This Thai and Vietnamese restaurant is so good! The Bangkok is the sort of Asian restaurant that I would have frequented in NYC or in Asia, so it was such a delight to find it in Melrose, MA. Honestly, we were so surprised by the quality and range of dishes. The place itself is small - it can seat around 12 people but the decor is light and contemporary. It's a place that you can invite friends to for lunch or dinner. It's not just a takeout Asian joint, but the prices are quite inexpensive particularly for the quality of the food. We've been here quite a few times. They had these crabcakes with corn that were amazing - likely a seasonal dish though. Their basil chicken and pad thai are excellent. The Tom Yam soup is also spicy, tasty and has generous portions of seafood. They have a Southeast Asian version of Agadashi Tofu - with an unusual but effective twist. In fact, everything that we had here was delicious. This is one of our absolute favorite restaurants in the Boston area. read more

I just moved to Malden and didn't know good Thai places around so we just went to the first one we came across in Melrose. It's only been a week and we have been there twice. This small clean place is a gem! We ordered Tom yum soup which was delicious. Green curry and lo mein were amazing and the best entree was Tom yum shrimp fried rice. The Tom Kha soup with Tofu was so crisp, clean and silky tasting that I ordered it again the following week, and ordered for pick up yet again the week after that. 3 times in 3 weeks. Need more be said? The service is impeccable, staff friendly, but the freshness and taste of the food takes center stage. Called ahead to ask if we can put a reservation in because we were afraid they were busy. We didn't know that this was a smaller restaurant and mainly to-go orders. The lady said there is currently a table and we should be able to get seated. Once we got there, there were a ton of people standing waiting for their take out orders. We waited for 10+ minutes and saw another couple ahead of us walked out, probably because they weren't even greeted. We asked to get seated bc there were 2-3 tables open and we were not part of the to-go orders. She said to wait. So we waited for the hostess to pick up phone orders and do take out for like 7-10 people, then finally cleaned the table for us to get seated. At this time it was probably another 5+ minutes. Once seated, we waited and waited but the hostess, who is also the only front-end person so would be our waitress too, was busy doing take out orders. We waited for another 10+ minutes and realized that she is prioritizing take-out over customers in the restaurant. We didnt have water or anythign while waiting. So, we didnt think she was going to serve us and my young daughter was hungry, so we were fed up. After a total of about 30 minutes wasted waiting around inside their restaurant, we left. I've been looking for Tom Kha soup (or something similar) and was excited that the Bangkok had it on the menu as it feels like most places just have Tom Yum. I ordered using Uber Eats as I had a gift card (not usually a fan of ordering from anywhere but the business directly). I also selected a sweet and sour chicken stir fry (sadly without rice as I'm trying to cut out carb sides like rice). It came earlier than expected which was nice. The soup was fantastic - the coconut broth was so flavorful and filling. The soup had tons of mushrooms and chicken - just lovely. I will one hundred percent order this soup again! The chicken sweet and sour stir fry was just okay - I really think those meals work better with the rice mixed in. It was a bit too sweet for me (and I didn't taste anything sour that would contrast with the sweetness); my friend loved it and wolfed it down but it's not something I'd order again. Prices were okay, especially for the soup which was a big portion for under $7. Menu is huge and I saw a lot of items I'd love to try (but alas have to avoid now) so if you're looking for a wide variety of items then this restaurant won't disappoint! read more

So glad I found some really great Thai food near me in Wakefield! I'm obsessed with any soup that's spicy and full of lemongrass, the Bun Bo Hue hits the nail on the head every time. Bangkok Thai never disappoints! I feel so lucky to have this gem in my neighborhood. I've only gotten takeout thus far, but I've always had a great experience and received friendly service both on the phone while ordering and when picking up. The food is fantastic! It's also inexpensive and high quality - never greasy or overly salty. The restaurant itself is quite adorable with a modern aesthetic - natural wood complemented with bright white tile, open shelving and a chalkboard wall. They've made the most of a small space. More about the food though! The Thai noodle dishes are excellent (pad see ew, drunken noodle) and I really enjoyed the basil fried rice and sauteed dishes (basil, spicy eggplant). The bun (vermicelli) was also delicious. I haven't had a chance to sample the pho yet, but I expect to soon considering the single digits temperatures in Boston right now. There are tons of other dishes to try too - expect to find pretty much all of your standard Thai and Vietnamese dishes and then some. I don't think you can go wrong with anything you might order! I don't understand the hype here. The pad thai had weirdly tasting chicken meat. I didn't even eat it all because it tasted so weird. The summer roll was bland. The Vietnamese coffee was okay, but nothing special. I've had better. It has more of a takeout feel to it, but there is some seating. The chair was really uncomfortable though. The dining area was too warm, so I was getting sweaty. To get to the bathroom you have to exit the building and run around the corner. No plans to return. read more

A lil bit disappointed with it broth wasn't hot noodles falling apart and portion was small too much msg I didn't even finish it because I drank the whole bottle of water they gave me because of it. AMAZING! An adorable little spot in Melrose. It was extremely clean, relaxing, and lovely right upon waking in on a rainy Sunday evening. We decided to eat there at a small table by the door. To start, we got green bubble tea and Thai iced tea, crispy roll, crab Rangoon (best I've ever had with delicious dipping sauce) and vegetable gyoza. What a fantastic addition to Melrose & surrounding towns. I found this restaurant via friend's check-in on Facebook. I looked it up on Yelp and saw 4.5 stars & knew I had to check it out. The Bangkok's interior is very small consisting of only 4 tables for 2, so clearly it's a takeout & delivery restaurant. The menu is fairly expansive, hence I browsed through some food photos to find the most visually scrumptious-looking dish. I've gotten takeout twice and have tried the Pad Thai with Chicken, Indo Fried Rice, Bangkok Wings, and Bun Bo Hue. It was great because I would never order several carb entrees if I dined in. I also think it's reasonable to judge a restaurant based on these "easy" dishes. Pad Thai with Chicken ($10): very tasty and not as sour, mushy, and heavy as the pad thai that I'm normally used to. In this day and age, most restaurants over-season their food and cause sodium overloads, not the Bangkok, they seem to care about sodium levels! Info Fried Rice ($13): my favorite dish here so far & one of the better fried rice that I've had in a while! It comes loaded with 6-7 large pieces of shrimp along with a fried egg and tasty grilled satay chicken, which somewhat justifies the costliness of this dish. The pik pow sauce is the highlight & makes this dish so delicious and unique. Bangkok Wings ($6): while it was perfectly fried and juicy in the inside and tasted fine, the portions were small as there were only 5 average-sized pieces. I'd pass. Bun Bo Hue ($11): The steak and tendon was so fresh and melt-in-your-mouth tender! The broth was not spicy at all, but it was tasty. It was a tad salty, but not overly so. The noodles were your standard rice noodles, which I actually prefer to the standard thicker noodle that Vietnamese restaurants usually served for this dish. The smiley lady at the front was pleasant & friendly and provided great customer service. It's unfortunate some restaurants don't realize these seemingly small gestures go a long way. There was a small mishap where utensils and napkins were not provided the first time, however it was provided when I came here on my second visit.
