Honestly I'm sure in its prime things are great here, but I was very uncomfortable here in our recent visit. We were in town for a wedding and wanted to go out for a drink in the evening. I totally get the college town vibe and I think the concept of this place was really great, but in terms of COVID things weren't good. The bathrooms were not clean, tons of people close together everywhere, and it just gave me a really uneasy feeling. We ended up at the bottom level and had a fantastic bartender. He was attentive, quick, and super hilarious. If it weren't for the uncomfortable feeling I'm sure my rating would be better. Hopefully we can visit again and have a better experience. This is such a cool place! If you are in Grand Rapids, you have to check The B.O.B out! This is a "many-in-one" type of place. There are different things happening in different parts of the building all the time. If you are looking for delicious food and outstanding margaritas, I would point you to the second floor. There you will meet the hostess and wait to be seated. I highly recommend trying their margaritas, as they are some of the best I have had at an "untraditional" location. Aside from food, this is also a really cool place to just hang out. There are ping pong tables, corn hole boards, and beer pong tables in the basement that you can use while you are hanging out with friends. All you have to do to get ahold of the items to play the games is approach the bar tender and ask. They will request a form of ID to hold as you "check out" their materials. No worries, though, if someone else wants to use them after you, they have no problem switching IDs! Warning! There was Karaoke on Saturday night, and what a blast that was! There was so much talent, which made for an awesome atmosphere! Everything about The B.O.B is great, but the location of The B.O.B stuck out, as well. It is super convenient, especially for guests at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel across the street. I love the B.O.B., but my last experience waiting in line to get in will deter me from ever going there again. This was a Saturday night for reference. Got in line at 10:15pm, did not enter the building until 11:53pm. Was it worth it? No. The bouncers are corrupt, they can easily be bought with cash. Doesn't matter how long or how many people waited in line or how upset everyone else is, they will let a dozen people cut in front of you if they see some green. Angry that patrons had to bring it upon themselves to prevent line cutters because the bouncers can't perform their jobs properly. read more

I'm not normally the type of person to share stories like this, but tonight was one that I want others to know about. I used to love this place but I was there for my best friends birthday and we paid extra to go to the Eve and we never moved out of our dancing spot once we got to the dance floor. These random girls and one guy came in and shoved us out of the way. They called me a b**ch and then next thing I know security is escorting us out for their behavior...? Totally crazy and the security guard Steven was rolling his eyes at me at I was telling him this group was aggressive (hitting by and calling names) and a guy in the group groped me after he shoved me. I am super disappointed with the security staff in that we had to leave because these random college kids wanted our spot on the dance floor. Absolutely ridiculous way to have to "remove both parties" when we didn't do anything besides mind our business and dance. So sad because the BOB isn't what it used to be. Walked up to bar and instead Of yelling at the bartender that I wanted something, I waited until bartender was available. He finally looks at me and says "you look like you need something". Really? Nice greeting. I asked if there was a Oktoberfest from a local brewery available. Response "no". Me "any recommendations on a local tap you like?" Response "no". I asked if there was a beer menu. Response "no". Then he said " I guess that's strike three for you". That was it. Nothing. I tried to look at what was on tap, but too small to read. My friends and I have been to this bar many times, we have had good memories, however there is one that outweighs all the others. to start off, my group had to wait an hour and a half to get, which is understandable due to the busyness. We finally get in and have a drink and are dancing upstairs. A few friends of our group go up on stage on the second floor, and one of our male friends goes up as well. Immediately he is stopped by a bouncer and told that he is not allowed on the stage with his friends because he is a male and has to go back. If I could give a negative 10 stars I would. I came here on Saturday with my fiancée while celebrating our engagement. She is from the area and was excited to show me this place. We live in Chicago. When we tried to exit the elevator and go to the fourth floor, a bouncer physically shoved her and started screaming at us. He could have simply said it was closed, but instead threatened both of us and attempted to hold us against our will in an elevator. A female bouncer stood by and did nothing when this happened. I was very glad to hear that this bar was still open during the national pandemic but was VERY disappointed to walk in and see poor use of masks (bouncers were wearing clear masks that did not cover mouth or nose entirely, some wearing them underneath their chins), and lack of sanitation. I need to give this rating a 5/5 and I hope you will bear with me to hear it. I have recently began my journey of being a Vegan and realized that being in downtown Grand Rapids was a great place to try out with all of the restaurants that accommodate this change. I entered the B.O.B. last night with hopes of finding something vegan and tasty to eat. After scanning over the menu, I was frightened that there was nothing for me to so I called over the manager to tell him my girlfriend and I were leaving. He completely understood and when we gave him the reason he pointed out things on the menu that can be made vegan and completely changed our minds. Our server, Brandon, was spectacular. First off, Brandon, you are a very kind individual and with an attitude like that you are going to be a spectacular nurse very soon. He constantly checked up on, ensured that my meal would be vegan by overlooking its production, and maintained amazing conversations with us. I had the Ancho Cabbage Steak. This was fantastic. Perfect portion of food, great price, and spectacular flavor. Made me want more and I have never seen cabbage handled this way. I gotta hand to the Bob, they are turning things around. I visited, somewhat begrudgingly, last Thursday night and found that I really enjoyed myself here. We started out at "The Brewery". Why it doesn't have a real name, I'm not sure, but I noticed that they expanded it to take over the entire basement floor. The Brewery's menu has also expended but thankfully they kept the their Robert The Barrel beer. It's a really freakin good beer. It's aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels and featured in limited releases year round (but every time I've come they've had it). Keeping with the Kentucky theme, their menu has expanded to include southern style briskets, ribs, smoked wings, Corn Dogs, and other bar foods with a down home spin. I split the Smoked Beef Brisket and a plate of steakhouse cut fries with my friend was flabbergasted how much food it was. Maybe not 100% authentic Louisiana but it was very good; better than it needs to be for a bar. Also, I feel like people don't get too creative with cole slaw but this side dish almost overtook the main dish as the thing we talked about most at our table! The Brewery's slaw is spicy- like maybe they put Franks Red Hot in it. I've never had something like it, but kept with the whole southern theme. Back on the main floor, we stopped in at H.O.M.E. to end the night. H.O.M.E is the replacement for Crush, which no longer exists. Although it wasn't busy the night I visited, I found the facelift from club atmosphere to rustic, folk meets blues bar to be completely enchanting. I wouldn't describe it as a country bar by any means but the new décor has a reclaimed, vintage look to it. The band that was playing was of the hipster/bluegrass/ guitar/ cute, sweet song variety, which I was enamored with. I would definitely come back for another show. Best part- no cover charge for our night. Not sure if they are waiving cover all the time now, but it made a nice night, even better. My friends and I recently went to Grand Rapids for a weekend. We stayed in the Courtyard Marriott Hotel across the street and saw this place was hopping out our window! We looked it up and decided it was worth a try. It definitely was! In this one building, there is everything you need for a great night. We went to dinner on the restaurant on the second floor. It was fantastic! I was not that hungry so I just ordered the bruschetta. However, they had a ton of vegetarian friendly options. The menu was really comprehensive and had lots of choices for everyone (from Mexican to burgers)! The margaritas here were FANTASTIC! They had just enough alcohol to get ya feeling good after just one but they still tasted amazing. After dinner, we went down to the basement, where they had bags, ping pong, jenga, and karaoke! They also had another full bar. Wow, what fun it was down there! In order to play ping pong and other games you needed to use your ID to check out the materials. Other than that, it was really easy to play all the games! The karaoke was so much fun. They had a huge book of songs to sing! Everyone was having such a blast singing and dancing. On the top floor of the B.O.B, there was EVE. EVE is more of a nightclub scene with swankier drinks, roped off couches and a dance floor. It was packed up there and everyone was dancing and singing. They played good music that I could sing along and dance to. I had so much fun up here. Finally, we ended our night on the first floor, where there was a live band playing country music covers. I absolutely loved this. There wasn't a ton of people there but nonetheless it was so much fun. This was such a great place for a night out! Next time, I come here, I will have to explore more of the first floor. WE didn't have time to explore the several bars that were located here! The B.O.B definitely has something for everyone. We stopped going to the Bob a couple years ago and after coming in tonight I'm glad we gave it another chance. We went down to Gillys and loved the menu. There were a ton of fun options and we were excited to order. We started with the roasted Brussel sprouts and they were fantastic!! For our entrees I ordered the lobster roll and my wife had the baked mac and cheese. The lobster roll had a ton of lobster and great flavor, although I would have preferred if the bread wasn't so thick. I had to rip the ends off in order to eat it. The service was good at first but the later it got the more sparse the service was. Overall a good trip! Will for sure be coming back to try other fun menu items!! read more

Come on!!! The drinks are not cheap, and it was not busy. This has been the case a few times now. My fiancé and I were here tonight with some friends; we had the meat sampler with a couple sides (mac and cheese, grilled vegetables and elote corn). Food was pretty good; while leaving to go home, I realized I had left my winter hat, and that's when the excitement started. The doorman (bouncer?) said I needed my ID to get back in, which I didn't have (though I was served a beer). I said that while I didn't have my hat, we had just walked by them and moments before had just spent $100 on food and drink. The doorman insisted that I leave; when I persisted that I wanted to go back to get my hat, the doorman put me in a chokehold and forced me out the door. Then, his coworker threatened to harm me by mentioning that he was a boxer. While the Bob narrowly averted a costly lawsuit, It was all very exciting/scary, but my friend was able to retrieve my hat. Got kicked out by the rudest and un-compassionate bouncer for using the men's bathroom (after ladies had been using it all night AND the 3 men that were in the bathroom said it was cool if I came in to pee in one of their stalls) as the ladies line was at least 30 people long (men's bathroom had no line whatsoever). I couldn't hold it any longer, but I was a minute away from peeing my pants. Anyways, the bouncer ripped open the stall door on me and then forced me out. Even after pleading to him my phone and rest of my stuff was with my boyfriend and the rest of our group. He literally threw me out on the sidewalk in the cold with nothing ALL FOR USING THE MENS BATHROOM. I happened to find a worker outside and asked him to find my boyfriend and our friends to let them know what was going on, which he did, and I'm so thankful for him. He even offered to let me use his phone. This business doesn't care about you or your safety, so don't care about them either. I spent 45 minutes waiting in line to get in the business, at least a half hour in line to get to the upper floors, and then at least $100 (cover charge & drinks) and I got thrown out on the sidewalk in the cold as a young female with nothing for peeing in an empty men's bathroom. I was at the BOB Saturday the 26th of January waiting to get in. An older woman walked outside from the building and immediately came back in when she was stopped by the security at the door. I heard her tell them she was just inside and needed to go get her friend because their ride was there and her coat was inside. I witness this security person push her with both his hands and tell her to leave unless she paid again to come in. She refused to pay and he pushed her all the way outside into the cold. Then he turned to a group of five young females and allowed them to come in without paying ahead of everyone who had been waiting in line. Really interesting place to be at on a Friday or Saturday night! I have been staying in a hotel across the street from it for years and finally decided to go in it with a guest. Yes there is a $5 cover charge, however, you're paying for 3 levels of bar! Different types of music on all levels of the bar as well. There are sooooo many people inside at any given time but everyone is very friendly and the bartenders are incredibly efficient with many different types of drinks to order on any of the levels. I am not too sure about parking because I simply was in the hotel across the street, but I am sure that something is nearby to hold that many people effectively. I would definitely recommend stopping in at this place like I did on your way through Grand Rapids! read more
