Such a cute hidden gem in Simi Valley! The food was good but I definitely think it's overpriced for what it is. It was $15 dollars for a simple breakfast - 1 slice of sourdough, 2 pcs of bacon, an egg, and avocado. I mean that's just wild. Im obsessed with this place it's so amazing the breakfast and lunch food items are so good the coffees and drinks are delicious. I'm still trying to find a pastry I love, the one i fell in love with isn't made consistently the same there's always something different about the texture of it but this is understandable they make fresh every day. I was visiting a friend in Simi Valley and stopped by The Baker's Daughter--such a great find! The ambience is beautiful, warm, and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax over good food and coffee. They're known for their bakery and sourdough bread, and I can see why--it was honestly one of the best I've had. We ordered a Lavender Latte and a Regular Latte, both perfectly made and so smooth. For food, we had the Pão de Queijo, which was light, cheesy, and delicious, and the Secret Egg Sandwich with a parmesan crisp, which took it to the next level. During a little bit of time yesterday afternoon to wander around to several local businesses, Dear Hubby and I decided to snag a coffee at Makenna's, and visit The Baker's Daughters in the same parking lot. I'd previously sampled a couple of sweet items from them, but it was my first time in their shop. Late afternoon on a Thursday they were pretty busy. Guests were there enjoying food and coffee beverages. They have minimal seating both inside and outside. Most of the interior space is devoted to the baking processes. Their goods for sale are inside glass partitions. At 4:00 they still had some pastries, like a cinnamon buns, chocolate chip cookies, croissants, plus a luscious-looking chocolate cake. They also still had many rounds of their signature 2-lb sourdough bread. A two-pound loaf would not only get stale by the time that DH and I could eat it at home (just the two of us), but it's also over $11. They had a half loaf, so we decided to give it a try. Big thumbs up for that sourdough! It has the tangy taste that we love, both being from San Francisco as kids. It definitely presents as an artisan loaf. The crust has a substantial texture. I've been enjoying the bread lightly toasted with vegan butter for the past two day. I'd definitely purchase it again. We wanted to give their sweets a try, also. DH went for a cinnamon bun, which he deemed, "Tasty, but heavy." I'd say that same for the chocolate chip cookie. It has a very dense weight to it. Am not sure what ingredients they use to make it so. The chocolate chips have a wonderful flavor. The cookie dough could be decidedly lighter in texture to my preference. I have wanted to try The Baker's Daughter for a while now, but they are closed on my days off from work. Today, the stars aligned, and I was able to meet some friends for breakfast. All I can say is wow! I can't wait to go back. Everything looks so delicious and inviting. I ordered the Green Eggs & Prosciutto Tartine and a lavendar latte. The latte was perfect. The lavendar flavor was very subtle but enough to give the latte a nice flavor. My tartine was delicious. The flavors of the pesto, ricotta, prosciutto, and egg blended beautifully together. The sourdough bread was the perfect base. My friend ordered the Croque Madame and was very pleased with her order. She commented that the flavors melded well together. I also ordered some Pao de Queijo, which is a small cheese roll. It reminded me of something I had in Argentia called chipá, which is very similar. These were cheesy and delicious. I would go back just for these alone - they brought back memories of my time in Argentina. The service was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly and made sure we were taken care of. You order and pay at the counter, and they will bring the food to you. There are some community style tables you can sit at inside and a few tables outside. They were baking and selling bread consistently the couple of hours that I was there. Each day, they have different breads available. Their Instagram account is a great place to get all of the info you need about what is available. There were also different pasties and cakes to choose from. They were baking fresh croissants when we left. Like I said, I can't wait to go back. This is such a lovely little bakery in Simi Valley that I hope sticks around for a long time. read more

My husband and I tried the Baker's daughter today for the first time and unfortunately, this will be our only trip. I find it completely unreasonable to pay $15 for 2 slices of very boring French toast and $16 for a cheeseburger à la carte. Ambience was boring, table wasn't clean, and above all. The kitchen is open-concept, which adds to the "local bakery" feel of the place. Menu is on the smaller side, which is a good thing. Cafes with smaller menus typically translate to higher quality. Service was decent, not much to note. The Baker's Daughter shines with their brunch food! My favorite is the Avocado Toast, which was both tasty and refreshing. I also tried the Grilled Cheese recently, which was pretty good, but I prefer the Avocado Toast. The drinks are very good too, particularly the flavored lattes! Waited 30min for two sandwiches, a bit too long, this is not a high end restaurant or steak sandwich for order to make for that long. Again, if you charging this much, then expectations are higher. There's so much hype around this place and it's cute inside, so I thought why not? Stopped by as I was in the area anyways. Ordered a chicken sandwich and a viet coffee, and that was a mistake. The sandwich is mid. It's not any better than Mendocino's and it's pricey. Thought it would be good with all the reviews. Disappointing. But at least it's not disgusting as this drink they're passing off as Vietnamese coffee. I shared the picture of my drink with my viet friends and they already knew from the color that this is not right. This is just straight up insulting. I asked if I can switch to a different coffee drink and they said no, so I asked for a refund instead. I am a lover of baked bread. I stopped by this bakery to purchase a couple of loaves today for the first time. One of my loaves was buttermilk, and I had requested to have it sliced to use as sandwich bread. I was told by the sales person that they are unable to slice bread with their slicer machine (beautifully on display just to the side of the cash register) because it is too loud during the Cafe open hours. At that moment, there were two customers enjoying their lunch. Now, mind you, I buy a LOT of bread. I am very familiar with the very machine that they use to slice. I'm also familiar that the time needed to slice through a lovely soft and delicious loaf of buttermilk bread is about three seconds. I am very disappointed that they were unable to do something like this, I found it to be distractingly odd. read more

A friend recommended this place when we were discussing the fact that in other countries, you can sit at a cafe as long as you want, and no one cares, but most places here are businesses first and you feel like they want to get rid of you. I felt that way recently in a local spot I used to love, but maybe this place will be my new favorite. They have a very welcoming ambiance and the setup encourages friendliness and neighborly communication. The staff is genuinely friendly. They have amazing gluten free banana bread and an assortment of breads and pastries. I ordered the banana bread and a mocha and both were excellent. It's super cute and charming and I've been dying to try. My daughter and I came in for coffee and left with bread and pastries and açaí. Coffees were, meh. We were so excited for almond syrup and it had no taste. Just tasted like simple syrup. Açaí was delicious with the peanut butter, but would skip granola next time, it was really hard. Pan o chocolate, was the best thing we had!!! Super crust and absolutely delicious! Also got a monkey bread that tasted just like a sweet/buttery muffin, no cinnamon. Bought a sourdough for home and a milk bread. Sourdough was delicious! Milk bread, is tbd, since they weren't able to slice it and were going through a kitchen renovation at the house. I need a knife and a cutting board Stat! Needless to say it was $60 for a majority of things being mediocre. But that's ok! Glad to support small businesses! I was staying at the hotel across the parking lot while visiting town for a family members funeral. I stopped in on my way to the airport for a coffee and croissant. The pistachio croissant was very fresh, flaky and tasty. I loved the Vietnamese Iced coffee, it was perfection. The only thing was the wait was a bit long. If i weren't in a hurry to get my rental car back and get o the airport in Burbank I would have sat and enjoyed my items there. A friend recommended this bakery cafe so my wife and I gave it a shot. I'm sure glad we did! What a hidden little gem. The cafe is located in a small retail area space. Walk up and order. They bring your order out to you. They have a few tables on the inside and several on the "patio". Friendly service. Surprising wide variety of menu items. Great tasting coffee. Delicious pastries. I got the Polpettone sandwich "meatball sandwich." I was a bit skeptical at first because I never had a meatball in my sandwich. Im so happy I ordered this, because each bite was delicious. My friend got the croque monsieur, which took quite a while to come out. No worries about that, just would have liked to known ahead a time there was going to be a wait, especially since my sandwich came out fast. Either way, the croque monsieur was good and warm.
