The icecream is good but the pricing options are ridiculous. They force you to order obscene amounts of icecream so they can sell more. The "Kitty" size is three massive scoops. So you get this massive amount of icecream for $4 and think "well it's a pretty fair price for the amount" but no one wants a large amount of icecream disguised as a "Kitty". Offer smaller icecream servings sizes. I would love to buy one scoop for $2 or $3. It's so bad that they created a "half-kitty" size??? Kitty is supposed to be a size for small kids or even infants. People have to find flavors that they both like so they can split a kitty.. I watched a family try to ask to split a small 3 ways. Can you stop the ridiculous pricing practices so people don't have to bend over backwards to eat a reasonable amount of icecream? read more

We were apprehensive about stopping at the Beach Plum on a Sunday in mid-summer, but we needn't have been. Two people were stationed in the parking lot, ready to help customers park their cars. The lines at the stand looked long, but the place is so efficiently run, it only took a few minutes to get our food. All the tables were taken outside, but we asked a couple if we could join them -- no problem. The lobster rolls cost $17, but they are HUGE and loaded with fresh lobster -- definitely worth the money. The ice cream is delicious and again you get huge servings. Doesn't have THE BEST lobster roll around but for the price and the portion size, it's worth the small to medium long line that's usually present. If the line's over 15 people on a hot day, I'd pass and come back to try again some other time. For $17, the 10 ounce lobster roll is basically shredded and pieces of just lobster meat (no celery, no outstanding seasonings etc) mixed with a medium amount of mayo and then Mounded high above the little toasted (soggy by the time you get to it) hot dog bun that comes with it. It would be better if they had a bread roll that stood up to the mayo more and also less shredded meat, more pieces. As for their seafood chowder and clam chowder, both had good flavor and lots of clams and seafood, but the soups were a little thin. Their ice cream is hands down amazing. There aren't a whole lot of opportunities to enjoy ice cream and other treats right on the beach. Down by Hampton Beach proper you'll find plenty of hot dog and fried dough stands, but Beach Plum steps it up a notch, with a huge selection of ice cream flavors plus seafood and other take-out favorites. Things are a tad pricey, but the portions are reasonable for what you're paying. I generally consider Beach Plum an ice cream place, but a lot of people were getting hot dogs, lobster rolls and other take-out treats and going across the street to enjoy them on the beach. I'm deducting a star because when I stepped up to the booth to order, I came face to face with an autographed picture of Scott Brown, who actually signs his autograph with "#41". I didn't know that idea-less obstructionism was something to be so proud of. Unless you're a pro athlete or a robot, there should not be numbers in your autograph. read more

Okay, I'm going to rate the Beach Plum on food AND dining experience. My wife and I had friends over and we searched out the Beach Plum thinking it was a restaurant and that there would be plenty of parking based on the photo here on Yelp...there is plenty of parking, if everyone on the East coast wasn't trying to eat there as well. We parked on the side of the road where there were also a number of vehicles. I got out and realized there were parking tickets on all the surrounding cars. I told my wife and friends to head in and the parking attendant was helpful, he told me to circle around in the beach parking lot across the street and he would wave me in. It didn't take long, but all this seems a little excessive for some lobster roll. We order a foot long hot dog, a foot long lobster roll, and a kid's meal for our daughter...and I wait. I wait so long one of our friends had come back with her order as she has special allergy needs and they didn't give her what she ordered. Needless to say, my friend got her reorder before I got my order. After inquiring it was discovered our order was nowhere to be found. The "servers" were nice enough and apologized, but I just expected a little more after spending $45+ for our food. It's right about now I realized I have to use a bathroom...any bathroom...nowhere to be found. The tables outside are old, often dirty, and mine was at such a slant I felt as though I was going to fall backwards. Fun. I will concede this, the food was good. The hot dog wasn't anything special and the kid's meal was okay though the bubbles had my daughter more distracted than interested in eating. The lobster roll is phenomenal...for a lobster roll. My wife and I shared it and it was all good. Ultimately the lobster roll outweighs all other lobster rolls, but not where it comes from. My tip? Send two people to pick up the food, one person to drop off the person to order and pick up the food. When the food is ready, call the driver back and eat it SOMEWHERE ELSE...Great Island Common sounds good to me. read more

If you're looking for a bigger lobster roll, you're out of luck. I was told by friends to brace myself for the jaw-dropping amount of meat that is somehow coaxed into the traditional hot-dog bun. I wasn't prepared...I wasn't prepared... Most mortals will require a fork to have at this beast, but true champions will go for the gusto and take it on mano-a-mano. Regardless of how you eat it, it is excellent. You do get a combination of chunk lobster and shredded lobster, and in an ideal world, it would all be lobster chunk. It's flavor is not quite as fresh as others (Markey's). Minor quibbles aside, this is an incredible value (about $3-4 more than a standard roll, and probably close to 3x the size). read more

Was pleasantly surprised to get MASSIVE amounts of lobster in the lobster roll and tons of lobster chunks in the bisque. Absolutely LOVED the bisque! The ice cream was yummy, creamy, and refreshing. The lobster roll was so huge (and I didn't get the foot long lobster roll) that I basically ate it with a fork as the hot dog bun couldn't handle the copious amount of lobster. The food was OK but they are a complete organizational disaster. It didn't seem particularly busy for a summer Saturday evening when we went. They first gave us the wrong drinks, and then an extra unwanted drink. WOW! Great lobster roll! We got the 6oz lobster rolls. Came with a bag of chips. If you are looking for a really big roll, you'll have to order a bigger size - they have 5oz, 6oz, 8 oz and 10 oz rolls and the prices go up quite a bit. But, it tasted great! The housemade lemonade was the perfect drink to go with it. Afterward we had ice cream (is it from Gibson Dairy? Our favorite!!) Be warned. The ice servings are GINORMOUS! Delicious!! Super casual outdoor setting. Picnic tables across from the beach. Tables were not clean and horseflies and yellow jackets were present. Clean the tables and it will keep the pests away. The Beach Plum is an absolute staple in the community. The food is pretty good too, though not great. Really it's the location that sells the place (you can eat lobster rolls and ice cream on the wall while watching the ocean, can't beat that!). There's an incredible amount of ice cream flavors to choose from, and a kiddie is big enough for a large adult male. On the downside, the prices reflect the affluent neighborhood. $50 lobster rolls? Really? The plus side is the lobster rolls are 99% lobster, no fillers or excessive mayo. However, I doubt they're really affordable for the average beach goer. Suggestions: -get the crab roll for a fraction of the lobster roll's price, it's yummy! -kiddies are plenty big, if you're ambitious enough you may be able to handle a small though I certainly can't -it adds up! The ice cream is delicious with a very creamy, and dense consistency just like hard ice cream should be. And THE SERVINGS were HUGE! I did not expect that! I ordered a large cone of Chocolate Maple Walnut. YUM!!! (If I had known how big a "large" was, I would've ordered smaller. Very generous! ) Others in my party were impressed by both the quality and serving sizes. The servers were friendly, courteous and pretty efficient. Some suggestions: please display or spell out clearly how much is in each "size" offered. Provide a better way to know whose order is whose when called out at the pick-up window. Several people were given someone else's order which required dumping the ice cream product and re-serving. Ask for names with orders, or order numbers, and then call them out when ready to reduce confusion.
