Came for Sunday dinner and ordered the family platter - chicken, ribs, Mac n cheese, biscuits and vegetables. The ribs were great! Could've eaten those alone. The mac n cheese was good but could have been better had it come out hot. The chicken was tasty and the vegetables were ok. Tried the iced tea and it was as delicious as all the reviews have claimed. All in all, this place is good for chicken ribs and biscuits via take out, not necessarily a sit down dinner spot. They deliver as well, which is a plus. read more

Best ribs I've had!! I moved to the Charlotte, NC area a few years ago, BBQ central, and I haven't found better ribs here than the ones I had in the Bronx at this place. I never really appreciated this place until i tried other bbq places in the bx. thier ribs are some of the best ive tried! alot of meat and hardly no fat on the bones.Small and cozy joint, not fancy like the other rib resturants but the ribs they have make up for it ten fold!and they also deliver. The food is delicious and the owner is friendly. Everything seems to be made according to the owner's original recipes: flavorful samosas, rosemary chicken so tender that it falls off the bone, mashed sweet potatos with a light Indian spice, and the aromatic eggplant/roasted red pepper/tofu dish are some of the items my husband and I have tried. Food is good but the delivery service is horrible. Placed an order at 5:20 with and expected delivery time of 6:20-6:30. Called them when the food didn't arrive by 7:05 and they claimed it was out for delivery. No apology or excuse. GREAT!!! - I am visiting my sister and she recommended the Barbecue Pit for lunch... I recently moved to Missouri from California... and miss the good salads and fish... WoW!!! We were headed in the direction of the Bronx burger house, craving a burger, when we passed this little hole in the wall and decided to give it a try and I am SO glad we did. We ordered two pork somosas to start and they were delicious and crispy and the mango chutney made them that much better. For dinner, The ribs were fall off the bone amazing. Probably one of the best rack of rib I've ever had. The barbecue sauce was delicious too. We also had the fried chicken which was made to order and so fresh, so crunchy and so juicy, my mouth watered! Both entrees came with two sides so we got Mac and cheese, delicious, corn bread, pretty good, and mashed potatoes, good. We got the sweet tea to drink and it brought me to the south. I cannot say enough about how much I love this place. The ribs, chicken, turkey meatloaf, turkey chili are all excellent. The Tandoori Chicken is not to be believed!! The ribs, whether the regular or the Babyback, fall off the bone! .The spinach is wonderfully flavored with Indian spices and the cole slaw is a mandatory side dish with the ribs in my book. The pies, especially the Key Lime is absolutely amazing. They do a big delivery and take out business and the small, quaint restaurant, with only a few tables is frequently empty, or maybe a table or 2 are filled (although I dont know why there arent more eat in diners, it's fine in my book). You NEVER feel rushed and Ronnie the owner is always happy to brew a fresh pot of coffee even if only 2 people would like a cup. This review is for only for the delivery....maybe the food is different if you actually dine at the restaurant. The portion sizes were ok for the price, however the food was oily and gross, and lacked any flavor. I ordered mac and cheese, grilled salmon, and fries. My meal was paid for by my comapny that night so I discarded most of the food because it was just terrible. Worst takeout ever!! Ordered 1/2 rack of spare ribs n 1/2 rack of baby back ribs. Both came out charred n burnt!! Like who delivers burned ribs! The sides were nasty n bland! Supposedly the prices on the menu that we had were not the current one so they charged us at the current prices n when we got the food the menu in the bag reflected the old prices. So basically we got robbed!! I say Boston market ribs are much better n cheaper than them...stay away! read more

I can't imagine a better vegetable samosa, or a better samosa crust. And always reliably perfect. Followed with a fresh ground turkey burger with bacon that may well be the best I've had. It needs a more structured bun, and I so wish the fresh cut fires would be hotter and more crisp, but when the feeling you're ultimately left with is, "That was delicious!" that's all one needs to know. Took home a piece of apple pie that was filled with fresh apples perfectly cooked within a pie crust that hits the mark in taste and texture, and doesn't mush up from the apples. All just sweet enough without being too sweet as so many desserts tend to be. And it's so relaxed there. No pretensions, and therefor it transports one to a quieter, more peaceful state of mind. I've only been here once. I live in Riverdale but rarely eat out here. Why bother? I'm a good cook and the majority of the local restaurants are barely OK. ( Beccofino is an exception, but it turns out to be rather pricey.) So one night I wanted to get take out, and I turned to YELP and saw the Barbecue Pit. I've lived in the neighborhood for 20 years but had no idea that this place was just down the street from me. I noticed the praise and the warnings. But I was hungry. I went in and yes it felt very cozy and family run. I watched the cook and chatted with the waiter as I waited for my take out. I ordered sauteed greens and mashed potatoes to go with the ribs. When I got home, I devoured the ribs. They fell off the bone, and the sauce was terrific. The sauteed greens had a spicy bite to them, but the mashed potatoes were just so so. Nevertheless, I would definitely order the ribs again. I still remember their taste and that was a few months ago. read more

This is my favorite place for BBQ Ribs. I can't speak for anything else on the menu. I usually get the rack of spare ribs with cornbread and fries. They first serve you some corn chips with salsa, very good stuff!! The fries are fresh cut fries and thin. The cornbread is very good, not very sweet, and just buttery enough. Awwwww and the Ribs!! I went to check this place out after seeing how recent the reviews were and how high of a rating the BBQ Pit received. I was very disappointed with the food. First, right in front of me they microwaved the mac & cheese, and mash potato after taking them out of Tupperware containers. Second, they took out the meat from the freezer already cooked and just heated it up on the grill. All this for $13. NEVER BUY THIS FOOD..doesnt even taste great. It's a complete ripoff. I am pregnant and I ate at the BBQ Pit. Big Mistake. I ended up getting food poisoning from the chicken. About six hours after eating, I was extremely nauseous and I was throwing up. It was the first time I had felt these symptoms the whole time I was pregnant. I realized later that the chicken was only luke warm. It was probably sitting around all day and not microwaved properly. I also noticed after I ate that the cooks were not wearing gloves. Isn't that cooking 101? I blame myself but I thought restaurants have some kind of cleanliness standards. I would not recommend anyone to go to this restaurant. read more

An interesting little spot in North Riverdale, run by an Indian-American woman. The food is good and reasonably priced, with a bunch of pub grub and bbq standards available. They add some Indian touches to things, e.g. you can get order a samosa, and there is a dash of Indian spice on the meat. They offer tasty pies that are made in house, too. I give this restaurant 3 stars because I really enjoy their food. Love their BBQ chicken and the Baby Back Ribs along with their sides. The only problem recently was that i ordered delivery recently and it took about 2 hours to be delivered to me. I was not told about the wait when I first placed the order and when i called back the nice woman said they were backed up and food would arrive hot. When food finally arrived it was warm/fresh but I would have thought that a discount or something free (slice of pie) would have been given because of the 2 hour delivery wait! I am questioning placing another order with them anytime soon. read more

This place sucks. I read reviews on it before i ordered food and thought i would be pleased... Yeah right! When i called i must admit the lady was really nice. I was at the hospital with my son so i made a delivery of baby back ribs with fries and a coke. When it got there the delivery guy didnt even have change with him. He had to leave to get it. So when he finally got it for me, before i could even hand him his tip, he demanded that he get a tip and complained about how he had to drive all the way to the hospital. Umm thats ur effing job!!!! Ugh i was pissed. On top of that the food was all black. Even the french fries. It was all burnt and it tasted burnt. The ribs were small and not alot of meat on it. More like burnt bones. I took a pic but idk if i can post it here. Overall : Hated it!! Waste of 15.75 ( plus the tip ) grrrrr!!! Never again. I wouldnt reccomend this place to anyone. read more

The fried chicken is the least greasy I've ever had. The crust is also has a tasty flavor. Everything here seems really fresh and has a very clean quality. For example, I believe the french fries are cut to order from new potatoes for every customer. They certainly taste that way. Another thing which I really like is that the food has been CONSISTENTLY good from one visit to the next. I've only tried the ribs and chicken so far but I can say that every time I've been there I've been pleased. read more

Save your money! Just ate here with my s.o., and he said, "The best part of dinner was my Corona." We had the pork ribs as appetizers. The meat was well cooked and tender, but the overall taste was just okay. We had to layer on BBQ sauce and hot sauce to get some semblance of flavor. The entrees, however, were downright disappointing. We both had the 1/4 chicken with 3 ribs. My sides were the mac n cheese and the sweet potatoes. The mac n cheese tasted like something out of a blue box--there was NO cheese or flavor. The sweet potatoes were doused with cinnamon and some other poorly measured spices that made them unbearable. My s.o. had the corn and spinach as sides. The corn wasn't even on the cob. Instead, it and the spinach tasted like it lived in a can. The chicken was dry and poorly seasoned. The ribs were the best part, but they just weren't great. The menu sounds promising, but the quality was below that of a school cafeteria. We WON'T be back. read more
