After leaving another local establishment due to poor service, we decided to take a chance with this place. The menu is huge, so no reason to not find something to your liking! A quiet place with a lot of what seemed to be "to-go" orders and a few dining in while we were there. Great decor from the movie made in the town "Hope Floats". The burgers were delicious and served warm. My only reason for 4/5 stars, is the lack of beer selection. My kiddo loves this place because of the genius playground out front. Makes for a fun family dinner! Food is always pretty good! I would like a few healthier options, but the sandwiches can fill that gap a little. Order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. Only thing that we really hate that keeps us from going here more often is the water- it's so gross the fountain drinks can't mask the taste of it in the ice. This is as close to five stars as I can give a restaurant where you order at the counter, grab your own plastic ware, pour your own water and then come get your own food when they call your name. But if you don't mind you're your restaurant being run like a Starbucks, you'll love it here. A very friendly person took our order and checked on us regularly. So we felt cared for even though it was technically self serve. The catfish here was honestly better than Paw-Paw's in Bastrop. The hushpuppies were great. The fries were very lightly battered and very delicious. The tartar sauce was homemade. What's not to like? I mean, they were out of coleslaw that day, but that happens. The BLTA is the perfect BLT sandwich plus fresh avacado. I could spend two or three hours thinking about how to make it just slightly better and come back with nothing. It was the perfect BLTA, though and through. Stash IPAs rounded out the meal. The walls and ceiling are decorated with props and memorabilia from Hope Floats and other movies that were filmed here. It was a great meal, we enjoyed our time here, and we'll definitely be back. I prefer a wait staff to self serve. And I prefer to pay and make tip decisions at the end of a meal, instead of up front. We come to Pocket's on a regular basis. The staff is friendly, knows our names, and always a smile when they see us. I've eaten many hamburgers around the world, but Pocket's is the best. We love to bring guests here and introduce them to the food. I really like that the "fixin's" are available for me to add. The fries are also outstanding. My favorite was the fried okra which is no longer available, and wish they would have onion rings, but that is a minor thing. Anyone that gives pockets Grill less than five star simply doesn't understand with good food is. They're probably used to cheap fast food, probably something like soda and nuggets. Pocket grill is absolutely amazing. Let me tell you what, the burgers wings and pizza are top notch. I will go into detail below. Food: 5/5 The food here is simply amazing. I went with their seven dollar lunch special which was a burger with cheese some fries. The burger was grilled to perfection and very tasty. The fries were exceptionally well, very crispy crunchy. I had a bacon to my burger amazing. We also got some wings as an appetizer. Let me tell you what, the wings here are absolutely amazing. The wings are humongous, they are full of flavor and they are very fresh. Someone at my table got pizza and it look really good as well. That will be the next thing I try when I'm in town. I was blown away by Pockets Grille. I'm telling you right now anyone to give this place five stars less. Or less than five stars you simply don't know good food. This food is great. I will stop here every single time that I'm in Smithville. This will be put into my Smithville rotation. Or if you're on the way to Austin do yourself a favor and stop. Stopped in for lunch on a trip the other day. We got in before the lunch rush and were pleasantly surprised. The gal who took our order came over shortly afterwards to apologize. They were out of grilled chicken for the chicken salad my wife wanted, so she ordered a fried chicken sandwich. I ordered a catfish lunch. Sometimes a small place, off the beaten track can be great. That was the case here. Everything was freshly made. My catfish was fresh, not frozen. The fries were hot and crisp. The lettuce and tomatoes on my wife's sandwich were really fresh too. I wish I could understand what all the hype is about this restaurant. Took my grandchildren and one other there for dinner the night before last. The service was minimal at best, the food was just okay. I had a burger with bacon and cheese. The burger was blah, had absolutely no flavor, the bacon flavor was okay, but I've had better. I did like that the bacon was thick cut, just with little flavor. The kids ordered 2 pizzas, and let's just say they were just happy to have something to eat. For 2 pizza's, 1 large, the other small, a bacon cheeseburger and a kids meal cheeseburger the bill was extremely high. Top that off, we waited 45 minutes to get our food, while walk-Ins ordered and received their food within minutes. When I inquired on our order, the young lady was either not in a good mood or maybe in pain(?). I don't know... she wasn't rude, but she never cracked a smile. Overall I found the whole experience dreadful. I honestly can say that I do not recommend Pockets Grill. The food is way overpriced and the overall service is quite lacking. read more

They regularly run out of food, there is no management on site; just a bunch of kids who are often rude and incompetent. Today was no exception. My wife ordered nachos but we found out on ordering that they were out of nachos. We then placed an order for three other entrees and an appetizer. We asked for an update 3 times only to be told 15 more minutes. After 30 minutes the cashier told me that the kitchen had taken a break and had not started my order but they were starting at that point. I overheard the cashier tell someone they had no cheese, no pizza, and were out of most other items. Hearing this I asked about the quesadillas we ordered more than 45 minutes earlier were being made. About 5 minutes later they told me they could not make 2 of my entrees and the appetizer.
