But come wedding day everyone was MIA and not answering their phone except the head gunnery sergeant. The front gate wouldn't let my florists, cake people, and day planner in. Our entire wedding party couldn't even get in because the lady who was supposed to be at the gate with the guest list 2 hours before the wedding, didn't show up til' 1 hour before start time. As a bride and groom getting calls about our people not getting in from everyone, was extremely stressful. If you, your guests, and vendors are not ALL currently in the military or military sponsors DO NOT have your event here especially if you have 100 plus people. My wedding was absolutely beautiful, the food was delish, and everyone had a great time. But the amount of stress we had to go through the DAY OF was unheard of. Get the extra $10k and go have it at oceanfront hotels down the road. It's worth your sanity trust me.

It is a beautifully situated venue that offers the opportunity to have a huge wedding at a reasonable price . They provide the food,tables and chairs , and linens . you will be responsible for decorations, cake, flowers, etc. (They do have a list of vendors) Just be aware that since it's on the grounds of a military base all of your guest must pass a background check which requires them to submit their real ID or passport. This may or may not eliminate some of your guest as they must be US citizens or in possession of a green card. It also provides the opportunity for a lot of misunderstanding at the front gate so tell everyone to come early and be prepared to be patient, just in case the list has not been given to the front gate and things have to be sorted out, has happened in our case. Setting those concerns aside, it really is a beautiful venue and the food was really good. A couple of the servers had bad attitudes, but the management is really accommodating so it kind of all comes out in the wash.If I had to do it again, I'd probably just pay the extra money (about double the price) and book an all inclusive venue to eliminate some of the headaches that we endured, as I did with my younger daughters wedding, but if you have a good wedding planner a lot of problems can be avoided . All in all it was a beautiful wedding and everyone had a great time. So if you want a fabulous wedding at a budget price this is your place

Being around rescued animals and knowing that our event fee was going to support them felt really good and aligned with our values and the Ranch had what we needed. Shera is experienced with doing weddings and knew had to direct them and had recommendations of vendors as well although I brought in my own mostly. This is a unique spot in the San Diego area and it was certainly very affordable at the time given what we got and the prices that things go for in San Diego for a 70 person wedding. The ECS team of event planners are always friendly, helpful and can get even get creative when I am putting an event together. They have huge parking lots, lots of classrooms, and a few larger rooms for banquet style set-ups. They also have a modern, eco-friendly venue called the McMahan House with three "breakout" rooms in addition to the Great Room. The entire facility can comfortably host up to 120 people. While it sits "on campus", it is nestled on a small hill overlooking the University track with a view towards the main campus. They use a variety of outside local food vendors which can assist with different themes, dietary needs and requests. My favorite is Cafe Catering, as they always have great food at a reasonable price. And from sandwiches to pasta bars to mac and cheese, they always seem to do it right. There can be some paperwork that you need to get through for your event, but I am guessing that is to be expected when events are handled in a professional manner. The venue itself is absolutely breathtaking. I could not contain my emotions walking down the aisle in the Grotto--it was the most beautiful setup I have ever seen. The space was perfectly shaded, and our photos turned out stunning. After the Grotto, guests moved on to the bar area and starlit lawn, then under the tent for the reception. The flow between each space was beautifully planned. Not to mention the giant lawn, perfect for sunset photos. Our guests loved every minute of it. The staff were AMAZING! You could tell they knew exactly what they were doing. They checked in with us every step of the way. I tend to get anxious with events like this, but I had zero anxiety on my wedding day--which rarely happens! They took care of everything, from keeping the timing smooth to packing up at the end of the night. A special thank you to our coordinator, Alyssa Dubois. I was the officiant for my friends wedding here. The groom and bride rooms were spacious and really clean. The ceremony under the hanging ferns has got to be one of the prettiest ceremony spaces I've seen. The dinner area that was under the white tent was also very well decorated and spacious. Everyone working was very friendly and helpful. Kind of cool/helpful that they have walkie talkies to converse with each other throughout the venue.

We also loved that the space really provided a blank canvas and we had so much freedom to do whatever we wanted with the space. We brought in live music, churros, our own alcohol, our own caterer, and our own rentals so our vision was really able to come to life!! At first I was nervous about the 10pm cutoff but most outdoor venues in San Diego also comply with this rule and after actually going through a wedding as the bride I was exhausted by 10pm lol! The office manager was very easy to work with throughout the entire process. The vendor recommendations were awesome as well as I found a lot of great people that helped bring the party to life. My wedding had a total of 240 people which made me nervous but we fit comfortably in the space and there was room for more. Overall great experience and great views!
