Catfish, fries, homemade tartar sauce 3
    Lowell O.

This is as close to five stars as I can give a restaurant where you order at the counter, grab your own plastic ware, pour your own water and then come get your own food when they call your name. But if you don't mind you're your restaurant being run like a Starbucks, you'll love it here. A very friendly person took our order and checked on us regularly. So we felt cared for even though it was technically self serve. The catfish here was honestly better than Paw-Paw's in Bastrop. The hushpuppies were great. The fries were very lightly battered and very delicious. The tartar sauce was homemade. What's not to like? I mean, they were out of coleslaw that day, but that happens. The BLTA is the perfect BLT sandwich plus fresh avacado. I could spend two or three hours thinking about how to make it just slightly better and come back with nothing. It was the perfect BLTA, though and through. Stash IPAs rounded out the meal. The walls and ceiling are decorated with props and memorabilia from Hope Floats and other movies that were filmed here. It was a great meal, we enjoyed our time here, and we'll definitely be back. I prefer a wait staff to self serve. And I prefer to pay and make tip decisions at the end of a meal, instead of up front. But our experience here was otherwise flawless.

We were in Smithville for a shopping trip to Consuela when we decided to get something for lunch. This restaurant has many options of entrees. I have the Taco Salad with chicken with salsa as dressing. The restaurant interior is decorated with memorabilia from movies filmed in Smithville. My favorites are the items from Hope Floats.

Anyone that gives pockets Grill less than five star simply doesn't understand with good food is. They're probably used to cheap fast food, probably something like soda and nuggets. Pocket grill is absolutely amazing. Let me tell you what, the burgers wings and pizza are top notch. I will go into detail below. Food: 5/5 The food here is simply amazing. I went with their seven dollar lunch special which was a burger with cheese some fries. The burger was grilled to perfection and very tasty. The fries were exceptionally well, very crispy crunchy. I had a bacon to my burger amazing. We also got some wings as an appetizer. Let me tell you what, the wings here are absolutely amazing. The wings are humongous, they are full of flavor and they are very fresh. Someone at my table got pizza and it look really good as well. That will be the next thing I try when I'm in town. I was blown away by Pockets Grille. I'm telling you right now anyone to give this place five stars less. Or less than five stars you simply don't know good food. This food is great. I will stop here every single time that I'm in Smithville. This will be put into my Smithville rotation. Or if you're on the way to Austin do yourself a favor and stop. Customer service: the customer service was absolutely great. The lady work on the cash register was very personable and took good care of us. The food came out quick. I really don't know how this place got a few bad reviews. Because I'm telling you right now it's a five-star experience.

There were plenty of drink options to choose from, and the menu definitely caught our attention, which is what brought us in. We started with the nachos with beef. They were pretty good overall, though the Velveeta-style cheese wasn't our favorite. The meat lovers pizza was a hit -- thin crust, well-cooked, and full of flavor. The main reason we came was for the chicken wings, and unfortunately, those were a bit disappointing and left us wanting more. However, the owner personally came over to apologize and explained that those were not the wings they normally serve. He even comped us $10 in cash, which was a very appreciated and classy gesture. The staff was friendly throughout our visit, and because of how the situation was handled, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and plan to come back again to let them redeem themselves.

I was with a large party and we were seated on an outdoor deck area that overlooks a lovely greenbelt and the Colorado river. The drinks were excellent, I had a margarita on the rocks with tajin rim and it was tasty and refreshing. The food was fabulous! I highly recommend the meatballs. Everyone in our party could not get enough of them. I will be back to try the wings, they looked delish. Misty was our server and I am still in awe over her. She went out of her way to make sure everyone in our (very large) party was taken care of. There were dozens of us and I'm not even sure how she managed to do it but I realized afterwards, I never waited long for anything. Misty was always nearby and so kind and attentive. Im not sure how she took care of so many people at once, it was amazing, honestly. Ive never seen such efficiency and I don't know how she did it. I hope I'm lucky enough to see her again when I go back to sample those wings!

Who knew Bastrop, Texas, would have some of the best pizza and pasta I've had in a long time?…read more I'm in town for a six-week work assignment and decided to try Bastiano's for takeout. All I can say is wow. I ordered the creamy garlic pasta with chicken, spinach, bacon, and onions, along with a supreme pizza, and both were outstanding. The pasta was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor without being overly heavy. The chicken was tender, the bacon added the perfect savory bite, and the spinach and onions balanced everything beautifully. Then there was the pizza. This wasn't one of those pizzas where you have to hunt for toppings. Every slice was loaded with pepperoni, ham, sausage, olives, mushrooms, and vegetables. The crust had a great texture, the cheese was perfectly melted, and every bite was packed with flavor. One of the best parts is the value. The portions were generous enough that this takeout order will easily feed me for several days, which makes the quality even more impressive. As someone who wasn't expecting to discover amazing Italian food in Bastrop, Bastiano's was a pleasant surprise. If you're local or just passing through town, do yourself a favor and give them a try. I'll definitely be ordering again before my assignment is over.

I built my own white pizza with garlic butter herb sauce, fresh mozz, mushrooms, and Italian sausage. It was pretty tasty. I was STARVING so maybe that amplified the flavor. This brings me to my next point... Pizza takes FOREVER. I clocked it and it was a full hour from the moment we ordered. This was particularly unpleasant because I was waiting in the car with my two bored and hungry toddlers. If you have kids, you get it. Not ideal. By the way, we tried to call ahead and no one picked up the phone (we tried a couple times). I should also add that the prices are very reasonable here. The kids menu pizzas are very cheap and more than enough food to fill them up.

I noticed it's a bit limited on burgers and sandwiches but perhaps good for the area and easy for the staff to make. We ordered and added some pies, paid in cash for the discount and left to fill our cups. The cashier and another employee had conversations amongst themselves while we were ordering and paying. Felt a bit awkward since we didn't want to interrupt their hugging and or whatever they were doing. The sweet tea stayed mostly empty but lots of unsweetened tea. We dove right into our pies first. The Almond Joy didn't taste like the candy bar as much as an amaretto coconut pie but really good! The buttermilk pie was really good too. I ordered the chicken poblano "burger". The lettuce was sadly very soggy as was the whole sandwich. Thankfully the bun was toasted because there was way too much mayo. I noticed right away that it was just bland. The chicken was thick which is great but it was bland on bland on bland. No poblano flavor. I looked for the peppers. They were grilled/sautéed and thin. Soggy sitting under the lettuce. No flavor. The fries weren't anything special but the crunch. The tea was sadly tasteless as well. I really wish there was more to say. My mom's sandwich was just sort of...there. Nothing special to talk about. I'd go again for pie and coffee alone and only if I was desperate for something to eat. There may be better places to eat in town. It's slow paced inside.
