A friend recommended the ACT Group. I was scheduled for an appointment with Dante for last Friday morning. Thursday evening at 4:50 pm ACT left a VM saying it would have to be rescheduled. While very last minute, these things happen and I agreed. My rescheduled appointment was for 11:30 this morning. ACT called at 10:00 am asking to reschedule for later today. I told ACT I wasn't available later and I was left with the impression the meeting was on. Then at 11:00 as I'm walking out the door, ACT called back and suggested that in lieu of a face to face meeting Dante could call me at 11:30. I asked how that was going to work when he didn't have any of my information - I'd planned to bring papers and a flash drive, as discussed. This made me feel very undervalued as a new customer and frankly had no confidence leaving my financial information in the hands of a Group that couldn't even keep an appointment. The only thing positive I can say is that the person who called me each time, Jessica, was very gracious and apologetic. Unfortunately, she is not the accountant. read more

Very nice people, very courteous and knowledgeable but... smartvault is a bit clunky, and $475 for individual state/fed taxes plus a single rental property schedule E is exorbitantly expensive. Not to mention I paid them for tax planning services earlier in 2018 which was not cheap. Anyways, I'll be shopping around before next tax season. read more

Earlier this year, I decided to use The ACT Group to file my taxes, my partners taxes & his parents taxes. In the past, I have used a large CPA firm which did fine, but did not feel I was getting personal attention. In an effort to stay local & support local companies I decided to call ACT. After my initial meeting, felt comfortable and assured to be well taken care of. My taxes were on extension, waiting for some investment returns. Taxes were finally ready, on Oct. 15, deadline day. When contacted that they were ready, I had no opportunity to review, as promised, no meeting to discuss as promised. I was told to "Pay the fee" before they would release them to me. I was shocked & felt cornered that they wanted to charge almost $2000! I had no choice, I had to pay as my taxes were being held hostage. In prior years, my taxes were never more the $500. The other two returns for family members were $250! Very simple returns that should not have been more than $100. I complained about my fee and asked for an explanation. I asked one of the Owners to call me to discuss. No one has called. The Owner had her assistant email me with the receipt & say "sorry". NO explanation, NO phone call, not one word from management. Extremely disappointed and feel cheated & robbed by this overpriced firm. Get a fee upfront before proceeding with these guys or they will rob you blind! read more

If there could be a ZERO star rating here, I'd assign it to these amateurs. I had the unfortunate experience of choosing ACT Group to file my personal and corporate business taxes because I like buying local and live in the neighborhood. BUT beware! If you own a business, you know that changing accountants is very time-consuming, which is the only reason I didn't change in 2009 when they filed the wrong W2 with my personal return. Major headache as I was in the process of buying a house and needed a clean return for closing. They filed an amended return "free of charge", ( I'd certainly expect so!) but no apology at all. So much for "nurturing" a business relationship. Then this year I had an issue with a payroll provider - so since I'd been his client for four years, I called Larry Little for assistance. He extended his apologies, but said that because they don't do my payroll, there was "nothing he could do" for me. He asked if I'd like a referral to an attorney. Given the source, no thanks. A second call to another CPA yielded a very logical website search of the payroll company, a web link to submit a claim, and full documentation to provide to the IRS. In less than 15 minutes. As a relatively new business owner who always used to do my own taxes, I recently found myself in need of a real live accountant. For my business's first tax year I used another accounting firm to be sure I was doing my taxes correctly, but once my taxes were filed and my bill was paid, I never heard from them again. I then met Kevin Kummer, president of the A.C.T. Group, and I decided to work with them for my second year of business. Kevin and his staff were incredibly helpful in educating me about filing estimated taxes quarterly and are very understanding of my very small business and its needs. For example, even though I had turned in my documents late and would need to file an extension anyway, I had a minor freakout on April 14th. The junior tax preparer didn't even know my first name while the senior tax preparer's reputation precedes him at this own firm. This guy threatened to sue me if I wrote a negative review. We had a very bad experience with A.C.T . Here werewhat happen to us/ Condo - 1- Our tax was submit with an extract 0 in the end . Yes, an unbelievable mistake with an accounting firm. We found out as our bank charged us penalty. We contact the firm, they DIDN'T return us the penalty cost due to their mistake and they didn't apologize but only told us that we will get refund form the government. Just image if your company will short cash flow for no reason. 2- They had sent email to someone who is not one of our condo contacts more than once. It is clearly violate NDA and CFA codes. 3- They charged us additional monthly fee by saying we requested additional service WITHOUT communicating with us and automatically deducted from our bank. Just image you have to work with an accounting firm behaves not fairly and transparently. 4- They will not deposit your earning/income in a time manner. We had HOA and rent due on the 5th monthly but they always deposit till end of the month. Overall, it is horrible experience. read more

Last year, I consulted ACT Group because I started a small business and wanted to get guidance for properly filing taxes. I also wanted to support a local business. ACT Group (working with Kevin) was extremely helpful in guiding me through different deductions and making sure I submitted everything necessary.
