So, after Thanksgiving week, my permanent date told me she was taking me out to dinner, and after a co-worker described the amazing salads at D'Lish, I had to check it out for myself. We dined on the Gorgonzola salad, meatball, scampi, and garlic mushroom appetizers, and they were simple but delicious. Our waitress was fantastic. A little bit of courtesy, and she served us like we were family. The restaurant itself is amazing for strip mall dining. Our first time here. Saw the reviews and liked what I saw and read. So glad we came. The place is quiet and nice. The tables and booths are spaced nicely. We were greeted by the friendly staff and our server Ana was very polite. Narciso who was bussing the tables was also really attentive. We ordered the lasagna and meetzilla baked penne pasta. Both servings were large enough for our appetite. We had to get a box to take the leftovers and the best part is we get to enjoy the food a second time. The cheese on both plates was so good. Took my friends there, had been here before: it was ok. Today was awful! We ordered, food came out, it was good; no issues here- I'm giving only 2 stars due to our waitress attitude. Wow, someone can be rude there!! Waitress rarely came back-unless we call her-to offer us drink refills, and when she did, she had an attitude, seemed bothered that we did. Great pizza and salads (pastas are now too greasy). Kitchen staff/cooks are awesome but horrible management. I have not only been going to D'Lish on H street in Terra Nova since they originally opened but have also recommended them to a lot of people. Even supported them when they opened a location in Eastlake that didn't last long. Over the last few years it has been going significantly downhill. I hadn't eaten inside anymore because the ambience and restaurant looked run down and dirty but had still been ordering takeout. Recently I tired to order to go as I always do and they made it very difficult by not allowing me to order ahead of time while I was driving (which is what I usually do and the food is ready when I get there and pay onsite). I asked why and they would not say, I asked for the manager and got the assistant manager, Nery, who said he had no idea. I asked to speak to the Manager or owner to get more information and they said they couldn't make that happen. So strange. They said they would have the manager/owner call me back with details the next day. It's now been a few days out with no response. So given with the lack of response, only the pizza and salad being good from their large menu and run down restaurant it seems like they don't care about customers or their own restaurant. Had to run to the toilet and have to now stay close to it until further notice. Does this happen to anyone else? Good thing I got it to go and did not eat in the restaurant like I used to. Bummed the delicious table bread did not come with the Marina sauce they used to provide. We also got a chicken wrap to go and that was good without any side effects. But our waitress wouldn't let us leave until we all wrote a review for the restaurant. Before handing us our bill, she asked if we would like to write a review for a free dessert. And after saying no thank you, she paused a few seconds and just asked us again, making the whole situation really awkward. After denying two more times we finally gave in (well,two of us did). 5 minutes later she came back and asked to see what we wrote, bill still clutched in her hand, and after taking the time to fully read each review, she finally gave us our bill. Which makes me wonder, if we had given a negative review, would we still be given our free dessert? Speaking of, we ended up just throwing the dessert away immediately in a trash can outside cause we didn't want it at all lol. I was craving a kind of seafood angelhair pasta and was pleasantly surprised D'Lish is still around! I remember this place when they opened up back in the 90s! It was delicious food back then, and maintained up until now! Service was wonderful and the Chipotle Diablo with shrimp was divine. The entree was under the Homemade menu and loved that places exist that make their own pasta and bread. Speaking of bread, that sold it for me to want to come back here. While waiting for my order the server brought out fresh bread along with some marinara. Drooling thinking about that. So yummy!!! Will definitely be back with more folks to enjoy this dlish restaurant. Back to the Chipotle Diablo entree--it reminded me of this Persian owned Italian restaurant that served a spicy shrimp dish similar to this up in Hawthorne called Hanks.
