There's no doubt the food and ice cream are good here, however they're very overpriced considering what's around. Asked for two half kiddie sized ice creams since their smallest size (kiddie) is huge, and still got charged $8.70 for the full size kiddies. Very expensive compared to other places in the area, which are just as good. Lobster rolls are good, but nothing special. Can get similar for cheaper at other places in north Hampton. They live up to the hype. And they're across from my favorite beach. I'd give them 6 stars, if that were an option. You will need a fork for your lobster roll, it is beyond overflowing with meat. Ice cream is good too. If you get sticker shock, keep in mind how many lobsters needed to be cooked and opened to to provide the amount of meat on your roll. Also, everything in this area is pretty expensive. Overall, decent value. You get what you pay for. Seating is outdoor picnic tables, most with umbrellas. Some seating is side by side Adirondacks with a built in table. Parking is a nightmare. Its a tiny gravel lot with no lines, so anything goes! Seriously, people park in the entrance/ exit. My husband and I went last year and got lobster rolls which were great but whatever they did to the lobster meat this year was more like lobster mush. We would have complained but didnt want to speak to the workers as it is not their fault. It's a vacation tradition that we stop at Beach Plum for their fabulous lobster rolls. I swear I don't think they could put any more lobster meat on the roll if they tried. We got the 16 oz portion which was perfect for the two of us. They also were serving their squash soup w cranberries which we couldn't resist. It was unique and delicious. I love to sit on the wall eating my ice cream and enjoying the gorgeous beach. The only reason I am giving 3 stars for a delicious lobster roll is this...... My mother and I were seeing a show at the nearby Hampton Casino Ballroom. We arrived here a bit after 9 PM. They close at 10 PM. No problem. And this might not be a big deal to others, but its make or break with a lobster roll for me........ After 9 PM, I guess they shut their grills off, so you can not get a buttered roll for your lobster. I get it, it's at the end of the night, you have to turn grills off. However, when I am being charged well over $20 for a lobster roll, I want it to be served exactly the way it is supposed to be, regardless of what time it is. Also, I noticed they sell sides, like, pasta salad, potato salad, etc. I tried to order a couple of sides and was told that they don't sell those at that time either. Perhaps a sign with this information posted before you get in line would be a good idea. It seems like the later it is, the more popular it is for ice cream, which is totally fine. Their ice cream is a bit pricy, but is very good. But again, if I am paying the same amount for a lobster roll after 9 PM, I expect same quality and service I would get before 9 PM. Good ice cream and thankfully they carry sorbet. One of the only places in the area that this dairy free girl can go to and enjoy with the family! The portions are huge! This place has awesome lobster rolls! They're filled with tender lobster chunks, it's heaven in every bite! Make sure to get a fork, cause its almost impossible to eat it like a roll. We stopped by here on the way to Boston from Maine because of the reviews I read here on Yelp. One word. Wow. The lobster roll lives up to the reviews. In Maine, we had a couple of lobster rolls which were ok. I was a little disappointed with the other rolls we had because I thought they were a little meager for the price, but I guess it IS lobster. When we looked into our take out container here. . .what the heck is that!!! It was huge! They give you a fork because you need a fork just to get to the bun. It was amazing, I'm not sure if it was because of the amount or because it was actually good since I am limited in my lobster roll experience (first visit to the northeast). I did like that there wasn't that much mayo, just pure meat. The bread was also buttered and toasted. Yum. The meat was a mixture of shredded lobster meat and claw meat. I don't think there was tail meat in there. But all yummy. In addition to the roll, we had the lobster and scallop chowder. Yum again. I don't like my chowder watery and this one was thick enough for me. I think it's possible it had as much meat as the roll. Ok. . .it wasn't THAT much, but it was a substantial amount and just yummy. Next time we come near this area, we are definitely stopping again. Oh, and they take credit card, not sure if this is recent or not. And luckily, we went during the off-season and at night, so no lines whatsoever. Only giving them 4 stars because I have only tried two things here. read more

Your standard seafood, fried food, and Richardon's ice cream (same as served at various other ice cream joints throughout the region). I wish the ice cream prices were lower, because the portion sizes like other places around here are oddly out-of-whack. Several of us have gotten to the point where we order kiddie cup sizes- and yet still, the amount ice cream could serve at least four fanatical grown-up kids at a birthday party. Absolutely no reason to serve up that much ice cream for those of us who want to splurge only so slightly. I do applaud the fact though that while the lobster roll is expensive here, they do load up the lobster too- and it isn't drowning in mayo. However the "heated" roll was nearly cold when I got it and the wait time was quite a bit for that a bowl of chili. The location is fantastic, though I advise if your driving by, do it closer to evening hrs....parking can be a bear, unless you are already parked across the street for day beach activities at North Hampton Beach Park. read more

On our way out of Hampton before heading back home to Massachusetts, my boyfriend and I made it a point to stop by The Beach Plum for a lobster roll! This was one of our best decisions of the trip. We ordered the footlong 16 ounce lobster roll and a stuffed scallop. YUM! The stuffed scallop was plenty flavorful and the lobster roll was oozing with lobster goodness. I could probably have used a bit more mayo, but all in all it was scrumptious. The only downfall is the lack of parking space and no bathroom. We moved to New England a year ago, and have since made it our business to try as many local restaurants as possible. Our first experience at Beach Plum was pretty good, and we have tried to duplicate that visit now multiple times over. It just hasn't happened. We tend to have a lot of houseguests, and make this our ritual stop on drives up the coast. Each visitor is always blown away by the size of the lobster rolls and ice cream... but never the taste. My husband has become infuriated by the UNwillingness of the high school-aged staff to be more accommodating when they are constantly out of menu items. I've overlooked it the last couple visits -as I REALLY do like their Moose Tracks low fat frozen yogurt- but I think my ability to look the other way is waning. There are PLENTY of incredible ice cream shops in this area, and when the staff makes it seem like your business isn't appreciated... why should you do your business there? Just not worth the drive any more. If you do go, I suggest going for the "Kiddie Size" ice cream. Don't worry: it's still HUGE. The other sizes remind me of something that should be featured on an episode of Man v. Food. (only half-kidding.) We've sampled various items on the menu, and everything but the lobster roll has been between Meh and Bleh. Honestly reminded me of things you'd get in a hospital cafeteria... Nachos: think of the nachos served at football games.(Generic rounds with pumped-on orange-yellow "cheese") Tabbouleh: the same chips served with the nachos with a styrofoam cup of tabbouleh on the side. Tabbouleh appeared to be a few days old, and tasted that way, too. Cranberry Salad Wrap: mayo mayo and more mayo. It had an alright taste, but the wrap itself was stale. Turkey Wrap: Absolutely bleh. I promise you'll find a better wrap in a quickie mart. Wrap was stale and the only thing that came with the small portion of turkey was lettuce and tomato... for $8.49 + tax! Clam Chowder: tasted watery Lobster Bisque: I actually forgot we had this until just now. Personally, I thought it wasn't too bad, (Large chunks of juicy lobster), but my husband found it to be on the watery and bland side. "Dieter's Delight Sundae:" 2 fat free brownies, fat free ice cream, sugar free chocolate syrup... Don't bother. They NEVER have it. I've tried to get it on 4 separate visits, and they didn't have it. I've also called ahead to see if they had it, and never did. Fool me once, shame on you... Fool me, um, 15 times? Definitely shame on me. I went on a Lobster Roll trip to this area, up towards Kennebunkport & points in between. Heard this place had one of the best. They lived up to that reputation. First, the ice cream itself is great and portion sizes are a plus as well. BUT on the other hand, the costumer service at this location is just flat out awful!! As someone who has worked at an ice cream/seafood joint much like the beach plum for 6 years now - I can confidently say, the employees need to be taught how to treat their paying customers! The system they have there where one girl takes the ice cream order and then another girl scoops and brings it out need to be better. This should be a smooth process and instead is a frantic, yelling match as costumers are forced to wait at the very last window as they wait for their ice cream to be yelled. The process should be, order the ice cream, STAY AT THE WINDOW YOU ORDERED AT, and get the ice cream and enjoy. That was their is no screaming orders out the window and mix ups that seem to happen quit often! Forgetting ice creams, wrong orders. Most not all of the (typically girl employees) are rude and don't say thank you or even SMILE! Horrible system and costumer interactions. Managers/owner needs to address this. It's worth the crazy money (with surcharge, see sign in window) they charge for a lobster roll. The foot long is even more. It's always busy in season. Hint: Go in the mid afternoon on weekends during summer. It's "less" busy than at noon or in the evenings. I've never had issue with parking except to say that I've seen some of the largest SUV's on the planet in the parking lot. People! So, anyway, back to the lobster roll. It's a destination meal for this road traveler. Never had the ice cream, but have seen some cones come out to match the size of some of the SUV's (there is a theme here). Anyway, stop in, and, if you think they are boiling the lobsters here and making lobster salad you're stoned. It's bulk lobster, shredded or not, it's still really excellent lobster salad/roll. The lobster rolls are well worth the money, but skipping from the 10 oz. to the "footlong" 12 oz. is not worth the price jump for extra 2 oz. Stopped by the beach plum today after a day in the sun and it was pretty good. I only had to wait in line for about 10 minutes to get my gigantic lobster roll. I don't think I've ever seen one quite this big, and actually needed to eat the majority of it with a fork! I particularly liked this roll because there wasn't too much mayo, but I did have a few pieces of the cartilage which were pretty unpleasant to bite into. The lobster roll was 17.95 which I didn't mind paying since it was enormous. They had a wide variety of ice cream as well - I didn't order any so I cant comment on taste, however their "small" would qualify as a large in any other ice cream shop, I suggest ordering the kiddie. Parking was a bit hectic, but there was a nice outdoor eating area to enjoy the food. Overall it was a pretty good lobster roll and a nice post-beach snack. read more
