Guthrie and his team always take care of us for events and I love their food and wine/drink selection as a customer myself. What a cool place! The ambiance, music and interior decorations were awesome. I felt right at home immediately. Christopher, the owner, is so accommodating and kind. Throughout the night he was visiting customers at their tables and at the bar. The bartenders were all professionals and very good. I never had to wait long for a drink and they checked on me regularly even when the place was full. I went for an event that I had seen on Facebook. I love Dogfish Head Brewery. They had a tasting of several different beers. It was great. Loved the beers and got to try the Cauliflower Soup and the Truffle Popcorn. Both were delicious. Even got a recommendation from the bartender and a guest for a Whiskey. So tasty. A great Seattle crowd. There was evidently a Meet-Up group that had come and many solo patrons, like myself, as well as groups at booths and couples. I highly recommend The Barrel Thief to visitors and Seattlites alike! We made reservations for our first and only visit. The waitress was immediately rude despite the fact that we ordered the most expensive drinks on the menu. We would've ordered more if our requests were in stock. We took from Bremerton and TBT was on our list of spots to visit, which it turned out it was a waste. Thankfully The Back Door at Roxy's treated us right. We spent about $300 at Roxy for 4 people and only $46 at TBThief. The two stars are given for the ambiance... as it was decorated beautifully. Went to meet up with friends at seven and stayed here till past ten. The waiter was really friendly and educated us on different whiskey when we asked. It was very interesting to learn about different origins and tastes. They have a very large selection of whiskey (over 100) and even larger collection of wines (over 200) The food was great but no big plates So dont come too hungry But the plates are filling The chicken pot pie was really great and enough for one person. This place has a nice ambiance and a fantastic selection of whiskey and other spirits. The food is not dinner fare, per de- more like small plates which all looked fantastic (our table ordered some but I didn't try, since I was full for dinner). My only complaint is that the pours I received were EXCEPTIONALLY small. I first ordered a flight of Mezcal (4 of them) and the tastes were so small you could only sip (TINY sip) twice. Not a normal sip but the kind of sip you might take if you thought you might be tasting horse piss. It really wasn't enough to have an experience of the drink. Disappointing for a 35 dollar flight. We were a party of 10 and everyone at the table seemed pretty shocked at how light the pours were. My husband had two rum drinks. I had the flight of mezcal and an additional house mezcal which was also a disappointing quantity (I have bartending experience and these were all light pours). We got out of there for 80 bucks. I love having a variety of spirits to choose from but I don't think this is a place I would go back to, given the little bang for the big bucks. read more

Been there today, the food was pretty decent and there is an interesting selection of wine and tea. But it is all ruined by the service, one of the worst I have encountered in the neighborhood! When there are 8 customers in the cafe and 4 waiters, I expect at least 1 waiter to come ask me if I need anything else. It doesn't take 15mn to bring a glass of wine and almonds. When I open the menu, read it for 2 minutes, close it and reopen it twice, it means that I actually WANT something. The interior is awesome, the vodka, scotch and general booze selection is fantastic. They offer over 150 wines by the glass, and the staff is super nice. My only complaint is the service is slow. We sat at the bar, and the two bartenders were running around doing everything, but there weren't that many people at the bar. Some old dishes were sitting out, and getting another drink or food item seemed to be more difficult than necessary. I think it's because they recently rebranded and working stuff out. If I was a big drinker I would not have been so disappointed with the service and available beverage options. I am not. I attended a company holiday party here, and the catered cold appetizers provided were quite good, high end salamis, cheeses, roasted almonds, dolmas, hummus, and flat bread pizzas. However, their choice of non alcoholic drinks is almost non existent. I ordered a plain cranberry juice, and was given (no joke) plain water with red food coloring and a little bit of sweetener. I sent it back with a request for real juice, and was given a glass of concentrated food coloring and ascorbic acid, no detectable cranberry flavor whatsoever. I have had cranberry concentate before, and that was not it. The server actually said their 'cranberry juice' was a mix for the 'starvation alley low-calorie crowd,' but that still doesn't explain the lack of any cranberry content in their so called cranberry juice, or the lack of ANY lemon-lime well soda (no sierra mist, no seven up, no sprite) whatsoever. For my taste, this place was not worth the expense & the lack of any free or paid parking anywhere less than 6 blocks from the location on a mid-week night. Only worth it if you don't feel like you've had a good experience if you don't pay at least 3 times what the food & service are worth. read more

Really cool spot in Fremont with a fabulous collection of whiskey and wine. I was with all wine drinkers and we loved the extensive menu, with tons of options are various price points. My Argentinian red was only 8 bucks and it was a winner. I appreciated the Riedel stemware, too. Just makes a glass of wine that much better! Intimate bar in the back-alleys of Fremont, Barrel Thief is one of the classier establishments in the area. I recently went there late on a warm weekend night. The have an extensive wine and spirits list, so a great place for connoisseurs. The place is tastefully decorated. It has cozy booths and a dark & quiet ambiance, so it is a great place for dates or small groups. The place is not too big, so I wouldn't recommend it for large noisy groups. They also have an outdoor patio, which is more of a bar style seating than actual tables. Even though it overlooks the road, it is pretty quiet in that part, so it's a cool place and also nicely lit up at night. Since it was a warm day, most people sat outside. We got cocktails to drink. I had the Trampled Underfoot, a bitters & tea-infused rye based cocktails. It was pretty smoky but I didn't particularly enjoy it. My friend got a Galactic Center, which is a fruity rye based drink, an award winning drink. That was spectacular, and the flavors complimented each other really well. We got truffle popcorn, which was unique, but nothing special, and gnocchi, which was excellent, but the portion was really small. The place is reasonably priced, with cocktails from $10-12. But the food is pretty expensive and not worth the cost in my opinion. They have a large liquor and wine list, and also do pairings with cheese which is a good value. This is one of the few classier establishments in the area, and I will definitely be back again. I would recommend this place for a quiet drink, or if you want to avoid the crowd on 36th st. read more

Stopped in during the Summer Solstice parade and was super lucky to get a table. I had a Manhatten that was tasty and my girl had the Morrocan ice tea wich was so refreshing. we ordered the tacos and we told they were out but offered us any other entree on the house! Came here for my birthday brunch with family and friends on a December morning. We had a party of about 15 people and were able to sit in a private section off to the side of the front door. Service was great and I had a mimosa in hand shortly after arriving. Almost everyone ordered the baked eggs or French toast and all were wonderful. I hosted a birthday party here and cannot say enough good things about Barrel Thief! Every other location I looked into had a demanding "minimum", expensive catering, and their staff felt very stuffy and exclusive. However, with Chris and his staff at Barrel Thief, they were incredibly accommodating, and such a pleasure to work with. They managed to be both laid-back and professional, and took care of everything. I ordered several of their party platters and truffle popcorn and was really happy with the results. My guests all enjoyed their cocktails/spirits/wine options as well. Overall, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend them for any small event, or if you just want to swing in for a drink. I'll certainly be a repeat customer. read more

I really want to like this place. I liked the big booth and how quiet it was in the middle of the afternoon. I like the boardgames and checking out the counter and wall. I like the decor. I would, however, have to say their pots of tea are tiny. I can't believe that ginger-peach tea was $4 and they call it a pot. It was maybe one mug full. The pots cool though. Also, the sipping chocolate gave me a headache. It's too rich but now I know better. Cool space. We chose a large table and within my party ordered beer, tea, flour less chocolate cake and a cookie crust cheese cake! To die for! I ordered a roobois that went wonderfully with the cheesecake. There was definitely a great wine selection although we did not partake. There were a few random board games oh a shelf, we grabbed a deck of cards and played hearts while we enjoyed our treats. We were helped by the gentleman who works here and he was very thorough with his customer service. It's a walk up to the counter type deal - so don't be alarmed if you sit down and no one comes by to take your order. They have all their teas categorized so it's easy choosing if you're a new tea drinker. Same goes to the wine. They had 4 chocolate truffles going while we were there - maple sea salt and another one i can't really remember, but both were delicious! This is a cute little place to meet up with friends - they have a bunch of events they put on too, found on their website i think. I've walked by several times and read the menu. Decided to finally stop in and made a coffee date with a friend. While I waited, I noticed another woman waiting. When her friend didn't show she canceled her order [which hadn't been started yet]. Then my friend didn't show either and I stayed any way since I'd stopped in. The name isn't very imaginative, but the place is nice--I really loved the decor. Most of the tables were taken, and there was only one poor waitress [she was delightful and calm] and one girl cooking. So, service was quite slow.
