    Biscochitos (85¢/ea)
    John D.

Crown to Earth Golden Crown Panaderia might be the most celebrated bakery in the whole state of New Mexico, and it was started back in 1972 by a most unlikely person, Pratt Morales. Chef Morales served as an accountant in the Air Force before deciding to dedicate his life to the art of bread-making and the pursuit of yeasty goodness. He and his bakery have been featured in a multitude of magazines like Conde Naste Traveler, NatGeo, and Gourmet magazine, as well as a plethora of TV shows, including Food Network's Food Finds (2004) and their pizzas were featured recently on Guy Fieri's Triple-D (aka Diners, Drive-ins and Dives S18:E7). While the bakery has expanded in recent years beyond their initial offerings of cookies and breads, as they now feature sandwiches, a full-service café, Empanadas, as well as the aforementioned pizzas. But we came here for one thing: Biscochitos (Buh-skuh-chee-towz). Biscochitos are the traditional New Mexico cookie that are predominantly served at special occasions like weddings, baptisms, and (mostly) as *the* New Mexico Christmas cookie. They're so celebrated here that they were named the official cookie of New Mexico back in 1989. It is well-known throughout the state that Golden Crown is THE preeminent place to get these cookies, and so much so that even Yelp named them the best holiday desserts in the entire state of NM (https://blog.yelp.com/community/crumbs-across-america-a-state-by-state-guide-to-the-best-holiday-desserts/). Their Biscochitos come in four flavors: traditional (anise & cinnamon), blue corn, cappuccino, and chocolate. They're so delicate and crumbly, kinda like a mix of a sandy and a butter cookie had a baby. I preferred the original flavor, as the hints of cinnamon and anise are totally my jam. If you're ever in Abq make sure you check out Golden Crown for any and all their baked goods. We can wait to come back and try their signature Green Chile bread next time.

I stopped by to pick up some local treats to gift when I flew back home to visit. I wish I got some stuff for myself because everything smelled amazing. It was torture driving to the airport with the cinnamon sugar smell of the empanadas wafting through my car. I did give in and eat one of the empanadas. It was very good. The folks are crazy friendly too.

This bakery was small and quaint. They have been around for a long time. We bought the green chili bread loaf and the New Mexico State cookies. They did not disappoint.

Ummmm. Location is a a one way butttt super cute. Theirs a kiosk outside you can order on. We went inside & used that kiosk. We order the blue corn biscochas (sorry for my spelling). The cashier was rude and we waited for something thats made & packaged. They were like dry crab shells. Idk maybe I'm uncultured but its not for me.

Original bizchocito- my fave (lard free, vegan)

I love love love their original bizchochito cookies (lard free and vegan) with the anise seeds and spices. The original is s my favorite but they also had a coffee flavored one (my second fave) and a blue corn one that was less for me.

Owner baking fresh green chile bread on a Sunday afternoon! Kudos...

Had no idea this place was so famous. Driving down the street and it looked interesting so we pulled in. Turns out Guy Fieri featured this bakery on DDD. The owner of 50 years was in here baking on a Sunday at 3:00pm! This is why he is so successful! Old skool and killing it. Green chili bread has a great flavor not hot but the heat just kisses your lips. On the dry side but great. All of the Mexican cookies were good but Mexican baked goods are on the dry side for me. White guy. The owner and personality of this place is terrific. Staff was nice too.

I truly love this place. Came to town for a conference and picked up some treats to take home to L.A. for my mom and myself. Bought the famous green chile bread, which my mom loved, the blue corn biscochitos, and the chocolate ones, then 4 different empanadas. Everything was delicious!! The biscochitos are melt-in-your-mouth crumbly. The folks here are so kind and patient. They handed out a free mini sample of soft serve ice-cream which was soooo good. I received a sample of a traditional biscochito. The barista had accidentally steamed too much milk on an order and offered me a free coffee drink while I waited for my pizza. It was my lucky day! My mocha was delicious. The bakery is very cute and inviting. I'm so glad I made the time to grab some goodies here en route to the airport. Good mix of locals and new visitors. I highly recommend!! Next time I'm in Albuquerque, I'm definitely coming back.

This place is a gem nestled in the neighborhoods of downtown. When I first arrived I thought they may have closed early. Good thing they weren't. The lights in the dinning area were dimmed and makes a relaxing vibe to enjoy your dinner. I ordered a 12" green chili crust pepperoni pizza and 3 biscochitos, chocolate, cappuccino, and original. The pizza 10 out of 10. The green chili crust gives that hidden spice with the pepperoni and cheese slice. Highly recommend getting the green chili crust with whichever pizza tickles your fancy. The biscochitos are a sweet treat afterwards. I would recommend those as well. After talking with the staff, they told me about the history of Golden Crown Panaderia. Then showed me the original oven which they still use today to bake their pastries. They also have on display in the lobby of the presses they use to make their empanadas. I would recommend to visitors and locals to come by and check this place out.

I stopped in to grab a coffee and a pastry before I start my day and the staff is very friendly. You definitely have that small hometown bakery vibe when you walk inside and have a wonderful patio outdoors however it was too cold for me to sit out there today, I ordered a blueberry empanada, which Was a delightful surprise. The flavor was amazing and it had a biscuit Chito crust on it. I ordered the jasmine in the clouds and it's the perfect amount of sweetness to get the day going.

What an amazing Albuquerque treasure! First time customer and we loved it. Fresh bisscochittos, bread loaves, empanadas, coffee. We sampled the empanadas, cookies and coffee. All fantastic and freshly made. Very friendly service and Mr Morales is a treat to meet. Enjoy real Albuquerque one morning!

Baristas are so nice and they put a lot of effort into crafting your drink. Admittedly, I didn't love my Americano but that had more to do with the type of bean (think a brighter flavor, while I prefer a dark roasted nutty flavor). This wouldn't at all stop me from returning and trying something else, like one of their cute specialty lattes if I'm feeling something on the sweeter side. Their prices are extremely reasonable, too.

This place definitely falls into the first category. This morning I went with the single origin Guatemala drip, and it was exactly what a solid cup of coffee should be. Smooth, rich, and balanced with a nice chocolate note that hangs around just long enough to make you take another sip. No bitterness. No burnt taste. Just a clean, well-roasted cup that says someone here actually cares about the beans. The shop itself has a personality, which I always appreciate. It's decorated with fishing lures, fish artwork, and sculptures scattered around the place. Naturally this leads to the obvious conclusion: the owner is either an avid fisherman... or coffee roasting is just the side hustle between trout expeditions. Either way, the theme works. The space feels relaxed, creative, and comfortable. The kind of place where you can sit with a cup and not feel rushed out the door. And speaking of doors, while I was there there was a steady flow of customers coming in and out. That's usually the universal coffee signal for yep, this place is doing something right.
