This has the feel of a college town restaurant. Seems like a great place for drinks, or to watch a game. Mostly filled with 20-something's, and lots of big TV screens. Because there was no game and we went at around 10 on a weekday, there weren't too many people. They had some nice music and it wasn't too loud. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was very basic sports bar food. The fish and chips was okay, but chicken bites and nachos were both rather spicy. Most everything had a bit of spice, and if you can't handle it, like me, I would not recommend. It felt a bit like bad Chinese food--you feel kind of gross after. The Admiral is located in Dupont circle right by the metro stop. It's a great place for big parties due to the space. There is both indoor and outdoor seating with a couple bars inside for drinks. The overall ambience is that of a modern sports bar. We tried the burger, wings, and brussel sprouts. The food was good but left a little to be desired in terms of flavor. Service was quick although we visited on an early weekday evening. They do have a bottomless brunch that may be worth a re-visit! read more

Hosted our 10 year high school reunion here in the back bar! Such an easy space to book and the team was on top of it. Our time was only booked for 2 hours but folks wanted to continue to be together and the team was so great in accommodating us with another space for later in the evening so we could keep the party going! We held a private party here for around 25-30 people last night and everyone had a great time. The event coordinator did a great job communicating prior and putting the entire food selection/quantities together to keep in the budget. We reserved the Bancroft Bar which is a private room in the back of the venue and it was perfect for the amount of people we had. The bartender was attentive and friendly, the food was also good. The admiral is a good spot for a casual American meal or just drinks. They have a ton of seating indoor and outdoor so it's easy to go here with a big group. The menu is pretty traditional American and bar food. I always get the Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich which is solid, but nothing to write home about. I got Caesar salad as my side for the first time since I wanted something lighter than fries, and was pleasantly surprised, would recommend. I recently reserved space at the Admiral for a birthday party and it was such a great experience! Working with Kelsey, the Event Manager, was so easy and made me confident in my choice of venue. She was responsive, incredibly helpful, and patient when it took me a little bit of time to respond/make a decision. I reserved a portion of the patio and learned a few days before that others also reserved the patio for that day/time so I was a little worried about how it would work, but the patio is huge and it was not a problem whatsoever. We had our own area and did not feel cramped at all. We had three reserved high top tables (combo of long and small) near the bar, which was very convenient. Ryan, the bartender, was also great and very helpful, offering to put out more chairs if we needed and bring tables closer to the reserved area. Granted I have food allergies but they don't even have olive oil! Think about that. A restaurant that doesn't use olive oil at all!.... So basically everything on their menu is frozen food and Costco produce. No olive oil! What?!? And no balsamic vinegar in the house. None! That's absurd! I needed this to substitute their dressing. Also no gluten free bread option. These days, everyone should have a gluten free bread option. Our neighbors got nachos with chicken and I heard the guy saying to his girlfriend "where's the chicken?!??". My salad was supposed to have goat cheese and there was barely any in it. I recently hosted an event at the Admiral for a Graduation Party. We reserved the Back Bar patio (partially) to host 50 people. It was smaller than anticipated and was quite a squeeze with corporate happy hour goers hovering around the bar, but we made it work. One other frustrating part was that it was near the patio/outdoor area so there were workers going in and out of the party space the entire time; they were nice and respectful though. The food we had catered was delicious; many of the guest raved about the cheesesteak and quesadillas. I would recommend this venue again, but probably for a party of 25-40 to fully enjoy the space. read more

The Admiral is a staple and usually a good time. Our waitress was lovely and friendly and we really enjoyed her. The hostess, on the other hand was not so friendly. Our group was large and she was obviously frustrated with our large group and wanted us to move. She quickly became rude and passive aggressive trying to get the group to move...when she could have just been nice and ask us if we were willing and if we could move. Instead she was sharp, unfriendly, and even passive aggressive the whole time. It's amazing how one person can change your entire experience. Better training for staff can certainly help create a better experience for the whole group. read more

I gotta admire the Admiral for doing a great job at serving my table of 8 - everything was brought out with good timing, the servers had good humor (our friend who brought pounds of licorice and wanted everything with a stomach in a 10 mile vicinity to try it - we apologize for and appreciate him). The drinks were a little stronger than I go for, but the guac and the dishes were pretty swell. Perhaps I could have ordered more tacos, but everyone had so many leftovers that portions didn't really matter in the end. I don't know how each person felt about their food, but the chips were delicious and the conversation kept flowing. One thing - we we're lucky to have a friend who asked if we could sit under umbrellas but for other groups that were left to fry their eggs in the sun, it would be nice to have an umbrella solution for them as well. It took longer than usual for our waiter to come to us, but he was super friendly and attentive. We ordered margaritas for drinks and they were delicious; not too strong and not too sweet. I ordered their hot wings to start and a chicken sandwich as my main. The hot wings were really good. It would've been 10/10 if they were fried a little harder, but I still enjoyed the taste and flavor nonetheless. The chicken sandwich was huge and good as well - I had to take mine home. My friends and I had an overall good time when we visited the Admiral for happy hour last week. We all enjoyed the spiked blackberry lemonade pitcher which was just enough for the 3 of us and we were also all pleased by our food. I really enjoyed my sliders, a simple yet delicious meal and each of my friends seemed to enjoy their sandwiches too. The only food that I must critique a tad harshly is the macaroni and cheese. This dish is on the main menu and I was super excited to try it. However, I was not a fan of the flavor and none of us really like too many breadcrumbs on our macaroni and cheese.
