I wish I could explain how great my experience with Armstrong was! I have never used movers before, so I was pretty green to the process. Michael did my site survey and was so professional and helpful. He told me everything that I was to expect on the day of the move and gave me some tips on how to pack. I think I will use their packing service next time, because that was QUITE a process. Amanda, in the office, called me before my move to confirm what time the movers were there and ensure I was prepared. She was so nice and helpful and I felt like I was in great hands! The movers (izzy and Reggie) were SO QUICK! I could not believe how fast they packed the van up. None of my items were damaged, and I was called later that day by Michael to check how the move went. I would not recommend. However, I don't know that there is a good moving company out there. Still working thru my experience with Armstrong but learning that what I thought was going to be a good experience is slowly deteriorating. I thought the packers did a good and efficient job but looking at the "detailed inventory" that they prepared, it is anything but detailed. Sure, I can see a box that has a number on it, but there is not indication of what is in the box. If they never packed something, how does an owner account for it? More on this later. They mispresented the condition of my items. My move was cross country. I was provided a delivery window of approximately 7 days which was fine. I was notified by my "coordinator" that my items would be arriving in my new state and that delivery would be on the last day of my delivery window. OK fine, you have had my items for almost 3 weeks. The night before the delivery I texted the coordinator to find out what time I could expect the movers. I was told she would have to wait until the morning to find out, it was Sunday night when I texted her. The next morning I was informed that my items had not arrived at the local dispatch company. Long story short, my delivery showed up 3 days outside the delivery window. So what information was the coordinator going on 4 days before? I won't even get into the "let me tell you how it is" speech that I got from a 2nd coordinator when I asked for the delivery driver to let me know when he was on his way. My items were being delivered to a storage facility and I wanted to make sure I was there to meet them. Let me tell you how it went... no one called me, the delivery showed up at 7 am and we ran out of the house to drive to meet the truck. The delivery team was anxious to unload our items and were shouting out inventory numbers as the unloaded and moved our items into a storage facility. We never had the opportunity to go thru the boxes ourselves to verify what was there. When we tried to slow down, the driver said they needed to move on with their day. Turns out, after going thru our storage unit 3 times, we have items that we cannot locate as being inventoried to begin with AND never delivered. Example, an 8 foot ladder (not sure how you miss that) and a garment bag the held expensive suits. Also disturbing was that someone elses items were included in our delivery. Note: our items were the only delivery on the truck, it was not combined with another delivery. Once you sign the contract with your Armstrong sales rep you will disappear and turn you over to a "coordinator". The coordinators that I dealt with were not able to coordinate my move nor communicate effectively. My guess is that there is a lot of turnover in the position and the skill set required is low. I am now onto the claims phase of my move. So far communication has been vague. I am seeking reimbursement for the late delivery of my items. That process seemed easy until I got unintelligible e-mails from the claims rep asking me to confirm information but no explanation of what I was actually confirming. The 2nd part of my claim will be for my items that were never inventoried and were not delivered. I am waiting for Armstrong to get back to me on that point. I don't have high hopes...why? The OOO that I got for that claims rep said she would return to the office Monday, June 18...June 18 was a Thursday. Not much for detail is she? Again, I don't know if there is such thing as a good experience when you are dealing with a big move, but if you are considering Armstrong, maybe move them down the list. read more

I did NOT hire this company. I am a resident of the building they were moving someone in. This is an encounter I had with your moving crew which was frightening and completely unprofessional. I would NEVER hire you for anything! So last night I had a really scary moment.  Came home and someone is moving in to my building.  These movers have stuff everywhere, blocking other residents cars and apparently they feel they own the elevator.  I parked and as I walked up to the elevator (which is tiny.  Holds maybe 2-3 people comfortably.) I asked the guy if he could please wait.  He ignored me and tried to push his way on.  I again said Would you please wait, I am not comfortable with this, please wait.  He is a big dude!  He starts yelling at me.  How other residents were fine with it.  I said, I am not comfortable with him me and a dolly full of boxes.   I was on first.   So he blocks the door from closing,  and is yelling at me.  I was totally freaked out. I told him as a resident I had a right to ask him to wait. He started to try to push in again. So I put my foot on the dolly and gave it a hard push as I punched the door close button.  As the door closed and the elevator moved, he is still screaming at me.  His intimidation was totally unnecessary! read more

My boyfriend is in the military who used this company to help him with a recent PCS. About a month before they were scheduled to pack up his belongings, I moved in after being displaced by an apartment fire. Most of my belongings were still in boxes, as I was moving with him. I had a clear Rubbermaid box with electronics (Nintendo Switch still in its box, brand new games, etc.). They labeled the box as Living Room items. Different companies were responsible for the transport and storage/moving once it arrived to the destination. When the items were delivered, we realized a lot of bags/boxes were mislabeled. This becomes important, because my Rubbermaid box showed up; however, most of its contents did not. Now, I'm not sure which company my boyfriend filed a claim with, but they denied our claim as there was no proof my electronics were in that box, because it was labeled "Living Room items". While several companies are involved, and I cannot tell who did it, I will be filing a report with the local authorities who will be able to track at least one of my electronics via its serial number. Hopefully that will also tell me who stole my belongings and subsequently who they work for. However, due to the inaccuracies of labeling, I am unable to be reimbursed for hundreds of dollars worth of belongings, so I do not recommend them. read more

Like the story goes if I could give them no stars I would. This company is so irresponsible and not customer service friendly. I ordered cabinets from a different company and they shipped them to Armstrong for delivery. Despite my cabinets delivery date of May 24th Armstrong said they will be sitting in their warehouse until they deliver them on June 7! They said I am free to come and get them but the cabinet maker will void my warranty for damage if we pick them up. The person at Armstrong said that they only deliver once a week in my area but will try really hard to get another truck to deliver them. But no. So this company, being a delivery company for MANY cabinet makers apparently can't get cabinets to you on time. Now I have to reschedule my plumber and cabinet installer that I've had scheduled for over a month. If you have a choice I wouldn't use Armstrong. read more

Having finally completed the arbitration case for my June 2022 move, I can now warn others away from using Armstrong and United Van Lines. Our move from Chicago to Nashville with them was the worst moving experience in 35 years. The sales person told us that we'd probably receive our shipment early in the delivery window because Armstrong has warehouse locations in Chicago and Nashville. However, after the first week of the window passed without hearing from anyone at Armstrong, I sent a note reminding them of their delivery obligation. We received our shipment at 8pm on the last day of the delivery window. The delivery team told us they'd loaded our shipment that morning and drove all day to get to us that evening. They were good guys, but very tired. As we looked at the boxes coming in, we could see that many of them were damaged -- crushed, torn, the bottoms showing water marks. A custom area rug was significantly damaged by Armstrong's packers; they'd incorrectly folded it and it showed water damage. They'd also lost bedframe hardware, preventing the delivery team from re-assembling a bed. Unpacking the next day, we found our KitchenAid mixer had been cracked by what looked like the box being dropped, and the pizza steel pulled out of a water-damaged box was rusted. A repair person replaced the bedframe hardware within a couple of days, but we were referred to United to resolve the rest of the damage. Our experience with United was even worse. Even though we'd purchased the extra damage coverage they recommended, they only offered us $750 to resolve the $6,000 of damages that we documented. We had to go through a lengthy arbitration exercise just to get the amount increased to $2,000. The entire experience with Armstrong and United was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with any type of services company. I strongly advise anyone to avoid using them. read more

My wife and I could not be more impressed with the quality of service and professionalism that we received from the Armstrong Co. to move us from Chicago to Pennsylvania. From the first day we met Christine, our Sales Rep. to Michelle, our Move Coordinator to the four gentleman (Joe, Miguel, Anthony & Ismael) who executed our physical move we were completely satisfied. The teamwork and communication that Joe and his team exhibited during the move was so reassuring it made us realize we were in good hands. Our items were handled with care and their efficiency in getting the job done even with battling the inclement weather was beyond my expectation. They are the WORST movers. They moved my mom from IL to NC last year. DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY. First, the quote Ms. Brandt gave my mother was "wrong," after a $10,000 contact (plus a $1500 shuttle charge) was signed. The Chicago movers refused to pack up certain items without getting more money. Ms. Brandt wasn't reachable, so we spoke to Cindy Maiello at Armstrong to work this out. Apparently Ms. Brandt couldn't count correctly and the movers wouldn't put extra items on the truck and demanded more money. Cindy apologized but made us split an $800 additional charge to have them leave with the small truck to take to the bigger truck. They insisted that the regular (large) moving truck couldn't get on my mom's street, which was BS. Armstrong insisted on bringing a small truck and then took everything to a larger truck, where they wait until they have enough items to drive cross-country. They gave us a window when they would have the items in NC. I flew to be with my mom for 2 weeks to help. The movers were supposed to arrive to unload in NC no more than 10 days later. They didn't arrive until after 2 weeks. I had to change my flight to be there. They didn't reimburse for the additional charges to my flight. They must have left the items in the rain as the boxes arrived crushed, damaged, and dripping with mud. The movers broke a king size bed frame, made 3 holes in a new king mattress, broke a heavy nightstand in half, broke the glass storm door arm, scraped paint/drywall off the MBR wall in the new condo, and couldn't find the screws or wires for her TV, which the Chicago movers disassembled. I spent hours on the phone with Armstrong reps (Cindy & Janna) and filled out claim forms. I think they played soccer with some of the boxes as thing were broken, and, if they don't pack the boxes for you, then they don't pay for what is broken, even if you have insurance through them (& we took out $42,000 worth of insurance, according to Ms. Brandt's estimate). Since the bed was broken, I spoke to Janna Perrucci, who, at the time was somewhat helpful, and said she would do an emergency claim. I thought that would mean that we could go buy a new frame tomorrow as the bed was unusable (the mover snapped off 3 support legs on the frame and tried to glue them back on--see photo--which I told him was TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE). The "emergency" claim, however, doesn't fix the problem in a timely fashion. It took more than a month for them to reimburse her for the bed and they had to send their "inspectors" to see the damage first, when their movers broke it--often in front of us. They did replace the frame/mattress/box spring for $2000, far less than what it actually cost to replace. We sent them receipts and expected to be reimbursed in full, since they broke it and we took out $42K of insurance. The NC movers told us they were day workers who didn't work for United/Armstrong Relocation. One gave me his # to come and fix some of the things that Armstrong wouldn't do (I wouldn't call him--who knows what his credentials are?). Janna said she looked into this and insisted that they were employees of an NC-based United mover, but we know this is not true. The truck driver called Armstrong in front of us to inform Cindy/Janna that no one was available from the Charlotte-area United to unload the truck, so he stopped somewhere to pick up day workers, as the movers were already late with this delivery. We did not get compensated for the lateness either. Once things were unboxed, the movers destroyed a toaster oven (bent it in half), an antique end table (broke off a leg), Rosenthal & Norataki China, a trolley cart, crystal cake plate, Corningware, stemware, and lamps. They wanted to offer us $300 and ended up paying only $453. We had asked for a lot more and found comparable items on eBay/internet to show them the worth of the items the movers destroyed. Keep in mind, my mom took out $42,000 worth of insurance. I spent countless hours documenting the claim. My mom spent time dealing with inspectors and workers who needed to fix the dry wall and storm door. They are slow to return calls/emails. When a settlement was finally reached (for far less than it should have been, considering we had insurance and photos and the inspectors verified that items were destroyed), they emailed to say that a claim check was mailed but it took more than 6 weeks for that check to be cut. These people were unprofessional. The movers were careless and the NC ones were most likely not licensed/employees of the United-affiliate. Insurance did not help. Do not trust your belongings to this company. read more

The most frustrating moving experience possible. Hired this company to pack my contents, move them and unpack them. Packers left one kitchen cabinet unpacked which we discovered after they left. Had to self pack it. Shipment was received on time but two items were damaged in shipment. Filed a claim and have made more than a dozen calls to United Movers claim department trying to get damages resolved. Reached out to Armstrong reps who were of NO SERVICE what so ever. Refused to take ownership. My responsibility to call United claims. Called repeatedly for five weeks and was told each time it would be resolved in a day or two. Never a follow up call (not once) or a returned call (not once) or email update on resolution. The worst customer service I have ever experienced. read more

How low can you go, and still stay in business? From the outset, a V.P. of the company came to make the sale. He impressed me so much, I believed I made an excellent choice. I didn't. Not only was he full of himself, but he didn't measure up to all of his promises to do things that he said he would, nor did his company. On a Friday afternoon, nearly at quitting time, my driver informed us that we now needed another truck as his was full. The office staff at first didn't even answer the phone when we called for more help. This move he said would only need about 5 hours to do, he said when he was at my house to make the sale. 10 hours later, it was done. Our plan as we are having our next home built, was for it to go into storage. Scott, our Salesman said all we needed was a large and then a small storage unit for all... of our stuff. we got two large, and that was providence as we were just able to shut the doors! If anyone is missing a refrigerator, they delivered yours to us! We had the lads take it back. I wonder how much of our stuff is missing, or damaged now as we can't see it until we again move it to the new house. This was the worst moving experience in my whole life! I hired Armstrong to help relocate two of our office locations, and I truly wish I could give them a 4 or 5 star review but the closing was handled poorly. The movers themselves were skilled, helpful and communicated wonderfully with me throughout the moves. For our move in the suburbs, they rented us totes and dollies to pack our things in. Our move was a disaster as we had to be out of one space and the other was unavailable. So we moved to temporary space first and then had Armstrong come back and move our furniture to our finished suite. During that second move, the movers took a few empty totes and dollies that we had. When we were ready to turn in the rest of our rented equipment, we were told that we were missing 12 totes and 4 dollies. I know for a fact that the movers took empties back to the warehouse, but the company contact for Armstrong insisted that was not the case and that it was my fault they were lost. In all, we had to pay over $800 to replace 16 rented items. It was such a shame; we spent so much money with the company, and then to be treated like this at the end? He explained that how "common" it is for people to misplace the totes, for other people to "steal" the totes... sounds to me like it's a scam for them to make extra money at the end. I ended up paying the money to replace their rented items, but the whole experience left me feeling salty towards this company in general. I would not recommend them for a move unless they let you just use BOXES instead of their "rented" equipment. read more

I find it extremely questionable that only the negative reviews for this Yelp "advertiser" are the ones pushed to the non recommended reviews. I stand by my original review and now question whether to ever rely on the Yelp results. For sure I will always check out the non recommended reviews for a full picture of a business. The team I dealt with at Armstrong neither treated my property with care (damaging 22 of my pieces of furniture to various degrees) nor responded to my calls in any sense of a timely manner. The customer service mgr followed every stage of the move including when the move was finished. I had very pleasing/amazing experience with Scott Johnson of Armstrong Relocation of Chicago Movers. I had left him voice message about our move from Chicago area to California area for this month (June). By the time he returned by phone call and we started chatting, I had already reserved move by a company based solely on 2 hour phone conversation (no in home visit), because price was attractive. When Scott called me and apologized that they are completely booked for my time frame, I indicated that I had already booked someone simply by talking on the phone. He explained to me that these phone bookers cannot be trusted and he gave me government website address for understanding fraud (low up front price based on phone call & taking deposit, which is not allowed). Sure enough, I found that they are "rip-off artists" who would jack up price very significantly, after they took your belongings. I truly admire Scott for educating me about this, even though he did not get my business (he was already booked for this June window). This was the worst moving experience I've encountered. I've never had an item broken or lost in a move until now. This move resulted in a broken lamp, a lost lamp shade, failure to pack the mattress from my Murphy bed, a broken dining chair, and a broken media console. Nearly two months later and not a single matter has been resolved (though I will admit I was slow to submit the extensive excel worksheet documenting my claims). They sent a repairman to evaluate the damage to the media console and now I have to schedule a repair. I honestly don't see how they can repair it in a way that looks acceptable. My assumption was I would get the replacement cost of the item, about $1100. There are a variety of other issues which soured my experience but primarily the careless and reckless way in which my belongings were handled and the reluctant and unsatisfactory way they have thus far addressed these issues should send up red flags for anyone considering this company. read more

We interviewed three well known moving companies in the Chicago area for a move to Tennessee. We chose Armstrong. They weren't the least expensive, but "seemed" the best overall. The sales rep was Scott Johnson, who came across as very respectable and believable, however we learned that he lied to us about multiple important points. 1) He sold us FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE insurance and 2) We needed them to store our furniture for two weeks, and he told us our goods "would be offloaded and stored in a climate controlled warehouse in containers". We repeatedly asked about these two points because we paid a LOT of money for this move. On move day, three packers showed up and took all day to pack everything. This is in addition to the third party company who came to pack the grandfather clock and other high value items. The next day the large semi van arrived with six men who spent all day loading everything. We were moving to a place in a mountainous part of Chattanooga. One of the approach roads is inaccessible to 18 wheelers. I warned Scott about this and asked him to make sure their local representatives were aware. He said NO PROBLEM. On delivery day, this is when the real trouble was revealed. Half our goods had been offloaded into a smaller van to manage the roads into our neighborhood, and arrived a couple of hours later than promised. The trailer with the rest of our belongings was left in a parking lot a few miles away. The driver told me that our furniture had been stored on the trailer the entire time after Scott Johnson had told us it would be off-loaded into a climate controlled warehouse. They sent only three guys to offload everything that took six guys all day to load. We complained, and a fourth person was promised, but never showed. Two of the three, especially the driver, didn't want to work. It was raining for part of the day, and the driver didn't want to get wet and stayed in the trailer for much of the time. They "worked" until 1am and finally had to quit for the day. They left with half their truck still full but they obviously didn't secure the load for the few miles on the winding road back to the trailer. Our job was finally offloaded around 3pm the second day. When we started opening boxes we found some things broken. One item was an all-in-one Dell computer which rattled like a box of rocks when we unpacked the box it was in. It was in perfect working condition when they packed it, but of course now it wouldn't power on. The inspector that United sent heard the sound and acknowledged that fact, however United wouldn't accept liability for it even though we paid for full replacement value insurance. Janna (the adjuster) said that "electronic equipment sometimes quit working during a move" and since there was no apparent external damage they wouldn't pay. The computer wasn't showing external damage because it was inside a box that had obviously been dropped! United packers wouldn't have packed it if it was rattling without saying something! Ask Dell or HP or any other electronic company if "electronic equipment sometimes quits working during a move". If they're packed properly and not MISHANDLED, computers do not get loose parts inside and stop working! We expect the damage occurred 1) when the boxes were moved from the large trailer to the smaller van or 2) when the van left our house at 1am without the remaining load being secured. United broke the legs on two end-tables and even tried to hide one in the garage among other items that couldn't go in the house yet. They broke a child's bench that was part of a $150 set and couldn't be bought separately. A couple of pieces of bone china, etc. were broken and several other things were dinged and scraped but couldn't be proven as we didn't realize we needed to take photos prior to moving! When we refused their initial $500 flat rate offer, they sent the inspector who was also the repairman. He acceptably repaired the two end-tables. Then Janna came back with a final offer of $190 to pay for the child's bench and china (computer disallowed as the inspector "could not verify the mechanical malfunction as transit related)! Then they sent us their arbitration requirements which are designed to further discourage the claim due to the difficult process and massive delays. These people are crooks and have a system built in to avoid all responsibility. The computer should be replaced outright. I want to find out who their insurer is because if they are self-insured they are really ripping off the people they supposedly serve. Following this posting, Corey Anderson, President of Armstrong, called to offer satisfactory resolution for the broken computer as well as apologizing for his company's bad behavior. read more

We hired Armstrong on our relation from Wheaton to Denver last year. We were 4 hours into the loading, after we bought the crew lunch when we were told not all of our things would make it onto the truck. How we asked, when we were told ours would be a near full van load so we would be the only shipment on the truck? For the first time we were told the crew had picked up a load the day prior going near our destination. Amazingly, they had more than half a dozen people and another van there within 30 minutes. We were told the second load would be at least 10 days behind the first load. Had we known, we would have prioritized the first load. needless to say, with multiple people filling out the inventory lists, many things were not listed and our claims for lost items were denied. Complete rip offs. Promised my items would be delivered by June 5th - June 9th. But they promised me over and over again that the would easily with no problem be there by the 5. The date range was just and estimate. That is what They told me on more than one occasion. They did not arrive until June 14th. Amanda told us we would receive 500.00 per day for being late. I said $2,000.00 dollars, she said yes I will submit the paper work right now. Once I receive the check it is only for $100.00 per day. Amanda lied. I chose this company because of the reputation of United Van Lines, obviously a big mistake. They also advised me the day of my move it was goung by rail not truck that was never even a possible mode of transportation on the quote I received. What could I do we were moving 1900 miles. The men who do the work are great, very hard working. Be very aware Amanda is about as unprofessional as you will ever have to work with. . read more

My first military move was all the horror stories I had heard once before. The pack and pickup was nothing short of great, but the delivery was another story. I was scheduled for a 2 Dec 2019 delivery, but that was delayed due to the movers being stuck in another area. That was good for me because I didn't have my apartment yet. Fast forward to 4 Dec 2019, my goods were delivered. Everything went good with my unpacking until I realized I was missing one box in my kitchen. So I complete the unpack and organization then call the mover, Andrew. He answers and tells me that they will look for my box. A couple days pass and he notifies me that they have found my box in the truck, he says they will drop it off on their way to the next destination. I call Andrew to no response, I text to no response until a couple of days later, he lets me know AGAIN that they will be through the area and they will drop off. On the day of the supposed drop off, I wait all day for him to call or text, I get NOTHING, so I finally text and call that night...NO response. At this point, I'm pretty upset. I reach out to my Move coordinator, and 2 weeks past and she finally tells me that the trace of my items came back negative. This was the WORST first move, EVER. The next time I move with the military, I plan on letting them know to NOT use Armstrong, this was the absolute worst first PCS experience. It's pretty obvious they still have my items but don't want to come back to this location and drop them off. read more

Hired Armstrong Relocation to move our home furnishings from TX to IL last year. Upon delivery it was noted off from their inventory that numerous boxes were missing as well as some garage items. But wait, that's not all, the master bedroom set was severely damaged, broke an antique cabinet door, scratches and dents were found on the china cabinet, dining room table & chairs, coffee table, etc. When the cargo claim was submitted, the adjusters valued the missing items at 50% of their value and the damaged furniture was discounted of less than 50% for it's value. Armstrong Relocation / United Van Lines handled our move from Chicago to Austin, TX. As anyone who has moved or prepared to move, knows what a stressful process it is to locate a good moving company. I appreciated the knowledge, experience and professionalism of everyone I was in contact with at Armstrong. They set my expectations appropriately, handled my questions and managed my move with care and professionalism. Our drivers were great! Do not use Armstrong Relocation company!! Horrible experience. They showed little to no regard for our property and items. They caused significant damage to the door frames and walls in the house we were moving out of and "claimed" they didn't notice. They also caused damage to our new home. They showed little regard to our property as they were stacking boxes heavy boxes on top of boxes marked fragile and running the down the ramp of the truck as fast as they could and laughing while our boxes bounced all over the place. To the point where my children were worried about their items being broken. They did not reassemble some furniture but failed to tell us. When we called the company they stated they could not find where they put the brackets. For one of the items we found it in a different room for another they called us a few days later as they had found it in their truck. We found a bag full of parts to one of our tables after they had left as well. In addition, they broke several pieces of furniture and scratched our basement kitchen cabinets. It has been two months since we moved and we are still fighting with them to get the insurance coverage that we paid for to get our items fixed or replaced (we did take full insurance). read more

Updated to address resolution... shortly after I posted my original review, I was contacted by someone from Armstrong and they offered us some compensation for the delay. As I told that person, the entire thing could have been avoided if they had communicated with us more clearly from the very beginning. Ultimately, the actual packing and moving services were acceptable (only minor damage to a few items), but be prepared for delays and frustration along the way. While they did deliver most of our items within the agreed upon window, it was an "overflow" situation that caused our final few items to be delayed and they should have warned us about that possibly happening before we signed our contract (which did not address overflows). read more

Moving out of state so I asked some friends for recommendations. One suggested Armstrong moving. The nice appraiser came and assessed the details of my move. Then he handed me a quote that was almost double the other 2 bids I got. When I mentioned this and showed him the other bid he hustled talked around the difference. So NO to Armstrong. read more

Those that are looking for a reputable, trustworthy and quality company for an interstate or local move are better served WITH ANOTHER COMPANY. Both days, staff were late and unorganized. Packing was done haphazardly which made it extremely difficult at destination. No effort was done to ensure final walk throughs to assess potential damage and to ensure all items were packed. The concern was having paperwork signed rather than being transparent about damage. Once signed, Armstrong United Van Lines takes absolutely no responsibility to acknowledge let alone repair damage. Extremely disappointing. The coordinators are adept at communicating meaningless phrases in a poor attempt to make the customer 'feel' like they are heard. However, rest assured, there is no customer focus with this organization. When the owner has to google how to assemble a piano that is an issue. Furniture assembly at destination incomplete. Parts missing with no retribution. I've moved many times - this company is not worth considering. read more

The dedicated teams to both our former and current offices were professional, diligent and provided exceptional care to furniture and equipment. No items were lost or damaged - there was even the added benefit of an office-wide computer unplug, move and re-plug service. Really terrific experience! I've had several relocations over the past 10 years, and this one with Armstrong is the worst by far. They gave me a 5 day window for delivery which they now tell me they won't make, and it's going to be an additional WEEK?? My family has been on air mattresses for a week, trying to stay occupied in an empty house, and my 8 yr old with special needs is now at a point where he NEEDS his equipment. Armstrong says they don't have any options to help me- I just have to wait. I got a sales job, and now they are not living up to their promises one bit. I could have paid more for a smaller outfit but I would have my bed, my kids would have their toys, and my family would be comfortable. I was warned about going with "the big guys"- should have listened. read more

Armstrong moved us from IL to NY last summer. We had the contents of home put into storage for 6 weeks after the move until we closed on our new home. We packed almost everything to save money. We packed one box with a painting on glass in reverse. This was a painting of Abe Lincoln and approximately 120 years old. The box was placed in a corner and we asked the movers not to take it. We planned on laying it flat in the backseat of our SUV. Sure enough, it was packed onto a truck and we did not notice until the two trucks used to pack the entire household left. The glass broke and so did the leg of our patio table. The table and 6 chairs cost $1200 in 2015. I still had the receipt. We submitted our claim and we very quickly received an offer of $300 with the stipulation that if we did not take the $300 offer, a claim adjustor would come and he could claim our loss for less than $300. We felt our loss was worth more. The adjustor came and we then get an offer of $157 for the table and nothing for the painting. It cost more than $600 to replace the table. We were told we packed the painting box incorrectly and the box showed no damage. Remember, it was not supposed to go on the truck. Our household was moved on and off trucks several times during the move. Is it not possible our painting was dropped? Beware, if you pack it yourself, the insurance means nothing. read more

We used Armstrong for a cross county move last June/July. It was the worst experience ever. We have moved many times and never experienced that level of u professional behavior. The list goes on and one - they didn't send enough people to pack, even after visiting our home several times. Because of that, the packing wasn't finished when the movers came to load the trucks. They also didn't have enough movers to load. They didn't properly wrap or carry any of our items, resulting in a lot of wear and damage. During the move out, they extorted an additional $7000 to cover more boxes, etc. all due to a failure on their part to properly estimate. We had no choice but to pay because we had to be out of our house. The movers didn't have us moved out in time. We had to pushback the closing. Then, they told us the vans had broken down and there would be over a weeks delay in delivery our items. When our good were delivered almost 2 weeks late, we discovered how poorly things had been packed and how much damage resulted. In addition, we had a large amount of money for unpacking services and the movers didn't have time to unpack even one box. We have been waiting almost a year for them to reimburse us for that and they haven't responded. Nor have they reimbursed us for hotels etc. Bottom line, do NOT use this moving company for anything! They are shady, unreliable and unprofessional. read more

When we were moving from IL to VA, our employer gave us choices of preferred movers. We contacted three and got estimates from all of them. Armstrong Relocation came the closest to appropriately estimating the weight of our move (we have moved several times and knew the approximate weight). We also liked the Total Winsgspan Coverage option so that any damages would be covered (with 100% replacement value). Our employer would not include extra insurance (over the $0.60/lb that most movers give you) in what they paid for, so we purchased that coverage ourselves. The packers came and seemed to be doing an adequate job (until we unpacked - more about that later) and the next day all seemed well with the loading of the truck. The driver had the delivery date wrong, and wanted to deliver the furniture before we had closed on the house - which we refused and pointed out the delivery date on the moving agreement. When the time came to unload, things progressed fairly smoothly until the movers carried in an antique Victrola upside down, and when they unwrapped it, we discovered that the packers had not placed any paper in the top, so the needle had scratched the top and damaged the finish. Three floor lamps were broken when they came off the truck (which isn't really that uncommon, but we had never had THREE broken at once before). Additionally, while trying to put together our king sized bed, the driver's assistant did not listen to instructions about how the bed should be put together and was unable to assemble it. Claims was called and they sent someone to repair the bed within 72 hours. While unpacking, it became clear that the packers had not really packed all that carefully. The seats of four of our dining room chairs were sunken in from having heavy things placed on top of them, and there were picture frames in boxes with no packing material between them (broken) and a platter that was a wedding gift was inadequately padded and also broke. We have moved 8 times (all interstate long-distance moves) since 2000, and have never had so much broken that we needed to file a claim, but this was so much that we needed to. Thank goodness we had the extra coverage. We filed a claim for the 4 dining room chairs, the 3 lamps, the two broken picture frames, the platter and the antique Victrola. The inspector sent by Armstrong came to the house and looked at everything. While he was here, he pointed out to me that the seats of our other 2 dining room chairs (the arm chairs in the set of six) were also damaged and should be repaired. He took photos of everything that was claimed. When Tanya Pfal from Claims called me she told me that she wanted to check some things - the inspector had left a floor lamp off the form (I told her that he had access to all three and took pictures), and that the value of the platter was not $200 as I had stated but $100 (until we went online and looked for a similar platter and she saw that they were indeed $200). I asked her about the two chairs the inspector had added and she said that legally she didn't think they would be covered since I hadn't included them on the claim form. I told her that since I am not a furniture expert, I didn't realize that the seats of those chairs were damaged until the inspector pointed it out. When she called the next week with the settlement position, everything on the original claim form was covered at the requested amount, but the statement about the other two chairs was that "they had preexisting damage and were loose which predisoposed them to further damage and since they were loose before the move they would not be covered." How convenient that they decided there was preexisting damage so that they didn't have to cover the two chairs that were not on the original claim form. So, before you fill out your claim form, have an inspector come out and help you identify damage that you may not be aware of since Armstrong will not do the right thing by their customers and cover damages they cause (which were pointed out to me by THEIR inspector) if you don't fill out the paperwork precisely. Additionally, the inspector told me that when filling out the amount claimed for each piece that is damaged, you should put the total replacement value for each piece (even if it can be repaired for a lesser cost) because the amount you put in that column is the highest that you will get for each item claimed - they will just go down from there. Don't use this company - their packers are not careful with your belongings, their drivers don't listen to the homeowners about how the furniture should be assembled and when (not if) you have a claim, they will not do the right thing and cover items they damaged. UPDATED 1/14/15 After getting our employer involved, Armstrong agreed to cover the cost of the other two chairs. So they did the right thing in the end, but not without a *significant* amount of time and trouble on my part. read more
