I've had this spot bookmarked for years... Finally decided to try since I have been craving. The old spot I use to go to switched chefs & once I'm use to something, I can tell the difference in taste or services! So, on the hunt for a new seafood boil spot, I go. I came here with my son. It's a small little mom & pop shop with a few tables. Small but clean. Plenty of parking spaces, that's always a plus. I ordered the SSK combo & substituted the shrimp for crawfish. Always happy when a restaurant can accommodate my requests on pre-fix menus. I chose the aces sauce + spice level flaming. I get nervous going to places sometimes because their spice don't be spicing the way I want it to. Lol. When it was originally brought out, I thought, "Aw man. It doesn't look spicy." But I guess it just wasn't mixed all the way through. Once I got mid-way through, I started to feel the heat. Good spice! I love spicy so it's hard for me to be spiced out. It was perfect, the flavor was there. The seafood tasted clean. I have an ick for seafood not cleaned properly & when you can still taste the "sea" in it. Ordered a side of rice + a drink as well. I love how they were not skimpy with their sausages, potatoes, & corn. There was soooo much & I didn't need to order everything a la carte how I usually do. My son got some mac&cheese with curly fries which was a hit for him. I also ordered some spicy garlic edamame. No complaints. I was so into the boil I didn't really get to have a chance on getting an opinion on the edamame. Which as my other reviews show, I love edamame. Waiter who I am also assuming is the owner was direct, to the point, & no frills. Service was good but nothing more. Would definitely come back & recommend coming here! This is my new spot as of now. Pretty upsetting - I called to place an order ahead of time. Once I called, immediately "I'm going to put you on hold." Understandable, it could possibly be busy. But, then I waited and I can hear them ringing people up and welcoming guests. I check the time on the phone it's been 5 mins. I try saying, "hello". Nothing. I try again, saying "hello". Nothing. Now, I'm waiting to see how long it's going to take for them to acknowledge me. I was waiting on the phone for almost 12 mins. I hang up to see if I can call them back, the phone is off the hook and I can't even order anymore. We had to go in and let them know I was waiting on the phone and that the phone was off the hook. No apology and just an "oh shit" moment. I completely understand about being busy and understaffed - but you shouldn't forget and leave a customer waiting on the phone. read more

Service was horrible, brought us our food all cold and i let her know the food was cold and she brought me to go bags??? I am not taking this food that is cold and tastes horrible, i was expecting atleast another bag as she seen i had only eaten 2 shrimps and half a potato, but i was wrong. Never again will i be going paid over 50$ for food that i did not eat GREAT! Also got sat in a very little table where all the sauce fell on me which was probably my fault but that was just even more great. Don't recommend i would just make the drive all the way to boiling crab! I hope they can get better serves and maybe when someone complains about the food either redo it for them or give them a discount. read more

The old guy who was our server was super horrible made us feel like he didn't want us there, can't be acting like that specially for how much we paid there. Told him he forgot some of our items he said it's all there which it wasn't then proceeds to talk across the restaurant in a rude manner like we messed up. The experience was horrible just because of him. And plus the food ain't fresh specially if you go when it's open, tasted straight up fishy. Overall dining experience was 8/10 which includes service and food quality! Parking was easy to find and it's in a little plaza in National City. I would say for a seafood boil craving, this would be a good fix if you're not too uptight on freshness/quality. The flavors are all there and service was good as well. I ordered the SSK combo with an extra pound of crawfish. The crawfish were a little small and previously frozen, a little shriveled, and the crab as well. Some of the shrimps were nice and plump, while some broke down which means they had been dead for quite a while. I buy seafood from Albertsons sometimes and it's reminiscent of that grocery store quality. The king crab leg in my bag was the most "fresh" in terms of texture and size. For someone looking for a craving fix, this satisfied me because it tasted so good. I have no complaints other than my general observations. read more

This place is nearby our house, so naturally we would try this place instead of venturing out. The service over the phone seemed alright. She took my order and when we received the order everything seem to be included. We got one of the combo deals. It had shrimp, potatoes , snow crab legs , sausage and corn. Seem like a decent price for what we got but it seem to need more crab, too many potatoes . Flavor seem to lack a little salt. So the salt pepper lime combo up the flavor. When my husband went inside to pick up the food it was during the week and it seem to be pretty quiet and causal inside the restaurant. We probably would try again to see improvement. read more

Our first time here in this small but mighty seafood specialty restaurant. After enjoying our large bowls of Gumbo and New England Clam Chowder, we ordered our 1/2 pound of shrimp with garlic butter and another 1/2 pound with lemon butter. What a surprise when they soon after brought the fish in a bag and proceeded to empty the contents on the paper tablecloth! We realized quickly that the large roll of paper towels would be used to wipe our hands and mouths as we demolished those little puppies in short order. Was super disappointed, was craving a spicy egg boil so my husband went down and ordered some eggs in what we were told was the best sauce they had, he added a half pound of shrimp (headless). When he arrived to my room with the food I was super excited.. for nothing. From the taste to the quality.. there was NO seasoning whatsoever, shrimp was dirty & you could tell they used cheap shrimp n eggs. Got to the restaurant it was low key located in a spot that was hidden. Walked inside and it was decorated cute and the music selection wasn't bad. I Was greeted by the lady who also assisted me with taking my order. She did not have a friendly demeanor and her answers to my question's related to the menu was unclear. It wasn't until the end that she clarified the combo for 2 was not ALL YOU CAN EAT.. The food was tasty and was served in a timely manner. My server forgot about me after she served my combo. lol There was a big party next to me that she I guess needed to attend to. When I was finished eating, I asked the AYCE question and I paid for my meal. I wanna say besides not being checked on after my food was served and my question's not being communicated clearly, the food was good. My friend recommended this place and I had to try. I ordered 1/2lb of shrimp, 1/2lb of corn on the cob and 1lb snow crab legs in old butter seasoning. The snow crab, corn and seasoning was delicious but the shrimp was way overcooked it was mushy like mashed potatoes. I couldn't even eat it I thought I was just maybe one or 2, nope, it was all the shrimp i tried to peel it was mush. Currently Ace Crab deserves all the stars because it's such a good spot with good portion of seafood, great sauces, and delicious appetizers. I was here for a Monday dinner and the restaurant is small but had many seats available and was not busy at all. They weren't playing music or anything so it was a bit quiet but that didn't bother me. I've tried their gumbo for take out and it was delicious so this was my first dine in experience. SSK Combo ($63): My bag had so many shrimps and the perfect amount of crab legs. Definitely worth sharing between 2-3 people as I got full when sharing with my boyfriend! Also comes with corn, potatoes, and andouille sausages. We got The Aces for our sauce which is all of the sauces combined and they were able to give us extra butter on the side. 5/5! Crab Poppers ($8): The crab poppers are so crunchy and have melted cheese in them. I could eat those any day! 5/5. The service was fast and we were checked on frequently. This place is seriously the best seafood boil spot in San Diego. None of the chains here even come close. We've been coming to this spot since 2021 and it's become so much livelier and the inside has been upgraded as well over time. Their service has remained the same, always amazing, quick, and friendly. Our favorite is the SSK combo with The Aces sauce mix. Their appetizers are too good to beat. I finally came back to visit since 2 years. I remember the food being amazing with good portion sizes. This third time I came during COVID purple tier. Restuarant hours show that it's open till 9 pm but when I called to place an order they said they close at 7:30 and I had to rush to get there on time. When I received the bag, I was disappointed in the portion size. I believe it could've been better for paying $49 with tax. There was barely any shrimp. I don't know if it was because it was near closing time for them, but it makes me want to go to other places with appropriate portion sizes. Despite this, the flavor has always been and still is amazing and top tier. If portion sizes were better, I would consider coming to this place again. read more
