My out of town family found this great GF bakery and eatery when looking for a place to get a cake for my birthday. I told them I'd heard about it and they searched. happily found it, and purchased a very fab chocolate cake. One of my girls loves to decorate so they bought just plain and decorated it. They also purchased cookies and sweets for the occasion, all awesome. I recently was on the East side of ABQ, looked up the address and found it was close to I40, so decided to try it myself. Very unassuming building, with little identification but so happy I stopped. Inside was clean, well lit, and lots of choices for sweets, and not so sweet pizzas, pie crusts, ready to bake options and of course, cakes, doughnuts, cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls. Helpful staff but not pushy, although I'm not sure if they were reluctant to offer help to avoid being pushy, but as a first time customer, I would have enjoyed being greeted and acknowledged a bit friendlier. Maybe just like " welcome, is this your first time here/" because it is a bit overwhelming in what is offered. There is a nice area to sit and enjoy your food in the back, although it was a bit dark, and not well marked, but very clean and cozy. I have been back a couple of more times and now that I know it is close to my major West to East driving path I will definitely add to my regular stops on that side of town. I had been seeing posts about their pizza, so my daughter and I decided to stop in and give it a try. We each ordered a personal pizza, hers was the dairy-free pesto, and mine was topped with pepperoni and bacon. We also got a mushroom and mozzarella quiche . The pizza crust was really good, honestly one of the better gluten-free crusts I've had. The quiche was good as well. One of the things I appreciated most was being able to eat without worrying about cross-contamination since the entire facility is gluten-free. That peace of mind is hard to find in New Mexico. Before leaving, we grabbed a cinnamon roll and a pecan sticky bun to go. They both looked really good! We heated them up when we got gone and both were great. As a gluten-free eater, it's not always easy to find sweet items that taste great. Oftentimes gluten-free desserts are dry but at the Bakehouse Off the Wheaten Path the dressers are phenomenal. We got an amazing pumpkin praline pie for Christmas and it did not disappoint. The flavors were great. The Bundt cake is super moist and delicious. Donut night at church wouldn't have been the same had I not heard about the goodies offered at The Bakehouse off The Wheaten Path but I can say I didn't have to worry about that because this celiac safe kitchen did me a solid with their beautiful bundt cake and chocolate brownie bar. The outside of the building is rather unassuming but walking inside you're met with bright lights, the smell of fresh baking and friendly people helping you out to make sure you're happy with your order. 5/5 will return as hubby and I not so secretly enjoyed this gluten free option over regular donuts anytime! read more

Popped in on Memorial Day and was glad it was open. Wide variety of desserts but we had the urge for savory. We chose the mini quiches - mushroom and pepperoni. Not at all bad. We were the only customers and the place was much larger on the inside than it looked on the outside. Staff was friendly. I hate writing bad reviews but feels like we wasted money, I know with gluten free you win some and lose some but this was so disappointing. I wanted to love it so much. My sweet husband ordered a cake for my 40th birthday, since I have gone gluten free it's hard to find cakes, he ordered with vanilla cake with fruit. fruit. First, it did not come with fruit, second was so dense and was kind of hard almost like an old corn bread, and it didn't have much flavor I couldn't tell if it was vanilla. This place is a hidden gem! I love that it's a 100% gluten-free facility. All of the treats I've had so far have been delicious! We've been there nearly every weekend for the last couple of months! I love that they have take-and-bake cinnamon rolls! They also serve coffee, tea and kombucha! While it's in a bit of a run-down location, the inside is like a cute little coffee shop. There's tradition tables and chairs but also a couch! It's a hoppin' little spot. I've been a few times where the line had gone to the door. Absolutely adore this place!! Super spacious on the inside, tea and coffee served here, and the baked goods are a league above!! Everyone is so nice here and everything is gluten free!! Most things are also vegan or DF which is amazing!! I've had so many baked goods in my lifetime, but I think these may be some of the best, allergen or no allergen! The GF/vegan green chille cheddar muffins are life changing!! We stopped here on our way to Utah and absolutely had to stop on the way back through! A must stop!! read more

What kind of cafe/bakery is not open on Sunday? This is the second time I have needed to get birthday pastries for someone for a Sunday celebration. If you go in on Saturday there is not much left by 2:00 pm. What should people who work on Saturday do? Pastries bought on Friday morning for a Sunday celebration? STALE. I will give credit where it is due and they have tasty gluten free/Celiac safe items. My problem is I called to see if I could order a cake hoping for possibly same day or next day pick up. When I asked if it was too late at 9:25 am to order a cake for that afternoon, I was literally laughed at and then "Yes, I need at least a weeks notice". REALLY..a week to bake a cake. I get 1-2 days and they could have handled my question in SO many different ways. Just because you have a little niche business does not absolve you from good customer service. I won't go into cost..but a $7 mix and frosting does not equal a $75 dollar plus cake and raw ingredients from scratch are less, let alone 7 days to make. Very disappointed in the service. read more

I had a gluten free guest visiting Albuquerque this weekend AND it was her birthday so I visited Bakehouse on Friday morning in a bit of a panic. Man, they did not disappoint. Not only did I get two cupcakes, I also bought a couple varieties of muffins, biscuits and close to a dozen pastries to make sure she felt appropriately celebrated. Not only did she love every single item but everyone in the house dug in and were all singing the praises of this bakery. That's not easy to do when there's not a mm of gluten in any of the items. I had the salted caramel tart and a London Fog latte. Both were delightful. My husband had a green chile and cheese scone and the bite I tried was SO WONDERFUL I made him drive me back there to get another one! They also have "take and bake" items available like cinnamon rolls and pie crusts. Some dairy free and vegan items are available, as well! So I needed a couple bits of baked goods for two gluten-free friends and discovered this place on this site. (Yay, Yelp!) The address was near where I was running errands so I stopped in about 15 minutes before closing. The proprietor (lovely) apologized for their stock being low but what was there was EXACTLY what I would have chosen: a couple lemon bars and caramel brownies. I got a couple of each for my friends and of course I HAD to buy one of each to take home. Just to make sure, you know? (Also, Spouse is GF and doesn't do treats too often, so I picked up a small lemon poppy-seed loaf, his fave.) We devoured the lemon bar and OMG, the taste and texture were absolutely perfect! Seriously: Perfect!! That didn't last a whole minute in our house. The brownie was likewise delicious and the icing was soft, creamy, and heavenly. (I'm from the can't-have-too-much-icing school of food-thought, and there's a really decent icing-to-brownie ratio happening here. Plus it's GOOD icing, not like the thick, gummy stuff I've found elsewhere.) I have come up for air but that brownie will not last the hour here. Of course I couldn't write this review without nibbling on the lemon poppy cake, and found it to be likewise wonderful. Light, lemony, and delicious. For what it's worth, I am not particularly gluten sensitive and have steered away from GF baked goods in the past. However, this is definitely a place I look forward to visiting again. Soon. My sister who has Celiac's Disease came to visit me in ABQ. Our family went to the Bakehouse and we were all very pleased with the selection of items and the taste. My cinnamon roll was delicious! My sister was delighted to be able to choose any item that was for sale and purchased a selection of items share and enjoy. The ambiance is casual with a lovely autumn tree mural on the back wall. There were plenty of seating options and we noticed several people enjoying their pastry with coffee while working on their computers. The service was fast and we appreciated having a quiet corner to sit and visit for a while. read more

We visited this store yesterday and am glad we found it. The baked goods were all amazing (and gluten free) and were thoroughly enjoyed. The ambience is peaceful and cozy (it's much bigger inside) with tables, counters, and a couch. The customer service was great, also. The help was friendly and attentive. I appreciated all of these things. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was bc of the drip coffee. My group all found the coffee extremely weak - as in 1/2 strength - which was a disappointment. We tried this place on Saturday near closing time. Not a good idea. They were getting a last minute rush and there wasn't a lot to choose from. We ordered a latte and coffee with our pastries. My coffee was a little weak but I'm wondering if it was actually an Americano? My husband said his iced latte was good. My husband got the lemon bar and another pastry. He doesn't eat gluten free but he liked them. I got the donut and velvet cookie. Don't let the appearance from the outside fool you. It's very cute and updated inside and there is plenty of room for groups. Next time we'll go earlier. I have to eat dairy free so there were only two options left for me.
