Happened upon this place today. We were hungry... and we were not disappointed. The chowder here in NH has been woefully inconsistent, so we tried the Beach Plum's with caution. However, it was spectacular. Did not try the lobster roll, although they looked excellent. Also (strangely enough) had the chili dog - and it rocked. Ice cream portions were generous and diners were raving about the variety and taste. I can't wait until we get to go back - but it's likely not going to be until 2010. read more

We love the ice cream here and end up here at least a few nights during our annual summer vacation to Rye. The parking is insane and it gets really crowded on the weekends. There is a huge selection of ice cream flavors, I get something different almost every time we go. Beach Plum has some of the best lobster rolls around. They're mostly all tail meat and they go pretty light on the mayo. They have a few different sizes to pick from...6 ounce, 8 ounce, 10 ounce for regular rolls then 12 ounce, 16 ounce, and a whopping 20 ounce for foot long rolls. I usually go with the 8 ounce and it's plenty of tasty meat...and it leaves room for an ice cream after! Their ice cream is good but it's not home made by them. Yes, this place is always packed...cause it's good! Yes, it's expensive...seafood at the beach always is! Their location here at the beach is seasonal and closes from November to April. Their location on Rt 1 in Portsmouth is open year round though. read more

You must go for the Lobster rolls! I am not one to jump on the bandwagon so to speak, but I went to this place for the first time this past weekend and I was blown away. We didn't even get icecream, my fiance and myself each got a lobster roll and they were STUFFED to the brim. You have to eat it with a fork until you are able to safely pick it up. They are filled with huge hunks of lobster meat, and just the right amount of mayo. The buns are toasted with butter making it even yummier, nice and crisp on the outside. So they're a little pricey, you're getting your moneys worth of lobster meat, trust me! I can't even imagine how heavy the footlong one is. Next time maybe we'll try the icecream :) I am giving four stars for right now since it is the only thing I have eaten from there. read more

We finally stopped here for the famous Lobster Roll. Shame on me for stopping here on a Mother's Day afternoon so the line was crazy for the food. After 30+ mins of wait time after I ordered, I finally got the lobster roll, and half eaten Ice Cream. The moose track and PB ice cream combo was great. I ordered the foot long lobster roll to share with my wife and OMG, it was good. It was not much mayo in it and the buns were grilled perfectly. I went to Beach Plum and got their 10 oz. lobster roll which costs $30+ tax. This is an order at the window and wait for your number to be called place. There are inside picnic tables. They were all filthy. The music came from an awful sound system and blared. The lobster roll was good but not worth the money. The overall experience not good. The person who started to take my order obviously had a very bad cold. I asked her if she had a cold. She said yes. I asked for someone else. Why in the world, would management allow someone to work with food who is coughing and sniveling all over the place? I give up on restaurants in the area for a lobster roll. I am going to David's Seafood in Newburyport and cooking myself. Every place I have tried is either a chain of nothing to enjoy or privately owned and nothing good to say about the food or experience. read more

Ice cream is original, creamy and delicious. The kiddie serving is for a huge kid and i'm an adult. Love Almond Joy, Ginger (light, creamy, tangy and delicious) and pistachio. The price for a "regular" lobster roll was $17, but it was soooo much that I really didn't need to eat it all (though did anyway). A wonderful roadside spot for both huge flavorful ice cream cones and some of the best sweet lobster rolls around. This is a classic lobster roll Shack with outside only service and picnic tables. The parking lot can be a bit hard to navigate at times. Would be a 5 star experience (remember this is not a white tablecloth place) with 1 exception.... The picnic area was loaded with bees. The bees were on my food and drink (really good homemade lemon aid) before we could even get to the picnic tables. The bees followed us across the street to the beach as well - so we ended up having to eat in the car on a beautiful early evening.
