The Portsmouth location is my mother's favorite place to dine! So, it only seemed appropriate to have 30 of her family members and friends, meet her there for a surprise 75th birthday luncheon.... I called a month ahead of time, and was told they'd be happy to accommodate. The week before, I visited the location and spoke with Dawn. She was amazing! She listened intently on what we were looking to do, and helped make the process extremely smooth. She is a true professional. The day of the luncheon arrived and everything went off without a hitch. I ate here on Tuesday, June 9 & arrived just before closing. They acted like they were doing me a favor taking my order for a $52 Lobster Roll and Onion Rings... the service was perfunctory at best but really somewhat rude and dismissive like it was just a big hassle for them to serve me a $52 lobster roll. This lobster roll was supposed to be 10 ounces and although I did not have my scale with me, I'm betting that it was not close to that and the onion rings were the absolute worst onion rings I've ever had in my life, they were inedible. There was no one to complain to because nobody seemed to care that we were there as a matter of fact, they would have prefer that we weren't there at all. As for the taste of lobster roll, it was mediocre at best. I wish I could say something good but there's nothing really good to say and again for $52 there is clearly no comparison to the quality you receive for the money you're spending. read more

Had to try a couple of lobster rolls (new to the lobster scene) before I dropped this review. Utilized a 5 $ coupon to get their roll that was otherwise about 18$. For those who do not know what a lobster roll is, it is basically lobster meat that is paired with mayo and some seasoning on a buttered hot dog like roll. It is described as sublime, sweet, soft, and decadent deliciousness. Overall I think this place made a good roll; roll feels smaller than sit down restaurants and the lobster combo (mostly tail) a tad tougher. But if you're paying 13$ for the coupon, then it's not bad. All lobster rolls come with a bag of chips. Personally, I found that strange practice up here since most places either roast their own chips/French fries for dishes that come with chips, so tossing in a bag of chips just seems to make it feel cheap/less well thought out of. The feel is casual; order at counter and sit down with a blue New England beach hut interior kind of feel. They have picnic tables indoors and do social distancing decently. The service is fast; most of the time the lobster salad/filling was probably made earlier and then they just have to toast that butter outside bread. The result is a lobster salad that looks like Chicken salad but doesn't have as much celery/crunchy vegetable to keep the lobster sublime and uninterrupted in the mouth. Came here after hitting the Kittery outlets. Usually we hit up bobs but we wanted to try something different. We got a lobster roll each and the 2 way combo plate fried scallops and fried clams. Starting with the combo plate, the best thing were the fries. The scallops were small but sweet. The clams were tiny and bordered clam strips. Overall the fried plate was left to be desired, I would forego ordering it. The tartar sauce was interesting it had a lot of relish and red onion. Usually tartar is mostly mayo with a little bit of relish. Onto the lobster rolls, the lobster rolls were good and it is nice you can order different size lobster rolls as small as 4 oz and as large as 10. Check my photos for the 10oz and 5 oz. The 5 oz was perfect for wifey and the 10 oz was 10 oz of lobster in a new england hot dog bun. The hot dog bun was well buttered and toasted. Everytime I took a bite, lobster fell out of the bun. It was nice, thick with knuckle and claw pieces. Its a good lobster roll but not amazing, I think you can get similar lobster rolls in Boston, Maine, NH, and Essex ma for the price point. This place was pretty good. I had heard wonderful things about the beach plum, so on our way home from Maine, we decided to stop in. They had pretty good social distancing practices. Some tables outside, doing takeout as well, one way entry and exit to the building, and socially distance tables on the inside as well. Waiting in line to be having your order taken? That was a little scary. A little too close for my liking but the line moved quickly. We ordered a fisherman's platter to share. Definitely big enough to share by the pictures and the way that the gentleman described it to us, and two sodas. They had it brought to our table since we were sitting inside. The food was really really good. The flavor was great. Everything Was cooked on point. My only downside? We didn't get a lot. On one fisherman's platter we got eight fried clams. Six scallops, for shrimp, and a large piece of fried fish. And a heaping mound of french fries. I feel like there should be less fries and a little bit more of the seafood, I pay extra for that. I went here after I ate lunch so I could get an ice cream. I ended up getting an artic swirl which is basically a DQ blizzard. You can get up to 3 toppings and I just got Reese's peanut butter cups and heath bar. The swirl was pretty good and sweet. Little too sweet cause i couldn't finish it all. The restaurant was really strange to me as there were picnic tables in the restaurant instead of regular chairs and tables or booths. My friend told me that it was just to style of restaurant that they were going for. The prices of their lobster rolls were a little expensive for my taste but the workers were all cute girls so that was a plus. While not as picturesque as their Rye location, it's a convenient place to get one of the best lobster rolls around. The vibe is definitely New England lobster shack. Red painted picnic tables are both the exterior and Interior decor with the ever present carved lobster mascot looking on in a slightly creepy way. What a great treat today! This had to have been THE BEST lobster roll ever, at least this far from home! We had heard it was worth the drive, and on the way up to NH, had to put it on the list. It is a decent sized restaurant, the tables are picnic tables, and there is outdoor dining. You order at the counter, and they bring you your food by table number. I couldn't believe my 8 oz lobster roll! Perfectly toasted hot dog roll, just enough mayo to hold it together, but you could hardly taste it! My husband had fried clam strips and "stuffed clams". So I got the kids seafood basket the other day... I got whole belly clams with onion rings. I was kind of surprised that it didn't come with a small thing of coleslaw, but that's not the problem. The problem is is that I think I got food poisoning from it! Because I've been sick since I ate the food from there a few days ago. I also got the corn chowder which was completely nasty. I've never tasted worse corn chowder in my entire life. It's supposed to be white, not yellow and I don't think mustard goes in corn chowder.
