I just want to start out by saying that the food is good. The waffles are delicious and there aren't too many places around that make them in that style. However, this place is sneaky about prices. Firstly, They do not list prices on the menu, and after seeing my receipt, I understand why. If you want to add mixed berries to your waffle, they charge you $1.75 per type of berry. I ordered a black tea with a splash of milk, and they charged me the price of a tea latte. They also refuse to give tap water, and make you pay for bottled water- a practice that rubs me the wrong way. It cost nearly $50 for two people to eat breakfast here. We finally got to check out Zinneken's and it did not disappoint! The café is super clean, cute, and cozy with such a great vibe. The staff are sweet, friendly, and so helpful, especially for first-timers. The waffles are incredible. There are so many options to choose from, so good luck deciding! I had the Berries Insanity fruit-topped waffle and the fruit was honestly the freshest I've ever had. My husband opted for the Gourmand waffle (a Bananas Foster vibe). He opted for a Liège waffle (chewy) and I went with the Brussels waffle (crispier) and both were amazing. Drinks are just as good, from coffee and espresso to tea, matcha, or juice. Still great waffles, seems to be slipping on quality Came here because I was in the mood for waffles and this is my go-to spot. Server was nice but the place was weirdly quiet for a Sunday morning. I ordered the recommended waffle and latte. Got my waffle relatively quickly and dug in. Waffle was still really good, but the batter was a little overworked. Wasn't as airy or soft in the middle as other times I've been. Toppings were mostly good, the whipped cream was not made fresh and tastes out of a can. A little too sweet and not as creamy. The latte was weak, pretty much was straight up milk with little coffee flavor. It still worked but was lacking. Overall, kind of a letdown. It seems like they are starting to cut corners and the result is translating to their end product. It's still a good waffle, but I feel like it's starting to slide a little on its quality. My wife and I have been talking about checking this place out and we finally made it. Zinneken's did not disappoint us. The home fries are wonderful and shouldn't be overlooked. However, the star of the show will always be the waffles. We ordered the Manneken Pi's, my wife had her's with turkey bacon and I had bacon. So delicious and delightful. I also ordered the Sin, Nutella and banana, and OMG my life is changed. Finally, the coffee selection is on point. I checked out Zinneken's in June after a girls' night at a friend's house nearby based on their recommendation. The cafe itself is small with few tables and not much seating--don't expect to bring a large group here. It also took a long time to place our orders, even though there weren't many people in line in front of us. There is a menu board on the wall and there are laminated menus to peruse in line while waiting, but they weren't handed down to us. After all that, ordering at the register was easy and staff were friendly. We were given a number for our table and waited for our food to be brought to us. I had the affogato and liege waffle with strawberries, Nutella, and whipped cream, with a side of bacon. It seemed a bit pricey but the waffle was delicious. The affogato was messy, but a delightful treat. There is a limit on how long you can stay (though the place was nearly empty by the time we left, so they didn't enforce this). I would return if I were in the area, but I don't think I'd make a special trip from home, given it's nearly an hour away. read more

Anything with cookie butter is right up my alley. To eat, I got the Zinneken breakfast plate and a cookie butter waffle. The breakfast plate was good but the star of the show was the waffle! I came on a Saturday at 12:30 and there were a few tables open and plenty of parking spots available. I ended up getting a liege waffle with strawberry, banana, chocolate, and whipped cream along with Japanese detox tea. The waffle was delicious! I loved the flavor and texture. Although, it definitely is on the smaller side so if you're hungry you'll need to order sides to make it a full meal. I also enjoyed the tea. Don't believe the hype! I was looking forward to trying this place, because I love Liège waffles, and the coffee menu looked pretty great . If you are not familiar with Liège style waffles, they are made from dough instead of batter. They are supposed to be crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. These were not that. These were pale, soft, limp waffles that were raw dough on the inside. When the server asked me how they were, I was honest with her, and she told me that they turn out differently every time they make them. As if I don't know what raw flour tastes like or know the waffle is not supposed to be gummy, raw dough inside. It also had a weird taste like from a mix instead of from scratch. She offered to have them make me a "crispy" one. I was seriously just going to let it go, not make them remake it and leave. I'm not the person who seeks a refund, I am the person who just doesn't come back. I let her go ahead and have them make it "crispy." I knew this would not fix the weird flavor, but at least I would have more to eat than eggs and bacon for $20. 15 minutes later, she returned with a waffle exactly like the first one. She stopped using the word "crispy" and said, " I had them remake your waffle. Hopefully you can like this one." I cut the pale, soft, limp waffle open, and there was raw dough in the center. I asked my dining partner (who finished her food 10 minutes ago) if we could please just leave (she had been pushing me to seek a refund). She agreed, and we left, and I will mourn the loss of my $20, but it was not worth seeking a refund when I had eaten the eggs (eggs that never saw a grain of salt in their lives but were cooked to the proper temp) and bacon (boring and bland but cooked exactly how I ordered), and I was certainly not going to be interested in a coupon for future use, because I will not be going back. The server was very nice, and the place was very clean. The espresso macchiato was also a huge letdown. Typically, this would be espresso with a little foam on top. What I received tasted more like boring, drip coffee with a little foam on top. If that was espresso, someone either does not know how to pull shots, or they are seriously watering their espresso shots down. I really wanted to like this place, especially with how sweet the woman working there was, but this was a huge waste of time and money. I will never go back. Useful tip: liege waffles are available on weekdays. Brussels waffles are available weekends (Brussels waffles are commonly what are served as Belgian waffles in many diners). If I could give this establishment if I could call an establishment, one star I would. Lady that greets you at counter is extremely rude, rolls her eyes if you take more than a second to figure out what you'd like to order. Then she lets out a big puff of a sign like you are wasting HER time when she's the one that decided to buy a franchise that she hates. I've been there several times and each time I've been there they've been something that they did wrong but most of all the lady at the front counter who has a southern twang is very rude . I think she's the owner, but she pretends to not own the place. The first couple times we went they made our eggs wrong. We had said to make them well done and they came out runny. We ate them and didn't say anything because of how they treated us when we walked in. They have a sign there that says don't stay too long, which is really a weird sign to have in a place which is supposed to serve you and you're supposed to enjoy eating their food. The last time we went, I asked for a water and she said I had to give her almost 3 dollars for a bottle of water and that she wouldn't give me tapwater. Everyone in the whole place heard her say that and they all looked around like what kind of places is this that doesn't give a customer who's paid $40 for breakfast a glass of tapwater. Don't go here it's a waste of money. The food is not good. There's only one chef and they never make the eggs the way you want it . The waffles are nothing great and apparently they also have decided that they don't give their customers water. I have already told many people about this place and about the water incident. They were all shocked. They actually thanked me for warning them about the place. The coffee I have had there is terrible. The cappuccino is made with coffee instead of espresso and there is barely any foam on top. This place needs to be shut down . read more

Looking over the menu, I couldn't think of the past time I'd had a savory waffle (possibly never?) and decided to try the zinne benne, which is a liegé waffle with 2 poached eggs, homefries, hollandaise sauce, chives, paprika and your choice of meat. Out came a waffle with two sausage patties each of which was topped with a textbook poached egg and generous coat of sauce on each of those. The portion was surprisingly substantial. Only the home fries were somewhat run of the mill. Great little spot to meet for breakfast that I will definitely return to. Say goodbye to Eggo waffles because there's no going back after this one. Or at least if you go back you'll be very disappointed. Unless you're a very happy person of course. Whatever floats your boat. I know I just can't eat any other waffles for at least a few months after eating Zinneken's. Just know that Zinnekens set my new standard for waffles. This also means that if you ever have a bad waffle, this is the place you visit to make up for that bad experience. Upon walking in, you're hit with a very "pretty" and clean interior. Seating is just fine with some window benches that will have your knees rubbing against the low tables but anything for these waffles. During my first visit, I was provided with plenty of reccomendations and explanations. Glad I listened to everyone because I loved everything that came out of the kitchen I have tried a couple of their waffles to include the Chocolate Liege Waffle and the Strawberry Glamour w/extra raspberries. Their Liege Waffles are to die for. You'll also feel like you're gonna die from a sugar overdose afterwards but if I were to go down like that, I would be just fine. The Berries Insanity was soft, chewy and topped with bright red berries. This amazing Chocolate sauce was drizzled over it and one of the best whipped creams I've ever had was waiting for me beside my waffle. The Chocolate Waffle provided the same amazing experience minus the Berries. No fruit to save your health, you're purely indulging at this point. Waffle heaven. Good waffles come here after they die. To go with my already sweet and heavy waffle, I got their special Belgian Speculoos Latte. Very sweet and well made of course. If you're into the sugar it's the perfect latte but if you need something to counter it, I reccomend a simple cappuccino like I did during my second visit. Well you'll only need one waffle, hopefully, as they were very filling which also keeps the price down low which is nice. The service was quick, very friendly and knowledgeable like I mentioned earlier. In conclusion, this is the only place I would come for waffles, unless I wanted it with meat of course. Belgian Liege Waffles from Zinneken's are the only way to go fir me if i choose the sweet route for breakfast. At this point, I'll be coming here on a weekly basis. They're that good. read more

The decor here is really cute and the restaurant itself is clean. Lots of parking available. It can get really busy on the weekends so expect a wait for a table or your order if you come on a weekend or have a big group. Waffles tasted great, were a little small for the price. I came here for breakfast with my brother and niece on a busy Sunday morning. The place itself is cute, but very small. I was unaware that the establishment had a first-come first-serve basis in regard to dining in. After I ordered and paid for my meal, snagging a table was really cutthroat. After finally sitting, some of the waiting staff seemed to not really have any hustle. One of the waitresses handed me the wrong beverage and seemed a little confused when I pointed out the mistake. We ordered meals to go for other family members and I noticed it was all set for us to grab, but the staff seemed to just let it hang out in the back for some time. My brother had to take the initiative to approach a staff member to get it, even though he was instructed to wait in front and would be told when it was ready - it seemed it was just neglected. The food was pretty good though - I ordered the Gourmand with speculoos, a side of home fries, and sausage. I can't be more happy that this popular Cambridge waffle truck opened so close to me. I would travel to NYC (waffles and dingies) just for a bit of that chewy liege coz you won't find an authentic one anywhere in the vicinity. What the heck I was even willing to travel to Belgium if I had to. You can get both liege or Brussels waffles here. Belgian waffles have deeper pockets better for holding syrup and definitely more fluffy. The Brussels waffles are a more familiar kind, closer to the regular American waffles. You can't go wrong with either pick. I say get them both....Lov'em!! Don't be fooled by the size ... they maybe small but they are very filling. Apparently the owner, Nhon, has roots with both his parents owning a world-renowned restaurant in Belgium, while his mother being the only female Asian chef to attain the coveted Michelin Star Award. Nhon did well learning and tasting the waffles baked by his mom and let us experience the yummy, crispy yet chewey Belgian waffle. Menu has the Brussels waffle, which is light and crispy made from a delicate batter and their signature waffle, the Belgian Sugar waffle (aka Liège waffle), made from a dense dough encrusted with imported pearl sugar from Belgium. We got 2 Liege and one Brussels waffle which are baked right in front of you and then topped with your choice of various toppings which include fruits, chocolate, nutella and others. We went with the raspberry and blueberry on one, nutealla on one and plain on the other. If you like lot of toppings, go with strawberry and banana as the customers across us got that and they were loaded. I love waffles! I was excited to find out about this cute little waffle place in Glastonbury. The interior was beautiful and the staff was friendly. We ordered two waffles, one Brussels waffle with Nutella and whipped cream and one liege waffle with maple syrup. The Brussels waffle was light and airy, almost melting in your mouth. The taste was nice, if I had known it was that light I would have added banana or strawberry to make it more of a meal. The liege waffle was aaaamazing. It's more dense than the Brussels waffle, and it had almost a French toasty feel to it. It was one of the top 3 waffles I've had. I would definitely recommend it. We paid over $14 for the two waffles plus a tip was just over $15. It was pricey, a little too expensive to make this a place I go to frequently, probably more of a once or twice a year visit. When I heard a waffle shop was opening in Glastonbury, I was pretty excited! I love a good waffle and Zinnekens delivers. This was my third visit and each time, the waffle has been delicious, served warm and beautifully presented. I've had the strawberry glamour option #5, twice on a liege and brussels and a simple plain liege another time to enjoy the flavor on its own. My preference is the brussels and I was disappointed to learn that option is now only served on weekends. Zinnekens is going through a transition in town having opened at the start of the pandemic and still looking for the popularity it enjoys in Cambridge. It is tucked away in a small strip mall without much visibility. My friend and I were the only two patrons on a Thursday AM but while we chatted, there was a steady stream of customers. If Zinnekens were located in a touristy town , I think it would do much better. It is not inexpensive ; my #5 strawberry glamour was $8.20. There was an up charge for iced coffee which is interesting since there's so much ice, I'm sure the quantity is much less than a hot version. That being said, it's a great spot to meet a friend but it wouldn't be a regular option for me.
