Stayed here on 2 separate visits to the Winter Park area. This hotel is within walking distance of food and shopping, which is nice. The valet service is very helpful and friendly in each interaction. The beautiful entrance is welcoming when you walk in. It's clean and very spacious with lots of seating. The cafe/bakery to the left of the entrance is nice, with plenty of seating. Check-in was smooth. The room was spacious and clean. The refrigerator was overflowing with ice, which spilled out onto the floor when I opened it; some melted and refreezed. Not sure if it's a good idea to use the ice. So I just walked down to the ice machine and got ice. Housekeeping was on time daily but didn't clean much beyond fixing the bedding and replenishing towels. They didn't even touch certain parts of the room. The same piece of paper remained on the carpet throughout the visit. I know the hotel is affiliated with the college, so you are contributing to a good cause. Room service was a fail all 4 times I tried ordering on both visits, which sucks. When you call the desk, they don't seem to have an answer for why no one picks up. If you use dry cleaning, you have to ask for bags in case you use the laundry service again. If you've used the ones in the room, they don't automatically bring more. I waited until my 2nd visit to see if it would make a difference before writing my review, but it was pretty much the same. This review is based on an event. Atmosphere: the event was in the first meeting room to the right of the lobby, and it is the perfect size for an up to 40-person dinner. The big windows in the back are a huge plus: watching the sunset light fade into the evening during the meal was a highlight. The whole hotel is gorgeous. The contemporary art everywhere gives it a high-end feel that's perfect for business events. Food: the charcuterie buffet was a hit. Everything was set up perfectly and tasted fresh, especially the cheeses (I loved the manchego, it was so soft) and the prosciutto. I was a little less impressed with the mains, though. The risotto felt a bit heavy on the cream and was a little too al dente to my taste. The ribeye was cut and cooked in a way that felt more like pork than steak. Everything else I tried, the asparagus, the salmon, and the salad, was pretty good though. Service: every staff member was super friendly and fast, especially the valet guy. My friends and I stayed at The Alfond Inn in Winter Park, and unfortunately, the experience left us feeling extremely unwelcome. At check in, I watched the front desk attendant warmly greet a white couple, thoroughly explain the hotel, answer questions, joke with them, and give them a complete rundown of everything. When it was my turn, the interaction was completely different. I was asked for my information, briefly told where the room was, and that was essentially it. Nothing was explained, and the tone felt dry, dismissive, and almost as though my presence was an inconvenience. As a Black guest, it was difficult not to notice the sharp difference in treatment. Sometimes you want to enjoy a beautiful or upscale hotel, but the way you are treated can ruin the entire experience. Instead of feeling valued, we felt tolerated. The atmosphere became so uncomfortable that we mostly stayed in the room, made other plans around town, and checked out. The valet also lost my only Tesla key, which will cost me several hundred dollars to replace. That made an already disappointing stay even worse. The only positive part of the experience was the young woman working at the front desk during checkout. I was having stomach issues, and she kindly allowed me a little extra time before leaving. I genuinely appreciated that small act of consideration. Other than that, the stay felt dry, stale, uncomfortable, and unwelcoming. Luxury is not only about the appearance of a building. It is also about how guests are treated. I would rather spend my money somewhere I feel celebrated and respected, not somewhere I feel judged or dismissed because of how I look. I stayed here for a wedding weekend in March. The hotel is very cool and has an artsy and fun vibe with lots of natural light. They have artwork of all types all around. The location is extremely convenient and you don't need a car to wander around the main drag and Rollins campus. The wedding I went to was just downstairs in the event space and they have a beautiful courtyard we could use as well. The only negatives were the toilet seat in our room was completely broken (split in two) and the pool area was not well attended to (no towels when I went and the tables were sticky). The amenities are so nice with full sized products in the bathrooms, bathroom kits, refillable water bottles in your room, a pool and gym, the list goes on. As a local Winter Parker, I love coming to have cocktails or brunch at the Alfond Inn. It's a wonderful atmosphere on the Avenue. I've had several staycations here, spa days, brunch with family and friends and even attended a few weddings here. Great little hotel in Winter Park. Decent rooms. Almost terrific. Great bar with great selection with great service. However, no bar food. None. You can order from the restaurant until 9 but we didn't want a steak dinner. Bar was jammed. People were door dashing in food. Fast food bags didn't help vibe. Huge lost opportunity. We got bags of chips from front desk. Offer sliders, fries, cheese, chips, wings, salsa, etc. People will stay longer and drink more. We also had brunch. There were more servers than guests when we arrived and had to go find a manager to get coffee and to take our order. After that it was fine. However, place filled up. Food was good. Frittata was excellent. Disappointed no lox and bagel on a hotel brunch menu. Overall, I would recommend. Best hotel in the area. A few more touches and they could raise prices. What a wonderful place to work out of for a week visiting my local work studio. Walking distance a ton of shops and restaurants near by. Enjoy the top service and the excellent art throughout the hotel. The bar area has a fireplace, chessboards and a good bar area. Lots of seating throughout to find a spot with people having fun or a quiet nook to read for a while. The rooms have a lot of amenities, even an umbrella for the ones that didn't plan ahead for rain. Oh, and there is a spa! You can visit to enjoy a session or make a spa weekend out of it. I hear that is popular. read more

As someone who books hotels professionally, I can confidently say my experience with The Alfond Inn and it's restaurant The Hamilton Kitchen was the most problematic I have ever encountered. Reservation Difficulties: It consistently took multiple calls to reach anyone capable of making a dining reservation (my party was too large to book online.) Unresponsive Restaurant: The hotel's restaurant, Hamilton's Kitchen, never answers its phone. Administrative Failures: Obtaining a receipt was a days-long ordeal. The front desk made promises but did not act. When I finally reached the appropriate staff member, they were unfamiliar with the process and provided incorrect documents that did not match the charges in question. While the property itself may be beautiful, the customer experience is fundamentally broken. An establishment that makes basic tasks like securing a reservation or getting an accurate receipt so difficult does not merit its 4-star rating. read more

We drove in from Tampa to attend a business function. We arrived at the hotel at 430 for a 6 pm dinner. Our room isn't ready, and they sent us to the lobby to wait. If they hadn't been so rude, it wouldn't be such a big deal. This is supposed to be high-end... it's not. Please read the reviews! They are aloof, and disrespectful. Room service is unresponsive and poor. Best of luck with this place. UPDATE: they comped our stay. They are having massive shortages of staff. It's a lovely hotel and a great place for weddings! Although this beautiful property is under renovations, we have not been bothered or inconvenienced at all for our three day stay. This is a beautiful hotel and transports you to a previous time in Florida. The beds are very comfortable. The rooms are up to date and well appointed. Great shower pressure. This hotel is basically an art gallery! Ever hall, nook and cranny has interesting original art! The Courtyard is peaceful and the gardens are well manicured. I joined some friends at the Alfond Inn for their wine down Wednesday, and it was the cutest thing I've ever been to the place is super chic. They had a live performer who sang very melancholy music. I visited the Alfond Inn for their Wine Down Wednesday event. This was a beautiful space with lots of seating options. The space was elegant and their live musician of the night (saxophone player) was perfect for setting the mood and vibes. The crowd was mixed and you could find some dressy and some casual. Service was top tier, as our waitress checked on us often. As a matter of fact, multiple staff members came to our table to assist in cleaning, serving, and checking in. Was very interested in checking out this lovely hotel, but upon arrival we were given notice that there would be NO AIR CONDITIONING between 6am and 6 pm for repairs. Hello? This is a Florida and the windows in the hotel don't open. Btw - This was in addition to ongoing noisy expansion and renovation. When I mentioned being disappointed at finding out this info at check-in, I got nothing but a big smile from the desk staff. Whether this was a scheduled repair or an emergency, the hotel could have contacted all incoming guests to explain the AC issue and offer some compensation. Maybe $100 credit at bar or restaurant? Maybe the opportunity to cancel reservation free of charge? Something more than a big smile would have been appropriate. So, I'm kind of disappointed in the customer service. This might be why I usually stay at Hilton properties. read more

Ahh the Alfond Inn.. a winter park staple! I have driven past on my way to the office hundreds of times and for the first time had the pleasure of staying overnight. Checking-in had a couple hiccups... beyond that I really enjoyed my brief stay here. The bed was the most comfortable bed I think I've ever slept on - I did not want to leave! I loved the incorporation of art throughout the hotel and thought it was so tastefully decorated and styled. The room felt spacious and the robe included was very nice as well as the plushness of the towels provided. My only complaint would be that the window seemed a little dirty for such a nice hotel, the nice view of lake Osceola was interrupted. read more

Watch credit card receipts as an (overpriced) $100.00 bottle of wine already had a 19% gratuity pre-printed on the receipt (not so that u would notice), w/tax $121. And the gratuity line blank for additional tip which I inadvertently filled in. I should have been more alert but Alton's Inn SHOULD BE MORE TRANSPARENT. Best part was valet parking. It's an absolutely beautiful hotel. I have to admit, I didn't actually stay here. And I didn't actually go to an event here. And I didn't eat at the hotel restaurant.... I was in the area at a museum and one of the museum workers told me about the collection of contemporary art they had throughout the hotel, and how anyone was able to walk around and see the collection. Apparently the Alfond's (namesake of the hotel) were avid art collectors. The works in their collection were donated to Rollins College and are part of the permanent collection of the Cornell Fine Arts Museum. I think they loan back some of the works to the hotel to display. The woman at the prior museum told me that the collection is extensive and is ever changing. When I went there, there were PLENTY of interesting and beautiful pieces to see through the lobby area. They do tours of the collection: "Happy Hour Tours at The Alfond Inn are available on the 1st Wednesday of every month." Unfortunately, I just wasn't there then, but I'd love to take a tour if I was back in the area at the right time! Wish they offered more. So, if you're in the area and are a fan of contemporary art, I'd definitely suggest stopping by. I've taken pictures of just a fraction of the pieces I saw. read more

This review is based off of an event experience. As a local I have not personally stayed the night at the Alfond but this is the second event I have attended and they do events at a high level. Service starts at the parking lot with their valet service and bell man ready to greet you with a smile and a welcome. Flowing directly into the venue space. Instead of being up tight with artwork being reminiscent time piece, The Alfond has partnered with our local college Rollins and features pieces of the students that are true head turners. Elegance carries into the ballrooms offered with white table cloths, full course plate setting, lovely lighting, and white blouse service. What I love the most is that they offer a legitimate vegan option as a dish. Quinoa with vegetables, salad, and a fruit cup for dessert. The good: Great banquet-style food that was served for lunch for a conferenec, everybody else felt the same way. If I were having a wedding here, I'd feel comfortable with them doing the food part for sure as it was tasty. Great location with walkable restaurants etc nearby. Affordable, as I paid $300 or so a night. Valet was fast every time I needed them and helpful in finding change. Gym well equipped and decent size. The bad: Room had ants/bugs crawling around on desk and in bathroom. A lot too. Another thing was that we were unexpectedly told to move at 8 am and that we needed to be out by mid-day. That is ridiculous and not enough time. Overall, I would stay here again given the good and I will hope the bad does not happen again! read more

We've stayed here a few times, this week the most recent. The property is pretty. The room we stayed in was okay...sadly it was damp and all our clothes became damp...the beds were the worst ...obviously these mattresses have been highly used, my daughter and I got a double queen room, both beds were so worn out, lumpy and saggy, we didn't get a good or much rest, not to mention the rotor rooter type noise before 7a and the lawn mowers promptly at 8 am. All could be gotten over for the $500 a night if the beds would've been decent. read more

This hotel is truly a work of art! Located steps away from Park Avenue in Winter Park, this is a wonderful place to stay. If you are an art lover, even better, as they have pieces from The Cornell Fine Arts museum at Rollins College. I am by no means an art buff, but I was definitely impressed with how they had so many beautiful pieces just out in the open as part of the hotel experience. They made for lots of oooos and ahhhhs and some amazing photos, too. This hotel manages to keep the charm of a boutique hotel while providing guests with the air of luxury you'd expect from a high-end hotel group. The rooms were quite large and super clean. The beds were also extremely comfortable. The first night we arrived (Tuesday) they had a complimentary happy hour featuring William Hill wines and snacks in the lobby. It was a chilly night, so being able to enjoy a cabernet by the fire pits outside was wonderful. They also offer complimentary coffee in the mornings downstairs. Last but not least if you're a sunset junkie like myself - their pool deck is a beautiful spot to enjoy the sunset. It's a shame we didn't have more time in the hotel, as we spent lots of it up and down park avenue as well as at the Magic Kingdom. I feel like one could get lost exploring all the beautiful artwork that the Alfond has to offer, as well as all the great seating areas to enjoy a coffee, a book, or just some "me time". read more

This is a great place for conferences, or even just a business lunch. The whole place exudes tranquility and the staff is first rate.

Sad to say that I was not impressed with The Alfond Inn. We stayed there the night before my best friends wedding. The check-in process was fine other than the front desk clerk being a little too chatty when all we wanted to do was get to our room. The room was not impressive at all. We had a suite with a kitchen--refrigerator, sink, cabinets, nice countertops. However, there were zero kitchen items in the actual kitchen. Glasses? Nope. Silverware? Nope. Hand towels? Nope. Paper towels? Nope. The cabinets were literally empty. Why have cabinets with nothing in them? It was really ridiculous. In the bathroom, there was a little vanity set with toiletries. However, a couple boxes were empty. Not that I needed them, but maybe those should have been refilled? In the evening, we had called down for sheets for the pull out couch. 40 minutes passed, no sheets. Called again, said room service or whatever would be right up. 30 minutes later, still no sheets. At this point it was 11:00pm. I went down to the front desk in my pajamas to get them myself but was told they didn't have any up front and that the attendant again would "be right up". Thankfully he showed up not 10 minutes later. I would not have been surprised by this if it was a huge resort with 20+ buildings as I know it takes awhile. But this is an INN, it's one building. Then, in the morning, they wanted to refuse us late check out even though we had requested it at check in. So, overall, definitely not impressed with the amenities in the room and definitely not impressed with the service at the Alfond. read more

I'm not sure how this inn plans to expand when it can barely maintain the current rooms at a decent level of cleanliness. If I were only rating this hotel for the ambiance of the lobby, restaurant, and patio, it would be 5 stars for sure. Unfortunately, the rooms are dirty and dated, and need some serious TLC. The mattresses are well worn. The light fixtures are dusty. The carpets feel grimy under your bare feet. I can confirm that the pool, while beautiful, is very cold. If you don't plan to spend much time in your room, enjoy art, and are fine with paying extra money for breakfast, you might have an okay experience here. I personally have had better experiences at more affordable hotels. read more
