I always knew this place existed and passed it many times on TO Boulevard and I'm so glad I finally made the effort. I found the atmosphere to be so inviting, warm and modern with plenty of seating and a really nice outside patio. I would also mention that's it's so nice not to lumped in the middle of a strip mall like, ' Longevity in TO & Ragamuffin in Newbury Park' . I love the design of the interior! I have been to a ton of coffee locations in the area, ( Westlake, TO, Newbury Park, Oxnard, Ventura , Santa Barbara, Malibu) and this Cafe Ficelle location is up there with the best of them. Yes the parking is not perfect- but....the service I found on my, 'so far 5 visits' has been excellent and my ' cappuccinos' have been perfectly made and tasted superb. I also had a Tri Tip sandwich which I also found to be really tasty. Pastries and coffee were excellent. I ordered an iced lavender latte and bought their day old croissants both were delicious. I'd go back to try more of their food menu and take home their bread. Cafe Ficelle, is a small and cozy French eatery in Thousand Oaks. There is both inside and outside seating (with a rectangular fire pit). While there is easy to grab bakery fare (croissants, pastries and the like), there is also a limited menu, with interesting selections. I am always looking for something different. And although the Quiche Lorraine can be found in many places, it is always different, not only in its contents, but also how it is made and presented. So that is what I chose. This dish, with bacon and gruyere, came with a wonderful flaky crust. The generous sliced portion was at the perfect temperature, creamy on the inside, moist, silky and flavorful. One could taste the egg, the cheese and how it married with the bacon. Well prepared and memorable. I chose fruit (berries) as the side, instead of a small salad. I sat outside, by the fire pit, to enjoy my breakfast, the fresh air, the soft Hollywood music and the fire pit. Stumbled across this cute little breakfast spot in T.O--such a cozy gem! Parking wasn't the easiest, but I lucked out and found a spot nearby. Inside, there was plenty of seating both indoors and out. It wasn't busy when I arrived, but I can imagine it getting crowded during peak hours. I ordered the Liège Waffle Breakfast, and wow--what a treat! The waffle came with your choice of toppings, a perfectly basted egg (basically fried over easy), and a crispy side of bacon. I picked the blueberry ricotta topping, and it was divine--creamy, just sweet enough, and paired beautifully with the warm waffle. The portion size hit the sweet spot: I finished everything and left happily satisfied, not stuffed. My friend and I split a seasonal mimosa flight with four flavors: lavender lemon, pomegranate, grapefruit, and peach (though they were out of one, so we swapped it for a cherry one instead--which ended up being my friend's favorite). I personally loved the grapefruit and lavender lemon--light, bubbly, and super refreshing. All in all, a lovely little spot for a laid-back brunch with a few delicious surprises. Today I had lunch at Cafe Ficelle with my parents. We shared two French dip sandwiches, a chocolate croissant and an almond croissant. The sandwiches were outstanding. Crusty, toasted baguette, tender tri-tip, and perfectly melted Gruyere. The dipping sauce was rich and flavorful, a perfect complement. Each sandwich also came with a fresh side salad of arugula and goat cheese. The croissants were very good. We arrived close to closing, so the pastries may not have been at peak freshness. I would recommend enjoying them earlier in the day, ideally with coffee or tea. Since we were sharing, our server sliced each croissant in three pieces. Thank you! The cafe itself is charming, with warm dark wood, cozy seating, and a fireplace that adds to the ambiance. Indoor temperature was a bit cool during our visit, but still a pleasant environment, and there is outdoor seating as well. The staff was friendly and service was quick. One small note: it would help if the staff had a better grasp of the menu and felt more confident describing it. The food speaks for itself and is worth highlighting. Parking was close and easy, and I especially enjoyed the light jazz playing in the background, including standards sung beautifully by Ella Fitzgerald. P.S. I always forget to snap photos. I am a fan of this little bistro bakery with the lovely pastries from Camarillo but, the Thousand Oaks outpost needs a lot of work. Every visit has been below expectations. There is NO parking yet they allow their team of 3-4 to park onsite every day, leaving no spaces for guests. We literally circled 3 times before selecting a "questionable spot" hoping to avoid a ticket. We arrived on a Tuesday at 10am for brunch and was told come back in a half hour because the chef is on lunch. Also, it's strange that they give you a number for your food to be delivered but you have to come and wait at the counter for your coffee. This is the third one of these I've been to and it was pretty good, even though the one in Ventura still tastes the best for whatever reason. The woman ringing us up was funny and sweet and the inside is very pretty and it looks like there's a section where people like to do a little work on laptops which is nice. My friend and I went there to enjoy a nice latte and something to eat. Pacifically asked for a latte in a coffee cup and not paper cup. I ordered French toast, which was definitely not worth the price. They called my name for me to get my coffee which was in a paper cup. I told him that I specifically asked for it to be in a coffee clip. He proceeded to pour it in the coffee cup. I go for the experience and pay for it. It's funny how they have you sign and want to receive a tip. I thought I was going to get good service at 18% instead I picked up my coffee and someone dropped off the very bad French toast. Such a cute hidden gem in TO! We stopped by after dinner across the way at Deninos (Italian) and so glad we did. Cafe Ficelle is warm, cozy and very aesthetically pleasing. This cafe ficelle location is gorgeous! It looks like an upscale cafe found in Europe. The egg English muffin sandwich was made on a home made English muffin, over easy egg (the cashier asks how you would like your egg so you can get any type of egg) and ham. The food tasted fresh and high quality. The only reason I am giving this spot a 4 star is because it was loud inside. We were here for a birthday occasion so it was a little disappointing. We would have sat outside but there was no seating available at the time we went. We had to sit in the very back corner because of how loud it was. When you're favorite coffee shop goes from amazing, to mediocre, to total disappointment, it's a tough realization. This place was fantastic. The baristas knew what they were doing, food came out fresh, and staff were welcoming. Now, every order looks like their team is putting out a fire. Huge turnover is showing through the cracks. All I'm looking for is a solid coffee shop in TO, and this place was my #1 go to. Coffee is burnt now, order is wrong 9/10, and the only thing that is mildly consistent is the food. I came in right before closing and I really wanted to try the NY roll. I was worried about how fresh it would be since it was at the end of the day but I decided to try it anyway. I waited in the car and my hubby ran in to get me one to go. When he came back, he went on for 5 minutes, filling me in on what Arthur informed him on. Arthur provided excellent customer service and he stopped what he was doing to explain that these pastries are baked at the Ventura location and brought in each morning. The filling inside changes each season (I saw pictures last month with strawberry and this month I think it was peach) we'll have to find out what's in store for June. He also mentioned that they have a section for day old bread that was also available if we were interested. I really appreciated how informative he was and very welcoming. I bought the roll for the morning but I ate it when I got home. The NY roll was $6.50 and it was sweet but not too sugary, flaky and buttery like a crossiant. The filling inside was peach, similar to a peach cobbler, and it was delicious. I can't wait to see what flavor they roll out next. They also had an English muffin that caught our attention so we'll have to come back and try it too. I love that they stay open late and open early. What a fun lunch we had! The service was amazing. Arthur is our new favorite guy. He had us smiling so much. Brianna was also super helpful. I had the Smoked Salmon Toast and it was absolutely delightful. I could have just ordered a half order because the bread was a huge slice. And the bread is so hearty and perfectly delicious. I took a loaf home. The Salmon Toast came with a fresh in season berry cup that was a real step up from the usual fruit cup. My friend had the French dip. This is my second visit sort of. We came two weeks ago for their opening around 1:20 pm we were greeted by the question by a young woman behind the counter "Are you planning on ordering and staying to eat?" Not welcome, not hello. I said you mean that we have to leave the premises at 2:00 p.m. Sharp. She said yes. We said bye. Well two of my friends decide they wanted to try it today at 10:00 a.m. I'm not a fan of going back to a place that treats me rudely and frankly has terrible parking. Good luck if you get a spot. I decided to go back and give it a fair shot. Yes parking is still horrendous. That said, the greeting was much more friendly. After all, 2 weeks ago was early in their opening. So maybe now they're trained up. My coffee latte was excellent and reasonably priced. Loved the interior decor and their modern fake fireplace. There's nice outside seating near the fountain and my two friends ordered their breakfast toast. I took pictures of their orders and they seemed to enjoy them. We did have I shall say an enounter with one of the family owners. I just need to say they need to take a course in greeting customers and being friendly. They have monthly flavors for their New York rolls which is means there is always something new to try, but they have the classics like croissants. I tried the oatmilk latte and opted for the ham and gruyere croissant. The latte was delicious but I still prefer the pour over. Most of the time the staff is super friendly and helpful. We ordered the Croque Madame and a crepe with strawberries and Nutella. Both were just okay. However, the fruit was fresh and delicious! I'm not huge on the order at the counter type restaurants, and the service was fine, but not too friendly. No one acknowledged us coming in or leaving. An "interesting" experience. Giving it 3.8 stars and rounding up to 4. Came across a photo of their menu and was initially expecting a cute little French cafe. Further research pointed to this being primarily a bakery with delicious pastries: the menu was an add-on. This is located in a relatively new mixed retail / residential complex at the corner of Erbes and Thousand Oaks Blvd. Parking is tough. There's a garage for tenants of the attached condos/apartments and limited parking spaces for the retail establishments. That said, there were only a few others inside when we arrived. On entering it looked like an upscale pastry/coffee shop. There were about 10 tables - none of them set for dinner. I thought I misunderstood something. Approaching the counter I saw the dinner menu printed on a thick stock. There were only two. Oddly there were no prices except on a couple desserts. However there were regular menus that listed their pastries and coffees, and those were in a nice vinyl cover. The lady behind the counter explained that people kept taking the dinner menus. I pointed out it was probably because they appeared to be "to-go," as they had no cover. I didn't want to ask the price of every item, but I knew what was reasonable and watched as each one was rung up. We started with two orders of escargot, one of bone marrow, and then had a couple French Dips. The presentation was actually nice! They do give you bread crisps for the escargot. Would be better to serve it untoasted since it makes it easier to sop up the garlic butter. I'll ask for that next time. We were also brought flatware and a napkin in little paper bags. The escargot were some of the largest I've seen. Big plus. Very delicious. Some difficulty getting them out of their shells due to their size. The bone marrow consisted of two large halves with an ample amount of marrow. I confirmed that this was one order. It was! More substantial than anywhere else. And a good trick is to place some marrow on a toast point and then top it with escargot! Perfect combo. The French Dip, listed as an entree, was unfortunately disappointing because of the meat. Maybe it was a lesser cut. Maybe it was too thick. It wasn't tender and flavorful like it should be. It didn't tear easily. Would not get that again. The people were great! There's a wine bar around the back corner, and they also have a full bar. It was spacious and clean. Just not a cozy setting and still an odd place for a French meal. read more

My only problem is the unmarked parking. It's so hard to know where to park, because even if there is a sign, I couldn't see it at night time. Could they at least put a light on it?
