Had to wait 20 minutes to relieve myself because apparently they can only afford one toilet, no seat on it either.

I was looking for a nice bar for a cocktail and appetizer by myself, and I found the Anvil and Ax (inside the Hotel Morgan) menu via google and decided to stop. Street parking is available all around. The doorman was so nice! There were several couples at the bar, so I sat at one of the tables near the bar. It took a while for the bartender to come over to me and give me a menu. I ordered the french martini and asked if there was a food menu available. She said they didn't serve food until later in the day, even though the online menu said otherwise. My martini was great. Service was subpar. She set my martini on the edge of the bar and I had to go up and get it- no big deal, I just thought it was odd since they weren't busy. The bartender never came back over to me; I went up to the bar to close out and pay my bill like 15 minutes after I finished my drink. There are certainly some kinks to work out, especially with service, but this place has potential to be very nice!

And the meatballs have a great tomato taste sauce. I had Surf N' Turf Salad Bay scallops, shrimp, steak tips, grilled asparagus, tomato, locally sourced mushrooms, roasted red peppers, & white cheddar served on a bed of fresh spring mix. Every protein was cooked perfectly! The mescaline mix of leaf lettuce was a great complement. The server was very nice and anxious to please. I'm definitely going back there again! We ate early and there weren't too many others there so I hope it got busier later. Definitely rivals Stefano's. And less expensive!

If they…read moredid, I would give Iron Horse Tavern ... drumroll ... three-and-three-quarter stars (Ed McMahon voice)! But Yelp doesn't, and since 3.75 is closer to 4 than it is to 3 (right?), 4 stars it is. Whew, that's all the math I care to do today. My pulled pork nachos were not my favorite. It could have been a user error, though -- I didn't see on the menu that the cheese they were using was beer cheese. I just saw "pulled pork" and my mind went blank, and I had to order the nachos. In my opinion, a little beer cheese goes a long way, and these nachos had lots and lots of beer cheese. The only other ingredients on the nachos were jalapeno and a sprinkling of chives, so they were a little one-note. I think a different cheese and adding something else (avocado, maybe? Or beans? Green onions?) would have helped. We also got the mac and cheese, both the adult size and the child size. I was told that the mac and cheese was good, and both portions were huge. In fact, the child's-size mac and cheese was almost as large as the adult size. The kids menu has all of the kid heavy hitters, like chicken tenders, a smash burger, grilled cheese and a chicken sandwich. Kids meals come with chips or apple slices. We also got the Beets & Greens salad, which is a mixed-green salad with roasted red and yellow beets, green apple, candied walnuts, goat cheese and a poppy seed vinaigrette. This was honestly the best thing we ordered, and I think if I were to visit again, I'd get a salad. Iron Horse has eight salads on their menu, which is quite a lot, for a pub-type place. Actually, I'd get a salad and one of their handmade pierogis. Whenever a restaurant hand-makes something, you should always get that! I usually do, but got caught up in thinking about pulled pork. Oh well. The service here was great. The restaurant itself is nice, with a huge bar area that takes up about half of the restaurant. This looks like a nice place to watch sports and get a beer or something.

I did a quick search looking for the best wings in town, and this restaurant was within a decent distance from my location, so I decided to drop by. I ordered for pickup, so I couldn't give much insight on the overall vibe of the restaurant. It's very much a sports bar and there was some light music playing. As I walked in, I was quickly greeted by the bar back and the young lady assisted with my takeout order. Others at the bar appear to have been enjoying their time and drink. Now to the wings, I ordered buffalo wings with a side of Thai sauce. The wings were heavily breaded and could've used more seasoning. The Thai sauce might've been better tossed with the wings. I also ordered a side of fries. The fries were actually really good. Overall, this wasn't a bad experience, but it didn't leave a lasting impression or exceed my expectations.

Our waitress, Brooke, was new but she was extremely knowledgeable and took good care of us. She recommended the Corona wings. She said they were a dry rub and described them as not being spicy but having a lot of flavor. They were fantastic! I got 10 BIG wings, and they came out extra crispy without me having to ask. It is worth it to upgrade to the Brew Fries for an extra $0.50! There is a ton of covered outdoor seating with a large TV on the wall. The inside has a great bar and gives the vibe of an old time bar with the lighting, but everything has been updated and it is very clean. Brooke explained to us that their wing night is on Thursdays, where they offer $0.89 wings. Monday is steak night, and Wednesday at 7:00pm is Trivia. After 10 wings (not on wing night), a Buffalo Chicken Wrap, and two sides of Brew Fries, our total came to $35. Much cheaper than other places around Morgantown! I was much more impressed with SS than I was with Kegler's. We will be back!

The crab dip was also delicious and real crab. Interestingly they served the crab dip with a pretzel. Also delicious. Inside, there's a fireplace that is pleasant to stand in front of (I was cold, so that's what I did), the bar looks like a tiki hut, and at the host stand, there's a tank with some turtles in it. It's a very relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. However, the food was mid. They've got burgers and pizza and sandwiches, which make up most of the menu, but they also have seafood and pasta dishes. I got the pulled pork sandwich, and it was super sweet. Way too sweet! And it was topped with shredded cheese that I could tell was pre-shredded and came from a bag. The fries that came with my sandwich were super seasoned. Way too seasoned! Everything about my meal was "way too." We also got the WV Wedge salad, which apparently is one of their specialties. It was aiight. Instead of bleu cheese like a typical wedge, this one came with both ranch and Italian dressing, plus pieces of steak. My kids enjoyed their grilled cheese sandwiches and cheeseburgers from the kids' menu. One thing that's interesting about the kids' menu here is that steak is an option! (Well, steak tips.) We visited Dockside in the offseason, but apparently this place gets extremely busy during the summer, when everyone wants to be on the lake.
