After a long day out at the lake, my friends and I decided to come here for dinner. We decided to order to-go because we wanted to just relax in our hotel. Upon entering they were complying with pandemic regulations as tables were spaced apart from each other, staff was wearing masks and gloves. We were actually greeted by the head chef of the restaurant which was really awesome because she recommended a lot of good additions to our food. We ordered the yellow curry (w/ mangoes as recommended by the head chef because they were in season) w/ our choice of meat. The mango addition is SOO GOOD. Highly recommend it!! We also ordered pad see yew noodles as well as fried rice, Thai tea, & their coffee to complete our order. Oh! Can't forget the mango sticky rice which was soo good too! Haha. Took less than 20 min. to get our order and they even gave us a small box to put all the food in (since we ordered a lot) to help us carry it all. The food & drinks were REALLY GOOD!! All of us were so happy we decided to try this place out. I can't wait to come back here if I'm ever in the area or passing by. Highly recommend eating at this place! You won't regret it. Worth every penny and you get your money's worth and proportions are awesome! ++ Customer Service!! All the staff were so nice! Everything was delicious! We ate way too much here. The only negative thing we could say would be that the spice is not as hot as normal 5 star Thai restaurants. We usually are a solid 2 that way when reheating the next day you are still able to eat it. 2 was basically a hint of spice here, it didn't build up to be hotter either. The best spicy drunken noodles (spicy basil) I have ever had! Something about the way they were sticky but not too sticky and incredibly flavorful made it an epic dish. You could taste the fresh basil and the dish wasn't greasy at all, it was like refined, real Thai food. I tried my friends yellow curry as well and it was silky and savory. Food came out so quick it was incredible. The green papaya salad was well done, it was not too acidic and all of the ingredients balanced each other out well. However, it was such a small portion! It was mostly lettuce that made it look big but in reality quite small. I've made papaya salad at home before so I know it's not that expensive to make... not sure why you wouldn't provide a heftier portion. Also, my partner got the basil fried rice and found it bland compared to other Thai places where he ordered the same exact dish being a creature of habit. Come for the noodles and the curries and skip the fried rice! I will be back for more delectable noodle pulls. read more

Chintzy. The quality and flavor of the food is and always has been the best in town, and The Basil very well knows that fact. They are also the most expensive in town, but with such high quality, they justify their high prices. I typically love their food and look forward to eating it. But when they hardly give you even close to sufficient quantity, there's a serious problem with value during these days of inflationary restaurant prices and tipping. For example, when I ordered basil chicken (kapow) for $17.95 and the take-out container is only half filled with what I imagine is less than $5.00 of food, that is without a doubt chintzy. When the tofu green curry I ordered at $23.95 is 80 percent sauce with hardly any substance, that's chintzy. They also up-charged an additional $3.00 (included in price above) for a tiny container of plain white rice, that's chintzy. Yes, the food is great, but be prepared for paying a lot for not a lot of substance. read more

My wife and I have loved the Basil for years, for it's delicious food, great service, and relaxing ambiance. I personally love the Basil because the food is always fresh, nutritious and great tasting - plus the portions are generous. Recently we chose them to provide catering for a 35-person birthday celebration at our home. We were extremely impressed by the time and attention that Chai gave to the planning of our event. The result was a beautiful set-up of amazing food and appetizers. Our guests totally loved it! As soon as my husband, a friend & I entered the door, 1st waitress announced, yes that loud--(& embarassing) that my 31 lb service dog--(polite, trained & wearing her official vest) wasn't allowed in. My order was paid for and told it would be ready by 3:45? Please if you can't pick up before 4:30 DO NOT have a pick up time before this available online. Makes zero sense.. change your hours please so others are not waiting or confused. Also when I mentioned the huge difference between the online site that does charge you btw for an online order and your kitchen real hours I was told to just wait until they open and then cook? Horrible experience I specifically ordered no egg fried rice and noodles and repeated multiple times only vegetable and tofu , and the lady repeated the order correctly, after 30 mins and long drive when we went for pick up we were given fried rice and noodles with egg. I was wondering about how good the Thai food here is and it delivered. I had both the green curry chicken and mango rolls. The green curry was pretty good and as expected from any Thai restaurant. The mango roll is what really piqued my interest because I haven't really seen this at any Thai place I've been to. I thought it was pretty good because it combined sweet with a little savory in a nice rice paper package. It came with a peanut sauce, which strange complemented the appetizer. This could be a hit or miss for some, but it's definitely something to try to formulate your own opinion. So if you're in Carson City and craving Thai, hit up this spot! read more

The service was great! The waitress was really nice and accommodating as soon as we walked in. My daughter was pretty cold and she was nice enough to point the heater towards us. Me and my girlfriend were passing by this city on our way to Tahoe. We decided to try this restaurant out based on their 4.5 stars. We were very disappointed. We ordered a variety of dishes to try since it was our first time here. The only dish we like was the curry puff appetizers. The tom yum was oily, papaya salad was bland, Bangkok fried rice was average, ginger duck okay, and noodles average. This place is very popular. They have plenty of tables . Even though they were busy , the waitress always had time to make sure our table had refills on our water cups . I order the cashew nut with chicken , it doesn't come with rice . So you have to order that . Also had the basil sample platter , most of it was fried tempera. The shrimp toast was the most tastiest and unique . It comes with 3 dipping sauce , the peanut sauce was the best. The food was okay . When I was about to order the shrimp dong yum soup, the picture in the menu shows that they serve in a hot boiling pot. So I told the staff i want one of those, the staff asked me back if I want large or small size. I pointed to the picture, then she said they don't serve the soup in those pots anymore. The other dish that we ordered is the Pow Kai, the picture shows the dish with minced meat. However when the dish was served, the meat is chunky and nothing looks like in the picture. I asked the staff why it looks different, she just said I didn't specifically request for the minced meat. So, is it my fault for not confirming the food would come out the same as shown in the menu? Gayle and I were returning yesterday from an afternoon in Reno visiting friends, when I suggested take-out on our way home. So as I was driving, Gayle was on the Yelp app looking at options. First we had to decide on cuisine and quickly agreed that we wanted either Thai or Indian. The green Curry option at The Basil caught her attention first, so Indian will have to wait for another day. She called in the order and inside of the promised 20 minutes, our order was ready. The Basel is conveniently located and easily spotted in Downtown Carson, with available parking being an easy walk from the restaurant. Upon entering, we were quickly and warmly greeted. The inside tables were nicely spaced per COVID precautions and the dining room seemed quite pleasant and attractive. Right now, Gayle and I will only dine outdoors or via take out, but we look forward to coming back for an indoor experience at a later date. I chose the Pad Thai noodles (with chicken) which was quite tasty and in huge (at least for me) portions. Gayle's Green Curry was equally delicious and plentiful. Hence, this will be our dinner 2 nights in a row. Another option will be to agree on 1 dish for both of us. Gayle and I are just sticking our toe into the greater Carson City restaurant scene, and we lots more to explore (including Indian and Chinese of course). We generally like Thai food - in fact I have only been to one Thai resturant that was awful, down the street from the Petersen auto museum in LA. This one is great, a good variety, ambiance is just fine, restroom is clean, staff are friendly, and efficient. There are as many variations of Pad Thai as of Irish Stew, or Italian meatballs, and Thai resturants differ from each other even more markedly than other ethnic places. So, if you liked one Thai version of Drunken Noodles that does not mean you will like another's version. But this place is just fine, and we have been many times, lunch and dinner. Only complaint is salt, too much for me, but so it is in almost every restaurant, whatever the ethnic orientation. Even prime rib and steaks in the "American" places tend to be oversalted. read more

My lunch was superb and my Panang curry was fragrant and I enjoyed every bite. This is the pace to bring friends and be adventurous and try every dish. It's a ma and pop restaurants. Everything we had was over the top. We started with their crispy calamari appetizer delicious and crunchy. We got two specials on the menu which were crispy soft shelled crab and shrimp and order with the drunken noodles and another with the pad Thai. They were both beyond flavorful with plenty of extra to share. They don't even scamp on the seafood. This restaurant is fabulous, traditional Thai food beautifully prepared and served. I had a chicken pineapple dish served in a coconut with coconut milk. We went a few times but last time we went we had my cousin and his Thai wife and daughter visiting us. They didn't order from the menu they just asked the server for things they liked and we all ate an amazing assortment Of appetizers, main dishes and rice. What a gem we have found in this restaurant! Stopped here for lunch with visiting family, as we were going to the Railroad Museum. We had the yellow curry and the Panang curry. Both were spiced just right and more chicken than I have ever seen in a chicken curry. What was really nice was the vegan selection for our vegan daughter and granddaughter. They had plenty of things to choose from on the menu and they had a difficult time deciding. They ended up with some spicy vegetables and some spicy noodles, which according to their accolades, each entrée was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. Parking was plentiful on the side streets with a two minute walk to the restaurant. We decided right then and there that we would definitely make the drive to Carson City to eat at the Basil restaurant in the future. read more
