Checked it out this last weekend and while it was a good location and environment, service was pretty slow. It was about half full when we arrived, and a few more people came in, but I expected the service to be quicker. I may try it again, but am not sure if the cost/benefit is worth it for me. read more

I am in love with the chai tea lattes here--they make their own chai in a crock pot, and you can smell it as soon as you walk up to the bar. It's spicy, with the right amount of sweetness (not overly sweet, which I can't stand) and it's pretty to look at, too! Service tends to be a little on the dry side, but I wouldn't say it's bad, just shy types who aren't going charm the socks off of you. Aside from these things, the ambiance is also worth mentioning because it's lovely. It has a pretty bar, lot's of seating--both hidden and out in the open--and has a spacious, but cozy feel to it. One day I will venture out and order a cheese plate or some chocolate, but until then, I am content with the chai. read more

I always really want to like this place because it is near work, but each time I visit I am disappointed. We typically head in for happy hour/after work drinks. We used to visit for lunch (before the concept/name change). Atmosphere: the space is dark and could be cozy but instead is awkwardly set up and just not that welcoming and comfortable. Sitting outside in good weather is a nice option. Service: service always is slow. The servers seem to be across the board on knowledge and attentiveness. Food: haven't had food since the name/concept change. We used to come by for lunch before the change and the menu was limited, but food good was fine albeit expensive for what you got. Drinks: wine selection is very good. Prices range from fair to high, but not everyone would pick up on that (especially with the new system, I would expect a more uniform markup). Cocktails are fairly proved, but mocktails are a different story. $10 for a mocktail (and it was served 15 minutes after all the other drinks?!) - no thank you. Because we head in fairly early, none of us have tried the whiskey flights and that likely is our loss. For now, given experience, I'd say know your wine so you can make a good choice or grab a cocktail as they are typically very good. Overall, we visit because it's an easy and convenient choice to walk to from work and we all want it to succeed even if it's not a favorite place that we would go out of our way for if it were not so close to our office. read more

I love Wine Tea Chocolate and highly recommend it to others. This is a gem in the city for many reasons: the food is great, the wine is wonderful and reasonably priced, and the staff is fantastic. Everyone who works there is incredibly nice and super helpful when you have a question. The owner, Christopher, is an absolute sweetheart. The truffle popcorn is addictive and the chocolate fondue is out of this world good. I also love the Mediterranean platters with hummus, dolmas, nuts and olives, yum! You can't go wrong with the food or drinks here. I found this place when a couple of girl friends and I went out for some drinks. We saw Wine Tea Chocolate and decided to give it a try. Instantly I loved it as it felt like a neighborhood joint with a lot of character and a great atmosphere. It felt like a homegrown bar/restaurant with its own personality. I decided to ask if it would be possible to host an event at the location given the great open space and the small private room off to the side. Christopher and the staff were more than accommodating and I ended up using it as the location for 3 separate events and have recommended it to various other people who walked away with a similar love for the place and the people as I did. It is a great place to meet up with a few friends for drinks and food or host a larger event. Christopher is super easy to work with and very flexible. It felt like I was working with a friend when I was organizing my events with Christopher and he was welcome to any suggestions I had. Another great perk is that he is reasonable in his pricing for hosting event. I have nothing but great things to say about Wine Tea Chocolate and I look forward to my next visit or my next event I host there. read more

Been here many times! Ever time it was been a wonderful experience and different vibe. Happy hour is laid back with great drinks (so much to choose from) and can turn into dinner and drinks-great place for groups!! Dinner after work with a co worker - sat outside and had fantastic food!! The truffle popcorn is a must! Then I've gone late at night and day at the bar-really fun and exceptional bar tenders. I had John (AMAZE DRINK ARTIST!!!) make me something fun and told him what my favorite drink was...WOW he knocked my socks off with the unique drink he made. I ended the night with some homemade pizza-yes they roll out the dough in front of you and bake it right there-it's the best!!! This is one of those places that works for everything from happy hour to dinner to date night to work events to solo drink at the bar! read more

This is a solid place for wine and light food. They have really cool booths and a few couch-y places that would be great for a group. I really liked the selections of wines by the glass that they organize on the menu by price, which I appreciated. The server did a good job of making recommendations. The food was good. Have been here 3 times now. I really enjoy their cocktails (burnt whiskey smash! Old tomcat!) and the flight of whiskey (which taught me that I have expensive tastes and can therefore never afford to truly enjoy whiskey). Also enjoy the selection of finger food/appetizers. Especially the cheese duo (such a nice complement to wine, and love the fig jam), the broccolini, and the hummus plate. Flat bread pizzas have been hit or miss for me. I especially disliked a mushroom pizza, which looks like it has been removed from the menu (good call). I did enjoy the "simply good" flat bread, but it is literally just a small pizza crust brushed with oil, so listing it at the top of the pizza menu seems ambitious. That said, overall I like going to the Barrel Thief for small plates, good cocktails, friendly service, and a comfortable patio. It is a really nice place to spend a summer evening. read more

This place definitely deserves a good plug! I was looking for a spot to get 20-30 folks together to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. I wanted somewhere nice, but I didn't want to spend a fortune. This was the perfect spot. I was a bit surprised because I hadn't ever been there before, but I'm glad we tried it. Here's what I liked best: Outstanding customer service. The owner was great to deal with on the phone when I was reserving the room and asking questions about menu, etc., and the staff were outstanding the night of the party. As the party planner, it really made MY evening nice! Everyone working there seemed to like working together, to know what our party was about, and was quietly attentive to our needs whether checking on us in the private room area or serving us directly at the bar. Very professional group. Their semi-private room allows you to spill out into the main restaurant as needed -- so our guests didn't feel cooped up in one room. But we never felt in conflict with other diners either. There was no charge for the room and no minimum charge for food/drinks for a group our size. Finding that in the heart of Fremont seemed like a score. It's walkable to other fun bars/restaurants in Fremont, so people had choices for where to go before or after the party. My wife and I have been here several times for drinks. The selection of whiskey can't be beat, with lots of choice for other spirits as well as beer and wine. I had the good fortune to organize a corporate event here as well, combining a mixology class with a light dinner and whiskey flights. The owner/GM Christopher lead our class and gave phenomenal insights into some great cocktails from the simple Manhattan to the dangerous "Diplomatique Immunity." We used local liquor from Mischief Distillery, and owners Mike and Patty came by to say hello. John also helped us out with great service. All in all there aren't many places in Seattle with this combo of selection, service, knowledge, and friendliness. I can't recommend The Barrel Thief more highly, for your own event or just a quick drink the next time you are in Fremont. read more

Love, love, love The Barrel Thief. I walked past it a few times last year, thought it looked cute and was thrilled to see it was the location for a wine trivia event I signed up for through a Meet Up wine group. The MU organizer knows Christopher, the owner, and he rolled out the red carpet for us...such a fun night. I've been back several times since, introducing lots of friends to this little gem of a wine and whiskey bar and everyone always loves it. Several months later, I held a large group event here myself, of about 20 ppl, and Christopher was amazing. He stayed open later than usual, put an extra staff person on for our group and gave us extended happy hour pricing. The staff here is always friendly and attentive. An establishment like this has the potential to be pretentious, especially in Seattle, but it's not. Likely b/c the owner is from the oh-so-friendly Midwest. So far I've loved every wine I've tried and am working my way through my "Wine Passport" (ask your server about this). I've only had two dishes, as I'm gluten intolerant. The stuffed grape leaves are pretty good and a healthy, little h.h. nibble. I love the four cheese and roasted garlic pizza on the gluten-free crust. Order it w/o the olive oil drizzle on top, though. I think it's too oily with that added flourish. I hope Christopher expands the menu or changes it up from time to time...some nice salads and soups based on seasonal ingredients would be a nice change of pace or addition. A really great place with great staff and management...keep up the good work, Christopher! (BTW, ignore the review of one star from Jonah D. from January 2013. As the owner of The Barrel Thief pointed out in his follow-up comment, that guy was reviewing a completely different place. The host who was taking care of us was very disrespectful and treated us in a very condescending manner. The guy taking our orders has tattoos in his leg who treated us in an unfair manner. Great, low-key vibe, elegant decor, and nice selection of tasty food! My friend and I snacked a variety of delicious fresh olives and dolmas. I appreciated that the menu can accommodate a variety vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free preferences. This is such a cute place in Fremont! I happened to come here with a colleague because we were supposed to meet with someone. It's a very spacious setting and great place to sit and talk. It's not a very loud cafe and that's what I really liked about this place. They have counter service, as quick note. I appreciate that they have a LOT of teas to choose from. The Barrel Thief is one of my favorite places in Fremont. They have a huge wine and whiskey list and a nicely curated sparkling selection. They also have vegan options on their menu, including dessert! Every server we've had is extremely knowledgeable about both the wine and food menu, a huge plus when you're not sure what you want to drink/have special dietary needs. It's a great place to meet friends, go on a date, or just chill on the patio. Next time you're in Fremont, do yourself a favor and check them out. read more

First time visit last evening with three friends. Intimate, cozy space, glad we had reserved a table ahead of time. Terrific service, well informed and spot on. Our drinks, one draft, one apple pie cocktail and two "bartender surprises" were wonderful, well crafted and delicious. I had a great experience for my first time at The Barrel Thief, and I can't wait to go back! I RSVP'd to a wine tasting being held at The Barrel Thief for later in the month, and so I checked out the website because I never heard of this venue before, and holy awesome "wine and whiskey bar!" My two favorite things! My birthday was also this month, and thought The Barrel Thief would be a great venue to host a birthday gathering. I contacted Christopher (the Owner & General Manager), and he was more than helpful and accommodating to schedule my event. He was always prompt to respond, and answered all my questions. He helped make sure my event was going to be a great one. The night of my birthday gathering, the bartender greeted us, and showed us to our reserved section (The Velvet Room, which is a perfect little cozy spot for my 15-20 guests to drink, eat, and socialize). He also introduced us to Ben, our designated server. Now Ben. Ben is AMAZING. As if Christopher wasn't helpful enough to make sure we were accommodated, Ben just helped the night run that much more smooth. Ben has a plethora of knowledge of the wine and whiskey menu, he was super friendly and funny (best part about a server tending to 15-20 people), and he was on top of his game, period. He definitely made my event that much better. An absolute gem. The drinks were flowing, the bites and dessert were amazing, and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Great place to stop for dessert and conversation after dinner or perfect for hot drinks on a cold rainy day. They often have wine or food tastings which are kind of cool as well. A busy Saturday night and The Barrel Thief hosted our non-profit group's celebration gathering for Obama expanding the Pacific Remote Islands National Monument. (Yay!) The Barrel Thief was outstanding in going above and beyond for us - creating delicious platters of appetizers,circulating with our guests to bring drinks and making us all feel so welcome. They have an excellent floorspace - cozy yet open and well laid out for this type of event. The staff is so friendly and kind - that made the night. I'm headed back there to take advantage of the brunch menu which really caught my eye. A five-star place without a doubt! read more
