We ordered 5 subs - steak and cheese, firecracker, big pig, Italian, and chicken bacon ranch. They were all decent. They need to figure out a better system for the kitchen. Our order took over 30 minutes to prepare. Someone ordered two subs after us and were told it would be 1 hr and 15 minutes. There is definitely a more efficient way to run the kitchen. Used to be one of our absolute favorite places to go. I hope the new owners can figure it out so they can keep this place going. read more

Get there early and you will probably see lobstermen unloading crates of lobster from the nearby harbor. It's not waterfront, but in the late fall you can see the bay through the trees after the leaves fall! Bonus! We ordered a traditional Maine style mayo lobster roll and a buttered lobster roll for comparison. The traditional Maine style mayo lobster roll was absolutely perfect! Just enough mayo to bind the fresh, plump, tender sweet cold water lobster meat. Oh and no fillers, just lobster meat (mostly tender sweet knuckle/claw meat, mmmmm) and just the right amount of mayo. Same for buttered lobster roll, just the right amount of clarified butter as a binder. No need to overpower the fresh delicate flavor of tender cold water lobster from Maine waters. Both lobster rolls were presented on an over stuffed buttered and grilled hot dog style roll. Plated with fresh, hot ,skin on shoestring fries and some house made slaw. Delicious! Both rolls perfect! Hard to tell which one we liked better. Maybe slight advantage to the traditional mayo style, just cause thats the way we like it. If you cant decide, We recommend you get one of each, split with a friend, and judge for yourself. Either way you wont be dissapointed. The Bayside store is not just a lobster roll place. Its a great old world style small market with something for everyone. You can get just about anything from breakfast, to a burger, to fresh house made soup, to a great selection of local craft beers! As soon as you walk in through the swinging screen door you feel automatically welcome. Seems like the place where there is always fresh hot coffee on and friendly staff to greet you. There are relaxing benches and some hightop counters to relax and enjoy your meal or a cup of coffee. Weather permitting, there is also casual and comefortable outside seating. Seems like a poorly run family business. Mom running the register who doesn't have a clue what is going on and a daughter or two in the back kitchen constantly yelling and fighting with their mom in front of customers. I never would've thought a lobster roll would take 45 minutes when I was one of only 2 customers in the entire store on a Tuesday afternoon. When the lobster roll finally arrived it didn't even have any butter on it even though I ordered it that way. But I wasn't about to continue to have more of my vacation time consumed by this business waiting on butter. So I just ate lobster on a bun and won't be back. read more

Great little gem that reminds me of an old fashioned local variety or general store. Local beers, Maine made gifts, ice cream, pizza and sandwiches made to order or ready made. A few picnic tables outside for eating lunch or enjoying your ice cream. Easy in, easy out parking. The young ladies working the register and the deli were very friendly. I admit I haven't quite found my sandwich there yet. But I will keep trying. Lobster roll didn't have any (?) flavor but the McCrum fries and the Cole slaw were amazing. Be sure to upgrade to the basket. Enormous pile of fries, you can share among a small family! I hear the burgers are very good so that will be my next try off the menu. Nice little convenience store in the area. Stopped for a cheap lobster roll and it did not disappoint! Great value for less than $20 (the basket is more but comes with sides). We stopped in for burgers and pizza. The store was super busy and for good reason! The decor was like an old fashioned store and had comfortable seating while we waited. We ate on the deck, the boys devoured the pizza and I had absolutely the best burger I have ever eaten. One of my son's had the burger as well and stated this would be his go to place for burgers going forward. If the food wasn't good enough, The Bayside Store has the best beer selection! We were visiting the restaurant and decided to try out the pizza. Best choice we ever made! The crust was excellent, the toppings just right and flavor was delicious. Even though we live an hour and a half away, we've already decided to go back again for the pizza! And the staff working there are very friendly. They claim to have the best subs on the coast, and ours were pretty darn good. If you order one of the special roast beef subs with horseradish, unless I'm wrong, its actually horseradish and not a mayonnaise coverup. The roast beef was fresh and tasty. Nothing special about the sub roll, but that can be forgiven as the subs are full size, overstuffed, and tasty. Friendly staff. Grab some subs and go have a picnic and you can't go wrong. read more

Went in the door today to get a sub and none of the 3 employees were wearing masks. No sign on the door about wearing masks. Gov. Mills has ordered that all grocery stores and restaurants in Maine MUST have a sign requiring masks AND must have employees masked. They make great subs but they are way out of step. We just had a ferocious winter blizzard here in mid-coast Maine, but all I want is a Bayside Store steak bomb. Seriously, folks, this beats Philly's best hands down. The sub roll is toasted to perfection with a ever so slight thin crisp crust and an exquisitely chewy and robust interior. The lush combo of thinly sliced steak, mushrooms, peppers, and onions, tenderly grilled and layered with succulent melted cheese (American, in mine) waters my palate just thinking about it. I stopped in Friday morning with all intentions of grabbing a slice of their highly recommended breakfast pizza but then I saw this beauty, a breakfast burrito with eggs, cheese, onions, peppers and tomato!! It even came with a side of salsa! I did not regret my decision to forgo the pizza, the burrito was DELICIOUS and gave me the fuel I needed to get through the day and close out the week!! This place replaces my kitchen in the summer... When I was little I would walk the mile from Bayside to the Bayside Store to buy penny candy and slush puppies. Now I'm too lazy to walk, and when I'm too lazy to cook I always turn to the kitchen at this cute little convenience store, which serves the BEST subs in the area, as well as decent pizza, burgers, etc. Good selection of sodas (including Moxie, of course) and the regular Sam Adams, Bud, Miller, etc. They also sell gifford's ice cream, and have a cute little porch/patio where all the kids sit and eat their food before heading back to the park or dock to play some knock-out or push each other into the water. I have to give it 5 stars because of the sentimental value here--but the subs really are good, and reasonably priced. I recommend the BBQ Beef, the hot roast beef, or create your own.
