They are not cheap, but that's because they manufacture and install their own high quality shades, with no middleman. The 5% black shade we had installed has made a HUGE difference in our giant south facing living room window. We previously had a blackout curtain on the inside, but our double paned window glass was still hot to the touch on the inside. The solar shade has completely stopped all of that heat transfer, and our air conditioning has started turning on literally hours later as a result. The solar shade has also made TV watching possible all day long without needing to close the blackout curtains. The best part is we haven't lost our beautiful view when the shade is down.
