Very nice gentleman. Very disappointed with the quality of their service. I used them 7 years ago, and they did a great job that time. This time, they damaged several pieces of furniture and didn't have the audacity to even say anything about it. They completely broke a cat tree, scratched an end table, scratched a shoe stand, scratched a TV stand, scratched a dresser. I'm understanding about the dresser; that thing was a heavy beast. The other pieces of furniture were very light weight, there's no excuse. They also got mud all over the furniture. I would give negative stars if I could. I booked this company weeks in advance through a friend's recommendation, and they still showed up over 3 hours late with minimum communication. When I called for updates, Mike was dismissive and unprofessional. Instead of apologizing, he kept saying they were "doing the best they could" because it was a busy time of the month. The way he spoke made it feel like I was supposed to be grateful they didn't cancel on me entirely after already being hours late. I asked for some sort of compensation for wasting 3+ hours of my day, and the response was basically that they "couldn't lose money on the move." After the move, I texted Mike again about compensation and he never even responded. I only got a small $20 discount after asking the movers directly. What's even worse is that this company came recommended by a whole group of friends, and after hearing about this experience, none of us plan on using them again. Delays happen. Lack of accountability, professionalism, and basic customer service is the real issue here. read more

I had hired these movers from a friend who had positive things to say about the company. My experience overall wasn't the best. I reached out to Mike to address a few concerns regarding our move. First is my damaged office chair. My computer chair was not wrapped during the move, which resulted in permanent staining. I noticed this damage immediately after the chair was brought into my new place. When I pointed it out to one of the movers, he acknowledged it but said he wasn't sure what happened and did not offer further explanation. Given that I was charged for wrap and tape, I expected that all items requiring protection, particularly fabric furniture, would be appropriately wrapped to prevent damage. During the initial phase of the move, there was a noticeable delay when the entire team was at the loading dock. My partner and I had to wrap our TV ourselves using their blankets and our tape. After waiting 10-15 minutes without seeing any movers return to the apartment (despite the fact that my partner, a family member, and I had already brought everything to the hallway), I went downstairs to check. I found two movers sitting on stools using their phones, with my furniture and items not loaded in the truck yet, and a third seemingly sorting through a toolbox? This delay was concerning, especially since I only had the freight elevator reserved for two hours, a timeframe that should have been sufficient given how prepared everything was (e.g., all items boxed, only large furniture needing disassembly). I mentioned the time constraint (10 minutes left of the reservation of the elevators) to the team, and only then did they return upstairs to continue moving the remaining items. Once we arrived at the new place, I noticed further inefficiency. While one mover worked on reassembling my bed frame, the other two were reportedly downstairs folding towels. The assembler was missing tools and had to make multiple trips up and down the elevator to retrieve the necessary items. This extended the move time unnecessarily and raised concerns about how time was being managed while I was being billed hourly. Lastly, I had to manually remove tape that had been applied directly to my furniture, including the TV stand, which could have potentially caused damage. That said, I felt there was a general lack of urgency and coordination that extended the move time and caused some frustration on my end. I've respectfully paid the full amount, including a tip for the third mover who was added last-minute without charge. Mike was contacted and someone emailed me back and accused me of lying and saying my chair already had a stain and willing to offer you $20 for cleaning products to help remove the stain. And a $20 credit on any future moves. No, thanks. My chair did not have a stain prior and if there was, the crew did not mention it beforehand. But they were able to mention about my cracked drawer frame? I hired and paid for movers to safely and professionally move my items with efficiency, not to damage my chair by not wrapping it at all and moving without any urgency as I was billed hourly. If my partner and I did not help move items, it would've taken them even longer than 5 hours to complete the move. 2 stars because the guys were kind and at least moved our stuff with our hand in help. Other stars knocked off for lack of efficiency during the move to then be charged more per hour and damaged $100+ furniture item, which then was only offered $20 for cleaning products and $20 off for our next move? Had a great experience with this business...Mike quoted me a very fair price..I put down a small deposit and he kept in touch with me, texting me a reminder the day before...Gio and the guys promptly arrived in the morning at my house north of Chicago, wrapped each piece of furniture with care and loaded everything neatly and efficiently on the truck (reminded me of Tetris). Moved everything to our house in Crown Point with no problems...They are experts at what they do and Mike..this crew was fantastic...they put our beds together with ease upon unloading everything, were receptive to my wife's requests for what goes in each room...I would highly recommend them again for any moves, big or small..and the price quoted was excellent compared to other moving companies whose quotes were thousands more...you guys rock! Note: I had one wall that was nicked from one piece of furniture, hence the 4 stars so it wasnt perfect...however, for a truckload of large items that were moved and not one item damaged except for this minor wall nick, that was pretty amazing work not mad at all guys..it was bound to happen and easily fixable...in spite of this, I would highly recommend this company! read more

This was hands down the worst moving experience of my life. Long story short they were an hour late and quit half way through because they had other clients to see and just left all of our stuff in the loading dock of our new place leaving us to carry it up ourselves. They complained a lot being understaffed (which I get can be frustrating), but they were so rude when they were communicating with us, so my sympathy quickly went out the window. I would have been more understanding if they would have said, "this is a bigger job than we anticipated, but were going to do everything we can before we have to leave at X time". But they didn't- they complained about the loading dock and the size of the move and then dumped our stuff and left us to deal with it. Also they left a TON of scratches on my furniture and TV. Absolutely terrible and I will make sure that no one I know will do business with these guys. Wish I could give zero stars. read more

I booked Apartment Specialist about 6 weeks ahead of my move. They were quick to respond and take my money for the deposit. That was also the last time I heard from them. I had a bad feeling when they did not send a confirmation the day before, which they said they would do. They did come recommended to me though, so I assumed they would still show up after agreeing to a day/time and taking my information and deposit. An hour had passed after our agreed upon time, and there was no word from them. I began calling and emailing. I could not get a hold of anyone (still haven't heard back after all my outreach). Long story short, no one ever came. Luckily, I was able to book a separate moving company the same day (shoutout College Hunks) and they got everything into my new place. Geo, Eric and Jeff were FANTASTIC. Let's just start with that. I now understand why people don't move during the winter, because you never know what the conditions will be like. Of course our alley had not been plowed which led the guys to moving things out the front but they handled it with EASE. Our building had not salted the walkway and they came prepared for that as well! The move was very swift and they were beyond diligent. Not only that, but they had a great sense of humor. Damaged our furniture and then the owner (Mike) yelled at me & my spouse for telling him & claimed that we were racists for "complaining."The worker volunteered to take my specialty mirrored furniture to Ace Hardware and initially I was going to let him "try" but I knew they wouldn't be able to fix it since it's a custom piece. I called the company to let them know of the damage & then Mike yelled at me with a bunch of RACIAL SLURS and how dare I just try to get money off of them. Also that I am a "snitch." Excuse me, but as the owner of the company don't you want to know what is going on? By the way, this was AFTER I already paid them. The guys could not even be honest that they broke something but instead tried to rush payment and get out of there before I could see that something was broken. Just be honest and upfront when you break something!! The owner also said some other racial slurs & very bad comments. I would not use a company that has that as the owner. STAY AWAY! you get what you pay for & this is an "affordable" moving company, but they do not care about your stuff.. they will blame you when they break something or call you names for calling them out after they try to hide behind their mistakes! Double check their work and your furniture IF YOU DO TAKE THE RISK!!! P.S. he will twist this around and say this is a lie just like he did to other reviewers & did to us on the phone!!! My husband and I used the apartment specialist yesterday for a long distance move. We worked with Jeff and Eric and, on top of being really nice, they did a great job. They wrapped all of our furniture very carefully and they were very cautious with it. They didn't scratch our wood floors at all, none of our furniture or boxes were damaged and, including a 3 hours drive, the entire process was short and only took about 6ish hours. Buyer beware! Mike Ramos and his team are running shoddy operation marked by negligence and fraud. His website notes they are "licensed, bonded, and insured", however, that is not the case. Mike is trafficking a forged and illegal insurance policy, covered by an insurance agent who does not even exist. I implore that you do not engage in business with this enterprise. If they break your items, they will produce this phony insurance policy and then ghost you. Scammers like Mike have no business operating in our beautiful city. If you do insist on using his services, I suggest you ask for insurance policy upfront and and verify that it is legitimate. I booked the company in August 2023 for a move and they never showed up, never responded to my attempts to reach them, and never refunded my deposit. I was then contacted 6 months later by "new management" and deposit was finally refunded. I hope the company is truly under new management because they needed it. They were moving a washer and dryer from my parent's house in the south suburbs to my condo near the city. My mom, who can be a total Karen, absolutely LOVED both Jordy and Eric. I found out about the Apartment Specialist through Yelp so it's only right that I leave a review here. Last week, I moved from my parents house into an apartment a few miles away. The crew from the Apartment Specialist arrived on time and moved all of my things including a queen sized bed and a large television from my parents house 30 minutes! Amazing! They then proceeded to climb three flights of stairs to my apartment that was located on the 3rd floor. We had to move in through the back and the back porch is narrow and the stairs were weak. I was concerned for their safety but they remained professional and moved everything in without any issues. Unfortunately, there were many issues with the apartment so I decided to move back home. Since I was allowed to break my lease I need to be out of the unit fast. I email Mike the day before I needed to leave and was able to put me on the schedule for the next day. The movers arrived on time and moved some if my things into my storage unit and took the rest to my parents house. I love this company, they are flexible and accommodating. Found these guys on Yelp and read that they had the cheapest rates in town. When I got a quote, I was pretty sure I wouldn't find a better deal and indeed the total cost of my move came to less than $300 even after the credit card fee. The last time I moved, with a different company but with pretty much the same amount of stuff, the total was well over $400. I believe their rates are even lower if you book on a weekday instead of a weekend. As for the movers themselves, Dominic and Jordy were friendly guys with a good attitude and they did good fast work. My move was only within the same apartment complex, so they were done in about 40 minutes. They also arrived earlier than the booked time, which was great - always better to get this kind of thing over with as early in the day as possible. They did text me ahead of time to make sure the earlier time would work for me. I would definitely book Apartment Specialist again and recommend them to anyone moving in Chicago. P.S. The guys did wear masks for safety during the covid pandemic, so no worries there. read more

This was my first time using a moving company and I was super nervous about the thought of someone moving my things for me, and I'm so glad that we stumbled upon this company. We received a really fair quote to move everything we needed for our 2 bed apartment in comparison to other companies that charge by item. The three young men who helped move our items were amazing! I feel awful that I don't remember their names, but they were so careful, courteous, and helpful.
