I have worn a beard since 1976 (except for a four-year break when the Navy changed the rules about facial hair) and have never been truly satisfied with how it was shaped on my face. Though I tried, I never got the knack of trimming my own beard. I've been to plenty of barbers; some won't touch beards, some only touch up the frizzles, and a few only know how to destroy a beard! I made an appointment with Amber at The Beard Room to get a haircut and get my out-of-control beard looking good. My expectations were exceeded! I was warmly greeted when I arrived, and Amber addressed me by name. Of course, that makes a person feel very welcome, and then being offered a beverage extended that welcome feeling. Amber was just finishing up with a customer before me, but I was in her comfortable Barber chair in just a few moments. Amber explained her approach and philosophy about shaping beards. She explained that she always looks to achieve a look that best complements the shape of the face the beard is on. I know she's had lots of experience, so I just sat back and put everything in her good hands. I enjoyed our conversation during my haircut. I discovered she had moved into their current space during the pandemic and had decorated the walls herself. Her painting lends a great vibe to the room, vibrant but relaxing. I could tell that she was skilled with the tools of her trade. It was hard to know whether she used the Clippers or scissors more on the haircut, but after the haircut was done and she reclined the chair back, it was all scissors while shaping my beard. When she finished working on my beard, she raised the seat back and slowly turned the chair towards the mirror. Seeing the magic she had worked answered my quest to find someone who could put a great shape on my beard. As she applied coconut oil to the beard, she explained some tips about caring for my beard so that it stayed healthy. As I said before, my expectations were greatly exceeded. A note about the location... Getting there confused Google Maps - it had me in the small shopping center across from the Lee Hwy. It was a bit confusing since these townhouse-style professional offices do not face Lee Hwy.; they are, in fact, on an unnamed street perpendicular to Lee. If you are coming from Fairfax, it is on the right. Your landmark is a large Shell station just before the right turn into the address. If coming from Chantilly (West of the Kamp Washington area), your landmark is Havertys Furniture, on your right. Just past Havertys, you must turn LEFT onto the road next to the Shell station. The Beard Room is the first building, second door, on the left as you drive into their street. There was plenty of parking even on a Saturday. Appointments only! I made my appointment with Ricardo for my first time, just moved to the area and its hard to find places where you can get a good beard trim. So I gave them a shot and it turned out great and what I asked was done. It is hard to find the business, its located on the back side of the office complex. Bring cash or have Venmo to pay. The barber chair was comfortable and the place was small but nice. I have a fairly serious beard and as such I think my recommendation should be fairly solid. Not just some hair stylist winging a beard job. Only reason I did 4 stars was that I cant do 4.5 and that I could have used or tried some beard product after the work and some sculpting but I would definitely go back. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this barbershop. Today I got my first hair cut with Ricardo/Ricky. I was nervous as I recently moved back to the Fairfax area and was in need of a new barbershop. It's a little pricey (prices available on The Beard Room website) but the money is more than well worth it for the outstanding quality service you get with extreme attention to detail. All the barbers are EXTREMELY experienced and don't mess around with substandard cuts. They will hook you up and have you looking damn good (I've already received a ton of compliments on my new haircut and beard trim). ** Booking in advance is required which you can easily do on their website** The vibe is that of an old school barbershop where you can sit down, get a great cut/beard trim and shoot the shit. There are sports to watch, waters, sodas, beers, to drink etc. This place checks all the boxes. While I got my haircut & beard trim, I chatted up Ricky and Amber and even though I had just met them, I felt like I had known them for years. That's the kind of place this is which is very hard to find. Sorry I'm rambling but I wanted to share my whole experience. I'm a straight cheap mofo and have been used to paying 15$ a haircut and trimming my own beard for the last 15 years. Been to a few places in the area for a beard trim and each ttime they have shown a knack for f-ing up my beard. Here, I've been using Ricardo and he has done a great job-particularly as I am apparently a disgruntled shopper. He takes the time to understand what I wanted (I'm particular about cheek lines) and has done a good job on my haircut. Very pleased and this is the 4th time I've been. Something must be going right. Don't trust your time and effort growing that beard to just any barber on the block! Not all barbers are created equal. I have sat more than one time in a barber chair trusting the barber knew how to trim and shape my beard, only to walk out defeated and mad. So walking into the Beard Room I was nervous. But Amber knew what she was doing and she took the time to talk with me before she started hacking away! She was professional and she understands how important it is to communicate with the customer. Really... it was a fantastic experience and I will ONLY be going to the Beard Room for future trims. The entire experience was top notch and I couldnt be happier with the results. Went there for the first time and was very unhappy with the sanitary efforts here. The barber was nice but no tools were cleaned between customers, no masks on the employees but 1, no hand sanitizer used in between customers, and one barber kept wiping sweat off face and head with bear hands and never cleaned, then would rub all over clients face. I felt very dirty when I left there and concerned about any health scares that are currently happening around the world. Highly suggest at least cleaning your clippers and scissors in between clients. read more

The first time I came to Amber for a haircut, I was nervous. I've always gotten a crappy haircut since I was young. Having curly hair, it's not easy finding someone who really knows how to cut it. After every haircut I would always hide, go home, shower, and figure out how to fix it to my liking before going back out. Confidence was a huge issue for me. Received another email confirmation on Saturday as a reminder. Arrived 15 minutes early on Sunday...no one was there. Shop was closed. Nothing on website mentioned being closed. Nothing on voicemail mentioned being closed. Website reservation system allowed me to book this time and day. No email or phone call saying sorry, we're actually closed. I was excited to give my husband the gift of a beard facial for Christmas. On 12/22, I scheduled an appointment online for 12/27. When my husband showed up for the appointment on 12/27, he was turned away. Amber said she didn't even do facials and she wasn't sure why the system allowed us to book a facial with her. She rescheduled him with the person that does facials for the following week. My husband fought rush hour traffic for the second time in a week to make his appointment on 1/2 with Andee. When he arrived at the Beard Room the door was locked and no one answered the phone. We received email confirmations for both of the scheduled appointments. Andee texted me about 45 minutes after my husband's scheduled appointment saying that there was an update with the booking system and it shouldn't have shown her as working that day, because she was supposed to be off for the holidays... and asked if we would like to reschedule. Needless to say, we're pretty disappointed and won't be rebooking. read more
