Not bad for a small town. Food was good. Got a little smoky from cooking from kitchen. Service was a little slow.

First time trying this place after coming through this small town for many years going to Warrenton and Round Top for the Antique Shows. Love the old town style of this place. I image an old saloon when entering this place. It was packed tight inside. The wait to be seated was about 30 min. But that told me the food must be good! The service was southern friendly like I expected. The kitchen was smoking like a hat stack and the smoke filled up the dining area. I'm not sure if that is the norm but it seemed to me to be more than what should be expected. We ordered our food and waited another 35 min before our food came out. Again, not sure if that is the norm or because of the Antique Show traffic but it seemed like a bit long. The waitress apologized for the delay in the food without us saying anything at all so I suppose it was not normal. I was with a friend so we had good conversation so no problem. The food was scrumptious! Some of the best fried catfish I have had and the French fries were too! Even the coleslaw was better than most places I've had it. All in all worth the wait and I will be back!

It's very country looking, so that was appealing. We started with the fried pickles for an appetizer to share. Our group was a party of 3. The pickles were a perfect split for us. The ranch served with the pickles had a tartar sauce undertone taste. It was pretty good. We all had the sweet tea and lemonade mix. It was refreshing. I ordered the regular JW's burger on a classic white bun. The burger was okay. There was no special seasoning to it. I wasn't able to order it medium. From the looks of it, it was "done", so that is a little too done for me. I like mine a little pink. They use leaf lettuce. I prefer shredded. The pickles on my burger were cut lengthwise, and 2 of the strips still had the outer skin on them. Not a fan of that. The fries were good. They had a nice crunch to them. The service was great at JW's. Our drinks were never empty, the food came out fast, and our waitress was very nice. You can't get better than country service. It was a nice change from Houston where everything is hustle and bustle. We all three split a piece of coconut pie. It was okay, but to be fair, I am not a pie person. My coworkers thought it was terrific. If I am out that way again and decide to stop in, I will order something different. Maybe the chicken fried steak. The neighboring table ordered it and it looked good! Our bill for the 3 of us was $71 and some change before tip. That seems on point for 1 appetizer, 3 drinks, 3 entrees, and 1 piece of pie. It was crowded, especially for a weekday after the lunch rush in the country, so they must be doing something right.

I will say that the prices are on a steeper side; however, the portions are also generous. We had a pleasant meal here and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for good, southern comfort food.

The waitress was excellent about helping me with my gluten-free issue. The menu does have several items that are specifically marked GF, but with the hamburger, you can opt for no bun and a lettuce wrap. Now their fries are not gluten-free, but you can get the baked potato, which was really good. They didn't even upcharge me. Very nice! We were hesitant with the scores, but steak is steak. The place has a weird western theme. I can't quite explain it but I will try. It's like cowboy, but not modern, but not to old, but like early 2000s old? I give up. The staff were amazing!! Polite, and checked on us constantly. It wasn't too empty, but still surprised it wasn't more crowded on the weekend. They stared us off with two rolls of bread and butter. I loved it! The midget not so much. He isn't a fan of any non white bread. Oh well there was two for me! We started off with a wrapped shrimp and chicken appetizer. Ok so I will start with this. For the price we were expecting more than 4 pieces. Yet they were amazing! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The bed of thinly cut onion rings underneath was a great idea! The only thing we didn't like was a pinkish sauce that tasted a little like thousand island. Just no..... I had the boss top 12 oz medium rare, with a grilled chicken salad, and a side of green beans. The midget had the Nancys cheeseburger. First my steak was cooked perfectly! The only gripe was that it was under seasoned. It needed salt and pepper. The green beans on the side.. I've never had them like this. Grilled and seasoned. They were delicious! Had a snap and very well seasoned! The salad was fresh and the chicken was great. I threw on some of the fried onion from our appetizer and it was WOW! His burger was good. Again just missing the seasoning on the patty. Great bun and ratio of beef to veggies. Tons of fries. For us it was semi affordable. Other than the quantity of the appetizer, we were ok with the portions and prices. If the seasoning on the meats was better may have considered a 5 maybe. We may visit in the future if in the area.

I can then decide if I want that item and what the charge is. Since neither were provided, I was surprised to see it on my bill. I did not question the charge, it was just deleted from the tip. I will probably return however this is a teaching moment, if you are going to charge extra for a client's request, tell them you are and what the charge is. If not for this issue, my rating would have been higher.
