groups of 8 or more. There's a concise beer and bar food list. I was disappointed that they were out of the Duck Grinder, but I was pleased with my back-up which was the Short Rib Grinder with Merkt's cheddar and grilled red peppers. I swapped half of my sandwich with my husband, who ordered the Pork Parmesan Grinder. My favorite of the two was the Short Rib, but his favorite was the Pork. Two other people in our party ordered the short rib, so you can't go wrong. The Mac & Cheese squares are homemade with a crispy outside and creamy cheese center. For $10, this appetizer was a great choice. There was enough to share with our whole group (and I even had a second one!) This is a nice neighborhood spot to relax. We were meeting family (residing in Bucktown and Lakeview) and family from out of town (staying downtown), and while I don't mind commuting from Aurora to the city, picking a spot in River West made the drive much easier, and everyone was happy with the location choice. The prices aren't bad either; entrees are in the range of $10-12pp and beers in the $6-7 range. There's also a full bar and a few options for wine. Colleen's farewell party was pretty good and a nice gesture to show our appreciation for her and all that she's done for everyone. First of all, I have to mention to all those behind me that this place is not wheelchair accessible, by any means. Unless, of course, you have to pretty cool guys, employees of the bar in my case, who salvaged what could have been an embarrassing and wasted nights for me. (Note to self, always call ahead) The place did not disappoint. The bar itself was old-school, with a massive selection of drunkenness at the bartender fingertips. The look of the bar was simple, straightforward and welcoming. Plenty of room to move around and the back of the bar was a big bonus for our event. It allowed us our own space to celebrate pretty comfortably. Ms. Colleen was beautiful as always. Met some new guys who were pretty cool. Philip, what a character. I did see a plate of them go by and they looked delicious, so I'll definitely go back for some hot tot action in the very near future. I had a catchup session here with an old colleague. It's just a great unassuming neighborhood bar in West Loop, with great beer and good food, along with a chill atmosphere just the way I like it. Our server was Danielle, a young, pleasant, knowledgeable, and delightful server who has been there about a year. The business has been there about 5 years I'm told and smack dab in the middle of a residential area bounded by Metra tracks on one side and Grand Ave. on another. The space is small and ambiance is best by the bar though their is a back dining room away from the bar. There's music going in the background and a juke box to change the mix if you wish. One young couple even brought their toddler in while having their dinner here, so everyone welcome! My ol' colleague and I enjoyed a sharing of their delicious mac n cheese squares appetizer plate and a short rib grinder (his) and duck grinder sandwich (mine) with a generous serving of their steak fries. Along with the food, I also enjoyed here a Deschutes Red Chair APA on draft (very smooth at 6.2% ABV), a Founders Backwards Bastard scotch ale (creamy, strong, and flavorful at 11.6%ABV), and a Tallgrass 8-Bit APA (citrusy and mellow at 5.2% ABV). I never heard of the Aberdeen Tap until last Friday night when I was in the Fulton Market district for a gallery opening. Friends were there and we decided to join them for a nightcap. Since I hadn't eaten since lunch and it was about 11:30 p.m., I was pretty hungry and the menu made me MUCH less sad than most bar menus. I stumbled upon a gator banger and emboldened by hunger and liquor, I decided I NEEDED to try it. Our waitress was incredibly awesome and when I asked about it, she was completely knowledgeable and sold the sh*t out of it without being sales-sleazy. I chose the sweet potato tots, because I am not one to ever pass up a tot, if I have the option. Much to my dismay, gator was gone. I was sad, but switched gears to the lamb banger. Oh, it was good. So good. And the tots hit the spot. So much yum. I'm in this area once a month, so I do plan on going back and I will for sure be chomping on a gator banger. They better stock up. read more

Based on the reviews I'm seeing, it's evident I need to come back here and eat! I strolled in here on my way from a wedding to an afterparty nearby with some of the other guys attending the wedding. We were tasked with picking up beer for the after party (on foot), but there was nowhere to buy in the vicinity! Instead, we decided to just grab a beer at Aberdeen Tap because it was the only thing we passed that didn't look dead. One beer turned into three, and all the women wondering where we went! We were not disappointed. The tap selection was great and affordable. The bartenders were friendly and efficient. The place was packed, but we found a few stools at the end of the bar. The place was large enough to hold the crowd and still get drinks out in time without forming a huge wait. Luckily, despite being across the highway from River North, this place doesn't even have a smidgen of pretentionsness you'll find closeby. Just an fun, neighborhood bar! read more

What a wonderful bar......wunderbar! The decor, down to the signage is just great. The interior seems fresh and new. Just enough style and comfort to make you feel welcome, and a friendly staff to make it all possible. While they do have an impressive selection of beers, I blanked out and ordered my usual swill. I will be back to remedy that, don't worry. Ya hungry? This kitchen is hoppin' and poppin' out fresh and interesting food. I won't call it a gastropub because that is just too nerdy, but I will call it delicious. I learned a lesson in Chevapcici, tried sweet po-tater tots, and sampled some calamari. This place was recently re-opened (soft opening) under new management. I stopped by last weekend and, wow, was I impressed! Both the draft and bottle beer selection is amazing (Allagash White on draft...yes!!) and the food was awesome and very reasonably priced. There was street parking on the block even at 11:00 PM on a Saturday night. The decor is very cool without being pretentious with exposed brick walls, framed photographs on the wall, and appropriate lighting that is neither too bright nor too dark. This would be a great bar to just hang with friends, but would also be a nice place to take a date for an after-dinner drink (or many drinks!) The music was great and was neither too loud or too soft. There are a few flat screen TVs above the bar, but nothing too obtrusive (I get tired of bars that have 30 flat screen TVs plastering the walls.) The bar was well staffed and we didn't need to wait for a refill on our drink even though the bar was pretty full when we were there. In fact, the bartender actually came over to our table from behind the bar when she noticed that our glasses were empty and, without interrupting our conversation, asked if we needed a refill (yes, more Allagash White please!) The drink prices were very reasonable (cheaper than Wicker Park) and I hear that they have great food and drink specials as well. The bar has a patio and is in a great neighborhood that does not suffer from the obnoxiousness that plagues Wicker Park and Lincoln Park on the weekends. Having just moved in down the street, my fiancee and I were very excited to find a place this great within walking distance. Aberdeen Tap is run by the same guys that just opened up G&O on the corner of Grand and Ogden (thus the name), but Aberdeen is more my speed for a neighborhood joint. Our server (Samantha I think?) was very nice and warm, and took the time to ask our names and chat a bit, the kind of stuff that makes you want to come back. The menu is a lot more interesting and complex than I would've expected, and the pork belly grinder I ordered was awesome. I'm looking forward to sampling more of the food. If you're looking for a place to drink, they have an impressive whiskey selection and plenty of great beers to boot. Lastly, a small thing that is always important to me-the music was really good. The appetizers here are AMAZING. Fried Mac and cheese balls ALL DAY. And the pulled pork nachos are also amazing. I split these with another person and fill up just on the appetizers and never even need to order an actual entree. I have been here a few times for trivia on Sunday nights. The place is off the beaten path and small. They have a smattering of craft beers varying from the mild to the intense (I had a mole beer, flavors of chocolate and peppers). The prices may be a bit steep, but that isn't due to an outrageous mark up. The beers are expensive to begin with, and I don't imagine this place does the business to get wholesale prices. Food wise, the menu is relatively limited. The number of items aren't going to blow you away, but the unique-ness (if that is a word) will surprise you. I had the rabbit bangers and mash, but they also have alligator and lamb. The food was very good. We also split the deconstructed crab rangoon and the fried mac n cheese. The crab rangoon was flavorful, but it is served as a cold dish. I like my crab rangoon to be warm. The fried mac n cheese comes in perfect squares which blew my mind until they explained that they freeze the mac n cheese then cut it. Our servers were always great. The last time I went, our waitress was witty and fun. She wasn't afraid to give us hell for pretty much anything we said which fit our table's personality quite well.
