Don't let the 3 stars fool you, the 2 times we've been there the service and food were good. The problem is that nothing really stands out, it's just your garden-variety burger and bbq place and there's nothing wrong with that. I'd recommend eating here but don't expect to be wowed by the food, service, or atmosphere. In this case, though, good is good enough. read more

Well I can tell you that the so called cook should stick to microwave dinners. This place had slow service, cold food, old grease, and it taste like is was made yesterday and reheated today. We should have figured it out when every restaurant in Saint George was full and this place is empty. Flounder was brown fish, fried oysters are soggy, gumbo was most likely canned soup, Brunswick stew was cold and disappointing. When we told the waitress she smiled and acted like she has heard this before. Not sorry or anything. Lots of great restaurants in Saint George just not this for me. read more

Stopped in for breakfast before going to the beach. The food was alright but nothing exceptional. Bacon was salty and not very flavorful. Hashbrowns were not very crispy and slightly greasy (and we ordered them extra crispy). Crepes were the best part of the meal. read more

Delish! And It's not just BBQ friends! We had a wonderful and tasty dinner tonight. Fried grouper dinner with onion rings and a baked potato and blackened shrimp dinner with a salad and a baked potato. The grouper had a lovely crust and the blackened shrimp was very flavorful with a hint of just the right spice! We had a couple of rum runners and they were also delish! Malory our waitress/bartender was the BEST!!! Amazing service!!! And they are short staffed according to the sign asking for grace. Well, they didn't need it because it was perfect! After we sat down, we waited 15minutes to be greeted by a server. When we were ready to order at 630 pm (not late!) we were told that they were out of fried okra, corn, green beans and crab legs). The fish sandwich was 2 small pieces of fish on bread. It was ok. Nothing special. French fries were stone cold. Brisket was very dry. Shrimp was fine. We never got the extra condiments we asked for. Not bad BBQ, even if you're stuck on an island. Good smoky flavor all the way through, and not dried out. Sauce on the side has a decent tang to it. Cole slaw was kinda bland and generic, but edible. Grouper sandwich was crispy and flavorful. Liked that it had romaine rather than iceberg lettuce. Pecan pie was just staring at me so of course I had to get a slice. It was good and so full of nuts it fell apart when trying to cut it in half. Now that's a good thing in my book. Yew I would go back here. Employees that I saw were wearing masks and I didn't see a nose on them the time I was there. Customers on the other hand walking in with nothing on their faces. This place has seafood and bbq without the ridiculous "island prices". They have lunch specials, so ask if they don't volunteer. I had the fried pork chop lunch special with fried cabbage, black eye peas, and a roll. Huge chop, perfectly fried. Only way it could be better was with a side of white gravy. Also ordered fried okra, delicious. The mullet dip is good, nice and smoky. Fried shrimp are good. Just a overall nice meal without having to leave the island. read more

Busiest week of the year and this is the only restaurant on the island with no wait and lots of open seats. I needed a break from wifey's "eat all the oysters in the Gulf" marathon since seafood is not appetizing to me... yeah, the irony of vacationing in the Gulf... so I had high hopes for this place, not expectations mind you. This bbq place was dissappointing due to a couple of issues we encountered: we arrived before 6 pm, it had diners but it was not full, yet we were told they ran out of oysters (really?!) and chicken wings after we waited 10 minutes after ordering said non-existing wings. Big demerit for poor inventory ordering. 2 staples and you run out during dinner service?! The second demerit was the temperature of my pulled pork plate. The sides of fried okra and brunswick stew were hot and tasty enough, but my pork was colder than room temperature. I would have taken heat lamp heated to have my meat warm at least! The hush puppies were freshly fried and tasted fine, but the wifey and I were not pleased with the overall experience. As the only sit down bbq joint on SGI they would have gotten a lot of my business but their poor execution let us down. I would not come back. We've been to The Beach Pit three Summers in a row, usually twice a vacation, so around six times. Once for dinner, twice for lunch and three times for breakfast. We went a few days ago for breakfast. Overall, average but I'll elaborate. Walked in on a Sunday around 11:30am. We were ignored by the Hostess for longer than acceptable. She didn't smile or properly greet us (college aged black girl with longer twist hair). We asked to sit in the corner by the window which was no problem. Then no Server appeared for five minutes and no greeting despite four different Servers walking by. The same black Hostess walked by tossing something in the air and catching it (very unprofessional). All the while the Staff chatted amongst themselves. Finally, a very nice, pleasant and clean Server appeared. She apologized for not greeting us and said she didn't know she had a table. Frankly, I blame the untrained, unprofessional Hostess. The remainder of the meal our Server was excellent, folksy and quick. Many other Servers were dour and sullen. The food was good but the portions a little smaller than I remember. My Veggie Omelet was too small and the toast seemed small. They were out of grits (how can you be out of a staple like grits?) so we had a large side of hash browns which were also too small. Of note, my coffee was topped off and we were offered to go coffees. I over-tipped, as usual, and the pleasant Server gave a farewell. The restaurant was clean. There are issues with the Hostess and proper greeting. The restaurant is slightly loud due to being wall to wall hardwood with no buffering or tapestries. It was comfortable inside with appropriate AC. Overall, I do recommend but The Beach Pit needs to train some staff a little better and the servings were slightly undersized. read more

Great place to eat. Indoor dining and great menu from gator bites, cheese sticks and hush puppies to steak, chicken and bison burgers! The bison burger is delicious. Great service, good food and plenty of seating at the bar or at a table. This is my second time ever eating here and it is still a favorite. read more

Cannot say enough positive things about our takeout feast from here! I was in the restaurant for 30 seconds tops. Our food was bagged and ready and was still warm when we got home. We really wanted to like this place but it just didn't work out us. Went for dinner on a Sunday night and found it near empty. Nice island décor and friendly, if timid, server. Had oysters on the half, Brunswick Stew and the key lime pie. The oysters were fresh and plump and the Brunswick Stew was very good. We had seen a picture of the key lime pie on their website and were excited but the real thing was disappointing. Small and lacking. A couple of days later we went back for lunch and again found a near empty restaurant. on entering immediately noticed that there was no AC. On top of that the AC seemed to be dripping water onto our table. I ordered a draft beer from the menu but learned they were out of it. I then ordered my second choice of draft from the menu and learned it too was out of stock. We decided to cut our losses and left and won't return. read more

She said someone would be right with me. Person wasn't wearing a mask who took my payment, then drove back to my family & realized they left out my gumbo. Called them & drove back & missed eating with my family. They brought it out after several minutes & didn't say sorry or provide anything extra.
