Had the dogs boarded over Thanksgiving. They were very happy and well cared for when I picked them up. I was told our lab got to play with the bigger dogs and there is an area where our doxie played with the small dogs. They were able to share a small room to sleep in at night. I can't believe I've never reviewed The Bark House!!! It's my favorite dog place in Reno after Rancho San Rarely dog park! It was reccomended to us when it first opened by a family member and we have loved them ever since. Our dogs were one of the first batch of doggie guests and they even put a little plaque up for us with our dogs on it. They frequently have community events here like vaccination clinics. They even trimmed our giant golden baby's toenails last time which is an achievement in itself! The kennel area features several private doggie rooms with glass doors around the perimeter and a large common play area for dog group play in the center. My dogs get plenty of execise here and have never come home stressed or sick (not the case for other local kennels). I could not love or trust this place more. read more

Best place to take your pups! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always greet my labradoodles by name. They have helped us in a bind with last minute reservations and have been flexible to changes. My dogs get super excited right when we pull up, and after I pick them up they will sleep for hours. We have always had very positive experiences with The Bark House. They're always friendly and they welcome our boy by name. My wife and I are moving to Reno. Well, I already did. I brought our two boys with me. My wife spent 3 weeks calling doggie daycares in the Reno, Sparks, Carson City area. After talking I believe all of them she picked The Bark House. The owners and staff of The Bark House are amazing. My boys love going there and hate coming home. When they get home the have just enough energy to eat then they crash out on the couch for the night. I wouldn't pick any other daycare for my boys ever in the Reno area. This place is amazing!!! The staff truly cares about your pups and are incredibly accommodating. I have boarded our 2 dogs twice already this past month and will be continuing to use them in the future for boarding and day care. Their boarding and day care prices are reasonable, and the facility is very clean. They have a play area for big dogs and a separate area for little dogs, and your pups will play ALL day. I love that they allow you to drop off and pick up at your convenience during their business hours. Our dogs come back exhausted and happy. They also took extra care and effort with one of our dogs we thought wouldn't be able to do group play, and he's now a happy member of The Bark House "pack" and playing nicely with others! We can leave for trips now without feeling guilty, because I know our dogs are in good hands AND having a blast. We boarded our dogs a total of four times at this facility, and the first three times were without problems. The family/staff seemed to be caring and knowledgeable, although one family member was known and seen yelling at all the dogs to to shut up. Sorry, but that's what dogs do at a kennel or care center. The last time when we returned from a five day trip, our youngest and smallest dog was carried out, and we told that she ate the wrong food and suffered the runs and sat in It. They said they didn't have time to give her a bath before picking her up and the other pups. When we got them home, the pup they carried out could neither stand nor walk and was in apparent distress. We took her immediately to our vet where she was x-rayed and she was diagnosed with a herniated disc that was seemingly congenital. She underwent spinal surgery later in the day at a specialist veterinary hospital that was successful in all ways. The issue that we have with the Bark House is simple: it was obvious that our dog was immobile and in distress, and they should have called to apprise us of the situation immediately, whether the first day or the last night as they purport. We would have made the necessary arrangements to see that our dog received immediate medical attention. How long was our dog in this condition, we have no idea, but we are somewhat upset that they did not have a procedure to inform us of such an eventuality. Instead, they chose to give us a tall tale. I boarded 2 of my dogs here over the Memorial day weekend. They stayed 2 nights and they seemed to of had an amazing weekend! My dogs were exhausted when they got home and that has never happened. I picked them up early because I came home early from my trip and they were perfectly fine with that and the dogs were ready to go when I picked them up. Whenever I have to go out of town, or even if its just for day care, the Bark House in Sparks is the only place I would ever take my dogs. They are family owned and operated, take amazing care of our animals, and besides being caring and loving people, they are my friends. I never ever worry about my pups there. I even get pic updates! I was looking for a place to kennel my maltipoo in Reno. I am so glad I found this place. The staff was really nice. My dog seemed to happy and healthy when I picked her up. I will definitely use this place next year when I come back. We left her for about 5 days. They use really good dog food, so if you forget to bring yours they will use their food. Our dogs are problem children. One was dog-agressive and one was shy towards people and gets a nervous stomach and gets the runs. We tried boarding them last year and it didn't go great. We were really nervous to try it again. We talked to them on the phone initially and told them about our problems. They were very nice and understanding and we booked our 7 night stay shortly after. Unlike the other place, they gave us a tour right away, talked to us again about the agression and nervous stomach and said that they would try to introduce the mean one to all they other dogs slowly to get her adjusted and that she would be able to play, because they suspected it was protective behavior. They also offered to give the nervous one pumpkin to help with the stomach. Both dogs came home healthy, happy, and had been playing with the other dogs all week! We will definately be coming back for all our boarding/daycare whenever we are in town. read more

We recently moved to the Sparks area and needed to board our two dogs and ended up at The Bark House. I can't tell you how awesome Thomas was about taking care of our dogs. The man clearly loves dogs and is in the right job. Our move was very stressful and it seemed like everything that could go wrong did... except here. I, like I am sure most of you are, are very particular with where I board my dog. Especially since she is a French bulldog. They have can have special needs, no pools, little bullish with other dogs, etc. So I am very particular and do a ton of research before boarding her. Normally I try to stick with boarding at a vet. I know it's not as fun for her, but it makes me feel better. This time I decided to go another route and chose The Bark House. I cannot tell you how happy I am with this choice! She came back to me happy, and a little tired which shows me she had a great time! She played well with the other pups and Everyone was incredibly kind. Answered all my dumb questions and were more than happy to take my calls checking on her. I was able to see where she would be staying and playing and was very pleased! This was my first time boarding my dogs and I couldn't have had a better experience!! All of the staff is so awesome and you can tell they LOVE what they do! It's really hard to find that nowadays. As soon as I dropped them off I knew they were in good hands. When we picked them up the staff, once again, were amazing! They told us how well the pups behaved and how much fun they had. What a wonderful place! I have lived in Reno for 22 years and have tried many kennels for my various dogs- they have always been isolated. Everyone at The Bark House is great and our dog can't wait to go there when we leave for work in the morning. The staff seems to know all of the dogs very well and always have good stories about playtime when we pick her up at the end of the day. They were very welcoming and brought us to the play area for a tour when we were looking for a dog daycare and answered all of our questions. They keep us up to date on our dog's shot records, send emails as new shots need to be scheduled and are always quick to respond when we have questions. I wouldn't take my dog anywhere else and they make it really easy to keep coming back with great prices and making us and our dog feel like part of their family. read more

The Bark House was recommended by some friends of mine. When I inspected the boarding area and the play areas it was clear that they treat animals like they are their own family. Thomas may look ferocious but is a big teddy bear and will love your dog like it is his own. The individual kennels are clean and spacious. I took Bentley to boarding while I was in California visiting family. When he was younger he was bit by two dogs and ever since than he has been known to be somewhat dog aggressive. I walk into the The Bark House to pick him up. The lady at the front desk tells me I have to go into the back because they have a surprise for me. I walk back into the kennels and see Bentley with "the pack" of dogs playing with them! I couldn't believe what I was seeing, and Bentley looked so happy! I live in the Bay Area and was skeptical about leaving my Bassett Hound Buddy with them. I had never left Buddy at a boarding facility before. I must say I was quite impressed. They even went out of the way and posted pictures of my Buddy online so I can see how he was doing. The staff was very friendly, especially Michelle at the front desk. I called The Bark House to inquire about doggy daycare. The information seemed good, but it is important to me to know what a place looks like before I would consider leaving my dog in their care and I was told they only do "tours" from 10-2. As it was 1:33p, I told they owner that I was on my way and arrived at 1:55p. The business has an attractive exterior (painted windows with flowers, etc). When I went inside I introduced myself as the person who had just called. He looked at his watch and said, "You have 5 minutes--hope you have your running shoes on." He took me behind two closed doors and showed me a spacious room (Room #1) that they use for boarding. Next to that was a 5' (estimate as I'm 5'3") wrought iron type fence and then behind that I could see another solid wall/enclosure which is where the dogs are apparently kept during daycare. I asked to see inside that area and he said, "No, that is what the fence is for..." There was no other explanation and that comment seemed terse. (Wow!) I explained that I'd like to see inside by looking over the solid wall because I wanted to see where my dog would be during the day (and I also wanted to see the other types/numbers of dogs that were there). I also wanted to see the type of surface that the dogs would be playing on and the cleanliness of the area. The owner stated that the surface was the same that was in the #1 boarding room and throughout the facility. The owner declined to show me anything other than the wall; as I'm only 5'3" I could not see over the wall and I guess that is the intention. At this point, I was somewhat upset. I'm thinking why did I drive there to be shown a wall? My thought was, what is behind that wall that I can't see? I reiterated, "Really, I can't just look over the wall?" Owner: "Nope." So I left... This was such an odd interaction for me. I've been looking at doggy daycare facilities throughout the town and have been given tours that allowed to see where my dog would actually be along with seeing staffing, cleanliness, etc. I see the reviews are good but, for the life of me, I can't imagine that I am the only person who wanted to see where their dog would be kept. In addition, another concern of mine was the stench in the facility was awful! It didn't smell of dog feces/urine as would be expected. It was just an awful odor mixed with a hint of feces/urine. In closing, I wouldn't take my dog to this facility. read more

I decided to take my dog here at the recommendation of my parents, who are friends with the owner (Crystal?). They raved about the place. After my experience, I am not sure why. The woman I spoke with on the phone was so unbelievably incompetent that I was already nervous about taking my dog there. But I decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt, so I filled out alll of the paperwork needed ahead of time (since I couldn't get there until 6 to drop my dog off). I figured that would streamline things. However, when I arrived to what looked like a holding cell in a jail, I was led down a concrete hallway and into an office that had piles of dog pee and poop in corners. I understand that dogs make messes, but that is not a good first impression-if she keeps her office like that, what in the world does the animal's area look like? After fumbling with my paperwork for 10 minutes I had to show her where the date on his shot records were to prove that they were up to date. Then she just got up and took the leash from me and said "Thanks, we will see you in a few days." I asked her if I could see where he would be staying, which I think is a reasonable request. She told me that touring hours were between 10-3 and that if I wanted to see the place "they had pictures online." Needless to say, it was hard for me to enjoy my trip because I was so stressed out about my dog- especially since I rescued him from the pound not too long ago and he has separation issues. When I picked him up, the same woman I have deemed incompetent was there. She had LOST all of his paperwork and didn't even have his name on file, or any of my information, so I had to go through everything again! And I STILL have not even seen what the inside of the place looks like. I was not impressed at all. The only reason I would even give this place 1 star is because I do not think that my dog was harmed or neglected at all. However, the woman I dealt with was extremely unprofessional and gave the place a bad name. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my dog-who is pretty much my baby-in the hands of someone who was so inept with simple clerical work. Leaving your pet in the hands of somebody else is a very delicate situation. You want to feel comfotable and happy with the facility that has your animal, and trust that they will be in good hands. This place just made me frustrated and upset and ruined my trip, and all I could think about was whether or not my dog was ok. I will definitely not be going back here. read more

I take my sweet little Roxy to The Bark House for daycare 2-3 times a week. She gets so excited when we pull into the driveway and can't control herself when we park. She can't wait to get inside. I call Thomas her boyfriend because she just melts when she sees him. She always jumps out of the car and runs inside. She just loves going to daycare. When my mom has to pick her up, they bring Roxy outside to her because it's hard for my mom to get in and out of the car. They are all so nice and are so good with the dogs. They call Roxy by name everytime she walks in. What a great bunch of people! Michelle and Wiggo are so friendly when i see them on the weekends. I never thought I would board my dog but I have no doubt my little girl will be taken good care of when I go on vacation and I leave them in their hands. The Bark House has been amazing with our dog (a 6 year old doberman/shepherd)! We moved to Reno about a year ago and they have been very available and accommodating with our busy schedule. I love seeing the pictures they take of our dog playing in the water, or running with the pack! I highly recomend the Bark House. I had never kenneled my dog and had many worries. I was given a tour and really liked the fact that it's almost 24 hr supervision, the dogs get to play together all day, it's clean and new, the guys throw balls to keep them moving and it's reasonably priced. We left our dog at the bark house for five nights and from drop off to pick up it was a complete joke. We had gone in for a tour on Monday, liked it and told them we would be there to drop her off Thursday and pick up Monday morning. The lady didn't put down we were dropping off and so when I went in they had no idea. It took an extra twenty minutes to drop off since they didn't know if I had filled out the correct paperwork. I did fill it out when we did the tour. So then I get an email confirming that I would pick up on the second of May and when we go in this morning the same lady who was suppose to put us down for drop off said oh you were suppose to pick her up last night. She says "I think you need to pay an extra night," mind you I paid for five nights already before we left. I showed her the email and then she says "oh I believe you people make mistakes" and then laughed in my face. Then to top it off there is a guy that works there that picks up the poos and cleans the kennels and he gives me my dog and asks me if I have everything I say yes but then he wants to ask my husband and my husband says well no you guys screwed up on our drop off date and pickup date and he tries to argue saying this is the first time I've met your dog. My husband just said we aren't going to argue with you and he ran back inside. What we said about pickup and drop off had nothing to do with whether or not he had met my dog for the first time or not. He has no customer service at all and neither did the lady, they have no idea the business they just lost. We were going to book another two weeks if it went well but now we will go else where. This guy also argued with us when we did the tour and started arguing that we didn't have the correct shots but he just couldn't read the paperwork from the vet. We had them all done in February. I would not recommend this place to anyone it's a joke! read more

We went to Sparks to attend our grand daughters high school graduation and we needed day care for our little chihuahua, Rocky. I found The Bark House on line and it was close to the hotel I had already booked. I was able to get all the information and requirements off of their web site. I called and spoke with Krystal a few weeks ahead and she was very nice on the phone and understood all my concerns. When the time came to drop Rocky off, my husband was a bit apprehensive as The Bark House is in an industrial area. When we arrived, we were greeted by 2 employees and I'm sorry I don't remember their names, but we were immediately put at ease and knew Rocky was in good hands. When we picked Rocky up he was very calm and we knew we had made the right decision for our baby. I highly recommend The Bark House to anyone who needs a few hours or few days for their four-legged babies whether living in or visiting in the Sparks or Reno area.
