I really only get ice cream here when I visit North Hampton State Park because of the convenient short walk across the street from the beach. I've tried a footlong hotdog, lobster roll, and cheeseburger. I felt the food is average but the prices are borderline ridiculous. It's a tourist trap. They hire lots of young kids to work here. It's great for them, but they could benefit from some extra training. This place is always pretty busy and has​ billboards all over NH. I've never had the food but the ice cream is the best I've ever had, no exaggeration. Go here, you're missing out. If you go to the boardwalk, they have the same ice cream sometimes, but the servings are small and expensive. At the beach plum, the servings are humongous and I save half of it for the next night and basically get two ice creams. I also always get the kiddie size for $4.29 or so, and i love ice cream, I always finish it. Kiddie is bigger than any other place's large. I can't express how much I love this place. Had the pleasure of visiting my friend twice now and twice she has taken me to The Beach Plum. While she ordered a child-size ice cream (which turned out to be three massive scoops!), I ordered the 10 ounce lobster roll. I was just too chicken to order the foot long version. The lobster bisque and clam chowda is pretty good as well. But the main course... The lobster roll here has got to be the best I've ever had. The amount of mayonnaise was perfect and the roll was toasted and coated with oil (garlic too?). I had to dig via eating my way to be able to get a grasp on the roll! After I finished, I sat back on the bench and nearly fell over. I contemplated ordering another 7oz. roll as I walked over to the North Hampton Beach before realising I probably shortened my life a little more now. Amazing. I ate lunch there and ordered the haddock sandwich. I was disappointed that here in New England they served a frozen old haddock! I won't be back. The haddock sandwich at North Hampton is frozen and old! I could taste the ammonia from an industrial freezer! The owner says he has great fresh seafood, but I didn't experience it. Right across the street from the Atlantic Ocean and got frozen fish? I have eaten at Portsmouth and Epping. We tried this establishment while in Hampton on vacation twice. The first time around I had a hot dog with chips, as well a their Oreo cookie ice cream in a cup. Let me just say one thing about their ice cream portions.... way too big, but it was good so no REAL complaints there. The foot long hot dog is grilled nicely and served on a buttered roll. Add some condiments to it and you have a very good tasting frankfurter. The second time around I tried the lobster roll, and this was equally good. The lobster roll and the hot dog is served with potato chips. The outdoor seating was nice, and the bench seats have umbrellas in them to provide shade. read more

To start I'll say my boyfriend returned his lobster roll because every bite he took had a shell in it. (3 bites to be exact) So he went back to them, they apologized and gave him a free ice cream of his choosing (which was HUGE .. and tasty) and gave him another lobster roll. Awesome! Took a bite of the new roll and yet another mouthful of shell............. Take from that what you will. This brief review concerns only the famous lobster roll, which is widely publicized as the best in New England. I don't know about that but it is good, with no fillers. Toasted bread/roll, lobster and some mayo. The 10 ounce one is about $30 and comes in a plastic clamshell with some horrible dusty local-brand potato chips. You are right across the road from the beach so I guess you pay for the ambiance. We were there in early June before the tourist madness, and it was raining so we had no wait at all. I took one star off for the price and the nasty chips. For 30 bucks some fries and a lemon would be nice. read more

Went here with 4 people for a much craved lobster roll for my wife. 3 people got lobster rolls, we got one chicken salad, and one pastrami sub. Pros: -Good service, the lady at the window was very kind and helpful and informative about the food. -There is a fair amount of outdoor seating -Parking is easy even though your across from the beach, because they have a guy run and and try to prevent you from parking there for free and then going to the beach. -Nice area The main problem for me was the price 9.99 for a average size pastrami sub, you would get a larger and better one from most local sub shops for less money. The other main problem is we drove over an hour because there was solid reviews for the lobster rolls and 2 of the 3 lobster roll eaters weren't super impressed, they were content. Now if your gonna drop $22 dollars for a roll you tend to want it to be delicious. (8oz roll size was 22 a 6 oz is 18). This place is in a prime location so if you are simply at the beach across the street of course you would come here. But I would not go out of my way to get here. The Beach Plum, in my estimation, an overrated ice cream/seafood shack located north of Hampton Beach. It's an absolute tourist trap and I'm confused by both their high ratings and their Best of NH awards. My main complaint is the prices: $7.29 for a large frappe? It's ice cream and milk for heavens sake. All of their prices are way too high for what you receive for food. Their "famous" lobster rolls are priced several dollars higher than what you can find elsewhere (The Lobster Claw in Derry, NH comes to mind). Please tell me who would pay $41.99 for a 20 ounce lobster roll? They also do not have anything fried which is odd considering what else they are serving. I had a Greek chicken wrap which at $9.49, I could have found more chicken on the bones of an already eaten drum stick. I get it, I get, it's a tourist shop and they are going to charge what the people are willing to pay. However, there is a difference between supply and demand and just plain greed. $5.99 for a 12-inch hot dog? $2.59 for a bottle of Dasani water? A bad value. I get that they can charge higher prices because of the location and they keep the grounds looking nice, but I've had many bad experiences here. The staff doesn't seem to care. Just now, I ordered a kiddie-sized cone and it was scooped so it hung over the edges and immediately melted all over me. My lime rickey had ice cream in it that I found by slurping it thru the straw. And I recognize the cashier from the Rt 1 location when she served me food with a bleeding wound on her finger and ate with a spoon directly out of the ice cream freezer. On this busy day in September the ice cream took about 40 mins also my daughter was finished before mine came out (incorrectly). I can look past the end of season shortcomings but not the cleanliness. While waiting 40 mins I saw the grossest kitchen /coolers ever. The serving area is covered in mold. If you are spending the day at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, don't forget to drive a little further north to the Beach Plum. We went for ice cream after a long day at the beach and shopping along the boardwalk. All four of us preferred small ice cream. I must admit, I wanted to order a medium since ice cream is one of my main food groups. Luckily, I didn't. The small was about the same size as a large or extra large in other ice cream shops! I couldn't finish the small. I had soft ice cream and it was very creamy and delicious! We also had lunch there earlier in the day. Hot dogs, lobster rolls, and pulled pork were ordered by my group. Ok, I am going to go against the wind here and although I am giving this place 4 stars I will say that I've had better. And while I may be from the Left Coast please don't disregard my comments ! The good- Location - I am always a big fan of hole-in-the-wall, locals places and this is no exception. Very scenic, right off the beach, nice drive down 1A to get here. The 'lobstah' - the rolls are HUGE. Very succulent, fresh - some of the best I've had to be quite honest. The "meh"- I'll start with the lobster bisque. It was honestly not very good and IMHO it's not really a bisque its more chowder like. The ice cold lobster they add to it before its served didn't help either. Back to the rolls, while they are huge and the lobster was excellent a few things bothered me. Light mayo - I hate mayo with my fish, no matter if its light. Second, there's a lot shredded lobster in that roll. Sure more lobster is better but I rather it be all chunk lobster like I've had at other places. The other slight disappointment was that the lobster was ice cold. Not my thing, to be honest. The roll itself is a hot dog roll which is pretty bland. The ones I really like are the ones where the roll is a piece of Texas toast. And where was the warm butter? Thats what I like - naked roll, light butter. Anyway, YMMV. That all said - I do want to come back some day and try their other stuff. Ice cream? Sounds good to me. TIP - get the double lobster roll and split it for two. ANOTHER TIP - bring cash because this is cash only. ANOTHER ANOTHER TIP - if you go at night bring bug repellent because those little fuckers kept biting me. THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP - bring alcohol! I was talked up into get this and it was good, it wasn't the best lobster roll.. it wasn't caked in buttery deliciousness like i was told. it was a grilled bun, over filled with lobster covered in mayo. nothing else. nothing spectacular and extremely yummy enough to make you want more and to make you want to pay that much for again. but it was quite the experience. Yes, the lobster roll is good. It's a toasty bun with lobster and mayonnaise. Good is inevitable. But is it the world's best? I don't think so. Just down the road in Seabrook, I ate a much better and more lobstery roll for about half the price. Not sure if it was flavor or texture, but something was keeping me from my normal summertime lunch euphoria. Maybe it was my empty wallet. It's close to the beach and the ice cream is also inevitably good. So, that's neat. I'll probably be back, though most likely just for dessert. read more

The sandwiches are awful. ONLY get an over priced lobster roll if you need actual food. My first visit I ordered a veggie wrap. It was only lettuce, tomato and cheese, no spread or anything. Offer smaller icecream servings sizes. I would love to buy one scoop for $2 or $3. It's so bad that they created a "half-kitty" size??? Kitty is supposed to be a size for small kids or even infants. People have to find flavors that they both like so they can split a kitty.. I watched a family try to ask to split a small 3 ways. This place is the bomb. I heard about it through a friend and have driven up here twice this summer from Boston just for the Lobster Roll!!!! Pretty easy to find. Get off exit 1 on I-95 and just a short drive from there. The two times I have been there it has been packed. Once you order it can take about 10 min to receive your order. Don't even attempt to park in the parking lot at the Beach Plum as it is a zoo. I park across the street at the beach (make sure to bring quarters). The portion is huge, so much lobster meat it takes me about 15 min just to eat enough so I can pick up the bun. Comes with potato chips (good substitute). Mind you the Beach Plum does not sell anything fried!! The Icecream is amazing. Way too many flavors to choose from. I bought the kiddie size as they are huge, More than enough for one adult. I would say the kiddie portions here are about the size of a medium at any other place. I do wish they had fountain soda (though not a deal breaker). Disappointed. First day of vacation and I spent a lot of money on a lobster roll and lobster seafood chowder only to be underwhelmed. Chowder had really no seafood or lobster in it- just broth. Lobster roll was not the Beach Plum lobster roll that I remembered it to be- didn't taste fresh and the chunks of lobster meat were small and seemed more shredded up.
