The ingredients were really fresh and overall, it was ok, but definitely not worth the cost... it reminded me of a New Orleans style stir fry, rather than something authentic, stewed, and perfectly seasoned. Upon being seated, we were immediately and courtesy greeted, and she was very friendly and engaging, even joked about our reference of hunger games and getting seated.. the place is absolutely beautiful. It's stunning the decor the lighting, I mean, just beautiful. Since we were actually just coming to get a couple of light bites, we ordered some cocktails and we also ordered the butcher board. I will start with the cocktails. I did get an old old-fashioned and my friend. She got a margarita. I forget the exact name. But I will say that my old-fashioned was delicious. It takes real craft to make a good one and they nailed it to the t! I taste my margarita. It was also very tasty and she said it was very strong, but you didn't taste it. It was one of those slow burn type of drinks, which I love. The butcher board get it immediately do not pass go, do not collect hundred dollars, get the butcher board thank me later ! I stopped by The Arrogant Butcher with my buddy on a Friday night for dinner. The day prior, I made a reservation on OpenTable for 8:00 p.m. The main dining room was fully booked. All that was available was patio seating. I Ubered there. Since it's downtown Phoenix, parking isn't easy. You can park on the street at metered parking or in a lot. This Italian restaurant is located right across the street from PHX Arena (formerly The Footprint Center). Ambiance (4/5): The Arrogant Butcher has a nice covered patio. The weather was surprisingly chilly and they had some heat lamps going. The interior is also nice with a bar and plenty of table seating. With it being a Friday evening, they were completely full and there was a wait for walk-ins. The business of the spot takes away from the ambiance a bit but outside of that, the vibes are great. Service (4/5): Our server took good care of us. He checked in with us regularly and was efficient. My only pet peeve: he was one of those "salesman" waiters that continually tries to upsell you. He asked if we wanted appetizers several times because it took us a while to decide what we were ordering. He asked us if we wanted a la carte sides with our meal. He recommends a lot of higher-priced items on the menu. It can work on some people but I see right through it. Drinks (N/A): No adults beverages for me on this visit. Just an Arnold Palmer. Food (3.5/5): I came into things thinking The Arrogant Butcher is an Italian restaurant. While there are certainly Italian influences on the menu, it's more eclectic. A mix of Italian, New Italian, and British food for the most part. I ended up going with the latter: classic fish & chips which also comes with a side of coleslaw. Solid. For $20, you get three decent-sized pieces of fried fish; crisp, well-seasoned fries, and flavorful coleslaw. The crispy shrimp was my favorite. It was nice snackable size with a spicy aioli. I could've eaten an entire plate by myself that's how much I enjoyed them. For our main dishes we had the white shrimp rigatoni, pacific sea bass, shrimp, chicken & sausage jambalaya, bbq short rib and slow roasted prime rib. The table went silent as we ate so you know the food was good. I had the rigatoni and it was great. The sauce was delicious and not heavy. We also enjoyed a few cocktails and beers. I don't remember what everyone had but my old fashioned with Widow Jane was great. Our waiter was great. She was quick and made great recommendations. The vibe in the restaurant was also great. It's a pretty decent size with seating that's perfect for solo dining, dates and groups. There's even outdoor seating when it's nice enough to be outdoors. I love all of the photographs on the wall. We stopped here for dinner after having a few drinks with some friends earlier in the day. We sat at the bar and were greeted almost immediately. The drinks were okay. I ordered an old fashioned but with tequila. At many high end restaurants, we order these are never disappointed. The one the bartender made me had mescal in it and I don't like it. It's almost too thin for me. I enjoy hard tequila tasting and would have rather just ordered a traditional margarita. The food. My fiancé ordered the club sandwich and fries while I ordered the crispy chicken which comes with lump crap on top and a delicious lemon caper sauce. The club sandwich was amazing! Large enough for 2 people to split for sure. Fries were yummy as well. The crispy chicken was amazing, I just wish it came with a side. I felt like it was lacking a carb lol. In my most recent visit, two of my colleagues had looked up online for a dinner restaurant nearby and suggested The Arrogant Butcher as they have never tried them out before. Menu and location was ideal as it was 2 blocks away from our hotel, food and drinks seemed appealing to them. Friday the 13th was an extremely busy evening as there was both a basketball game at The Footprint Center. Servers name was Eli. He has been very welcoming from start to finish leaving our visit a pleasant experience. Clean restaurant with spacious seating areas both interiors and exterior patio as well as bar seating. No complaint as such here as we were seated within 5 minutes of waiting for outside dining table. Appreciate the water mist to keep you cool and comfortable in the desert heat. Maybe a little average yet affordable pricing, good selection of appetizers and entrees, drink selection is endless. Definitely recommend for dine in needs as they are worth it for a good evening. Went to the ELO concert on Oct 29, that got rescheduled. We originally had a reservation but when the concert moved, we could not get in online, so Hub called up and asked if there was anything. I knew from other Sam Fox restaurants that the pretzels with provolone fondue is a good appetizer, and my husband enjoyed the meatballs with garlic bread. I was pleasantly surprised by the roasted half chicken with lemon herb butter. It was a generous portion, cooked perfectly tender and served with a cup of mac n cheese. (Husband had jambalaya.) For my dessert, I selected the mascarpone cheesecake with fresh strawberries - sticky caramel cake for the spouse. Let's just say I brought home a giant brown bag filled with takeout containers. Located diagonally across from the Footprint Center, the Arrogant Butcher is a place you dont want to miss. While visiting Phoenix for a couple of days, we came on a wednesday evening and both the bar and patio was packed. Thankfully we made reservations and were able to get seated right away. Sadly they were out of the sea bass and French dip sandwich when we came. Nachos 5/5: beware that this app was meant for 3-4 but it was so delicious that my girlfriend and I devoured this plate before our entrees came. The smoked carnitas were pull-apart soft and the cheese was soft and gooey and all the flavors worked very well together. Prime rib 5/5: maybe we got an end piece or maybe because we ordered it medium and they had to roast it to temperature but our piece had a crust over the entire piece (unlike most prime ribs that are pink in the middle) Either way, the steak and the side of mac and cheese were delicious. From the very first bite of the rib cap we knew we made a good choice. The steak was so tender and juicy it melts in your mouth. Jambalaya 4/5: Maybe an unfair grade because we only took a couple of bites when it was freshly made since we got full off the nachos and steak. They were very generous with the shrimps and sausage and chicken. We definitely tasted the Cajun spices and even after storing it over night and microwaved it was delicious. The server and manager were really friendly and checked on us often to make sure everything was good.
