I am definitely not a fan of this facility. The brunette bartender was very rude, she asked my cohort to "be quiet" in the bar. The bouncer admitted to himself and the owner of the bar being racist so if we complained the owner would not acknowledge our complaints. The bouncer was cursing at my friend because she asked for the name of the brunette bartender after she came to our table and was snatching drinks that were unfinished away. It was a very awful experience and we were waiting forever to receive drinks that we ordered and the bar wasn't crowded at all. Walking up to the place we experienced what I call a "Dorchester Chat"... you know... the one where people stand on opposite sides of the street in their pajamas and yell at each other about something like 'did you see mikey? he said to say hi!" SO... I was a bit worried about what kind of place I would be walking in to. The place was 1/2 empty (as I would expect at 9pm on a Wed night) so we were able to take our pick of bar seats. The staff were super friendly- and went out of their way to be nice to us out-o-towners (picture two obv lesbians in a local Dorcester Irish pub). They poured me a glass of Guinness and my pal got a UFO. The beer selection is a little bit more than I would expect from the avg townie joint- that was refreshing. Wait... wait... what is THIS?! trivia?! they were doing trivia on Wed night. awesome. we played along and found the questions a little easy- maybe this is our new trivia place. ha! I ordered the burger- which was very very good- great flavor and cool presentation. The fries were also excellent. I mean, seriously... even the pickle was perfect. We aren't talking the Ten Tables burger or the Haven in JP... but still... it was exactly what I expected and then some. Chelsea Bar!! This bar is pretty cool and the food is awesome. Service is not too bad either. On game days it gets really packed and busy but you get taken care of nonetheless. Breakfast items are superb. Omelettes and home fries are always a hit if I join hubs for a football match on the weekends. Once I missed breakfast so I opted for a burger with a fried egg on top. Oh it was worth it. Burger was ginormous and tasty. Fries were yum too. Never a bad time here! read more

New to the area, we were looking for breakfast on a Sunday morning. An Irish breakfast sounded good, so we headed a few blocks from home to try the Banshee. We walked up and saw a man standing outside. Before we could ask, "are they open for food?" He asked if we were there "for the game." When we looked confused, he remarked, "oh, you're Americans?" Then he let us in to eat. Turns out there was a big football match, and the cover at 8:30 in the morning was $20. We felt badly for going in for free while the others had to pay, but we also felt it would be rude to refuse the doorman's hospitality. We ate a good meal--they have good curry sauce for the chips, something I haven't been able to find since my favorite Irish pub on the West Coast closed down. We didn't stay long, for fear of looking like we might be watching the game for free. Nice crowd, though, and really good pub fare. We'll be back! read more

I want to like this place. As a soccer fan it is one of the few hangouts in the city. Every time I go I hope they redeem themselves but everytime they let me down. Worst yet was last night. Went for the Revs game, Bruins were on at the same time. There were 2 bartenders/waitstaff working the entire place. Sitting at a table I didn't get a menu for 45 minutes. I actually had flag someone down which took multiple tries. After handing us menus I was told I had to order food at the bar. I didn't feel like fighting the crowds so I pass on food. I don't blame the staff I blame the poor management. Bruins are in the playoffs on a Saturday night and you only have 2 people working. Should have at least had 5. GREAT PLACE TO WATCH SOCCER I came here to watch Chelsea vs Manu, and the place was packed full of Chelsea fans (I am also a supporter of CFC). The people there were wonderful, as the were very knowledgable about soccer and just over all friendly (especially if you were wearing blue). Not to mention, the bartenders were fantastic, both of which were Irish girls, and needless to say she knew how to poor a Guinness properly. And on top of all of that, the food was surprisingly good. I had steak tip eggs Benedict which was phenomenal. I will definitely be back, game day or not, and if you like beer, good people, and soccer, this is the place for you. This place is very bad. I tried to order a drink and the bartenders made two for me and they charged me for it. They didn't even apologize like they owe me for the mistakes that were made. This frustrated me and I put the tip empty because they didn't really care about their customer. After 5 minutes the waitress which has nothing to do with her came and pressed me because I didn't tip and gave me the receipts. I understand I have to tip but when you are rude to me I will not do anything because I am the customer not you. Overall, the waitress and bartenders are so rude to their customers and make a fool of themselves with the way they act. Grow up. read more

This spot is a great, casual neighborhood hang-out. I come every Wednesday night for trivia, and they have hefty gift card prizes ($50). It can get pretty crowded, so if you're looking to get a table with a sizable group of friends for trivia, it's best to get there a bit early. They have a wide selection of beers on tap, and even carry White Claw. I haven't been there for brunch (yet) but it's on my list. read more

I have been to this establishment a total of 4 times. The last time I went there, was a Sunday early evening in May got a table with two friends of mine. We ordered food drinks etc. My friends decided they had to leave of which I was left behind. It was getting close to the time that I was getting ready to leave, an Irish gentleman approached my table to say hi I had no problem with that except when an associate of mine who was sitting at the bar and not with me at all that night rushed over toward my table and got in the Irish gentleman's face interrogating him. The bouncer approached the gentleman and asked him to leave. I explained that he has had an interest but we're just friends and by no means did he have any authority to do what he did. The Irish gentleman was nice enough to walk me out and help me get an Uber. Since then, I hadn't gone there until yesterday afternoon to have lunch. I was stopped at the door by the same bouncer in front of other people that he let walk in and said we've decided we're not letting your kind in here. What is that I asked? We don't like what has happened here while you were in here. I explained this whole thing to him again that I was a paying customer and I was at a table that another customer in the establishment violated and why is his actions a reflection of me? He proceeded to explain to me that he was barred from establishments in the past due to people he associated with as well. I made it a point to ask detailed questions not because I wanted to return to this establishment but because I don't think that's what he expected me to do not my kind anyway according to him. His final explanation to me was "why didn't you say anything to me if you felt he was out of line"? It was evident that this gentleman was causing problems with a paying customer why would I have to state the obvious? This has never happened to me before in any establishment, but according to some of the reviews, I'm not surprised at all. read more

Visiting from out of town and this was within walking distance to our rental. Sat in their "parklet" and enjoyed a salad and burger & fries on a week night. Quite a bit of traffic noise, but that is to be expected. Food was good, service was prompt and it was convenient. Seemed like a place where locals may come for a beer and to grab a bite to eat. The best soccer bar in Boston, hands down. Come here to catch a premiere league game any weekend morning and you will not be disappointed. They are also the home bar of The Midnight Riders (New England Revolution supporters) and the Boston chapter of the American Outlaws (US Soccer supporters). So a good spot for those games as well. A warm and inviting Dorchester Ave. Irish pub on weekdays, a sweaty dance club on weekends. The Banshee suffers from a bar's answer to Jekyll & Hyde syndrome... it has two distinct identities at different points during the week. Sunday through Thursday, the place is a well kept Irish-style pub featuring well poured Guinness, friendly and attentive waitstaff, and a low-key crowd. Drink prices are good and the food is a cut above average pub faire. If you're a soccer fan, this is known as a go-to place to watch (I never have myself, but friends of mine have gone for Premier League, I believe). The interior is dark but inviting, and the overall atmosphere is relaxing and 'homey"... an example, I stopped in for a random Guinness and sat near a group comprised of three generations of a single family (grandparents, parents, and college aged kids) all enjoying an appetizer and a beers. On weekend nights, the Banshee's fangs come out and droves of heavy drinking, tight t-shirt wearing sweaty people crowd the place from wall to wall. The music is turned up to 11, the tiny "dance floor" (inconveniently located in front of the bathroom door) is packed with booze fueled men flailing angrily about, and the attitude of the whole place changes from "warm and inviting" to hook-up scene. The bouncers stay very busy, escorting Jager-soaked patrons to the curb and breaking up random testorone clashes on the dance floor. The Banshee is a 4-star pub on weeknights and a 2-star attempt at a dance club on weekends. You'd be hard pressed to find a better place for a mellow beer or two on a Wednesday night, but you could easily do a lot better if you felt like dancing on a Saturday evening. read more

Multiple TV's keep your head on a swivel and unlike some sports bar that don't have a HDTV signal the Banshee has 1080p. The second floor can be booked for functions etc. The menu is a a mix of Irish/Irish like dishes and American pub grub. The salads are very good and you can get your favorite protein for a little extra. I like the chicken curry with rice and chips(fries), the Guinness banger and mashed. The burgers and sandwiches are solid. The flatbread pizzas are also a good option, I like the Margherita. People are pretty chill but beware they don't take your shenanigans lightly. The crowd is locals and large cohorts or Soccer groups and yes MLB, NBA, NFL as well as college sport fans. Fake Irish bar that hates non-locals. My wife and I were new to the area and were looking for a place to watch the Women's World Cup. This bar is listed as the Official American Outlaws (US soccer fan club) bar so we decided to go here for the watch party. We were both wearing USA jerseys and are members of an American Outlaws chapter (Roanoke) so we assumed we would be welcomed. Once we got there we saw that it was "seat yourself" so we sat at a small table in the corner. We asked the bar tender is we could sit at the table and he said yes. After 10 minutes of no service we were asked to move by a server because she was "hoping to get at least 12 people at that table". (The table was 2 ft x 2 ft). She told us there were table upstairs and we needed to move. We went upstairs and found that there was a private viewing party and there was no where to sit. We decided at this point to leave and on our way out we saw the same server sit two people she was very familiar with at the same table my partner and I were asked to move away from. Not to pile on but the bar was also dark, dirty, and really not a welcoming environment. Needless to say the service was incredibly terrible and we are very happy with leaving this dingy and unwelcoming bar. SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. read more

It's a shame to have to rate a pub in Dorchester so highly, but the Banshee is absolutely my favorite place to get Shepherd's Pie, and one of my favorite spots in the Boston area. It's a few blocks from the T, and the neighborhood can be somewhat scary to walk (especially at night), but if you mind your own business, you should be left alone. If you drive, though, I think parking in this area would be a problem. The Banshee has several TV's on which they play any current sporting event. They have plenty of bar seating, several tables and booths in the main room, and additional seating upstairs. Everything that I've tried on the menu is tasty, but I keep going back for the Shepherd's Pie. I can't find anyplace in the Boston area to beat it. Prices are reasonable, and the daily specials are all great and very cheap. Drinks are reasonably priced, the bar staff is knowledgeable... it's a good place inside, and has a very friendly neighborhood bar sort of feel. As an added bonus, chances are good of running into some very Irish guys in there at any given time which gives you an opportunity to listen to their cute accents whilst sipping your favorite cocktail... what can be better? read more

And the Banshee breakfast sandwich - egg, irish bacon, sausage, white and black pudding all served up on a bread and cheese with homefries, for only $6!!! unbelieveable, and if you are like me, and love to keep up with Rugby and Soccer from England/Ireland, they show it free! only once have I had to pay - and that was because it was the FA cup final! We've got a lot of places in Boston that call themselves a "pub." Specifically, an "Irish pub." Friends, if you want to know what that actually looks like, come to Banshee. The food is excellent. A nice combination of American and traditional Irish with some modern twists. In terms of the service and ownership, you won't find a nicer lot in town. If you're looking to enjoy a pint or two over a sports game, have a nice lunch with parents, or get pissed while listening to U2 covers, you can do it all here. I'm Irish so naturally I believe in the above statement, and, frankly I don't see how anyone could deny it. But I digress. It's the sort of feeling you get when you walk into this place - the bartenders and most of the patrons are Irish, like really Irish. They all had accents (sexy!). Anyone else that was in the place just really wanted to be Irish, as they pretended to like Guinness and watch soccer on the TVs. Enough about the staff and patrons, though. Both my friend and I ordered the fish and chips and IT WAS HEAVEN. The batter was light and flavorful and the homemade tarter sauce had this sweetness to it that made the whole thing very interesting. The only minor thing that bothered me was that it was SO dark in there. Probably to hide all our fair, "pretty" Irish faces from the sun. A fun experience and I will definitely be back. read more

I went here for dinner and it was an amazing experience! We were immediately greeted upon arrival and asked our drink order. The menu had plenty of options, Irish and more. We decided on the Fish Tacos and Southern Fried Chicken. Both were fried PERFECTLY. I think the tacos were definitely some of the best I've had. They do not come with lime, but I asked for it and was brought slices right away. The Southern Chicken is definitely a great comfort-food option insisting of crispy, fried chick breast (no bone), over mashed potatoes and peppercorn gravy. Simply and awesome. Casual and welcoming. Ok...so a lot of mixed reviews. I'll be brief here. The waitresses are the unhappiest people ever. I mean really unhappy. The food never came...never came. An Hour and a half later we were told it's very busy. Warn us! Honestly! Just say hey....your food will take a while. Like a long while. This is the only place that I qualify as a regular at so I am obviously biased from the start with my review. Why even write a review then, you may ask. With the World Cup just around the corner people need to know that the Banshee is the only place to watch soccer in the city. What about the Phoenix Landing? It's pretty tough to watch the Revs or the US national team when they're on at 9 pm on a Saturday night while drunk, sweaty, pill-popping dorks are rubbing against each other at the Boom-Boom Room. Sure, the Banshee has it's own humpfest going on during weekend nights but they also open the upstairs, with a dedicated bartender, and often free food for those there to watch a night time match. I've often spent the night drinking and enjoying the Revs or the Soccer Yanks and come back suffering an insufferable hangover to watch Liverpool at the crack of dawn the next morning. Their surprisingly great coffee does wonders at this moment. Follow that up with a Guinness and their $5 French Toast and I'm almost feeling human again. Their Karaoke on Thursday nights is sloppy hilarity and also deserves a shout out! read more

I live down the street and have been to the Banshee a number of times for drinks but never for food. Groupon was offering a $20 for $40 toward food so I got it and headed here the other night with a friend. We sat down immediately at the bar and the bartender came over to us immediately. She brought us our drinks (normally we would go for Guinness here, which you should, but we strayed away this night and had a couple of Kronenbourgs) and offered us menus. Appetizer: Wexford Potato Cakes ($8.49). The plate came with 2 large potato cakes and a ranch dressing dipping sauce. These were awesome and flavorful. I could have eaten 10 of them. Entrees: Marinated Steak Tips with Mashed ($15.49); Guinness Braised Short Rib ($14.49) I myself had the Marinated Steak Tips (Medium Rare) and they were excellent. Great portion size and the mashed potatoes to go with it were a nice pairing. My friend crushed the short rib meal without speaking, so he was noticeably enjoying the entree. All in all, we had an appetizer and 2 great entrees for under $40.00 The bartender was attentive the whole night and kept the drinks flowing. For dinner, on popular nights, I would recommend getting here early because it will get crowded. Same with rugby and football (soccer) matches. There are two faces to the Banshee- you can either come to have a nice meal at any time of the day, or you can come in and get rowdy. Other items of note: 1. There is a private upstairs area that can be rented (for free; there is a catering menu that goes along with it if you'd like) for private events. 2. There is trivia on Wednesdays. I've never been so I can't comment. 3. Thursdays are promo nights with giveaways and drinks from specific liquor/beer brands 4. The Banshee is cool for the fact that they are the longest running soccer bar in Boston. They have a full slate of games every weekend, and through the week, and host most of the larger active European club supporters groups. Its not easy for me to get there so I limit my trips there to USMNT away World Cup qualifiers. I went once last fall for the Antigua & Barbuda game, and again over the winter for for the Honduras game. The Antigua game viewing party was held upstairs. Its a little cramped up there, but for a viewing party, the tight quarters adds to the energy level. The beer selection is decent, but they have more beers available downstairs at the main bar than they have at the little satellite bar in the corner of the upstairs room. The second time I went it was a weekday afternoon and there was a much smaller crowd there. The viewing party was held downstairs, so there was a lot more room to move around. This time I had a steak sandwich, and I was surprised, the food is really good. The food is probably better than the food at The Football Factory, even including the expanded upstairs menu at Legends. You have to respect The Banshee because they were the soccer bar before there was any other option, but it lacks the engagement factor of a place like The Football Factory or Parlor Sports. The Banshee used to be my home bar. I loved the Irish boys and all the craic ( Irish for a good time). If you love a good brogue this is your bar!! Ahh to be young again and doing Jager bombs nightly and dancing on the bar or the back bench. Once I even picked a guy up threw him over my shoulder and carried him out of the bar and tossed him on the sidewalk for being a Yankees fan; ahh liquid courage. For night life the place is usually hopping friday, sat, and sunday nights after 10p. They are only open till 1a but Foley's is only a short cab ride away. The food here is typical Irish pub food. Go for the shepherds pie or the buffalo tenders; avoid at all costs bacon and scallops or nachos. If your hung over and happen to roll in here they make a mean Irish breakfast. read more

I guess this is a good place to go if you are from Ireland, but as an American girl, I am unimpressed (I know, I know, I should expect this in Dorchester; now I know better). I have gone here a few nights with my friend who lives in the area but each time the experience gets a little worse. Its mostly Irish guys who I cant understand one word they are saying, drunk people stumbling all over, and physical fights in the middle of the dance floor when the bouncers try to throw out guys who should've been cut-off eight drinks ago...so watch out and back away quickly once the fight starts or else you will get a big dude falling on you! The positive things are that the bar tenders are really nice and the DJs play good music about half the time which is fun to dance to. But once creepy guys start getting a little too close, the dancing stops being fun. But I guess if you are going there for the meat-market scene, then it is a good choice for you because both guys and girls will easily find many drunk people to choose from. read more
