The food is always very good, and we've generally had positive experiences here. We visited on Saturday, June 27, 2026. Our server was excellent--friendly, attentive, and handled the situation professionally. Unfortunately, we had a very strange interaction with either the chef or the manager. My friend is a vegetarian and specifically asked for her omelette to be made without bacon. My mom ordered the same omelette with bacon. When the food arrived, my friend began eating her omelette before realizing it contained chunks of bacon. We politely asked if it could be remade. After the server took the plate back to the kitchen, the chef/manager came to our table. Instead of simply apologizing and remaking the dish, he appeared to question whether my friend was telling the truth about there being bacon in the omelette. He even brought the omelette back to the table and seemed to be trying to convince her to eat it, despite her explaining that she is a vegetarian. Mistakes happen, and we understand that. What was disappointing wasn't the mistake itself, but how it was handled. The interaction felt confrontational and dismissive, which made an otherwise enjoyable meal uncomfortable. We appreciate how well our server handled the situation, but we hope management addresses how dietary requests and customer concerns are treated in the future. read more

What's the point of handing out the special's menu at 7:30am today 3/1/2026 and when 3 members of your party are told the 3 different specials are not available and can't even get it with substitutions....... Not to mention one plate came out , that's right one order out of 4. 30min. later we decided to leave because the rest of us never got our food and no one ever came back to the table to check on us. The Briskillet was tasty though with the meat, potato, fried onion, and veggies! I definitely enjoyed it more with Chalula sauce on it. The potatoes got a little tiring after a bit, but still solid. I got buttermilk pancakes as a side and I was surprised by the size of the entire order for around $20. We were also seated right away. My friend ordered Eggs Your Way with blueberry lemon pancakes and an iced matcha latte. Such a nice location! I went with friends on a Sunday morning for brunch and it was packed. There is ample parking in the lot but you may have to circle a couple times. The food was delicious as always with the honey biscuits with their homemade jam being my favorite. I've been going to buttermilk since their Naperville location first opened and I'm loving their downers grove location, as well, as it's a bit more central for some friends. My husband and I went to this new location of Buttermilk for Brunch. It is spacious and they have a few booths, and plenty of tables. The food was good. They have vegan and gluten-free options. Where they fail is service and their prices are far too high. We had a fairly long wait for menus and a 15 minute wait for the server to come and take out order. My husband had the Eggs Benedict and requested shredded has browns vs. The standard cubed potatoes, with the hash browns served on the side so that I could share (I do not eat meat). There was an upcharge for the shredded potatoes, plus a $2 charge for plate sharing. Only one meal with no beverages was ordered, yet the check was over $20. They do not have QR code menus or a way to pay without waiting for the check, paying the server and then another wait for the server to return with your card. I was shocked and appalled to see pickle slices on it cuz they're not mentioned on the menu item, and I have a horror of dill pickles. LUCKILY, the lovely server and manager checked with the chef to find they're not DILL, they're SPICY so I dared to taste them and I lived! (Believe they're spicy bread & butter pickles, which are suitable for human consumption unlike dill.) Kind manager appreciated my feedback for the next menu update lest an even more rabid dill pickle-hater send back the dish! It was really nice to be able to have that room, especially that you can reserve it. Just do it in advance of 3 days at least. I have to say their food is just something else. It is really good. It has unique menu items that I don't see at other places. Even comparing it to Wildberry, they have more unique options, but just to note, their pancakes aren't as good as Wildberry's. I love the indoor seating area, the design is really nice. Yes, sometimes the service can be slow, but just speak up. They'll take care of you. I always used to say that Wildberry has the best sweet potato fries, but these come pretty close, if not exactly as good as Wildberry's. What a beautiful, new Buttermilk location! This may be THE best designed location of the four. The inside is very spacious with a large coffee bar, (2) open dining areas, and even a smaller private dining space if needed. The parking was a bit difficult based on how crowded the restaurant was. Either way, I didn't have to wait longer than 10 minutes for a table. Their menu included all of their classic items. They have almost too many options that sound good. Be aware that portions are huge so come hungry, split a dish, or expect leftovers. I split the Croissant Sandwich with Bacon. This made the portion perfect for me. The bacon wasn't cooked quite as I requested but everything else tasted great about it! Our server checked on us often and was nice; but, definitely seemed to be pushing us out at the end. Came in on a Saturday AM, busy but we were seated in a fairly normal amount of time! Very bright and welcoming, not too loud which was great as well! We weren't yelling over one another to communicate which is always a plus. Service was okay, very lack luster. Nothing was recommended, just an unenthusiastic body with a tablet. We never got her name. Food was INSANELY good. I don't like breakfast food but we finished every bite. Lemon blueberry pancakes, biscuits and gravy and the stuffed biscuit were all amazing. My issue was the bar drinks. From the time they were sent (again, there was a tablet) we watched our drinks sit on the counter for 11 minutes. Our mimosa was completely separated and room temp and the frozen espresso was very milky by the time we got them. Again, our server never checked back and they didn't even bring the drinks or food. We actually only saw them again when it was time to pay lol. We stilled tipped 20% but I wish we would have spoke up and said something. This is a new location so there's room for improvement all around. But, prob would ask for a diff server if I was sat in their section again. Don't skip the food though guys! The restaurant is clean and has a nice, cozy farm-style vibe. I ordered the corned beef hash, which came with a tasty honey muffin. Food is amazing, I have had breakfast food, sandwiches, and salads, they never disappoint. And the biscuits are out of this world. I was disappointed this past Sunday, I ordered a kale salad with chicken. The salad came without chicken so I followed up with the server. He brought the chicken, but then proceeded to charge me for a side of chicken at $6.79 rather than the $3 up charge if you add protein to the salad. So essentially, I was being penalized for his mistake. Unfortunately, I did not see this until after we had settled the bill so I did not bring it up. It just stung to pay twice as much for the chicken that I really didn't eat because it arrived by the time I was full. First time at Buttermilk, been watching the construction waiting for it to open, and my wife and I finally made it this morning. Unfortunately, while our waitstaff was attentive, it took fifteen minutes to get our coffee and another twenty minutes to get our food (after our waitress checked with the kitchen two separate times). The food was lukewarm, and they totally forgot a course (our french toast...we had to remind our waitress to remove it from our bill since it never came). The waitress acknowledged and apologized throughout the brunch...we never saw a manager, although the "manager" took $5 off our bill for our troubles. Hard to go back to a place that charges $20 for room temp chicken and biscuits, makes you wait almost 40 minutes for your food, forgets your french toast, and the manager can't be bothered to even check in. read more
