The biggest positive here was the extremely fast service. Our food was ready quickly enough for me to wonder whether they started preparing one of every dish when they saw us pull into the parking lot. On the negative side, it's a bit pricy for a dive type atmosphere. Same price point as nearby La Caretta and Acupulcos, but missing the soft lighting and semi-polished delivery. Food was ok. A little bland for my tastes. I won't rule out returning, but there are other Mexican restaurants in the area that I'm more likely to choose. read more

This place is a hidden gem between Natick and Framingham. The food is authentic Central American with a combination of Mexican and Salvadoran food. If you want to try a nice authentic drink, go for the Horchata. Their fajitas are absolutely great and two people can easily share all the food. Most people go for the traditional Mexican, but try some entrees from their menu and you will be pleasantly surprised! read more

Looovvve this place, we go at least a couple times a month. Fresh food made to order (even the chips and salsa are homemade), fast service, family run, and very cute inside. I always get the enchiladas and my husband always gets the fajitas, always great! HIghly recommend! read more

Seemed a little sketchy when we first walk in. A table full of Brazilian men looked my girlfriend up and down for an awkward 2-3 minutes while we waited for our table. Once I started staring back they looked away. It was really bright and ho in the dinner room. Like uncomfortably hot, not just a little too warm. Just one server who seemed to be doing everything on her own. Felt bad for her, but she was keeping up. My margarita was good but a little light on the tequila. The chicken tacos were amazing! Maybe the best I've ever had. Overall the food is awesome. The ambiance not such much. Think I'll do take out next time but I will go back. read more

The service is horrible, take out has been a nightmare, one time I got a shrimp quesadilla with only 3 shrimps total, one side had nothing but cheese. This latest I ordered 3 steak quesadillas and the waitress argued that they didn't make those which was weird to me because I have ordered them before any how I ended up only getting two and one of the was shrimp. Such a shame the previous owners were more into their restaurant it seems like the new owner has no clue what's going on underneath her nose read more

Sketchy part of town location, but better than the rest of the Mexican choices in this area. My friends and I used to come here for the chips and salsa because they fry them fresh with fresh salsa as well. The food is so-so I mean I've had better, but this hits the spot when you want it. My friend and I were in town for an event and we were not familiar with the area, so we "Yelped" for a place to grab a bite and a drink. We decided to try The Aztec as we are both fans of good Mexican food. Upon arrival the outside of the place looked sketchy. Small and divey looking. But through the windows we saw brightly colored chairs and decor. There were quite a few customers, too. They have a patio, which no one was sitting at. Upon entering we were confused. There was no sign stating if it was a seat yourself place or if we should wait to be seated. We looked to our left and a woman behind a small counter smiled and asked "two?" She pointed to a two seater table next to the window. Their menu is authentic Mexican. Nothing fancy. The usual fare. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla and my friend got a combo plate that had two crispy tacos and one enchilada. Both served with rice and beans. The food was fairly good, though the shrimp in my quesadilla was overcooked a bit. I also ordered a mango margarita. Let me tell you. Woah. Fresh mango puree makes this thing spectacular. Perfectly balanced with tequila. No salt or sugar rim was offered, and there was no ice at all but it was so good I didn't care. If I didn't have a 2 hour drive home I would have ordered a second one. The staff was very friendly. The place was fairly clean... could use some organization. The bathroom door doesn't lock but pretty clean. Limited parking. Dinner averages $10-15 per person. I'd say give it a shot at least once. read more

The restaurant was pleasant, colorful, and the waitress was very welcoming.I was initially disappointed with the chips and salsa. The chips were decent but the salsa tasted like ketchup with bits of onion and cilantro. I ordered 4 tacos, chicken, pork, beef, and chorizo. All 4 tacos came with either the red salsa or a green salsa on them, and no cilantro or onion. They were all pretty bland and the chorizo tasted like a grilled sausage. Whoever is saying this place is authentic has clearly never had authentic mexican food because this place couldn't be any further from it. I'm conflicted... this place is causing me inner turmoil. I ate here a few months ago and thought it was just eh, but I think all mexican food in New England is just eh so I wasn't surprised. But then I went back on Friday because I was desperate for ANYTHING that called itself Mexican. I got a spicy pork chimichanga and it ACTUALLY was spicy, go figure! That never happens! However, it didn't really taste like a chimichanga, the "sauce" was bbq sauce drowning in chipotles. I happen to really like chipotles... so do I give Aztec crap for giving me a chimichanga in bbq sauce? Or do I hug someone in the kitchen for making something that set my mouth on fire? read more

Went with a group of six and had a really unexpectedly good meal. Between the six of us we had hard tacos, enchiladas, tamales, guacamole, chile relleno and fajitas. The guacamole had a weird consistency although they were clearly fresh tomatoes chopped up into it I feel the avocado may have been a frozen product so I wouldn't recommend that. But the tortilla chips were obviously homemade light and not greasy. They use standard refried beans which were just ok and the rice we also did not care for.... It almost had a Minute Rice type of grain to it. otherwise the food was really, really good and they had full beer wine and margaritas which was an unexpected delight read more

Good, simple and cheap makes the Aztec a must-visit for anyone seeking tasty Mexican in the metrowest area. Tacos, enchiladas, nachos, and burritos are the best in town, as long as you are willing to put up with a little extra grease for the sake of super crispy chips. I heard really great things about the Aztec. I have to say, I was underwhelmed. The service was pretty alright. We got a table fast, and they were rather attentive and got our orders 100% correct (being vegan, this is big for me). We did have to ask for silverware. My big problem? Nothing was salted or had a huge depth of flavor. The chips were fresh and warm, no salt. I don't want a salty salsa, but it was pretty flat tomato on those saltless chips. I liked the bits on onion and peppers, but still, I've had much better. I'm usually a straightforward tequila girl when it comes to my margaritas, but I was feeling sweet, so I got a strawberry margarita. It was blended, bright pink, and not super sweet. It tasted vaguely of tequila and ice and not much else. I had a vegetable burrito, no cheese or sour creme. I was hugely grateful that there was no cheese in the burrito, on the burrito, or on the beans or rice that came with it. There were no beans or rice in the actual burrito, just grilled veggies. They were good, but I was thrown. I mentioned it to a friend from Texas who continually derides New England's version of Mexican food, and she agreed that it was a bit odd. The burrito was also covered in enchilada sauce (not spicy) and needed a knife and fork. It tasted best mixed with the beans and rice and drizzled in hot sauce anyhow! Again, nothing had any heat or salt to it without the hot sauce. The place was super cozy. When this restaurant was in a previous incarnation and when I was 10, I puked in their bathroom and was prepared for flashbacks. But the places is super bright and homey and it was pretty full. The Aztec came rec'd to me by several people, so I'll probably give it another shot. Hopefully things will be better when it's not Mother's day! read more

I love to sit outside and eat when it is nice out. The staff is always friendly and helpful and the food is simply delicious. So glad I found this place years ago. Stumbled across this place because El Maya down the road was closed that day. Well, the best thing about this restaurant was VISUAL: a very attractive and pleasant young female server, and nice bright warm colors and decor, with lots of native wood carvings. The food looked great on the menu. On the table, the portions were the smallest I've ever had in any Mexican or Latin restaurant, which normally allow you to get stuffed on the cheap, even if the actual quality (at least in New England) isn't that great. Not so here...our carne asada had 1/2 or 1/3 as much beef as at other places, and the taco platter was similarly stingy on the meat. Plus, the meat was overcooked, tough, and bland---we had to ask for hot sauce, which helped somewhat. But the hot sauce, like the guacamole and salsa, both looked and tasted like they came out of a can---pureed way too smooth and lacking much freshness or flavor. The prices were ok-ish at least, about $12-14 per entree. My suspicion is that this place aims to make their money from selling beer and margaritas, which is why they scrimp on the food. Looks like Taqueria Amigo in Waltham is still the only decent place to get Mexican food in the Boston area, sigh. Probably a good idea to avoid any Mexican places that sell booze, perhaps? read more

Went there for lunch today and LOVED it. I had the chimichanga with chicken. Came with fresh chips and salsa, too. I really love mexican and am very picky about good mexican. I will go back. It's not in the prettiest location, but the food is great. Even looks like owners/cooks are mexican or south american. One reviewer here said her food had b-que sauce. Can not be true. My chimichanga had a red sauce on it, which looks like b-que, but was certainly a mexican sauce. It was so yummy. can't wait to go back! read more

Despite some very positive reviews here on this establishment, which are responsible for our visit, our recent and very first experience was very disappointing for the following reasons: - While the quantity was generous, my shrimp fajitas was overcooked and rather tasteless. Many pieces of pepper were scorched. The pieces of shrimp were numerous, but tough, shriveled, and not juicy at all. The entire food on the hot plate was completely bland. - The tortillas felt perhaps as if thin cardboard sheets would taste (while I have never tasted them), and bland too. - The guacamole was not inspiring at all either. On the positive side, the waitresses were pretty attentive. In any case, the same dish at Margaritas is far superior in my opinion, although it usually comes with only 8 pieces of shrimp. I always finish the entire dish there, while I left about the half at The Aztec even though my stomach was not satisfied. We will not return. read more

Lucky to have this place in Natick Framingham. I've been going there on and off for almost 10 years. The place is lovely to be in. The seats I am told were imported from Mexico and are stunningly delightful. The food is affordable and really good. Go for the fajitas. They come sizzling and in plenty. Moved to the area a few months ago and have been on the hunt for a good Mexican restaurant. Me and my husband vowed to never go to Margaritas again after going a few times and always regretting it. The Aztec is a family owned restaurant with great food and great service. The nachos are delicious and a must try. The fajitas are also very good. My favorite dish is the Mexican Steak. It is a flank steak covered in peppers and onions and it comes with rice and beans. The staff is very friendly (and beautiful) and they always greet you with a smile. The Aztec looks a little divey from the outside, but inside it's bright and friendly. Dinner (margarita, tacos el pastor special) was good, definitely good value for money, and the place has a neighborhoody, family-friendly vibe. But dessert was a revelation: the homemade caramel flan, which our server told us she had made herself, was AMAZING. Deep, complex caramel flavor, velvety texture. My family and I go to Aztec a lot and have plenty of experience with the menu. For our money, it's the best of what's available nearby (I won't name the two other Framingham places that are its competition). Over the years, we've felt the food was a little inconsistent. Sometimes we'd walk out saying "That was great!" Other nights, meh. But it seems to us the food is much more consistently on the good side lately. My wife always gets one of the combos (numero seis) , which has an enchilada and tacos, and she enjoys them. I find the soft tacos al pastor to be really wonderfully flavored and cooked and get those often. (Other soft tacos on offer in this town come with gummy flour tortillas and are to be avoided.) The pork chimichanga with chipotle here is also very good. In the past, carnitas were often a special on the white board and were always fantastic: flavorful, tender with crispy edges, really great. Even when not offered, I used to ask for them, and they'd usually make them for me. No luck with that recently though. I wish they'd come back.The children like the burritos and quesadillas on the children's menu. I've had the fajitas on occasion but find they aren't as satisfying. Rather dry, but they usually are everywhere, aren't they? They always sound more appealing than they are when you're actually eating them. The chips are fresh, the salsa is too--salsa is not wildly flavored or hot, but very pleasant, with fresh cilantro in it--nice and thin, not heavy and gooey. And not sweet! (At another local place, the salsa is like sweet marinara sauce.) And the drinks are just what you'd want. Only Dos Equis is on draft, but that's good enough for me, and my wife loves the margaritas. We're looking forward to Tacqueria Mexico soon to open on Route 9, and we love the flavors and choices (Including lengua) of the Anna's chain in Boston. But we are loyal to this place and will stay with it. We're glad to see it doing well--just well enough to always be almost full these days, but with an open table or two waiting for us. read more

The food was great.we ordered chicken enchiladas, chicken fajitas, and Flan .. although couple of things were disappointing ..first of all tortilla chips were served for every table except us. Our lunch came and only after asking about chips, we got it. Supposedly they forgot, alright no biggie. We got the check total was $27 and some change..guess what was the tax amount (only tax) ???????$6 and some change.......6.25% is the MA tax on meals We were surprised and indicated tax is incorrect . They replied tax + tips were added to the bill for 3 of us in the group . Even for 6+ people mandatory tip is called out separately as 18% tip. They were clearly trying to sneak in extra money in the name of tax which is just disappointing..we have been to lot many restaurants and have never seen this kind of act.. So please WATCH OUT everything on the receipt, whether all the items are charged properly, including TAX. read more
