Over priced "small, med or large serving" what does that even mean? How many ounces of meat in a small order vs a med order vs a large order? Ask them and they'll explain that if you're just a little hungry order small. If you're more hungry, order a med bc they give you a small bag of chips with your order. If you're really hungry, order a large which has 2 sides. The small plate with a coke will set you back on average $20 and it goes up significantly from there. We went ahead and ordered even though we were not sure how to gauge the Small or med or large plate. Thank goodness we chose small bc the food was not even average. My beat friend has led this place catered for her wedding this past weekend and it did not disappoint! The Mac and cheese is to die for and don't even get me started on their bbq sauce! For a roadside stand in the off season in Montana, this was a great stop! Our crew got street tacos (pulled pork, onions, sauce), bbq sandwiches and a "polish dog" (that was meh), baked beans and smoky mac n' cheese. Everyone was happy! But the best was the huckleberry milkshake - thick, creamy and well-appointed with huckleberries! Our server (the owner's son) was kind and helpful. The food was excellent and service was wonderful! The staff was super friendly too. Got a pulled pork sandwich with sweet and spicy sauce (definite has a kick to it) and one with smokey sauce. The BBQ pit just re-opened this weekend, August 2023. It is under new ownership. ignore the prior reviews. Do not go there. it is the worst food in Seeley Lake. And, it is also very expensive. 3 people--3 dinners $68 OK for some details. We ordered a side order of cornbread--the cornbread muffins were stale and inedible. When they made up our order, they had to know that their cornbread was as hard as a rock. But they served it anyway. The corn on the cob, was cold, squishy and barely fit for the squirrels in our yard. The garlic mash taters were more garlic than taters. It actually burned our mouths. And, finally the baked beans were ok, with a touch of jalapeño. We had brisket and pulled chicken. The brisket appeared to be pot roast. it lacked any smoky, BBQ flavor. It was lukewarm and mushy. The brisket resembled Costco, microwave Pot Roast-and unfortunately it was not as flavorful as Costco frozen, microwave offering. The pulled chicken was tender. But it was cold. We also discovered bones in the pulled chicken. Finally, I've been to BBQ restaurants from Carolina, Chicago, Kansas City, Memphis and Texas. I've never been to one that doesn't sell their meat by the pound. This Restaurant only served plates of meat with sides. The medium had slightly more meat than small. And, large had more than medium. But the lady at the restaurant could not provide any more detail, than that. Overall, the food was unappetizing, served cool and appeared to be left over from the previous day. Seeley Lake could use another dining option. However, this overpriced, unappetizing option does not deserve our hard earned money. read more

We had the brisket sandwich and pulled pork sliders which were both really good. They had spicy mango habanero barbecue sauce and regular smoky sauce which were both delicious. But in Big Sky Country, the possibilities are endless. Hiking to Morrell Falls before the snow melts? Sure. Why not? Just stop at the Pit after to inhale a Cornish game hen and cornbread before returning home. Driving back from an early September hiking trip to Glacier and need some slow-cooked food to finish the trip fast? Order the pulled pork dinner, with three sides and deliciously smoked meat without sticky sauces. I added some Tapatio hot sauce to mine, and it was perfect. Grab coffee down the street at Jitterbug Java before leaving, though. Gotta finish the meal off right. A huckleberry shake wouldn't be bad, either. Eating is outside, under the umbrella tables. Soak up the surroundings while satisfying your hunger. Closes for winter, reopens in spring, keeps going through summer. Would that all pitstops were this good. Can't wait to come back. The BBQ Pit in Seeley Lake is excellent. i dont know what is supposed to make up a "real, traditional" BBQ and I don't care. This was delicious. The pulled pork was well made and good quality. The BBQ sauce was a lovely balance of sweet and spice. The beans had a little something going on. The cornbread was more soft than crumbly. We also has a burger. The patty was made by hand and the tomato, lettuce and onion on it were part of the price -- not an extra charge. The buns were really good quality; I don't know how long they will be able to offer those but YUM for now. The pulled pork sandwich was $7 and the cheese burger was $6.50. For $1 more we got two sides (we both chose the beans and cornbread). We absolutely got our money's worth for taste, volume and friendly small town service. They will also pack up the ingredients (buns, meats, sides) for you if you want to have a no-effort BBQ party at home or on the lake. Sweet! The BBQ Pit is under new ownership this year (2013). I don't know what it was like last year but as long as these people are the owners we will certainly keep coming back. read more

The menu is huge. The place is small. No real seating unless a picnic table on the side of the highway is enough - oh wait - there are two. The ribs are fantastic. Beware the sauces - they almost take away from the amazing flavor. But I will steer-clear of the salads and anything else from here out. Just ain't as good as the ribs.
