This is the kind of place we need more of. It's new, so it has some growing opportunities with it, but the outdoor space is fantastic. The operation seems to be run by a family, which I love, and the space itself is excellent for kids or hanging out on a nice sunny day. For the food, my wife had the breakfast box, I had a grilled cheese. The breakfast box was enjoyed sans the hashbrown, which didn't need additional salt on it, but otherwise was solid. The grilled cheese was excellent, strongly recommend adding grilled onions. Our friend had the margarite (sp?) tartine, and that was freaking dy-no-mite. Will definitely be getting that next time we stop by, which will be soon, cause places like this one need to exist. read more

Sweet little oasis in Richmond. Normally on the drive back from the outdoors in Northbay, we just zoom on past Richmond on the freeway. We were starving this time and saw this place. It's an odd little patch of land that has been turned into this nice outdoor space. Good food, if a bit pricy, excellent beer selection, fun little games for everyone to pass the time. A lovely addition to the eateries in the community. You want a family friendly spot to hang and eat? This is the place. You got a dog? Bring them too! They have heaters to keep you warm during the chilly days and tall palm trees and shades to keep you cool during the hot afternoons. The burgers are cooked to perfection and the hospitality is on point! If you have a large group of folks, this is a great place to have a lil outing. This place is such a gem! It really feels like someone's backyard, with the games and heat lamps for cold weather. The food is excellent. I had the burger and fries. I find a good fry tells you pretty much what you need to know about a place and these were GOOD! Crisp on the outside, softy on the inside and nice and salty. The portions were generous as well. My husband had the grill cheese. It was even better than the burger. Can't wait to go back to try the rest of the food. Perhaps the best thing about the place, is you can just relax and hang out. I generally do not review restaurants but thought it might be helpful for cyclists to know that this place is a great stop, especially for anyone going to or coming from the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge. We stopped here yesterday for lunch mid-way through a ride. It was easy to access with the bikes (right along the path on Cutting Blvd) and there was plenty of room for the bikes at our table while not getting in the way of other guests. The fenced-in seating area (outside only) is spacious -- there are many different options (tables, Adirondack chairs, bar-type seating with stools, etc.) and a lot of it is shaded. The BLT was the best one I've had in a very long while (perfectly toasted Acme bread, lots of fresh lettuce and ripe tomatoes). Husband also gave his Backyard burger a thumbs up. Speaking to the owner, who was super-friendly both when I was ordering and when she came out to clear tables, it sounds like there may be beer sometime soon. There were two big dispensers of water that sit directly beneath the faucets (so you don't feel bad that someone will need to manually fill the dispensers after you re-fill your bottle). As other reviews have mentioned, there is a porta potty and a handwashing station -- nothing fancy but they get the job done. It was a little windy/chilly riding along the shoreline yesterday, but it was nice and warm/calm at The Backyard. And I made a new friend -- Uela, she's FOUR! read more

Food is ok. Nothing you can't get at another food truck or any other place serving toast and burgers. The service is what really makes this spot "unique". Halfway through eating our meal a person came out of the pick up window to clean our table because " I heard you needed it cleaned". Didn't ask if we minded and didn't ask for us to pick up our food so they could spray and clean. The person proceeded to spray the table and started wiping with the towel. Grabbed my plastic cup by the rim with their dirty gloved hands. I asked for the cup to be taken since i was not going to drink from it. The person took the cup after wiping the table that was still dirty when they walked away. Cleaning the table was not their intention. This place is unsanitary with rude and unapologetic staff. One of the worst food experiences I have had in a long time. There are better options to eat in Pt. Richmond where you will feel welcome and treated with respect. Thank you for the response Emmet, although it didn't address the concerns above. What a great addition to our little neighborhood in Point Richmond! Hidden in this low-key backyard destination is some absolutely terrific food. We are big fans of their burgers and the BLT, I love them so much that i have not ventured into trying their other menu offerings, but I will! All the folks who work there are super friendly. The food was delicious and service was good, it's outdoors and a cute family-friendly set up. However, the owner took our order and he had the dirtiest fingernails I've ever seen. I'm wondering what the hand-washing facilities are. Is it possible for the people cooking in the little food truck to wash their hands? There's a porta potty in the parking lot and I don't know if there's a place to wash hands in it. If that is the on;y place for hand-washing, I don't think it's enough. Cooks need to wash hands frequently and can't schlep across the parking lot each time they need to wash. read more
