The people who run this place are very nice, so I really wanted to give it a better review. Unfortunately, the food is quite disappointing. The salsa and chips were sub-par. I had an enchilada plate that had 3 different varieties. The chicken wasn't too bad, but the pork and beef were flavored with what I could only assume to be Kraft BBQ sauce. Not very Mexican. The beans and rice were boring, even for beans and rice. My wife's Margarita was made with a bad mix, with little detectable tequila. I don't remember what she had, but it is the only time in recent memory that she left food on her plate. The decor is classic Mexican kitsch. Parking is free. read more

I also ordered their chicken soup on another occasion, it took extremely long to come out and it was basically a bowl of broth with chicken bones without chicken on them, although it tasted good I would not recommend wasting $15 on a bowl of broth and bones. I have eaten at the Aztec twice, and both times I was extremely disappointed. The first time I ordered the Triple Enchilada with chicken. The only part of the meal that I enjoyed was the homemade chips that came with the takeout. The chicken was shredded, dry, and brown. It honestly looked like to dog food. On top of its looks, it had absolutely no flavor. They packed on the chipotle sauce, which was too heavy and overpowering with its spices. It didn't taste like Mexican cuisine whatsoever. It tasted more like barbecue sauce. There was barely any of the green sauce and no red sauce at all. The rice had no flavor and the beans were average. The second time I ordered the Chicken Chimichanga and my boyfriend ordered the Chicken Burrito. The Chimichanga and Burrito were identical. They were interchangeable too because the Chimichanga was not crispy at all. As far as I could tell, it was never fried in the first place. The chicken was the same flavorless chicken as the first experience. The red sauce did not taste good. It barely even had any flavor. The rice and beans were also the same as the first experience. This place is a favorite lunch spot with my former team leaders. As you enter the restaurant, it has that cozy kitchen dining atmosphere (you seat yourself) and there is a TV on with Mexican programming. There are usually a few lunch specials on the board as well as an everyday lunch menu with good prices. I like the complementary chips and salsa here. The homemade fried chips are very large and crispy and the salsa is good too. I've ordered the Tacos, Burritos, Pupusas, and Chimichangas, which are served with Mexican rice and refried beans. Cheese glorious cheese. If there is one thing Aztec understands it is my infatuation with all things cheese. Melt it on top, stuff it inside, wrap it up and fry it next to some type of meat and pico de gallo and you've got a happy camper. I've been coming to Aztec for years and whether you dine in or take out the dishes are consistently cheesy and wonderful. Enchiladas, Chimichangas, burritos, you name it, they're melting cheese on it. I am especially a fan of the red sauce they use on both the enchiladas and "wet burrito" ( a chimichanga, not fried). It's got a robust tomato flavor that's almost fresh, but then still knows it came from a jar. I want to give Aztec four stars but the truth is I really can't. Though they claim to be authentic, it's tex mex at it's best. The refried beans are tasty but forgetabble, the salsa, is more tomato then anything and the guacamole is the same green bagged kind they sell in the produce section of Shaws. But, if your looking for fast mexican and guaranteed taste with huge portions for under 12$ then Aztec is a go to in Framingham. They do do one thing absolutely 100% right. Their chips and salsa. It was quite bright and I'm afraid my date now knows exactly how I look in real life. The restaurant has no qualms about you murdering plants in the parking lot with your car (oops) and ensures plenty of dark spaces for make out sessions if that date goes well! The shrimp quesadillas are sooo good and filling. At first I wasn't sure how shrimp and cheese would be together, but my advice is to just go for it! You won't be disappointed! The chicken fajitas are another good pick. The chicken isn't all dry and chewy like it is at some other places. It's very flaky and flavorful. There's Mexican restaurants, and then there's the real deal. Aztec is fantastic. When you hear someone RAVE about the refried beans, you know you have something special. Creamy, hot, melty, cheesy refried pile of yumminess. They go along so well with the enchiladas. The triple enchilada with the red sauce, green sauce and chipotle sauce is a great meal. Refied beans and rice round out the dish. I had two enchiladas with al pastor pork and one with the shredded beef. Nice ice cold Modelo Especial on tap in a frosty mug and man, that's livin'. I ordered their birria tacos with cheese and they were incredible. The tacos were very flavorful and the consume was absolutely delicious. The meat in the birria tacos was cooked to perfection and very tender. I also ordered a side of rice and beans and the portion they gave me was big enough to split. This place has pretty awesome Mexican food. Husband and I used a restaurant.com gift certificate ($25 off a minimum of a $45 purchase). I got: Negra Modelo Soft taco plate - al pastor He got: combo #3 (tamale, chile relleno, and a hard shelled chicken taco) Hornitos Margarita Flan for dessert. Bill came up to just over $45 What I liked about this place was that it was legit mexican and no frills. The chips and salsa were awesome. Chips were hot and salsa was fresh. I would have liked a bit more spice in my salsa, but that's just a personal preference. We ordered another chips and salsa and they charged us $2.50 and didn't tell us they would. Not a big deal. The food came out super fast and tasted great. I took a bite of just about everything on the husband's plate and everything tasted awesome. The chile relleno was one of the best I've ever had. He had a green chile tamale on the side which had the greatest salsa verde ever. His margarita was made with real lime juice and crushed ice. Put it this way, I took a sip and got goose bumps. They don't skimp on the booze. My beer was served with a mug that looked like it came straight from the arctic circle. I didn't use it, but it was sweet that they have mugs that cold. The beer was cold enough for my taste coming straight from the bottle. The only reason why this place didn't get 5 stars was because they added a 25% gratuity on the bill without telling us they would. I knew that it would be 18% (it says on the restaurant.com gift card that an 18% grat. would be added to the bill automatically). We would have probably tipped her 25% anyway (we're both in the service industry), but I usually like to know something like that is coming Keep it up Aztec. You're pretty solid. read more

I actually really like the Aztec. If you want something special here, order the pupusas. Like most "Mexican" restaurants in New England, the proprietors are actually Salvadoran, and that is the food they do best. They also usually have some traditional Salvadoran whole fish dishes available that I have not tried, but they look really awesome. There hours seem a bit erratic, so it might be worth calling before driving there. One last tip: their horchata is the tastiest and most authentic I have found. read more

A cute and colorful spot in framingham with their own private parking lot. it gets very busy on the weekends so go early or be prepared to wait. We tried the margaritas which were good. They gave us chips and salsa to start off and we got the house special crispy tacos and chicken tostadas. We also got a guacamole for the table. the food was good but the service was ok. Dropping it a star because they have taken to denying customers the use of the restroom. The door is locked and several "no public restroom" signs are up. I did not get a chance to ask since I waited 5 minutes after entering the eat-in portion and nobody came out. Do not patronize unless they agree to let you worship the sacred porcelain or you are built like a camel. They will sell you a few beers so you have to rush somewhere to take your leak. I just came back from spending a few days in Boston and had the privilege of trying the Aztec! Privilege because the food was way on point. It was a quiet Thursday night, but the bright beautiful Mexican color schemes made up for it. The service is very quick and efficient. Their chips are good and their salsa is great, although, it's not very spicy. None of the food is spicy, and on any day I would have noticed, but the Aztec offers such great Mexican flavors I literally forgot to ask for fresh chilies or hot sauce until I completely finished my meal. This is VERY unlike me. I ordered the taco platter. Ya get three well portioned tacos. The corn tortillas were so fresh and hot. Rice and beans come with the 11 dollar plate. You can mix and match the meats. I tried all three: pork, chicken, and beef. Excellent. We also got a plate of the beef enchilada and fried pork taco combo. The pork taco made this entire meal. Not sure what they did to enhance and retain the juices that flowed out of it the taco. It's messy, but so freakin' good. I definitely recommend this meal. So glad Yelp directed us here. We were going to try another joint in the neighborhood, but thankfully it was closed! We got lucky this beautiful New England night. read more

The Boyfriend and I have been here twice now. I love this place! The food and the decor are excellent. The service has been excellent both times as well. You start with homemade tortilla chips and salsa which are exactly how I make chips when I make Chilaquillas. We're had the chicken soft tacos, tamales, beef tacos, enchiliadas and camarones. Everything is excellent and it's literally 3 minutes away from our house in Natick Village. The Aztec totally surprised me. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere outside of Boston, but it serves one of the BEST (seriously) Mexican out there. It's a little unassuming, but don't let the location or shop fool you. The food--perfectly made. It had the right balance of everything on each plate. I have bookmarked this place for a while and finally I came here for a nice lunch with my co-worker today. I was going to get chimichanga, which I think it would have been a great dish. But I ended up getting lunch portion of steak fajita, which was an amazing choice. As compared to the fajita in Texas, the fajita here was equally good. And it is in Framingham, MA, which means that I don't need to make an expensive visit to Texas to eat decent Mexican food. The complimentary chips were warm and the salsa was definitely fresh. The lunch deals are pretty affordable and have generous portions. I highly recommened this local mom and pop restaurant. read more

On the road from Holliston to Framingham my girlfriend announced she was hungry and she wanted vegetables and a margarita. Always looking to keep her fed and happy, I asked Yelp what was close and Mexican. It pointed me to Aztec. I had driven by many times over the years, but I never stopped. Today I did. The restaurant has two doors off the parking lot - one leads to a small bar populated with locals and the other to a dining room. The bar looked crowded so we sat in the dining room. The menu was fairly well rounded with typical Mexican fare. While the soup with vegetables and ear of corn that was on the cover of the menu wasn't one of the choices inside, they did have a fajita salad ($8.99) and margaritas for my lady. I got a burrito ($9.99). It came with sides of rice and beans. While the prices weren't cheap, they weren't outrageous. The food came really fast (under 5 minutes). The portions were generous. The food, however, was bland. Salt helped. Some fresh herbs would have helped too. By the way, ignore the big vato in the bar holding court with a fly swatter. I didn't see a single fly. read more
