This is a beautiful and historic hotel on Park Plaza. This year, it's 103 years old! I didn't stay, but I've passed by a good number of times and decided to check out the lobby for kicks and giggles. The lobby is stunning! It has an old vintage feel with Genuine Tiffany lamps and old wood work leading to the second floor where the rooms are situated. We stayed at the Park Plaza Hotel for my friend's bachelorette. While the overall vibe is a bit outdated, the location truly can't be beat, it's right in the heart of everything and perfect if you don't want to worry about driving anywhere. We were really happy with how convenient it was. We used a sound machine, so noise wasn't an issue. Our room had a balcony, which was a nice touch, but the only downside is that the balconies are open and you're seated right next to your neighbor. Adding some shrubbery or privacy dividers would make a big difference. Overall, great experience but will emphasize that's mainly due to location. read more

This is the most charming hotel on the most charming street in Winter Park Florida. I try to include an overnight stay there whenever I go to Florida. You must get a room on the balcony overlooking the park and Park Ave so you can have your coffee and watch all the dogs walk by in the morning. Or a glass of wine in the evening and watch everyone going in and out of the plethora of restaurants on the avenue. The rooms are not soundproofed. There is a train that goes by on occasion. There is an antique elevator with brass bars that you will pull shut. There is one flight of wide stairs. But non of that matters. Because the staff is absolutely lovely, helpful and if you relax in the charming lobby for coffee long enough, you will feel like part of the family!! If you are looking for a cookie cutter hotel keep going this is not for you. But if you want original oil paintings on the walls, wrap around balconies with huge Boston ferns and a special time that will live in yourthen stay and put your feet up! read more

Well, this is a tough one to rate as our experience had big highs (worthy of a 5 rating) and lows (worthy of 1 or 2). With location being most critical, we chose Park Plaza and loved how accessible eating and shopping were. It's in a perfect spot for that! Other highs include the charm of the lobby, the art, the pillows/sheets/linens, 2 super friendly ladies on the day staff, and the ease of valet with Grey. The lows include the super tiny bathroom (which we learned is the same in every room as they were added at some point in its 100+ yr history). While we did not hear neighbors, we did hear the train and appreciated the white noise machine minimizing the disruption. Outside of those mentioned earlier, the other staff we encountered were unfriendly and didn't make us feel welcomed. We were also surprised to see the room being so small and a skinny second bed, expecting at least 2 full beds. So, while we made the best of this quick stay and have many fond memories from it, we will likely choose another place to stay next time. read more

Love the open door balcony made me feel like I was at a different time 50's maybe -streets were alive people walking dinning shopping just a great place to stay. This hotel thinks that just because you book a room on a non-refundable rate that it means that they should be okay with accepting black mold that shoots out of your AC unit that is right over your head onto your pillows. They also think that it is okay to lie about the unit being brand new, when it is clearly very old. They also think that it's okay to lie about accommodating me by switching me to another room when they told me they were fully booked and couldn't accommodate me. When I continued to push and told them I couldn't stay there and breathe that in, they then told me they would move someone else into the room that I was requesting to be removed from. I reiterated that they told me they were fully booked so how is that possible?! "Oh we will just put someone else in that room who hasn't checked in yet" is what I was told. I told them I didn't feel comfortable with them putting some other innocent guest in a room that clearly has health hazards. Clearly they do not care about the health and safety of their guests, nor do they care about morals or ethics. Do not stay here. The hotel reeks of mold and nut from the second you walk in the door, so it was no surprise that I found plenty of it in my room. read more

Horrendous hotel with horrendous management. We received a confirmation for our reservation and showed up after flying in, only to be told our room had been canceled with zero notification. The front desk had no explanation and no record showing why it happened, yet the manager repeatedly suggested it must somehow be our fault. After far too much back and forth, they finally agreed to book us at a different hotel miles away from the rest of our group, completely disrupting our plans. The lack of accountability, the dismissive attitude, and the refusal to acknowledge their own mistake made this one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. This hotel is charming and 102 years old. It is an excellent location, you can walk everywhere to great restaurants, wine bars and shopping. The staff is there at your service no matter what you needs are. Keep in mind it is 102 years old. The floors are a little crooked, the bathroom is tiny, the tub is extremely slippery. You will not find updated amenities by any means, yet the bed is extremely comfortable and it is quiet. Never once did we hear a train! The balcony needs a good scrubbing , although sitting out there with a glass of wine while it is raining is very pleasant. I actually miss being there. We highly recommend staying here. read more

From my experience, prospective visitors should be warned that this place has no merit except for its location and archiectural history. I requested a "nice view" but got a terrible roof view. The rooms are impossibly small. Suitcases have to be used from the floor. The bathroom is barely functional. The walls are thin. Neither of us could use toilet properly due to insufficient knee room. There's no place to stash toiletries when using the bathroom tub and sink. There's only one lamp so one side of the bed is dark. The TV is a 25-year-old joke. TV channels did not even include CNN or MSNOW, among the most popular in the US. . We were warned by the desk clerk against parking on the streets overnight, only to learn that there is a huge free public parking garage just one plock away. My wife wanted to leave. Checked out at 1AM Due to Excessive Noise Our overnight stay started out nicely. The daytime staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is lovely. The free earplugs over on the wine "mini bar" should have clued me in. Later on in the evening , the loud music from the Bovine restaurant underneath our room started and never stopped. Between that, loud guests in the hallway and street noise, I ended up cramming those earplugs into my ears and drifted off to sleep. Great location and the staff is professional and very nice. But that does not help the condition of the rooms. Internet is almost non-existent. The rooms are so old and lacking in basic accommodations and the bed was not comfortable it the location and staff can't overcome the basics. Put in a couple more tables, nightstands, and something to put items on instead of the floor. It wouldn't take that much to make the rooms acceptable. A good cleaning would help also. My wife thought it had "character". The place is filthy! Just gross and nasty! We had dead bugs on the night stands, on the lamp shades, in the tub and suspect hairs everywhere. F this place. Beware booking a standard room at the Park Plaza Hotel in Winter Park, Fl. Although the beds are comfortable, and the towels are impeccably clean, there are absolutely NO Amenities, not even a clock, and I had to ask for soap. There isn't enough lighting. There are only pegs in the dingy closet in which to hang your clothing and there are no hangers. You have to search for outlets in which to plug your devices. I've stayed there twice and it'll be the last time. If you're on the toilet your knees will bang up against the bathtub. There are no ice or vending machines of any kind. You have to ask for water. I truly never take the time to write a bad review because I always try to give grace, but this hotel is absolutely filthy. The carpet in the hallway has not been vacuumed in months. The floor in our room was sticky; it gave me college flashbacks to frat house floors. The bathrooms are atrocious; toilet seat is stained, cracked sink, tiles are filthy. There were leaves all throughout our room. The walls are paper thin. Upon arrival, they give you ear plugs- you can hear every step and every word of the people around you. We were here for a wedding and the people staying next to us had a squirrel in their room and another friend's shower head fell completely off. The hotel leaves a lot to be desired which is truly unfortunate because the location cannot be matched. Overall, we enjoyed our trip to Winter Park. Our only regret is having booked this hotel. The room was filthy. Housekeeping must only do the bare minimum to give the appearance of a clean, comfortable room. Dirt, dust and debris all over the floors/corners of room. The bathroom had whiskers and hair on ledges around the sink and the floor was dirty. Had we noticed this when dropping off our bags before heading out for the afternoon/evening, I would have asked to be moved or to check out. I had read somewhere, perhaps on a 3rd party site as I can't find it on their site right now, that the hotel was non-smoking but that's apparently not the case. No signs anywhere that I could see and unfortunately, a chain smoker prevented us from using the balcony that evening and the next morning as much as we would have liked. The continental breakfast was nice and the staff we encountered throughout our stay were very friendly. I did make note to the staff upon checkout that the room needed a deep cleaning and followed up with an email to which I never got a response. I didn't expect/ask for credit, it just would have been nice if they had acknowledged. The room was $260 with tax. $26 or $260, there is no excuse for the condition of the room. read more

This hotel was a disaster. My friend and I spent 3 nights so we really gave it a chance. The room was dark and the louvers didn't work to admit daylight. When I asked for another lamp I was told that management "likes it this way". The bathroom had only one small shelf (maybe 3 X15 inches), the paint was peeling and there is no grab bar in the tub/shower. We had requested 2 beds but were told that wasn't available but there was a sofa bed. However, when the sofa bed was open, there was only about 6 inches between it and the wall so it was difficult to get to the bathroom. I ended up closing the sofa bed and sleeping on a mattress from a cot on the floor in front of the sofa. I will never stay here again. read more

Ok so ... I loved this hotel - I'm a Brit originally so it reminded me of the faded hotels/b&bs from Europe complete with bahamas shutters, a cramped bathroom and creaky floors! If you stayed in a hotel like this in Paris you would be oh so happy. Somehow it feels like an anomaly in the US. Which should be good. And it was good for me. Really good. Yes tons of character. But if you want bright lights and a roomy bathroom and brand spanking new everything then go to a Hilton or whatever. Our roomy room had a balcony packed with character (wicker furniture and plants cascading). And then the modern touches - a mini split for cooling - brilliant - a fan with a remote control - a super comfy bed with fabulous white linens. Oh and a tray of really good wines! The manager couldn't have been more unpleasant. I didn't feel welcomed. On the contrary - he was rude and cursory. We asked for the wi-fi password and he threw down a sheet of paper. That password didn't work neither did the one in the hotel book in our room so we went down for help. He got annoyed and scribbled the (apparently new) password on a piece of paper. We couldn't get it to work no matter how we typed it. So we went back and he started shouting at us basically calling us stupid for getting it wrong. We shouted back that his writing was open to interpretation that it wasn't clear whether some of his letters were upper or lower case. He got so angry he threatened to throw us out of the hotel. We asked about his position and he shouted that he was the manager and the CEO and the chair of the Board. I have only had this experience once before - at a hotel in the UK. In the UK customer service isn't a thing so his behaviour made me wonder about his nationality. We were only there a night and ghosted the front desk for the rest of our stay. The location is brilliant - downtown Winter Park - the valet was super helpful and welcoming. He took care of our car and we happily walked everywhere. read more

We pass through Winter Park to visit family. We found this hotel and so glad we did. It's old and charming. Our room was clean and the staff members were warm and welcoming. The location is ideal. It might be a bit pricey but the location is awesome. We arrived late afternoon on a Sunday afternoon with the Coronavirus in full swing. There is valet parking at the door and the kid who is valet and bellboy couldn't be nicer. The room was small and cozy and bathroom was very tiny and when sitting on the toilet your knees could touch the tub. They appear to be doing some renovations .They provide ear plugs which kind of made me nervous and the railroad track is not very far. But we were only starting one night so I figured we could survive. The bed was comfortable and the train really wasn't bad The creaking floor was louder and the toilet flush was intense. Shower pressure was good and we really did enjoy our stay. In the morning you call down for your coffee or tea, juice,and warm croissants which are brought up to your room soon after. I wish I had read Yelp! before booking. This hotel was beyond disappointing. At one time, I'm sure it was beautiful. But now, it's just run down and filthy. The person checking us in couldn't be bothered to stand up and greet us. It was just a gruff "Name?!" as we approached the counter. We got up to the room and were shocked. There were stains on the wall beneath the AC. The table between the chairs was missing. The chair cushion was flipped (back zippered edge was showing) due to stains. The decorative, supposed to be white, pillow in the bed really needed a wash. The rugs were matted and my feet were dirty after walking in there barefoot. The furniture was beat up and chipped. The bed was super uncomfortable...very stiff. And, if you're a light sleeper you'll want to use the earplugs as you can hear EVERYTHING outside including the constant chirping of car door locks beginning around 7am. This place could really be something very special with some TLC. Definitely not worth the $350+ I paid. So sad. read more

Beautiful place to visit, not sure I could actually stay a night. A friend of mine was the one staying, and he shared with me a look into his sleeping quarters. This hotel is quaint, vintage and well.. OLD. The floors creak, the walls are thin, the wood is dark and the hallways are narrow. The stair case is grand and that elevator is to die for. His room was 217, an adjoining room to which we could hear the conversation in the next room and are sure his neighbors could hear us, which amuses me. The bed was comfortable, there was only one chair so one of us had to sit there. The bathroom had a small step down into which caused us to trip if we went into it. The TV provided was the size of a computer monitor, and the AC, though you were given a controller for it, didn't go below 75* which made the room unconfortably humid. A very active train line runs behind the hotel, and from 10:30 to 3:00 am stops on the hour and blows its horn, making it not conducive to sleeping well. All in all, a pretty place, friendly team, but I'm not sure that I could sleep there. read more

Loved this historic boutique hotel. Stayed for 2 nights while in town for a wedding. We had a front balcony suite. Room 200. It was a huge room with a 4 poster king bed, sitting area and balcony looking over Park Ave. Yes the wood floors creek. Yes the bathrooms are tiny. Yes the furniture dated. Yes you hear the train and street noise..... But what a charming place! Bed was VERY comfortable, staff very friendly and location can't be beat. You are right on Park Ave with shopping, dining and the pretty green park. Once we got there we never used our car until it was time to leave. This hotel would be a dream for anyone who enjoys quaint bed and breakfasts, historic architecture and old timey customer service. I absolutely loved staying here! The staff was wonderful from the moment I checked in! I arrived earlier than check in time and they immediately took and stored my bags, offered me hot coffee and called me when my room was ready. Once I returned to get into my room a lovely gentleman was there to carry my bags to my room, show me how the AC worked and where/when to get my breakfast. The other reviews do point out the only downside (in my opinion)- the train! It is very loud and seems to come often. I'm a heavy sleeper so it wouldn't deter me from staying here but I could see how it would keep others away. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this hotel! The bed was comfy, the aesthetics were beautiful and it was perfectly convenient for my trip. The hand delivered tray of coffee in the morning was the cherry on top! read more

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!! I wish I had read the reviews before booking here. The staff is super nice and the location is great. Other than that, I can't believe this place is still in business. No hot water, broken AC and paper-thin walls were the start of it. Then, the trains started coming. It's hard to describe just how loud it is. The room would shake and rattle as if you were in an earthquake. But the horn. Once it gets late and dark, the train horn kicks in. Think rock concert level volume. I thought the trains would stop running but they kept coming every 15-20 mins straight through to about 3am. Overall, I'd put this in one of the two worst hotel experiences I've ever had. read more

I always read the reviews before writing one, and I am frequently amazed at some of them. The Park Plaza reviews are no exception. First, let me say, that I loved this place! Yes, it's quirky, has actual keys instead of key cards, tiny little bathrooms, and small TV's, but so what! I don't believe the guy who said in his review that the maintenance guy said the AC in his room had been broken for a week and everyone knew. I think he made that up! I stayed here 5 nights and had an excellent experience. Everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - was friendly. You walk down the hall, pass a member of the housekeeping staff, and get a smile and a polite greeting. The desk staff was great, the man who seemed to be the jack-of-all-trades was nice. Everyone stopped, answered questions, made suggestions, and helped any way they could. I would stay here in a heartbeat over one of those cookie-cutter chain hotels. My only complaint was with some of the other guests who thought 1:30 on a Sunday morning was a good time to carry on a loud discussion in the hallway, then, when asked by hotel staff to keep it down because people are sleeping, ignore them and continue for more than 10 minutes!
