I have been taking my dog Chewy to The Animal Keeper for about two years. They are absolutely fantastic! The facility and grounds are spotless and the staff is amazing. They are very friendly and accommodating. Tom is always very attentive and caring and quickly addresses any concerns. Chewy loves the staff, especially Paige and Tom. We have recently moved and we definitely miss The Animal Keeper in Poway. I have not been able to find a daycare that comes close to the professionalism and caring that The Animal Keeper provides. We have been boarding our adult "kitten" with Animal Keeper, Poway, for several years. Our experience has always been good, with courteous front desk staff and safe, competent care for our kitten. Our kitten is purely an indoor cat, residing with two senior citizens, so she's used to relative quiet, few strangers, and her set routine. When we pick her up, though, she takes very little time to settle back into her home routine, telling us, by her behavior and a short "discussion" with us, that although we shouldn't go away and leave her, it wasn't too bad after all! LOL. We feel she is safe and well cared for at Animal Keeper. We recommend them highly. read more

On our first visit to the animal keeper, we had an excellent experience. They were able to take our Yellow Lab with a few hours notice. We are really happy with Animal Keeper. My both huskies love going there and they come home exhausted. It's a great place because they get to play with all the other dogs for the majority of the day then they get a spot to rest. I used to go to Hellen Woodward and I just don't like there, they charge you an arm and a leg for the pups to play otherwise they're locked up for the day. read more

After having a not-so-pleasant experience with the groomer at Snug, I quickly went back to Animal Keeper to rectify the mistake! I am always greeted kindly and my female is always treated VERY well! We've been taking our dog, Savannah, to Animal Keeper for a couple years now and she absolutely loves it. It's so easy dropping off/picking her up from day care and everyone knows her. She comes home completely exhausted but always excited to go back the next day. The staff is so friendly and they really care for and love Savannah. Wish I read the yelp reviews before leaving my do here overnight but my sister leaves her dog here and she recommended it.... I should have walked out when I was checking my dog in and they couldn't find the dog of another customer picking her dog up. Eventually they found the dog and said they had a lot of dogs checked in with the same name. Sounded reasonable enough so it didn't raise a red flag yet. My issue came up after I picked my dog up and drove 2 hours home and found out they never gave me my food back. I called the office right away and left a message with my name, phone number and a request for them to call me back. Since it was a Sunday night and I don't feed my dog generic food I had a hard time finding a place open that carries his food. When I did get to feed him he ate like he hadn't eaten in two days! In short my two biggest issues are 1. I'm pretty sure the didn't feed my dog after charging me for it and 2. Its been a week and I still have not received a call back. *Tip: there is a pet smart with pet hotel in Encinitas off the 15 that has a friendly helpful/competent staff with very reasonable rates. read more

We dropped off our dog for the day. When picked him up in the afternoon, he had his tail tucked under and barely able to walk. I was concerned as he didn't improve until the next day. So I called and voiced my concerns. The person I spoke with assured that she will speak with the person who was watching the dogs and will also look at the videos and call me back the next day. No word. So I call back the evening of the following day and told them they were supposed to call me. The person assured me that my concerns will be brought to the managers attention and the WILL look at the video and call me back. Still waiting and this was a couple of weeks ago. read more

The team here take great care of my beagle. I never worry about her when she's in their care. When I know it's going to be a long day at work, I'll drop her for doggie daycare on my way to work and pick her up on my way home. She loves running around with other dogs and getting attention from staff. They have a great grooming staff, too. read more

Me and my dog love this place. He goes to day camp 5x a week and he has a blast. It is worth every penny for my dog to play with other "kids" all day and be relaxed and well exercised at the end of the day. The staff is wonderful and they make my dog and I feel like he is important, loved, and they are so happy to see him each morning. My dog is my child and knowing he is left in such loving hands is a tremendous relief while I am at work every day. The staff has done so much to help bring my dog out of his shell and in just a month I have seen my pup grown more confident. Have to write my annual review. I had to move to Mexico from the Poway area. I sure miss them. I still use Animal Keeper whenever I can. There is NOTHING like this in Baja. I wish they would open a facility here. I wish Tom Sayers and entire staff could just move down here. My Baxter misses them and even now when we are on the freeway heading toward Poway road he stands on his hind legs and starts looking for his favorite play place!! read more

This facility is fabulous and meticulously clean. I was impressed that they called my vet to make sure my dog had all his shots prior to me bringing him in just to be groomed. There were a lot of happy dogs playing in two separate areas and more that were in kennels. I was given a tour and saw all the attention and care the dogs were getting and all the cleaning going on. Brian grooms my dog and he always does a fantastic job. When I pick him up he looks great and he's always happy. read more

We had our kitty at animal keeper while our house was on the market. Some days we had to drop her off at the last minute and it was never a problem for the staff. We have been using the Poway Animal Keeper to board our cat, Gracie, for several years, and we have always been pleased with their service. Gracie seems to be very content there in her kitty condo by the window. When she comes home, she spends a few minutes "telling us" about her stay, following us around and meowing at us, then she casually finds her favorite nap spot and goes about her normal cat routine just as though she hadn't been away. We can tell her life has not been disrupted by her stay. The staff is always friendly, and we get the feeling that they really, truly, love their guests. read more

I have waited way too long to let review readers know about my experience with The Animal Keeper in Poway. For 4 years I have been using their day care and boarding for my mixed breed Terrier, Nigel. He attends the Tiny Tots play group 3 days each week and loves it so much that on the days he doesn't go he pouts! I have always found the team of professionals that work there caring, engaged and knowledgeable about dogs. Most of the staff is long term and have developed 'friendships' with the pets that are regular guests. My dog seemed happy to go to the animal keeper and happy when we got home. She did develop a cough a couple days after we got home but not sure if it had anything to do with the kennel. She also goes to dog park on a regular basis so she may have picked up something at dog park. read more
