There were about seven tables inside and a few other tables outside. There was a soccer game on that others were watching on their TV. The menu seems the same. I ordered the garlic shrimp, chipotle shrimp, and smoked tuna tacos. My husband ordered the seafood, smoked tuna, and chipotle shrimp tacos. All were delicious. My husband said that the seafood was okay. This location is great for a quick bite. I personally like the ambiance at the Bonita location near the Vons to sit down and catch up with friends. I've been here before, but it was my partner's first time trying it. I went with two fish tacos and a shrimp taco, while she got the ceviche, one fish, and one house special. The tacos I had were solid, and the salsa added a great kick that really brought everything together. My partner's fish ceviche was good, but the house special was just alright, she wasn't the biggest fan of the base used in it. I came in to the Chula Vista location around 7:30pm, so playing devils advocate, maybe they were just ready to close, so quality was just Meh. I ordered 3 tacos. A smoked tuna, a shrimp and a fish taco. The smoked tuna was pretty good. The toppings were lacking. That's acceptable with me because they were generous with the smoked tuna. The shrimp taco was just sad. The shrimp were over cooked. They had the consistency of rubber gaskets. And I only received a small amount of those tiny shrimp. The fish taco wasn't that much better. It was a thin strip of fish and the toppings were just mediocre. Maybe they just had an off day? I am a fan of their other locations, I gotta be honest. But this location was lacking. TJ oyster bar has an awesome happy hour menu. The ambience is amazing. I love going in there just to sit and have some tacos. The service is always super friendly. The people are really nice. I always see a neighbor or someone in there because I'm a local and I go here frequently. I absolutely cannot get enough of the shrimp taqueso with the chipotle sauce it is amazing. The regular Baja fish taco is so good. It's always crispy and hot and delicious and the white sauce they put on. It is so good with that red salsa that they have as the house also yummy! Been coming to TJ oyster bar for years. I used to go to the one off Bonita road, and recently started coming to this location 2 years ago. I probably go here every week!! Every time I dine in at this place the service is spectacular!! The food was out in less than 5 mins, and at this location, if it's busy it does not take more than 15 minutes. They do table service so food is brought to you, just make sure you clean up after yourself when finished to help them! I ordered the smoked tuna taco, grilled fish taco, and Seafood Taco and all were 10/10. I highly recommend the seafood taco if you've never had it! It has octopus, scallops and grilled fish. So much flavor if you want the true seafood taco!!! All the tacos taste best with the chipotle sauce they give and a good spritz of like juice. In Sunbow Plaza, there's plenty of parking + shops around. I'vs been to TJ Oyster Bar for years and have recently been frequenting this location because of its easier accessibility. This location is also bigger than the one in Bonita, with plenty of tables and chairs inside and outside. Service is always great and when dining in - they offer limes, sauces, and they have free water cups. My go-to is ALWAYS their fish tacos!! It's so good, crispy, and the chipotle sauce is literally *chef's kiss*. They raised the prices so fish tacos are $3.50 each :,) but they still have their happy hour on weekdays only from 3-6pm where tacos are $2.50 each. read more

I've just discovered this place after 5yrs of living here and passing by it often. We took our kids and had a great time, I haven't had ceviche and fish tacos like this outside of MX. Their normal fish and garlic shrimp tacos are awesome, but if you feel adventurous you gotta try the smoked tuna taco (mind blown!!!). The manager gave me one to try as it's one of his favorites and I order it every time we go there now. The diabla ceviche is my go to on a tostada - hits every time! But the aguas chiles looked really good and will def buy next time we go. My kids don't like seafood much - and we found out they have fries and chicken tenders too (solid for parents). Also, they have good selection of local beers. Staff is always friendly and food has always been a hit. BTW: the music they play rocks! I've ordered the soup today to take out it was so bland I tried to save it with adding more hot sauce. And the soup was just, not even lukewarm. Just barely holding on to the heat. We went to TJ Oyster for lunch. As soon as we walked we were greeted by the cashier. We ordered a michelada to enjoy a Saturday afternoon. We asked for Pacifico but they were out of it. However, they mentioned that they were about restock and asked if we were willing to wait. The pacifico beers arrived shortly after so we didnt have to wait for the miches too long. We also got a couple of glasses of water but the water tasted a little bit weird. The Micheladas hit the spot. We sat outside since it was a really nice day. The Tuna fries were delicious. They Tuna fries have cilantro, onion, sauce and the fries were perfect. The serving portion is large enough to share between two people. The employees came out to check in on us to see if we needed anything. They were very attentive and friendly. This is definitely one if my favorite seafood places in Chula Vista. read more

I have been going to TJ Oyster bar since they opened up the first spot off Dairy Mart Rd. I would say around 2001 We order food frequently. Today we ordered some food to go. When I opened up my bag at home I noticed that the portions of the soup and ceviche tostada were half of what they normally serve you. I called and asked to speak to the owner Ivan and the young lady said he was busy. I explained my concern and she explained that those were their portions. In the pic u can see one tostada a la diabla (full cup) and the second one is the tostada de ceviche. (Half cup) I know for a fact that they always serve a full cup being that I've ordered from there many times. What bothered me the most is that she kept making it seem as if I was being dishonest and she was proving my complain not valid.
